Lost Dog…..

This dog turned up at our house of Friday, he was hungry and thirsty, and full of ticks and fleas. We have fed him and given him water.,
He is very friendly and used to people, we live in the area of Las Cuevas , so I wondered if anyone knows where he has come from.
I put a photo on Facebook but so far no one has come back to me.
Any help or advise will be great.

Further to your search for a caterer – we would recommend Restaurante las Fuentes at Oasis de Capistrano. They have been in existence since 1999 and are extremely experienced in ad-hoc lunches for both local and tour groups. They are more than willing to design a buffet or cooked meal to your budgetary and culinary requirements.

Recommendation -Re-register car in Spain

May I recommend Guillermo Gonzalez (Willian to his friends, contact E-mail: gandiacorp@hotmail.com) that took over the job of the ‘Classic registration’ of my 1985 Mercedes Benz after an eighteen month failed delay caused by Gestors!!

William was precise, efficient, communicative, excellent value for money and comes highly recommended. My advice to you is ‘don’t even attempt a DIY registration’ you will get lost in the ‘administrative paper work’ of the registration authorities in Malaga who, do not like anyone !!!

Recommendation – Replies to query re Biopark

We have been going every year for many years now as our

grandchildren love it.

There is ample underground parking, adjacent to the park.

The park is well laid out in clear areas and it is fascinating even

for adults who go every year!

There are a couple of restaurants and cafes on site but of course

Fuengirola has many restaurants and as the park is right in the centre of town, nowhere is too far to go.

There is of course a shop before you can leave.

Photographs are also taken as you enter the park,

which you can view as you leave, the price for the photos is acceptable and make a nice reminder.

Estimate 2-3 hours for your visit and we guarantee you will go again.

What’s on –Special – during Competa Art Walk

24/3 & 26/3 paper making workshop by Artist Annabel
On Thursday morning 24 March from 11am until 1pm the Artist Annabel Keatley will run the first of two papermaking workshops in the Salon de Actos Competa , as part of The ArtWalk.
Participants will learn the process of making paper by recycling their scraps and left over paper and see how they can completely ‘upgrade’ it to make beautiful sheets of decorative papers. In this workshop they will learn how to add inclusions such as flower petals and leaves, fabrics and images- as well as colour their paper and use embedding, embossing, strengthening and drying techniques.
Materials included.

On Saturday 26 March from 4pm to 6pm Annabel will be leading a plant papermaking workshop. Participants will learn the whole process of cooking and breaking down plant fiber in order to create their own wonderful fibrous plant papers made from Esparto grass. Need legal advice – Urgently

Hello everyone, I hope that someone in Digame circles can help me.

I was denied a telephone account today because I seem to have been blacklisted financially (at least with telephone companies).

I resigned my telephone connection with Jazztel last lear, and was disconnected mid November. They were still taking money out of my bank in January so I blocked all payments. In addition to this the telephone company had the landline owner remove the landline so no other operator can provide ADSL service.

I know of another person who has the same companiy taking money 12 months after the account was closed.

Is there any method or form of redress or anyone who can help me restore my name and get back money taken from the account for which the company are not entitled to remove?

Any legal advice or possibilty of redress would be appreciated.

Dogs on the beach
There seems to be confusion regarding dogs being allowed to be on the beach with there owners in winter…it used to be from Oct to April or May…..obviously not in the summer. But now police are saying they cannot be on there at all…..

I’d recently a laptop that was very slow, and a guy called Peter has fixed this problem at a fair price. There was also a problem with my tablet, and that has he fixed too.

He works on no cure, no pay base. When he can’t fix the problem, you only have too pay the cost of fuel.

He is very kind, and a expert with internet, computers, navigation and satellites. He knows a lot, and gives a very good service. He can also look at distance through internet at your computer with Teamviewer, and can see and fix sometimes the problem of your computer.

Advice needed please.
I am thinking of changing my electrical supplier from Endesa to Evergreen-electrica. Over the years I have had many communication problems with Endesa, also the costs for their standing service charges seem to be excessive.
Has anyone any experience of switching to Evergreen and are you satisfied with their service and charges.

SOS from the Nerja Players.

We need to use the board game Snakes and Ladders in our next production, Tuesday 15th March, and are having difficulty tracking one down. Is there anyone in the Nerja area who would be happy to lend us one for the evening. We wil take good care of it but if you wish to monitor it’s use you are welcome to come along and join us for the evening. We will be presenting the last dramatised reading of this season and it will be Tony Hancock’s radio play, “The Radio Ham”, adapted for the stage and directed by Penni Wilson.

Those of you over a certain age will remember the popular Hancock series back in the 60’s and this episode is where our lugubrious hero buys a short wave radio and looks forward to a little excitement in his life. Unfortunately he gets it!

Thefts from Cars etc

I have a suggestion – keep alert – ladies put handbag in the boot with the groceries AND LOCK THE BOOT -then get into the car (having first looked at all four tyres, some time ago when I was about to drive off a con-man pointed to my rear tyre, but I had checked before getting into the car) and drive off. Check rear mirror as you leave car park area to see if you have a “tail” and then go home – continue to be alert when unloading because even if you have not been followed these nasty types could be hanging around in the area where you live. This sort of thing has been going on for years – perhaps it is getting worse but only the police/Guardia can answer that point.

E-Cigarettes

Not about Spanish law, but a word on e-cigarettes. They certainly contain less carcinogens and no carbon monoxide, but there have been reports linking a common flavouring in the fluid to bronchiolitis obliterans – otherwise known as popcorn lung. The evidence is disputed at the moment, much as it was initially with cigarettes (big money rides on the industry), but it would probably be wise to seek out vaping fluids that are diacetyl free. Ideally you should see an e-cigarette as a transition to clean lungs, not as an alternative addiction. Good luck!

My thanks to all who offered help, but I am pleased to say that they are in fact owned by someone, I went to the waste ground to take pictures as request by the animal rescue people and by pure chance ran into one of the locals who live in the shacks opposite the waste ground who was tending his horses that he keeps tethered there, it turns out that he owns the pig.

1.Main switch is for isolation and protection and total over load and short circuit of the entire installation.

2.Rcd protection is for fault current to earth protection of life .livestock and fire & equipment

Load discrimination is effective whereby the lesser load device would trip first.That’s protection of load on the design of circuit current of cable.

Ok back to the 30mA tripping .with respect to fellow electricians Spanish or other nationalaties .Did he have a test Meter to actually test the sensitivity of the rcd trip time? Sometimes they can be over sensitive and trip with less than 15mA under the designed 30mA perimeter. these fault currents can fluctuate loss to earth in the cable with or without load on them.

There could be an electrical element breaking down be it oven or water heater sometimes these cause intermittent tripping. eventually RCD trip will not reset unless they are totally disconnected or replaced.

Could be cable insulation break down which may not be visible at lighting or power points but can be detected with an insulation test meter.

Condensation drawn through damp walls into connections. can cause corrosion in the back of sockets also having water ingress in outside power points.sockets lights and junction boxes.

Lightning spikes will trip rcd’s even if not evident locally coming through the earth connection ( ground ) over voltage surges from electricity provider.

I cannot envisage Main switch tripping when not under load .most likely see evidence in fuse board of burnt marks of short circuit in the fuse board incoming and that would be expected to take out the main cartridge fuse at meter in that event.

If any digamites require my services for fault finding or installation work and price for periodic safety inspection report which I don’t believe exists here in Spain .added prevention of being inconvenienced is a plus.

You will need to have one of the shiny metal cowls that spin to eliminate the smokey room. They’re not cheap and you might need to remove the very top of the chimney brickwork in order to fit it.

We had this problem last year, renting by Lake Vinuela. When the wind was coming down the mountain from Zafaraya, the usual direction in winter, we couldn’t light a fire. The owner in the UK was asking if the chimney was blocked! Well if it was blocked, how would wind blow down??
The worst time was when the agent came round to ‘show me how to light a fire’!! The downdraught was so strong the match kept blowing out. He had to light the naptha firelighter in his hand and throw it in. All the naptha then caught light and he shut the door. Flames were coming out of the ashtray access, smoke and fumes everywhere. I had to open the door and douse the flames with water…. very messy! The agent then left.

Long story short now. It transpired that the owner had put too fine a bird mesh on the chimney top and over time the mesh was clogging up, mostly on the side away from the wind direction, so instead of passing through the chimney top and assisting in extraction, the wind was being directed down. Not obvious from the ground until I used borrowed binoculars. The mesh was changed for chicken wire and…. aqui esta!

thought it was great, then returned at a later date only to be sadly
disappointed.
Today we went back to Buddha, and were just as impressed as before, if
not more so. The quality of the food, the clever use of spices, the
breadth of choice on the menu, the presentation, the service, were all
beyond praise. Totally excellent, I can only say that if you like
quality Indian food, go there, as soon as you are able, and enjoy.
Long may they, and their quality, last.

March 2016, it’s time for the 8th Artwalk. An annual tradition when visitors come to Competa for the Easter period. On Wednesday

23, Thursday 24, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March, 11:00 to 19:00, you will see a wide diversity of art in different locations. Artists and craftsmen will be present and happy to talk about their work, inspiration, vision and techniques. This art walk is growing every year – an event which many people look forward to. Artists living in and near the village take part but also artists from other countries come, especially for this art event.

There is really so much to see and to experience! Paintings, drawings, textile art, ceramic art, bronze and metal sculptures, turned wood and silver jewelry will be shown. Also there are workshops & demonstrations given. If the weather is nice you can enjoy stunning views of the mountains and the sea. There are many restaurants with good quality food, like the Spanish, Moroccan and international cuisine and there are also many lively bars. And one can find local souvenirs & specialties.

A number of artists have given children a creative workshop in February. This year’s theme: “how to deal with animals.” They have worked with the animal rescue organization AAR and the works will be shown at various locations.

This year musicians will perform their live music! On Wednesday at various locations, each in their own style will show their own sound. In the evening live music by Keith James, English singer-songwriter. On thursday they will come gather to play together. On Sunday evening there is a performance at the Cortijo Paco. Peter Kox a famous Belgium trompettist plays along with two Spanish musicians. It will be a mix of jazz, blues, bosa nova and other latin stuff with fresh improvisations.

If you are looking for good quality arts & crafts & a good atmosphere, the Artwalk is THE place to be! On behalf of the artists and craftsmen of Cómpeta and the guest artists we welcome you to the 8th Art Walk!

Google’s Chrome web browser auto-checks for updates and silently installs them. These updates are frequent and receive little testing. I’ve seen many reports in recent weeks of failed updates causing Chrome to quit working and deleting user info like favorites/bookmarks, saved passwords, etc. The only solution offered so far: uninstall the broken Chrome, do a “cold boot”, then download and install a fresh copy with an off-line Chrome installer package. A cold boot is when you shutdown the computer, remove the power cable then the battery, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then re-insert battery and power cable and then re-start. With tower computers skip the remove battery step. An off-line installer package is when you download a complete version of the program which can then be installed without being connected to the Internet. A typical Chrome install is done while connected to the Chrome homepage and installs as it downloads, not what you want in this case. Unfortunately Google makes it difficult to locate the Chrome offline installer. Help Needed Please –

On the waste ground at the far end of Torre del Mar (opposite Mercadona and the caravan park) we have two strays which have been abandoned, the unusual part is that one of the animals is a small (pet type) Pig, the dog and the pig have obviously been brought up together as where one goes the other follows.

I have tried contacting a phone No given to me as animal rescue but only ever get an answer phone so in desperation I turn to my fellow Digamites, if you know of any animal rescue that can solve this problem please give them a call and give them this information.

The Pig and the Dog are currently hiding out in the long grass and Bamboos in the section which is nearest to the unfinished building shells.

and finally it only leaves the condemnation of the Bl***dy Spanish who treat their pets as throw away items when they become inconvenient.

Regarding the report by David G. The information he is giving is incorrect. This happened to myself and my wife.

We arrived at our urbanisation car park at 9.30 in the evening – in the dark. I had seen car lights behind me on the road, but the coast road can be busy.

The car park here was almost full and I had to park at the far end where there is very little light. We did lose passports, etc., and I attempted to retrieve one case from the robbers as they got into their car, they drove off and my wrist was badly sprained as the motion of their car forced me to the ground. There was no chance of getting the registration of the car. The local Guardia were called and the following day I had to make a detailed report with them.

Warning – Thief in Motril

First the suggestion – Please be extra aware of who is around you in supermarket car parks, keep your handbags in the foot-well in the front of the car with you, at least until the doors are locked with you safely inside.

The experience – A few days ago my friend and I loaded her car with our shopping and as we chatted cheerfully she placed her handbag onto the back seat and climbed into the driver’s seat as I secured my passenger-side seat-belt. I heard the driver’s-side back door open and looked around straight into the eyes of a young man whose hand was in my friend’s handbag! Startled, he slammed the car door and hurried off. I gave chase whilst my friend checked her bag. Luckily on this occasion he left empty-handed and was clearly unprepared for the pursuit that ensued and was frightened enough by our determination to catch him that he jumped through a broken gate and scrambled desperately over a chain-link fence and on into an olive grove. We think he ripped his trousers in the process. (bless)

Re Advice needed re Electricity

There are two types of master trip, both of which trip the whole supply. One trips when you take too much current such as having too many appliances on at the same time and the other when it detects earth leakage (this trip usually has a push to test button on it). You don’t say which one is tripping with the wind. Also, it would be useful to know if you have a surge protector fitted and if you have a single or 3 phase supply.
It would not be usual for a Sevillana problem to trip the first type, however the second type is more sensitive and temporary shorts between supply and earth in high winds could cause a trip. My first thoughts though would be a cable short outside the property. Regards, Chris

I bought a E-cig a couple of weeks before Christmas from one of those kiosks in the center of a shopping mall and gave up smoking on New Years Day….. Hooray! anyway, I only charged the battery once a week and within 8 weeks the battery would not screw into the liquid capsule or the charger…. so I took it back and suddenly the man who sold it me couldn’t speak English! he was able to when he sold it me! Anyway, he would not exchange it, and translated (using his phone) that ‘it tested alright when it left him’, so I had no option to buy another one… I thought it was 2 years guarantee in Spain and said this to him, which he said he did not understand me! So can anyone out there please let me know what our Consumers’ Rights are and also where else is there another E-cig outlet so I don’t have to go back to him again (this next battery seems a bit dodgy)… we’re in Torre del Mar. On return from a very enjoyable few days in the old roman town at Merida (much to be recommended) I switched on our Toshiba laptop only to find it had taken a turn for the uncooperative. Not only would it not download it’s upgrades (despite the fact that the Internet was working very well) but the anti virus software seemed not to be working and we couldn’t even watch the tele via filmon.
So I took it for an overnight love in with Naythan and picked it up yesterday with everything working again exactly as it should!
For people like me who want to use a computer but are not the least interested in how or why it works Naythan is a godsend.

Labrador Found !

Does anyone recognise this 8-10 month old female Labrador cross.

She was picked up from the Zafarraya road near Pilarejo but no-one in that area knows her.

She is not micro-chipped (and is not the Labrador lost from Periana).

She is currently in kennels in Puente Don Manuel but if no-one claims her within 10 days then Axarquia Animal Rescue will be looking to rehome her.

In the meantime can anyone offer her a foster home?

She is very friendly and obviously used to being in a home.

Supermarket Muggings.

I sent the report in last week after one of our owners at our Urbanization was himself mugged with his wife on arrival in Nerja having arrived from the UK, picked up a rental car at the airport and then stopped off for their Supermarket shop before they stopped at the main car park mid afternoon.

On checking with the local Police I was informed that a similar incident had happened 3 days earlier with a couple from Estepona.

Same sort of scenario. Apparently it has happened before but this seems to be a new spate by a new gang. Our owners lost all their cards, passports, cash and got a good hiding into the bargain.

Being careful is the best advice, being alert and looking out for anybody following you is the only way to defeat these bast**ds and do as i recommended earlier.-Drive directly to the local Police if you think you are being followed with a good a description as possible – and their car registration No. and leave the rest to the police

We have lived in the campo outside Competa for 14 years and in general the electricity in the house has behaved itself. Yes we have the usual power cuts in bad weather and sometimes when we have too many appliances running simultaneously the master trip switch goes off. Recently, in winds that are stronger than a stiff breeze, with no appliances running, the master trip switch goes off. We have had an extremely competent Spanish electrician check the house. He patiently went through every socket and junction box putting things right. Is it possible that the wind is disturbing the supply to the house in some way and do I need to speak to Endesa. Please reply to Diagamextra as others may have similar problems.

I am using a local lawyer to submit my Modelo 720 before the end of the month, as I expect many others are. My lawyer has told me that one information field requires a reference number for my UK Santander bank account.

He said it is like an NIF number and is printed on letters. Well I have asked the bank for this reference number and they don t know about it. The lawyer is not answering my emails and phone calls so I am getting desperate to find out what this reference number is. Can anyone who has been through this process help?

I can’t help noticing that all those smart people with smart phones take wonderful pictures. The technology is very seductive but when it comes to pressing the ‘filming’ button, geography goes astray and we are presented with a video in portrait mode – as if looking through a doorway. Now no one wants to watch films this way round – and until our eyes are repositioned vertically in our head, TV’s mounted on end and cinema screens the same, this is not a success for the future. The past weeks l have noticed a lot of branches of pine trees that people have cut and dumped at the bins, sometimes not in the bins just near them, have a thought for the poor animals who live by the bins whose lives are already bad enough with out the added threat of people dumping caterpillars where they go to look for food.

Hi Diane,

I do admire you adopting a cat and being so responsible for its wellbeing. We have “inherited” 2½ cats in a similar manner.

Local veterinarians will give you a good discount if you state that it is a wild or abandoned cat, and you are thinking of taking care of it. Our veterinarian in Nerja reduced the price from 80 € to a more affordable 50€. We used Clinica Veterinaria San Fernando (Calle de Antonio, Millón, Nerja. Tel: 952521838).

I am sure that may other veterinarians will give you such discount if you explain the situation. Veterinarians are well aware of the wild/stray cat problems and most will help anyone willing to fork out money to have them neutered and prevent future generations of stray cats.

Neutering a Cat

A rather delightful young male cat has decided he rather enjoys a few home comforts and has taken over my third bedroom. He is a stray, one of many, from the rocks on the beach in mezquitilla . I think it irresponsible of me if he starts impregnating the little female feral cats so I enquired locally about him having an operation, the cost of which is 78 euros. It is possibly what I will have to pay but wonder if there is anywhere offering this at a more manageable price for me.

Break-ins to Cars- Torrox Costa

About 6.30pm on Saturday 5th March, my wife and I were walking from Punta del Faro into the Costa. We were near the Opel garage and heard the noise of screeching tyres from behind us. We turned in time to see a dark red 4X4 (possibly a Mitsubishi) come hurtling out of the urbanisation and plough into the back of a parked car. The driver reversed, drove round the car he’d hit and sped off into Torrox Costa. There were three men in the car.

Having managed to get the registration number ( M. WL. 4323), we passed it to the car owner.

Having spoken to this man later that evening it appears that the police suspect the occupants of the 4X4 are responsible for several break ins to vehicles in the area around Punta del Faro, that day, in broad daylight no less.

Breaking into cars is bad enough, but the manner this car was driven in, in an effort to get away shows that these people have no regard for the safety of others.

Whilst it’s impossible to stop people committing this type of crime, a few moments thought on what you leave visible in your car can hopefully make it a bit harder for them.

Pass this on to your friends and neighbours, because these people will target indiscriminately, British, German, Spanish, makes no difference.

Shingles – Afterthought…..(Editor allows this)

I respect your right to close discussions but in this case you have closed it on very misleading information. According to various websites, including CDC and NHS choices, 25% plus of people will have at least one episode of shingles in their lifetime, the risk and occurrence rising as you get older and your immune system weakens rising to about 50% of over 85s. So people in their sixties onwards have a significant risk of developing the condition. The potential long term effects of shingles are more likely as you get older also and while the vaccine only reduces the risk of getting shingles by 50% it reduces the risk of severe long term after effects (post herpetic pain) by 67%.

Tuesday 15th through Saturday 19^th March – Coach Excursion to Madrid, Aranjuez and Toledo. Please come and join friends on a 5 day coach excursion starting in the Torre del Mar area. The first day you will travel to Madrid, the capital of Spain, stopping on the way to purchase breakfast and lunch. The coach will arrive late afternoon at the 4* Senator Spa hotel in Madrid in time for dinner. Wednesday, after breakfast at the hotel, you will have a free day to discover Madrid and a Tourist bus ticket is in included. A day to see the Royal Palace, visit the Prado Museum, Temple of Debod, Plaza Mayor, Gran Via, Retiro Park and much more. Dinner will be provided at the hotel. Thursday, after breakfast, you will join the coach to visit El Valle de los Caidos (Valley of the Fallen), built on the instructions of Francisco Franco, to honour and bury those who fell during the Spanish Civil war. The construction started in 1940 and was completed in 1959 and there will be a guided tour. After the visit you will join the coach to go to the town of Aranjuez, which has been one of the Royal Estates of the Crown of Spain since the time of Philip II in 1560. There will be free time to stroll through the beautiful gardens and purchase lunch after which there will be a guided tour of the beautiful Royal Palace. You will then join the coach for the drive to the city of Toledo for dinner at the 4* Hotel Eurostars Toledo where you will stay for 2 nights. Friday, after breakfast, there is a free day to discover Toledo, known as the “Imperial City”, where there is a beautiful Cathedral, El Greco museum and much more. There is also a small tourist train which takes you around the city with beautiful views. You return to the hotel for dinner.

Saturday, after breakfast, you will join the coach for the return journey stopping on the way to purchase lunch. Ticket price 419 Euros per person in a double room, single room 476 Euros. Supermarket Visit ends in Mugging….

You would think that a straight forward visit to the Supermarket would simply be just that. BUT there’s are gangs out there looking for foreigners, preferably driving a rented car, doing their initial shop after arriving on a self catering rental holiday. They will watch you load up and then follow you to your Rental home and then pounce if the parking area is clear from onlookers. It has happened twice last week. Keep an eye out for this gang and if you think you are being followed on your way home from the Supermarket, write down their registration number and drive straight to the nearest Police station.

Pano Gorreferenciado – Advice Needed Please

Dear Digamigos, we own a finca in Cómpeta campo, and the Gerencia Territorial del Catastro demands to submit within 10 days:

“Plano de parcela georreferenciado o plano adaptado a la cartografía catastral (preferiblemente obtenida de nuestra sede electrónica).”

We only have a “plano planimétrico” from 1996 that obviously doesn’t fit the criteria.

Has someone experience with this subject and knows the best way to handle it?

And can you recommend somebody to manage this in the short term?

There is a clinic in Nerja called Clinica Cecilia in Calle Huertos, very close to the exit from Carabeo car park, its run by an American Doctor, Dr Paula Antony, they will administer the shingles vaccine.

Zostavax you can buy from Germany. It will cost 175,30 Euros plus the costs for the doctor.

The question is, if it is usefull to do it.. There are also side reactions

If you are over 60 years the possibility to get it is 3,3%. If you are vaccinated it falls to 1,6%.

We have pick ups at at the A1 Garden Centre, Torre del Mar bus station and finally at Algarrobo Lidl at 08.30. The bus is parked in Morrisons car park and we leave Gibraltar at 16.30. Due to visa restrictions on entering Gibraltar, please advise if you are a non EU citizen when you book. Also it is important to remember to bring with you your EHIC card, just in case, and passports are essential. On the way to Gibraltar we stop to spend a penny and for coffee.Due to an increase in coach fares we have increased our prices by €1 and we would greatly appreciate if payment was made before the journey. The price? €12pp includes a €1 gratuity for the driver. Children under 12 can join us for 1/2 price. Still the best value on the coast!

Services Needed –Transportation of Industrial Sewing Machine

Looking to hire a person with either a van or pickup truck to move an industrial sewing machine from Rio Gordo to Algarrobo…35k distance between the two points. The moving vehicle must have tie down capacity, as the unit is heavy. It is important that it be properly secured so that it will not be able to move during transport.The machine (with table) measures approximately 1,0m wide x 1,25m high x ,50m wide.

Responses –The Sick Yucca Plant

A couple of days ago someone was asking about a yucca that had gone yellow. In my experience, it either needs water, or if that is not the problem, it needs plant feed. There are most likely no nutrients in the soil anymore so these need to be replaced. You can buy the small blue round granules from a garden centre. Or for better value, go to Los Llanos industrial estate in Torrox Costa and look for the unit where they sell all sorts of feeds for plants and animals, where you can buy a large sack for €15, much cheaper!

Response – Jaguar Car Repair

The price of 5000 euros for a turbo and catalytic converter sounds about right to me for a Jaguar. I have recently paid 4K for a turbo on a Mitsubishi.

An important thing that people look out for when buying used Jaguars is that they have been serviced and maintained by Jaguar specialists, so your mate would be unwise to have a spurious unit fitted.

Recommendation – Shingles Vaccination – Please Respond

A couple of years ago my husband had shingles on his head and face.

Because I had had it myself years ago I recognised it as soon as the first few blisters presented and we were at the doctor the next morning. He was given antivirals and had, we think, a lucky escape as shingles near the eyes is especially dangerous. It is extremely nasty and debilitating illness and anyone who has had chickenpox as a child is liable to develop it as they get older and the immune system gets weaker. At the time we were told the health service here do not vaccinate so I phoned many private clinics and doctors in the area and no-one offered the vaccination, some tried to tell me it was not useful, some had no knowledge of it at all. Since then the UK has introduced it on the health service for over 70s so I presume you can get it privately there.

We don’t go back to the UK so that’s a difficult option for us. I was hoping someone would come up with a recommendation after the Digamextra request but as they haven’t I am wondering if enough of us wanted it whether we could persuade a private clinic to make arrangements for us?

I didn’t have any luck in Spain. My husband and I had a shingles jab each privately at Nomad travel agency in Bristol. I believe there are other Nomad centres in the UK. Don’t know if you can get it in Gibraltar.

Wanted Garden Parasol Base
We have just had a 3 metre garden parasol rebuilt and recovered, and
are now looking for a substantial base in which to plant it, which
would need to take a 36mm diameter pole. Does anyone have one for

broad based ones often seen in cafe bars would be ideal, but plastic

If you want to send a picture please send it as an attachment to your email, in JPG or JPEG format and try and keep the size down to around 200KB.

Please don’t send PDFs or Word documents.

if it were a Contributor’s address I’d insert spaces thus –

janekirkspain @ gmail,com.

So all you do is remove those spaces before contacting a contributor.
