Lost Puppy  

He is about 4/5 months old, black with a white cross shape on his chest and 4 white feet.

He is very nervous and was very thin, however since being fed and watered he looks a lot better, although will not let us stroke or get near to him.

We are staying at a villa In Trapiche until Friday 8th Sept and would love to reunite him with his family.

What’s on – Raw Food Workshop on Thursday 14th September

Join us for our first workshop after the summer break and learn how to prepare a variety of delicious raw food dishes with  guest chef, David Paris. As always at Casa Montes Negros, the dishes are based on seasonal local and local ingredients, organic where possible.

You will learn about the philosophy and practice of the Raw Food diet and how to prepare a three-course raw and vegan lunch.

What’s on – at El Valle

We are an expat group based near Vinuela.

We have our monthly meetings at the camping restaurant by lake Vinuela on the A356. We meet on the 1st Monday of the month at 7pm for 7-30pm and have various activities and speakers.

This Monday we have a local dance group called Let’s Dance who will be entertaining us and I have been to a few of the rehearsals and they are a very talented group.
If you have been thinking of joining El Valle then why don’t you come to our meeting on Monday as a guest and see for yourself what we are about.

Kitten Living Dangerously…..

This is Dora (the explorer) she is a beautiful little kitten who we are fostering, she’s friendly with, people, other cats and dogs. We have a problem, our apartment is on the ground floor right next to a main road and Dora has discovered that she can now get on to the terrace wall, it won’t be long before she is brave enough to jump down on to the street. We are worried about her because of the amount of traffic and the speed at which it passes our apartment. Missing Dog – Please Look out for Him

Please look out for this little white dog with a blue collar. His hair is a bit shorter than in the photo. He ran off after his lead broke around the poligono behind Torrox Costa. He has been seen a number of times there and around Amberes. If you see him or catch him ( he is pretty nervous) please call Sue 629591173 or Gill 633405560

What’s on- Car Boot/Market. Sunday 3rd September

We are now “back to normal” after the summer break.

The regular “1st Sunday of the month”  Car Boot sale/market is at El Pantano Restaurant car park, overlooking Lake Vinuela, on Sunday 3rd September. 9.30am to 1.pm. Easy to find on the A356 towards Colmenar. Drive over the bridge crossing Lake Vinuela and the car park/bar is just ahead on the right hand side. Plenty of parking.

There are always bargains galore……….. old and new. Lots of locally grown fresh fruit and veg. Homemade Mango + other chutney, jams and marmalades, plants, shrubs, flowers and herbs. Greetings cards. Always a good selection of DIY tools. (New) Ladies clothes. Large selection of paperback and hardback books. Lots of household and garden items for sale on many of the stalls. (New) DVD’s.

Come along and enjoy a morning browsing and picking up a few bargains at this well established monthly market, which attracts visitors from far and near.  Rolling Thunder…

Yesterday, Monday the 28th we had some very welcome rain. I also experienced for the very first time, rolling thunder…. I had heard of it but never actually heard it. In Vinuela, the faint thunder started some way from the west, Malaga area. Faint flashes of lightning could be seen in the thick billowing clouds, the thunder continued to get louder in a constant rolling effect, a flash and a great crack of sound as it passed overhead towards Zaffarraya.

All the cats disappeared except one that had obviously heard it all before and just wanted a belly tickle! Small birds were racing around the trees, making a lot of noise. I had noticed about a dozen big birds way up high, must have been at least 500ft above the area of Arkwrights shop, completely unperturbed, surfing the air currents, slowly this way and that.

I captured this on a iPhone, the sound and picture quality is not great but the general shape of the birds can bee seen, it’s about 2.5 minutes long. I’ll send it as an email attachment to anyone interested and can maybe identify these pajaros impresionantes,

Two days ago we arrived at Malaga an hour late, handicapped wife parked on runway outside empty airplane (no room on the handicap transfer bus), cheated by car-hire (as usual) and needed to get home. A simple call to Paul and he had one of his drivers meet us at the airport within 1/2 hour and took us all the way home, in El-campo (where taxi drivers usually refuse to go).

100% recommendation for Paul and his taxi / transfer service. They ARE the best.

Archery & Learning to Shoot ?

When I was a teenager I had the opportunity to do archery, but have not tried it in many years. I also have always wanted to learn to shoot, but my partner had VERY strong views on the subject!

They will be passing from Motril to Antequera on Thursday 31st August, passing along the coast of The Axarquia. The Local Police in Nerja are reporting that on that day the N-340 coast road will be closed in the municipality from 13.00 until approximately 15.00. The times in other municipalities may vary depending on where you are on the route. Your local Town Hall should be able to give you the details.

Sleepless in Axarquia ??

Does someone know what the Spanish law says about the night rest?

I don’t know but I guess and hope that, also here, the sleep and night rest is protected by the law. I learned that the authorization for fiesta, feria and so on is given by the Town Hall. Are they allowed to issue authorizations for “parties” that last till 5 o’clock in the morning? OR!! At what time can I call the Guardia Civil, so that these authorities stop the circus?

Lost Cat ? Sad News

Has anyone  lost a large black and grey cat?   Sadly, we found one dead in our garden on Saturday.  We reckon it had  been dead for at least 48 hours possibly a road traffic victim.  We have tried to find out locally if anyone knows about it but nobody seems to recognize the description. It was obviously well cared for and not a “Moggie” so if you have lost a cat with that unusual colouring, it is sadly no more.  Very sad.

Number plate registration

Further to the number plate problem, we’ve noticed that so far, the problem seems to concern foreigners who have become Spanish residents.

We became official French residents several years ago, have a left-hand drive car with French plates, but now as retirees, spend half our time driving back and forth between France and Spain. As somebody pointed out the other day, it would seem stupid to get Spanish plates whereas, as we don’t live here all year round.

Does anybody know what the Spanish law says about non-residents?

Music in Other spaces, is an original concept that offers concerts in private outdoor spaces that are Not usually open to the public.

We open new doors for you to discover Nerja under the stars.

Our musical selection for these evenings is, Jazz and Classical Music. Artists: Brown Sugar Quartet, August 30 at 9:30 p.m. at Hostal Mena, Calle Barrio nº 15 and the Quartet Con Fuoco, September 5 at 9:30 p.m. at Hotel Paraíso del Mar, Calle Prolongación de Hernando Carabeo No. 22.

Brown Sugar is the most Jazzistic project of the Dutch singer Manuela Nelom, in which it combines the Jazz with the Blues and nuances of Soul.

Quartet con Fuoco (Classical Music)

The Quartet is comprised of musicians from the Philharmonic Orchestra of Malaga. In the first part of their program they will interpret Quartet No. 1, in E minor, “De mi vida” by Bedřich Smetana, one of his most heartfelt and original scores, written in 1876. This is a semi-biographical work that sketches moments of his life. We’d like to highlight the viola solo at the beginning of the first movement of the “Allegro vivo appassionato”.

In the second part they will interpret the String Quartet nº 1, in G minor, op. 27 by Edvard Grieg. A work of undeniable beauty. Its premiere took place in Cologne between 1877/1878.
