Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

COVID

Covid Spain- Incidence in people over 60 drops almost 50 points since Friday and Health adds 158 deaths: {Translated from elDiario.es}
– The Ministry of Health has registered 42,272 new infections since Friday, which represents a notable decrease compared to the data for that day last week, when 52,112 positives were reported, while the last report had collected 58,839. Today’s figure is the lowest since April 12, when fewer than 35,000 positives were reported. In total, since the start of the pandemic, the health authorities have confirmed 12,280,345.
-The incidence of coronavirus in those over 60 years of age and at 14 days stands at 800.47 points per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a decrease to the figures for early May. This indicator last Friday had stood at 848.62 positives per 100,000 inhabitants.
-As for mortality, the deceased notified this Tuesday also represent a setback compared to those that Health recorded in recent weeks. Since Friday, communities have reported 158 deaths from coronavirus, while 305 had been reported the previous Friday, although the figure is not comparable because it does not include the same number of days. In any case, this is the lowest number of deaths since the reporting system of the Ministry of Health changed, which went from reporting daily to only twice a week. In total, since the start of the pandemic, a total of 106,105 people have died.
-The situation in hospitals remains more or less stable, although with an upward trend. In intensive care there are 363 patients, one less than on Friday, but since that day those hospitalized in general beds have increased by almost 200. In percentage terms, the occupation right now is 6.12% nationwide, by 5 .94% of Friday. Full article: https://spainsnews.com/

SPAIN

What Did Spanish President Pedro Sánchez Say In Yesterday’s Speech to the World Economic Forum in Davos?: {Translation in full}
-I fail to understand why in Europe we are willing to intervene in the financial system if something does not work, but we are incapable of intervening in the energy market when there are clearly problems”. This was the complaint of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, during his participation in a colloquium at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
-The Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans, pointed out to him that “it is clear that there are possible improvements in the price system, but it cannot be changed from one day to the next and it has to be done very carefully so as not to cause serious damage”. Timmermans understands that “Spain has a good proportion of renewables and pays for clean electricity at gas prices, we have an agency that is dealing with that and the Commission is putting proposals on the table, but it is important not to destroy the markets along the way”.
-His arguments, however, have not convinced Sánchez, who has insisted that “it is not so much a question of financing as of political will” and has stressed that “we have to talk about this now, because it makes no sense to pay these prices that in the end reach industries and families. We have to be more ambitious at the European level, it is clear that it is always difficult to move the status quo, but we are at a defining moment and we run the risk of using the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, as excuses for not modernizing a market subject to financial speculation”.
-Sanchez also boasted about the scope of renewables in the Spanish mix and pointed out that southern Europe, and most particularly Spain, has the necessary capacities to respond to the shortage of gas supply from Russia, which threatens to paralyze economies such as Germany. “We have the capacity, what is missing are the interconnections and in this sense the EU must think about how to establish them,” he said, recalling that “Spain represents 37% of the total regasification capacity of the European Union,” and that “together with Portugal it hosts about half of the EU’s liquefied natural gas storage,” suggesting that this time it may be southern Europe that rescues the rich countries in the energy crisis triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
-“This war has also given us a very important lesson, and that is that renewables, hydrogen, energy efficiency, are not only a great ally for countries and economies to face climate change efforts, but in this complex and uncertain geopolitical scenario, it will also provide us with the means to increase our resilience and autonomy,” he added. CÁDIZ

Killer Whales “Attack’ Two Sailboats in The Strait in 24hrs, 20 since April: {Translation}
-Two new “interactions” between Orcas (killer whales) and sailing vessels in the Strait of Gibraltar are added to the twenty or so recorded since April.
-Two new sailboats have suffered in the last 24 hours damage caused by killer whales swimming through the Strait of Gibraltar and have had to be towed by Maritime Rescue to the port of Barbate (Cadiz), have informed EFE sources of this agency.
-The last of the episodes has happened tonight, when a sailboat called “Cachaca” and was seven miles southwest of Barbate (Cádiz) suffered collisions with killer whales. The sailboat, 14 meters long and that, at the time of the incident, had three crew members on board, asked for help to Maritime Rescue, which sent the vessel Salvamar Enif to tow it and take it to the port of Barbate, where it has docked at 5.00 am.
-Another similar incident occurred in the same area, in the waters of Barbate, at 7:20 yesterday morning and also the sailboat had to be towed by Maritime Rescue to the port of the town of Cádiz.
-These are two new “interactions” between killer whales and sailboats in the Strait of Gibraltar in addition to the twenty that have been recorded since last April, and have left disabled the rudder of at least ten boats.
-Although the causes of these episodes are still under investigation, specialists believe that killer whales may be attracted by the friction of the rudder blade of sailboats, boats that do not emit noises that would scare them away when they move without an engine.
-They also occur especially in areas close to where the fish traps work, areas where killer whales also concentrate in search of bluefin tuna, according to the sources.
-Last summer, when until September 3 at least 69 contacts with sailboats were recorded, of which 30 required towing for losing the rudder, there was a significant increase in these incidents, so that imposed was prohibition of the navigation of these vessels of less than 15 meters in the cove of Barbate (Cádiz). Capitanía Marítima has not yet taken the decision this year, to avoid dangerous situations, to re-establish this prohibition, pending the advice of the Atlantic Orca Working Group, which brings together specialists and scientists from the Strait of Gibraltar, Galicia, Portugal and France. TECH

Today’s Malware: {Since hackers want to collect your data and credentials, they want your computer running well, with their malware operating silently undetected in the background. They no longer try to break or slow your computer. Current consumer level antivirus programs are limited in the types of malware they can identify. That is why annual professional servicing is necessary to maintain a secure computer. The tools to detect and remove the new forms of malware are complex and can do serious damage if used incorrectly. -Ed.}
In this day and age, we are not dealing with roughly pieced together, homebrew type of viruses anymore. Malware is an industry, and professional developers are found to exchange info, be it by stealing one’s code or deliberate collaboration. Attacks are multi-layer these days, with diverse sophisticated software apps taking over different jobs along the attack-chain from initial compromise to ultimate data exfiltration or encryption. This allows malware to avoid detection by antivirus software. The specific tools for each stage are highly specialized and can often be rented as a service, including customer support and subscription models for professional (ab)use. Malware gets updates to help keep it ahead of scanners. Obviously, this has largely increased both the availability and the potential effectiveness and impact of malware. Sound scary?

The feature has long existed on desktop browsers, where you can click into Street View mode and then time travel through Google’s image archives. When you tap on a place to see Street View imagery, a “see more dates” button will appear next to the current age of the photo, letting you browse all the photos for that area going back to 2007. Google says the feature will release “starting today on Android and iOS globally,” though, like all Google product launches, it will take some time to fully roll out.
