Just can’t believe how many people put things on Digamextra without at least the area they are in .  So many times I read an ad and get excited at the thought of owning a particular item or even applying for a job such as maintenance or gardening just to find NO area mentioned . I will not contact anyone on the off chance they are in my area .   Sorry for the rant .   Martin in Colmenar.

What’s on 5th year Walking Festival Cómpeta/4 días de senderismo Cómpeta: 21/22/23/24 September 2017

Cómpeta, 65 km east of Málaga, is a walkers’ paradise! Come and enjoy it with us during our fifth Walking Festival. Also this year we chose several new fantastic walks. The principle will stay the same. Each day you will have the choice between an easy walk of  ± 3 – 4 hours or a moderate walk of ± 4,5 – 6 hours. Each day you can change your choice. We will walk with guides in groups of no more than 25 persons. You may also walk self-guided if you have a gps.
The Cómpeta Walking Festival is the occasion to discover more of this beautiful walking area and to meet old and new walking friends.   Programme 2017: Thursday 21 September
Easy walk ± 3 hours
Start hotel Balcón de Cómpeta 10 am, walk via footpath along the irrigation channel to Canillas de Albaida – Loma de Canillas – Mosquín – Cruz del Monte – Cómpeta.

At ASAP we do exactly what our name says – we save local dogs from suffering as soon as possible. We started very small with just a couple of concerned people. We are still small but we now have more active volunteers . Whenever possible, we want to provide a permanent home for all our rescued animals. And we have done so very successfully over the past few years. As well as teaching greater tolerance and understanding of dogs we also encourage people to foster them. Re-homing is an important part of the project, the more dogs we can rehome, the fewer strays there will be on the streets. The dogs themselves are the project’s best ambassadors. They reward their new owners with loyalty and affection, bringing comfort and joy into their lives.  Sterre is one such dog. Sterre’s mother was a Mastin and her father, probably, a Podenco. She was found on the streets at 5-weeks of age with her mother, brother and two sisters and was taken in to foster care immediately. Sterres mother and two sisters were rehomed quite quickly but shortly after Sterre and her brother fell seriously ill with the Pavo virus. Sterres brother died, but Sterre miraculously survived. She is our longest ever foster care dog, of almost 18-months . She is very attached emotionally to Els, her Foster Carer, and is resistant to anyone new.   She is now about to enter a socialisation programme in order to better her chances of adoption and a new life.So, this is a renewed appeal for donations and the promise of a fresh start for this lovely girl, who deserves so much more. Wire haired German Pointer Looking for a home

TAIL Torrox is looking for a home for this beautiful boy Amadeus. He is 6 yrs old wired haired German pointer (Bosque de Bohemia ), weighs about 28kg and is 62cm high. He is a very gentle boy who has very low level Leishmaniosis so needs a daily tablet. He walks very well on the lead and currently is a house dog at the refuge in Torrox Costa. Claiming compensation for flights delayed more than 3 hours.

You will find information from CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) web site on how to claim reimbursement (or compensation for your flight delays, which are more than 3 hours delayed) under European Regulation 261.
The CAA prefers you to contact the airline first, if you do not receive your compensation entitlement, then you can contact CAA. who will require your name and contact details, date of travel, flight number, and they will have all of the information regarding the flight delay.
The CAA will contact the Airline on your behalf, (at no cost to you) they do not require your bank details.
The Airline will contact you in due course for your bank details etc. and the amount will be paid into your bank account.
Under European Regulations 261 you  can make a claim for flight delays during the past seven years.

Antequera a magnificent town that has the most churches in Spain …27… Overlooked by the famous Indian head mountain, where legend has it that a Moorish princess fell in love with a Christian soldier and they were forbidden to marry, so ran away together to the mountain, they were chased by her father’s army and so rather than be separated, they jumped to their death. Locals say some nights you can hear their cries. Then there is El Torcal, the highest point in the area, strange rock formations which were formed millions of years ago when it was under water, cover the land, a sight to behold.    In the other direction you will find Caminito Del Rey in El Chorro, a major tourist attraction, dare you do the walk!!!! Also close by are the fantastic turquoise lakes of Ardales, where you can just sit and watch the world go by, or swim in the cool clear waters. Hire pedallos or eat in the many restaurants of the area.   2 nights, is it enough ? Maybe book an extra night of the special price of 50€ per room. UK registration of Vehicles in Spain

There has been much written on the subject over recent days, all trying to be helpful and some relaying experiences and some opinions or internet links to provide ‘information’. However ‘the devil is in the detail’ in that whilst we are part of the EU we are not part of the Schengen Zone. This is why we have to go through passport control when leaving or entering the UK. The EU permits fellow EU countries that belong to Schengen 6 months stay before requiring Spanish registration, whilst for those outside the Schengen Zone (i.e. UK) only 90 days in any 180 are permitted. The Schengen Zone agreement has been tightened recently as a result of recent terrorism attacks.   Hope this clarifies the argument.    Chris

 

Needed-Mobile Phone Signal Booster- Response

Below is a response to a request made on Sunday 10th September re:Services       We too had a number of issues re: mobile phone reception.  We asked for assistance via Digamextra but unfortunately all of the responses received were of a temporary nature and did not suit our long-term needs. However, we remain grateful that people responded at all and thankful for having a temporary service as opposed to none at all.  I took some time to investigate the best possible, long-term solution for us and, thankfully, found one. I hope the information below helps. Before buying anything download a free signal booster app to your mobile.  I downloaded 3 apps just to check different services e.g. Network Signal Booster (RealAppsMaker)Once downloaded give the app(s) time to respond and find a signal.  Before downloading the app(s) I could detect no signal at all to an intermittent one bar.  With the app(s) I could get 2 steady bars.  I continued to monitor this over a couple of days just to make sure that the signal would remain and wasn’t weather-affected.

1. With a steady signal.  I could then investigate appropriate signal repeaters.
2. The repeater that would best suit our needs is below and from Amazon.es https://www.amazon.es/dp/B01B1CU75I/ref=pe_3310721_185740151_E_item    Cost: 6,96€     The item was based in Velez-Malaga and arrived to our post office at Torrox Pueblo within 24 hours. I would recommend this seller.  We attempted to purchase the repeater on 2 previous, separate occasions (ebay and Light in the Box – both cheaper) on both occasions they cancelled the order the day it was to be delivered.  They were ‘supposed’ to be coming from Germany and Netherlands but both were being dispatched from China – had I known I would not have ordered them.  N.B.: this repeater may not suit everyone.

5. One we unpacked the repeater and antennae we then had to find were the best signal would be located.
6. We plugged in the repeater and tied the antennae to a tall ladder and walked about the terrace till the signal was strong and consistent.
7. We then climbed the ladder and attached the antennae to the roof – a low roof – so quite east to do.  It could also have been fitted to the side of the house.

So upset over the brutal killing of those tiny kittens. Can anyone give some indication as to who did this as whoever is responsible needs to be punished. It’s Been a Long Week This time last week we were putting up shelves and moving stock.  With deliveries rolling in daily the new Sugar and Spice at Todo Papel is now bursting with yummy groceries. Phase 1 is complete but the project goes on as we continue to search out new tasty treats. Already we have a list of customer requests that we are hunting down. We have an additional 4 metres of shelving in the new set up, with the opportunity to expand it further if required so if there is something that you think we ought to have please let us know.
Already we have some great new food products. We have added chipotle chilli sauce to our Mexican range. For vegetarians and non vegetarians alike we have new chilled dips, black olive hummus and Tzatziki, and cashew and cranberry, and Mediterranean sundried tomato nut roast kits. We also sell Spanish products such as pil pil mix and smoked paprika and to this range we have added flavoured  olive oils and olive pates.
Sugar and Spice has often been referred to as “The English Shop”, hardly surprising as we stock all the British staples ,crumpets, scones, sausages and bacon.  But we have never marketed ourselves as an English shop  as our customers have always had very diverse tastes.   Asian foods have always proved to be very popular with our customers. In our Chinese range we have fish sauce, Hoi Sin sauce, vinegars and oils, all the soy sauces, dark light, gluten free and ketjap manis (sweet). We have Thai curry pastes including Panang, Massaman, red, green and yellow, Pad Thai as well as many other Asian cooking ingredients . We have every herb and spice required to knock up an Indian curry but if you’d rather  cut out the leg work we have a great range of Indian curry pastes and sauces and even frozen take away curries from the Taj Mahal at Torrox Costa.

Check if your mobile ‘phone has a “WiFi Calling” facility. Most modern mobiles will have it and decent carriers will support it,  eg my Samsung Galaxy 6 on Vodafone allows me to use it… But you may have to switch it on, your handbook or a helpline should guide you.   When in use “WiFi Calling” uses the internet to deliver your call – a bit like “WhatsApp” but not limited; good for all / most numbers.  Try Googling “WiFi Calling” for more technical and/or general information.Hopefully your mobile will have it. Flight delays and compensation

I read Nigel B’s post with great interest having tried to claim compensation from Monarch after a 18 hour delay. The flight attendants handed out all the necessary claim forms and told us we would receive compensation. Nothing happened. Not even an acknowledgement they had received the paperwork. After a year, I sent the whole caboodle in again. Nothing happened. As there is no phone number I am unable to pursue this by phone, and clearly, the email isn’t working. The Microsoft Win 10 Upgrade Advisor cannot be trusted! You MUST check the mfg website for correct info! -Protonmail.com free email users now have a free VPN available. Open Protonmail, go to Settings, then click VPN and proceed with installing it.-SPECIAL: Today’s new large hard drives are under much more stress than the older smaller ones since the tracking arm must do more work to cover the greater disk area. Extend the life of your hard drive by getting it reconditioned. Does not remove any data, recovers bad sectors and re-energizes the magnetic surface of the disk. Spanish Banks -Caution

Liz Bedford may like to know that two years ago when arriving at my holiday home in Competa I discovered my Spanish bank account had been frozen, and the only way to get it unfrozen was to provide the bank with proof of my income. This I did by arranging for copies of my pension statements to be emailed to the bank, thankfully before any of the standing orders were left unpaid.
So, if you have a Spanish bank account and don’t reside there, be aware that if you fail to supply proof of income by 31st August annually your bank account is liable to be frozen.

Go to the Viñuela Ecological Market in Conviven, a spectacular area with beautiful views to La Maroma or the Lake.

Every Saturday from 10am to 2pm we find seasonal fruits and vegetables, proximity and certified organic, eggs and bread, spices, tea and coffee,  organic products from “comercio justo”, extra virgin olive oil, Álora olives, natural soap, cheeses and wine and artisan beers, this week we will have some beer  from La Axarcä. Have a coffee or tea, freshly squeezed orange juice, toast and for only € 3 is it possible? Yes, at the Bar’s Bar !!!  The craft zone grows! Ethnic jewellery in silver and leather, Indian tablecloths, skirts and tunics, woolen cushions and patchwork pieces. Every second Saturday we received the visit of Humus Malaga! Where? In Conviven, an eco-cultural space, in Villas del Lago, 65, in La Viñuela, in front of the lake and very close to the Hotel La Viñuela. In the hills of southern Spain over five hundred years ago, a mix of cultures and religions created a lifestyle steeped in beauty, philosophy and the ancient sciences. This five-night photography holiday is based in the traditional pueblo blanco of Canillas de Albaida in the mountains of Andalucía, an area south of Granada where the Moors were finally forced to abandon the Iberian Peninsula.

Flight Delays & Compensation

I recently travelled from Gatwick to Malaga on an Easyjet late afternoon flight.

It was delayed by almost four hours. Not sure how many readers are aware, but depending on distance of the scheduled flight and length of time delayed, you are entitled by European law to compensation. I am to receive four hundred euros shortly. Any flight delays you have experienced under qualifying criteria can be back dated up to six years, so it might be worth checking back through your old flights! (the only time they can evade paying out is for bird strike, which is something totally out of their control). For info.

Do you pay your UK road tax by monthly Direct Debit? If your MOT renewal date is near the end of the month…. and it fails the MOT…. and you can’t get it fixed and re-MOT’d before the last day of the month…. DVLA know your vehicle has no MOT and they will not take the Direct Debit and your vehicle will then be not taxed. So when your vehicle gets its new MOT a few days into the next month, you must contact DVLA immediately to tax it from the beginning of the month and set up a new Direct Debit. If the vehicle is found parked on the public highway it will be clamped, there are companies employed by DVLA driving round with number plate recognition cameras and they are very keen. The minimum you will end up paying is £100 and that is mandatory (plus the road tax). DVLA will attempt to inform you, which is why you must always notify them of a change of address and contact details. The vehicle can also be impounded and the pound can be many miles away, there are several secure compounds dotted around the country. That will be £extra please. Of course if you’re not taxed, you’re not insured so if you was caught driving it by the police number plate recognition cameras, that will also be £extra! Plus driving licence points I expect.

Something you can do to help the situation is to have your MOT renewal date near the start of the month, which gives you plenty of time to get it fixed before the end of the month.

Also, remember that everything I’ve said above also applies even if you do the MOT a month early, as you are allowed to.

If the vehicle fails the MOT and you can’t get it fixed by the end of the month, DVLA know and will not take the monthly Direct Debit and you will not be taxed…. etcetera…. etcetera….etcetera. (King And I).

The source of this information is the DVLA website…. and a relative that had got the vehicle MOT’d 3 days into the following month due to a delay in repairs being carried out (by the garage that did the MOT and did not realise the implications) but had not notified DVLA of a recent change of address! The car was parked on the road and was found clamped and a big notice on the windscreen giving instructions on how to spend money! By the way, this notice was very difficult to remove. This was complained about and was told to use a razor blade, but carefully!

Warning

We all need to be very, very aware of thieves around the courtesy bus area.

I saw a short man shuffling about near our bus. I remember him well because he seemed to have a lot of clothes on for such a very, very hot night. Also I saw him gently scratch the driver’s window as he passed by. Didn’t think much of it at the time but now I believe he was signaling the bus driver. We were the only ones in the courtesy bus, and the bag certainly wasn’t there when we got back to the area where our car was.

Yesterday we went and reported it to the police and I gave them all these details. They very kindly allowed us to look at some CCTV where we could see that we had the bag with us as we walked into the courtesy bus area. The police were very helpful but we couldn’t watch the cCCTV around the waiting area because the cameras are up high and naturally there are loads of people and buses around.

It must have happened while we allowed the bus driver to put our suitcase in the bus and while Tom was getting in. Split second stuff! The shuffling man must have been in cahoots with bus driver who’s name was (name removed due to EU anti-defamation laws for blog sites, see submission rules at the bottom of this issue.), not that that helps much. The courtesy bus was (name removed due to EU anti-defamation laws for blog sites) which we have used several times and always been happy with their service.

I wonder whether we should denounce the bus driver?

Help Please- Missing Luggage

Was anybody at Malaga Airport on Friday 1st September about 10pm, maybe in the luggage hall or waiting for a courtesy bus outside?

We have lost a piece of hand luggage, black and green tartan with brown carrying straps, measuring approximately 40cms long, 20 cms wide, 30 cms high.

We have contacted the Lost and Found department who have been very helpful but it has not been handed in. I have an awful feeling that it may have been stolen while we were waiting for the courtesy bus outside, or perhaps stolen from the luggage hall. Amongst other things it contains 2 iPads, one of which has the ability to be found if it is switched on which hasn’t happened yet.

In reply to one of your readers, David Davis said on the BBC yesterday that an arrangement had been agreed on healthcare for UK pensioners in Europe.

This is an excerpt from the Guardian online.

“British pensioners who have retired to other EU countries will continue to have their healthcare paid for by the NHS post-Brexit, after a deal in principle was agreed by negotiators in Brussels. In one of the few advances made in discussions about EU citizens’ future rights, the Brexit secretary, David Davis, said there had been agreement on four key areas, including reciprocal healthcare for British and EU retirees affected by Brexit.

“This is good news for British pensioners in the EU,” he said.”
