Promised Electricity Savings Cut In Half: Ribera admits the expected 30% reduction in electricity will only be 15%. The Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, admitted this Monday that there is some “uncertainty” in calculating the exact reduction in the price of electricity once the cap on gas to generate electricity comes into force, but maintains that the forecast of the Executive is that it will fluctuate between 15 and 20%. Ribera corrects herself, since on numerous occasions she had maintained that the reduction in the price of electricity with the new mechanism would be 30%. Full article: https://spainsnews.com

Spanish Police & LaLiga Carry Out Nationwide Pirate IPTV Crackdown at Businesses & Homes: LaLiga’s premium content is widely pirated in both homes and commercial premises such as bars and restaurants. The investigation identified locations in more than a dozen regions across Spain including Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Gijón, Madrid, Vigo, Las Palmas, Bilbao and Barcelona. Coordinated inspections were carried out by police on a day when LaLiga Santander matches were being played, and 166 bars were identified as being involved in the fraudulent display of copyrighted content. The infringed content included matches from LaLiga Santandar and the prestigious UEFA Champions League.
-“As a result of [the operation], the entire infrastructure that allowed the illegal viewing of paid multimedia content was dismantled, with the identification of those responsible and the cessation of the illegal service they provided,” a statement from the National Police reads. During the operation police seized a large number of piracy-configured devices including Amazon Firesticks, generic Android boxes, and others from unnamed manufacturers.
-According to the authorities, the owners of the bars that used the devices to receive and display pirated live matches will be charged with offenses related to the fraudulent reception and distribution of copyrighted broadcasts accessed from encrypted sources. Flea infestation at the Interstellar Festival in Seville- “I thought I had the monkey virus”: {Translation, summary}
-Plague of fleas in the Interstellar festival that has been held over the past weekend in the Cartuja. Hundreds of attendees, mostly young people, who have attended the concerts of the sixth edition of the festival held in the meadow of the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art (CAAC) and attended by approximately 20,000 people between concerts throughout the weekend (Friday and Saturday), are affected by the bite of these nasty insects.
-And is that what in principle could be a weekend of fun has become a nightmare for many, affected by the bite of these fleas. “I thought I had the monkey virus and they were fleas,” said Pablo G., a 19-year-old boy who keeps complaining about the hundreds of bites on his arms, legs and practically all over his body, which are becoming very uncomfortable now that he is in the middle of studying for his university exams.
-Complaints about this plague have flooded social networks and some users have even created an Instagram account called Pulgasinteresetelar and subtitled “Official account of the fleas of Interstellar 2022. Thank you Sevilla for this fantastic weekend”. In that network, as in others like Twitter or Facebook, there are numerous comments, mostly in a jocular tone about what happened this weekend in the Cartuja. EU advises countries to plan vaccines for monkeypox outbreak:
In a report published today, the EU organisation said: ‘Countries should update their contact tracing mechanisms, their diagnostic capacity for orthopoxviruses and review the availability of smallpox vaccines, antivirals and personal protective equipment (PPE) for health professionals.’ It advises that government should review the types, doses and authorisation status of vaccines in case they need to be deployed.
-The report does not recommend mass vaccination programmes of people not at particular risk. It says that healthcare workers who may be exposed to the virus could be vaccinated as a precaution.
-At the moment, there is no specific approved vaccine, but the vaccine for smallpox is effective. If the current outbreaks continue to grow, states are likely to have to start rolling out jabs to try and get on top of the spread. For example, close contacts of those infected could be given the vaccine to give them protection.
-The UK has already recommended that close contacts of those with monkeypox could be given a Postexposure Prophylaxis (PEP) vaccine. This would be the Imvanex vaccine against smallpox, which contains a live modified form of the vaccinia virus called ‘vaccinia Ankara’, which is related to the smallpox virus.
-Initial symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills and exhaustion.
A rash can develop, often beginning on the face, then spreading to other parts of the body including the genitals. The rash changes and goes through different stages – it can look like chickenpox or syphilis, before finally forming a scab which later falls off. Most people recover in a few weeks even without treatment, but it can cause serious illness in some people. Young children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems are thought to be particularly affected.

A visa by any other name…: Travellers from 63 world countries, who are eligible to enter the Schengen Area visa-free, will have to apply for a travel authorization before their trip to any of the 26 Member Countries by May 2023, when the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is set to become fully effective. It is estimated that the new requirement will affect around 1.4 billion travellers from countries that have a visa-free travel regime with the EU.
-Travellers applying for an ETIAS will have to complete an online form with information regarding their identity, travel intention, and background security information, as well as upload a scanned copy of their passport and a digital biometric photo.
-Travellers will also have to pay a fee of €7 online. Yet, they will not have to go to an embassy, give fingerprints, or attend an interview. Once approved, an ETIAS authorization will be valid for an initial period of three years or up until the applicant’s passport expires, whichever comes first. The confirmation is sent to each applicant’s email, and then the same should be carried and presented to border officers, if required, either in digital form or printed when travelling to the Schengen Area.
