Hundreds of sarcophagi and statues unearthed in an Egyptian necropolis: A team of archaeologists have unearthed in the Saqqara necropolis 250 painted wooden sarcophagi and a bronze chest with 150 statues, also in bronze, of ancient Egyptian deities some 2,500 years old. A beautifully carved headless statue of the engineer Imhotep was also discovered. A collection of Late Period painted intact wooden sarcophagi with mummies inside burial pits was also unearthed along with amulets, wooden boxes and statues with gilt faces. -24th – A visit to the fabulous Alhambra Palace. The price is 60€pp and includes Entry to the Palace and Guide. If this is not to your liking, stop off at the largest shopping centre in Europe, The Nevada Centre for 20€pp

-22nd – Day trip to Cadiz with Guide €35pp. Cádiz, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe, with archaeological remains dating to the 12th century BC, was founded by the Phoenicians. It has been a principal home port of the Spanish Navy since the accession of the Spanish Bourbons in the 18th century. It is also the site of the University of Cádiz.
Situated on a narrow slice of land surrounded by the sea‚ Cádiz is, in most respects, a typically Andalusian city with well-preserved historical landmarks. The older part of Cádiz, within the remnants of the city walls, is commonly referred to as the Old Town (Spanish: Casco Antiguo). It is characterized by the antiquity of its various quarters (barrios), among them El Pópulo, La Viña, and Santa María, which present a marked contrast to the newer areas of town. While the Old City’s street plan consists of narrow winding alleys connecting large plazas, newer areas of Cádiz typically have wide avenues and more modern buildings. In addition, the city is dotted with numerous parks where exotic plants flourish, including giant trees allegedly brought to Spain by Columbus from the New World
-29th – Trip to the Biopark in Fuengirola €30pp TBC includes entry to the park

Bio Beach Restaurant- El Morche:
As mentioned last week, I wonder how many Digamites are familiar with Poké. No, not Pokémon, totally unrelated, but both are very popular in certain circles! Poké, (pronounced poh-keh not poke-ee), is a classic chopped raw fish salad, first created in the late 1970’s by Hawaiian fishermen. It started as a quick and easy fishermen’s ‘’fast food’’ but it soon grew to global proportions, so much so that you can find a Poké chain of restaurants with very appreciative customers. In Bio Beach, you can select one of three choices of marinated fish (not raw), salmon, tuna and shrimp. The staff will not mind if you like to switch things around. For example, my favourite combination is the cold salmon with a base of warm quinoa, cool crunchy cucumbers, creamy avocadoes and sweet ripe tomatoes. The menu will present all the specifics! And check the rest of the menu, it is full of tasty surprises and delicious food combinations. Bio Beach offers you some of the best food, company and vistas in La Costa del Sol. Watch this space and we’ll introduce you to Poke next time. Happy Munching! The staff is professional, friendly and make you feel totally at home! Tell them DigameXtra sent you there!
The Bio Beach lectures are taking a pause for the summer. We will resume in September with a food presentation on Wed. Sept. 14th at 11am. These programmes are free, just order refreshments. We belong to U3A, (http://www.u3aaxarquia.com/) and these programmes are presented in an effort to attract more members. Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade right behind the church. We look forward to see you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com

The same goes for bread, which “a loaf of bread with gluten can cost 70 cents and a packet of bread for coeliacs costs three euros”, says Marta Rodríguez, who has suffered from coeliac disease since she was 12 years old. On the other hand, Lucía Román, who has had coeliac condition for some years now, assures us that “there is an increasing variety of products”.
-In Malaga, you can find El Pastelero Real, an establishment that has been selling gluten-free products since the end of 2016. Its owner confirms that the price of items for coeliacs is much higher than those containing gluten, “a kilo of normal flour can cost around 40 cents, a kilo of gluten-free flour costs around four and a half euros”. This means that the bakery does not have much margin with the final price of the product, but they are confident that “if things are done well in the end, people will come back”.
-On the other hand, Nanci, owner of Vida Libre de Gluten (pic), where she prepares Argentinian empanadas, pizzas, hamburgers and desserts, says that “sometimes it is difficult to get the ingredients at an affordable price”. But she also guarantees that within her menu, the difference in cost between gluten-free and gluten-free products is minimal, as she considers that the dishes she prepares in a normal establishment “usually cost 10% less, so there is some difference, but not that much”. UK

No deal reached yet for UK driving licence holders to swap to a Spanish permit:
-No agreement has been reached between the British and Spanish governments to allow people living in Spain who hold UK driving licences to swap to a Spanish one without taking a test.
-Since 30 April, when a grace period for using UK licences after Brexit ended, expats who were unable to swap to a Spanish licence before Brexit, or who came later and have been living in Spain for more than six months, have had to stop driving. The alternative is to pay and prepare for theory and practical driving tests – for which there are few appointments in some areas.
-Sources have said the sticking point between the UK and Spain on a simpler swap deal, which Spain has in place with many other countries, is that Spain also wants real-time access to the UK’s data on who owns vehicles with British number plates when they are stopped in Spain. Boris Johnson ‘will announce return of imperial measurements to mark Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’: Shops could soon be allowed to sell products in pounds and ounces after UK’s break from EU. Pint glasses will also be adorned with a Crown for the first time in nearly 20 years after Ministers axed EU rules banning the patriotic symbol. Incredible Discovery Beneath the Southern Amazon Reveals Urban-Agrarian Society Never Seen Before: A paper published this week in “Nature” reveals that down in an alluvial plane in Bolivia’s Llanos de Mojos savannah in southwest Amazonia, flourished an agrarian low-density urban society for 900 years, building hundreds of acres of monumental earthworks, canals, walls and fortifications, and large pyramids. The Casarabe culture transformed and lived off the land in way few archeologists and historians believed possible for the Amazon. Image:Heiko Prümers. Covid Andalucia- Andalusia enters “very pronounced downward” Covid-19 incidence phase: {Translation} 27/05/2022 13:53
-The Andalusian Regional Minister for Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre, said on Friday that the region is on a “very marked downward” trend in the incidence of the coronavirus.
-The minister said that as of today Andalusia has 691 hospitalised patients, which is “90 less than last Tuesday”.
-In addition, there are 40 people in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while the cumulative incidence is 467 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the age of 60, when the “average for Spain is 800 cases”.
-The minister stressed that the incidence in Andalusia is the “lowest of all the autonomous communities”, which is why he considered that “something is being done” in the region, which has “very good figures”.
-He stressed that the “weakest link, such as the residences”, are increasingly “free of covid” and more than “85 percent” of the 1,107 existing in Andalusia do not register any cases, which means that these figures “call for hope”, he concluded. Covid Malaga- Malaga records 872 new cases and 5 deaths due to coronavirus: {Translation} 27May22
-The province of Malaga currently has the lowest number of hospitalised patients with Covid in the last six months. There are 107 patients with the virus in hospital, seven of whom are in intensive care. We have to go back to the beginning of December to find similar numbers. In addition, there has been a sharp decrease in the pressure of care compared to the previous report, from last Tuesday. At that time there were 141 hospitalised patients. On the other hand, although tests are now only carried out on the over 60s and vulnerable people, the total number of infected people in the province is close to 300,000 in these 26 months of health crisis.
-On this Friday, five more people have died since Tuesday. This brings the total number of fatalities with the pathogen to 2,447 in the province since March 2020.
-In the last three days, there have been 40 new hospitalized people. This brings the total to 14,200 in the more than two years of the health crisis. Of these, 1,148 (+1 compared to the previous report) have required admission to an ICU since the start of the pandemic.
-The number of positives detected adds another 872, bringing the cumulative figure to almost 300,000. The number of people who have been discharged from the ICU stands at 283,422. Since the previous report, 1,167 more people have been cured.
-With regard to vaccination in Malaga, the Andalusian Government has reported that 3,485,804 doses have been administered in the province. There are 1,409,280 with the full schedule and 781,038 with the three doses. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/malaga-registra-872-nuevos-contagios-y-5-fallecidos-por-coronavirus/

-In total, three cases have been confirmed to date in the region: two in the province of Seville and one in the province of Cadiz, while after the latest update of the data, 18 cases are under investigation and 12 have been ruled out.

TECH

Stalkerware- A Face Search Engine Anyone Can Use Is Alarmingly Accurate: You have just lost another serious degree of privacy. For $29.99 a month, a website called PimEyes offers a potentially dangerous superpower from the world of science fiction: the ability to search for a face, finding obscure photos that would otherwise have been as safe as the proverbial needle in the vast digital haystack of the internet.
-A search takes mere seconds. You upload a photo of a face, check a box agreeing to the terms of service and then get a grid of photos of faces deemed similar, with links to where they appear on the internet.
– The New York Times used PimEyes on the faces of a dozen Times journalists, with their consent, to test its powers. PimEyes found photos of every person, some that the journalists had never seen before, even when they were wearing sunglasses or a mask, or their face was turned away from the camera, in the image used to conduct the search.
-PimEyes found one reporter dancing at an art museum event a decade ago, and crying after being proposed to, a photo that she didn’t particularly like but that the photographer had decided to use to advertise his business on Yelp. A tech reporter’s younger self was spotted in an awkward crush of fans at the Coachella music festival in 2011. A foreign correspondent appeared in countless wedding photos, evidently the life of every party, and in the blurry background of a photo taken of someone else at a Greek airport in 2019. A journalist’s past life in a rock band was unearthed, as was another’s preferred summer camp getaway.

ALMUNECAR

Almuñecar / La Herradura Jet-ski problem: Asociación Amigos Del Mar in La Herradura, a registered non-profit marine protection and conservation group, is attempting to address the increasing Jet-ski problem ahead of the summer rush.
Addressing the safety and noise problems caused by irresponsible riders, and following a pre-Covid survey indicating that 80% of respondents are negatively affected by them, AdM has launched a petition to demonstrate to the Ayuntamiento of Almuñécar just how many people are fed up.
This is a global problem, not helped by there being different jurisdictions responsible for land and sea. AdM hopes to persuade the Ayto to close the municipal launch ramps to private, unsupervised jetski users who are often ignorant of the rules or operation, the minimum distance from the shoreline and beaches, as well as the areas specifically off-limits to protect the unique coral in the Maro – Cerro Gordo waters.

Teleportation breakthrough paves the way for quantum internet:
A Dutch team has succeeded in exchanging qubits between distant nodes with no direct connection between sender and receiver. This quantum leap, published Wednesday in the journal “Nature”, means we are one step closer to a quantum internet which would then lead to an entirely new kind of computer that could carry out tasks that would take supercomputers thousands of years in a matter of minutes, paving the way for huge progress in the realms of medicine and artificial intelligence. Shattered comet could produce dazzling meteor shower- How to watch the tau Herculids: The shower, which has been called the tau Herculids, is set to fall from the shattered SW3 comet beginning May 30 and peaking on May 31 between 12:45 p.m. and 01:17 a.m. EDT, lighting up skies across the U.S. and parts of Canada with some brief but bright streaks of flame.
-The best place to look for the comet is the constellation Boötes, which is just next to the star Arcturus, according to EarthSky. Additionally, as the moon will be in a new phase, the sky will be dark, making potential viewing easier.
-NASA astronomer Bill Cooke described the comet’s possible upcoming appearance in a NASA statement as an “all or nothing event.” The show would be the result of debris cast off from a fragment of the comet. While comet debris most often falls behind the comet fragment to form the tail, sometimes it can get expelled at such a high velocity that the bits of ice and rock are slingshotted ahead of the comet. For us to see this debris as it burns up in our atmosphere it has to be either big enough or fast enough to burn brightly as our planet treks through its path, according to the American Meteor Society (AMS). Kinder withdraws over 3,000 tonnes of products after Salmonella cases: More than 3,000 tonnes of Kinder products have been withdrawn from the market over salmonella fears leaving a dent of tens of millions of euros, a company official told France’s Le Parisien daily Thursday. Nicolas Neykov, the head of Ferrero France, said the contamination came “from a filter located in a vat for dairy butter”, at a factory in Arlon in Belgium. He said the contamination could have been caused by humans or raw materials. Chocolate products made at the factory in Arlon, southeastern Belgium, were found to contain salmonella, resulting in 150 cases in nine European countries. These recalls were made in a series and extended thru the Easter week, just when consumption of  these products peaks. Full article:

MALAGA

Low-cost filling stations continue to expand their presence in Malaga: Malaga is one of the most popular provinces for these businesses which want to grow because fuel prices are among the most expensive in the country.
-Ballenoil, for example, has announced that it will be opening eight more filling stations before the end of this year, bringing the total to 17. The new ones will be in Torremolinos, Antequera, two in Marbella, Cancelada (Estepona), Malaga city, San Pedro Alcántara and Benahavís. In total the company plans to open 18 new filling stations in Andalucía, so almost half of them will be in Malaga.
-Another of Spain’s leading independent groups, Plenoil, is also planning to open more filling stations. It already has ten projects under way in the province, and four will be in Malaga city. In February, Malaga council approved plans for a new low-cost filling station beween Calle La Boheme and Calle Flauta Mágica, on the Alameda industrial estate, after four years of bureaucratic processes. Plenoil plans to open 15 of these new businesses in the next three years. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/cost-filling-stations-20220524165621-nt.html

VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA

Vélez-Málaga is requesting the extension of trading hours for the weekends of the summer and Holy Week: {Translation, summary}
-The Town Hall of Vélez-Málaga wants the shops in the municipality to have free opening hours during the summer weekends and during Easter. For this reason, they have announced through a statement that they have requested the declaration of the municipality as a Zone of Great Tourist Affluence in application of the Decree Law of Improvement and Simplification of the Regulation for the Promotion of Productive Activity in Andalusia.
-For Velez-Malaga, in terms of tourism and within this revitalisation of local commerce, “it is a relevant aspect within the commercial revitalisation in times of high influx of tourism,” the Town Hall has indicated in a statement, where they point out that only Torrox, Algarrobo and Velez-Malaga do not have this declaration.
-This would only have an effect on business hours, allowing the additional opening of Sundays and public holidays only and exclusively at Easter and the months of July, August and September. In total about 16 or 17 days a year. “It is precisely in these summer periods that the population grows and tourism fills the municipality,” the document states. Italy international Zaniolo struck with a well-taken finish in the 32nd minute to earn Roma their first trophy of any kind since 2008 and cap a successful first season for coach Jose Mourinho in Rome. Mourinho was moved to tears by his fifth continental cup as a coach, the first for an Italian team since he led Inter Milan to the Champions League 12 years ago.

Stargazers hopeful for a spectacular meteor shower in the night sky at the end of this month: The reason is the 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 comet, which was discovered in 1930 when it passed by at 9.2 million kilometres from the Earth, and is now split into numerous fragments. At that time it was never bright enough to be visible with the naked eye, only through good binoculars or a telescope.
-On the night of 30 May, it will be the first time the Earth and the trail of debris ejected by the comet in 1995 have crossed paths since the fragmentation. However, nobody knows exactly where the meteoroids have extended, so it is difficult to predict how many will be visible. The final intensity of the meteor shower will depend on whether the debris has spread far enough ahead of the comet. Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

Covid Spain- Incidence in people over 60 drops almost 50 points since Friday and Health adds 158 deaths: {Translated from elDiario.es}
– The Ministry of Health has registered 42,272 new infections since Friday, which represents a notable decrease compared to the data for that day last week, when 52,112 positives were reported, while the last report had collected 58,839. Today’s figure is the lowest since April 12, when fewer than 35,000 positives were reported. In total, since the start of the pandemic, the health authorities have confirmed 12,280,345.
-The incidence of coronavirus in those over 60 years of age and at 14 days stands at 800.47 points per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a decrease to the figures for early May. This indicator last Friday had stood at 848.62 positives per 100,000 inhabitants.
-As for mortality, the deceased notified this Tuesday also represent a setback compared to those that Health recorded in recent weeks. Since Friday, communities have reported 158 deaths from coronavirus, while 305 had been reported the previous Friday, although the figure is not comparable because it does not include the same number of days. In any case, this is the lowest number of deaths since the reporting system of the Ministry of Health changed, which went from reporting daily to only twice a week. In total, since the start of the pandemic, a total of 106,105 people have died.
-The situation in hospitals remains more or less stable, although with an upward trend. In intensive care there are 363 patients, one less than on Friday, but since that day those hospitalized in general beds have increased by almost 200. In percentage terms, the occupation right now is 6.12% nationwide, by 5 .94% of Friday. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/

SPAIN

What Did Spanish President Pedro Sánchez Say In Yesterday’s Speech to the World Economic Forum in Davos?: {Translation in full}
-I fail to understand why in Europe we are willing to intervene in the financial system if something does not work, but we are incapable of intervening in the energy market when there are clearly problems”. This was the complaint of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, during his participation in a colloquium at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
-The Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, pointed out to him that “it is clear that there are possible improvements in the price system, but it cannot be changed from one day to the next and it has to be done very carefully so as not to cause serious damage”. Timmermans understands that “Spain has a good proportion of renewables and pays for clean electricity at gas prices, we have an agency that is dealing with that and the Commission is putting proposals on the table, but it is important not to destroy the markets along the way”.
-His arguments, however, have not convinced Sánchez, who has insisted that “it is not so much a question of financing as of political will” and has stressed that “we have to talk about this now, because it makes no sense to pay these prices that in the end reach industries and families. We have to be more ambitious at the European level, it is clear that it is always difficult to move the status quo, but we are at a defining moment and we run the risk of using the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, as excuses for not modernizing a market subject to financial speculation”.
-Sanchez also boasted about the scope of renewables in the Spanish mix and pointed out that southern Europe, and most particularly Spain, has the necessary capacities to respond to the shortage of gas supply from Russia, which threatens to paralyze economies such as Germany. “We have the capacity, what is missing are the interconnections and in this sense the EU must think about how to establish them,” he said, recalling that “Spain represents 37% of the total regasification capacity of the European Union,” and that “together with Portugal it hosts about half of the EU’s liquefied natural gas storage,” suggesting that this time it may be southern Europe that rescues the rich countries in the energy crisis triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
-“This war has also given us a very important lesson, and that is that renewables, hydrogen, energy efficiency, are not only a great ally for countries and economies to face climate change efforts, but in this complex and uncertain geopolitical scenario, it will also provide us with the means to increase our resilience and autonomy,” he added. Killer Whales “Attack’ Two Sailboats in The Strait in 24hrs, 20 since April: {Translation}
-Two new “interactions” between Orcas (killer whales) and sailing vessels in the Strait of Gibraltar are added to the twenty or so recorded since April.
-Two new sailboats have suffered in the last 24 hours damage caused by killer whales swimming through the Strait of Gibraltar and have had to be towed by Maritime Rescue to the port of Barbate (Cadiz), have informed EFE sources of this agency.
-The last of the episodes has happened tonight, when a sailboat called “Cachaca” and was seven miles southwest of Barbate (Cádiz) suffered collisions with killer whales. The sailboat, 14 meters long and that, at the time of the incident, had three crew members on board, asked for help to Maritime Rescue, which sent the vessel Salvamar Enif to tow it and take it to the port of Barbate, where it has docked at 5.00 am.
-Another similar incident occurred in the same area, in the waters of Barbate, at 7:20 yesterday morning and also the sailboat had to be towed by Maritime Rescue to the port of the town of Cádiz.
-These are two new “interactions” between killer whales and sailboats in the Strait of Gibraltar in addition to the twenty that have been recorded since last April, and have left disabled the rudder of at least ten boats.
-Although the causes of these episodes are still under investigation, specialists believe that killer whales may be attracted by the friction of the rudder blade of sailboats, boats that do not emit noises that would scare them away when they move without an engine.
-They also occur especially in areas close to where the fish traps work, areas where killer whales also concentrate in search of bluefin tuna, according to the sources.
-Last summer, when until September 3 at least 69 contacts with sailboats were recorded, of which 30 required towing for losing the rudder, there was a significant increase in these incidents, so that imposed was prohibition of the navigation of these vessels of less than 15 meters in the cove of Barbate (Cádiz). Capitanía Marítima has not yet taken the decision this year, to avoid dangerous situations, to re-establish this prohibition, pending the advice of the Atlantic Orca Working Group, which brings together specialists and scientists from the Strait of Gibraltar, Galicia, Portugal and France. Today’s Malware: {Since hackers want to collect your data and credentials, they want your computer running well, with their malware operating silently undetected in the background. They no longer try to break or slow your computer. Current consumer level antivirus programs are limited in the types of malware they can identify. That is why annual professional servicing is necessary to maintain a secure computer. The tools to detect and remove the new forms of malware are complex and can do serious damage if used incorrectly. -Ed.}
In this day and age, we are not dealing with roughly pieced together, homebrew type of viruses anymore. Malware is an industry, and professional developers are found to exchange info, be it by stealing one’s code or deliberate collaboration. Attacks are multi-layer these days, with diverse sophisticated software apps taking over different jobs along the attack-chain from initial compromise to ultimate data exfiltration or encryption. This allows malware to avoid detection by antivirus software. The specific tools for each stage are highly specialized and can often be rented as a service, including customer support and subscription models for professional (ab)use. Malware gets updates to help keep it ahead of scanners. Obviously, this has largely increased both the availability and the potential effectiveness and impact of malware. Sound scary?

Google brings Street View history to phones, introduces “Street View Studio”: Today is the 15th birthday of Google Maps Street View, Google’s project to take ground-level, 360-degree photographs of the entire world. To celebrate, the company is rolling out a few new features.
-First up, Google is bringing historical Street View data to iOS and Android phones. The feature has long existed on desktop browsers, where you can click into Street View mode and then time travel through Google’s image archives. When you tap on a place to see Street View imagery, a “see more dates” button will appear next to the current age of the photo, letting you browse all the photos for that area going back to 2007. Google says the feature will release “starting today on Android and iOS globally,” though, like all Google product launches, it will take some time to fully roll out. Those entering the country on the basis of a recovery certificate must show a document issued by relevant health authorities in his/her country of residence in the last 180 days. The document must have been issued at least 11 days after confirmation of COVID infection by PCR or antigen test. Full article: https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/

Promised Electricity Savings Cut In Half: Ribera admits the expected 30% reduction in electricity will only be 15%. The Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, admitted this Monday that there is some “uncertainty” in calculating the exact reduction in the price of electricity once the cap on gas to generate electricity comes into force, but maintains that the forecast of the Executive is that it will fluctuate between 15 and 20%. Ribera corrects herself, since on numerous occasions she had maintained that the reduction in the price of electricity with the new mechanism would be 30%. Full article: https://spainsnews.com

Spanish Police & LaLiga Carry Out Nationwide Pirate IPTV Crackdown at Businesses & Homes: LaLiga’s premium content is widely pirated in both homes and commercial premises such as bars and restaurants. The investigation identified locations in more than a dozen regions across Spain including Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Gijón, Madrid, Vigo, Las Palmas, Bilbao and Barcelona. Coordinated inspections were carried out by police on a day when LaLiga Santander matches were being played, and 166 bars were identified as being involved in the fraudulent display of copyrighted content. The infringed content included matches from LaLiga Santandar and the prestigious UEFA Champions League.
-“As a result of [the operation], the entire infrastructure that allowed the illegal viewing of paid multimedia content was dismantled, with the identification of those responsible and the cessation of the illegal service they provided,” a statement from the National Police reads. During the operation police seized a large number of piracy-configured devices including Amazon Firesticks, generic Android boxes, and others from unnamed manufacturers.
-According to the authorities, the owners of the bars that used the devices to receive and display pirated live matches will be charged with offenses related to the fraudulent reception and distribution of copyrighted broadcasts accessed from encrypted sources. Flea infestation at the Interstellar Festival in Seville- “I thought I had the monkey virus”: {Translation, summary}
-Plague of fleas in the Interstellar festival that has been held over the past weekend in the Cartuja. Hundreds of attendees, mostly young people, who have attended the concerts of the sixth edition of the festival held in the meadow of the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art (CAAC) and attended by approximately 20,000 people between concerts throughout the weekend (Friday and Saturday), are affected by the bite of these nasty insects.
-And is that what in principle could be a weekend of fun has become a nightmare for many, affected by the bite of these fleas. “I thought I had the monkey virus and they were fleas,” said Pablo G., a 19-year-old boy who keeps complaining about the hundreds of bites on his arms, legs and practically all over his body, which are becoming very uncomfortable now that he is in the middle of studying for his university exams.
-Complaints about this plague have flooded social networks and some users have even created an Instagram account called Pulgasinteresetelar and subtitled “Official account of the fleas of Interstellar 2022. Thank you Sevilla for this fantastic weekend”. In that network, as in others like Twitter or Facebook, there are numerous comments, mostly in a jocular tone about what happened this weekend in the Cartuja. EU advises countries to plan vaccines for monkeypox outbreak:
In a report published today, the EU organisation said: ‘Countries should update their contact tracing mechanisms, their diagnostic capacity for orthopoxviruses and review the availability of smallpox vaccines, antivirals and personal protective equipment (PPE) for health professionals.’ It advises that government should review the types, doses and authorisation status of vaccines in case they need to be deployed.
-The report does not recommend mass vaccination programmes of people not at particular risk. It says that healthcare workers who may be exposed to the virus could be vaccinated as a precaution.
-At the moment, there is no specific approved vaccine, but the vaccine for smallpox is effective. If the current outbreaks continue to grow, states are likely to have to start rolling out jabs to try and get on top of the spread. For example, close contacts of those infected could be given the vaccine to give them protection.
-The UK has already recommended that close contacts of those with monkeypox could be given a Postexposure Prophylaxis (PEP) vaccine. This would be the Imvanex vaccine against smallpox, which contains a live modified form of the vaccinia virus called ‘vaccinia Ankara’, which is related to the smallpox virus.
-Initial symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion.
A rash can develop, often beginning on the face, then spreading to other parts of the body including the genitals. The rash changes and goes through different stages – it can look like chickenpox or syphilis, before finally forming a scab which later falls off. Most people recover in a few weeks even without treatment, but it can cause serious illness in some people. Young children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems are thought to be particularly affected.

A visa by any other name…: Travellers from 63 world countries, who are eligible to enter the Schengen Area visa-free, will have to apply for a travel authorization before their trip to any of the 26 Member Countries by May 2023, when the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is set to become fully effective. It is estimated that the new requirement will affect around 1.4 billion travellers from countries that have a visa-free travel regime with the EU.
-Travellers applying for an ETIAS will have to complete an online form with information regarding their identity, travel intention, and background security information, as well as upload a scanned copy of their passport and a digital biometric photo.
-Travellers will also have to pay a fee of €7 online. Yet, they will not have to go to an embassy, give fingerprints, or attend an interview. Once approved, an ETIAS authorization will be valid for an initial period of three years or up until the applicant’s passport expires, whichever comes first. The confirmation is sent to each applicant’s email, and then the same should be carried and presented to border officers, if required, either in digital form or printed when travelling to the Schengen Area. -22nd – Day trip to Cadiz with Guide €35pp. Cádiz, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Western Europe , with archaeological remains dating to the 12th century BC, was founded by the Phoenicians.
It is characterized by the antiquity of its various quarters (barrios), among them El Pópulo, La Viña , and Santa María, which present a marked contrast to the newer areas of town. While the Old City’s street plan consists of narrow winding alleys connecting large plazas, newer areas of Cádiz typically have wide avenues and more modern buildings. In addition, the city is dotted with numerous parks where exotic plants flourish, including giant trees allegedly brought to Spain by Columbus from the New World .
-29th – Trip to the Biopark in Fuengirola €30pp TBC includes entry to the park.

30 cases of monkeypox confirmed in Madrid and another 40 under study: {Translation} 22May22 18:36
-The Community of Madrid has 30 confirmed cases of monkeypox and another 40 are still being studied as suspects, according to data provided on Sunday by the regional health minister, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, who reiterated that work is being done to try to locate the chain of transmission. In Spain, at least six autonomous communities have registered possible cases of smallpox.
-The 30 cases confirmed in Madrid have been confirmed through PCR tests, while the remaining 40 are awaiting sequencing. All those affected are males who are progressing favourably and are in isolation. The infections, according to initial data, occurred through two chains of transmission, one of them related to a sauna in the capital, which has now been closed.
-Most of them would be related to sexual relations between men. “The main thing now is to locate the traceability of all cases and from there to achieve isolation and try to stop the transmission of the virus. We must continue and wait for these tests to arrive as soon as possible and try to confirm who is infected and establish the necessary isolation mechanisms in these cases,” said Ruiz Escudero.
-The World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed more than 80 cases and announced a working protocol with the affected countries, more than a dozen according to its estimates, to improve “their understanding of the extent and causes of the disease”. The WHO is also aware of another 50 or so cases pending confirmation of a virus it describes as “endemic in animal populations in several countries”. Source, Spanish: https://www.canarias7.es/

MALAGA

Skyrocketing Rents A Threat to Young Workers and Healthy Development of Communities: {Translation, summary}
-A youth unemployment rate of 33%, low wages and the high price of flats prevent youth emancipation. Record breaking numbers of evictions and squatted properties plague the region at a time when landlords are raising rents to try and cover losses incurred due to Covid caused high vacancy rates the past 2 years.
-It has never been easy for young people (between 18 and 25 years of age) to leave their parents’ house and start their lives independently, but now it is practically impossible, thus hindering their development in life. The youth unemployment rate in Malaga is skyrocketing, those who do get a job tend to have low wages or precarious conditions and the price of housing, both for buying and renting, is skyrocketing. It is an explosive mixture that prevents today’s youth, the most educated in history, from being able to grow from a personal point of view. And that, subsequently, leads to later relationships, lower birth rates, frustrations, in short, problems.
-The latest Emancipation Observatory published by the Spanish Youth Council, with data from the first half of 2021, is devastating. “We have the sad honor of registering the lowest emancipation rate of this century,” reads the document, which exposes the current situation of young people without mincing words. Only 15% of young people have managed to become independent, being the lowest figure since 1998.
-Buying a house and taking out a mortgage is unfeasible, for most young people it never even crosses their minds. But the option of renting is also very complicated and in order to get it, one has to resign oneself to sharing a flat between several people, as if one were an eternal student. “A young person who wants to emancipate themselves on their own would spend, on average, 81.9% of their salary on rent or would have to adjust to a maximum tolerable surface area of 29.3 square metres”, regrets the report by the Spanish Youth Council. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/
(Depending on how the Andalucian elections turn out, this situation could lead to rent controls. If these trends continue, and landlords refuse to moderate rents to be in line with local economies, then the gov’t will eventually step in to do the moderating, as we see in Catalonia right now. -Ed.)

EUROPE

The UN condemns the “stigmatization of LGTBI and Africans” in “stereotyped” information about monkeypox: {Translation}
-The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) on Sunday condemned “stereotypical” reports and comments about the spread of monkeypox that have contributed to reinforcing homophobic and racist stigma against the LGTBI community and citizens of African countries.
-UNAIDS said in a statement released Sunday that “a significant proportion of cases have been identified among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men, with some cases identified through sexual health clinics.
-However, the UN programme recalls that “the World Health Organization (WHO) notes that available evidence suggests that those most at risk are those who have had close physical contact with someone with monkeypox, and that risk is not limited to men who have sex with men”. “Lessons from the AIDS response show that stigma and blame directed at certain groups of people can quickly undermine the response to the outbreak,” the programme laments in the statement. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/

Meet the ‘Hermettes’: A Secret Society of Women Who Prefer to Be Left Alone: “Hermette” derives from hermit, those who live in solitude or in a small social circle. The society holds many misunderstandings toward hermits. People see them as self-centered, anti-social, hostile, cynical, fearful of people, and uncooperative.
-It never was common to live as a hermit, and in the Western world, hermits are still rare. It’s even harder for women to choose this lifestyle. The masculine hermit has existed across cultures for many years, but the feminine of a hermit – what I call a hermette – is a lifestyle that I believe should become a new feminine ideal.
