Further Report about the Uncontrolled Dogs in the Naturañ Park

This morning, I was walking in the nature park. Coming down from Cerro Gavilán towards Puerto Collado, I first met a man alone. Then came 2 light brown dogs, small retriever type and a smaller darker dog, all 3 running loose.

Next was a woman with 3 husky type dogs on leash. As I continued down the zigzag road: suddenly 2 female Ibex came rushing down the slope, chased by one of the retrievers!!!

I do not know who is the owner of that dog, but please all dog owners, take care! You should have your dog under full control (on a leash) in the nature park for the sake of the wildlife, for the protection of which the park was founded!

You may meet wild animals even where you do not expect to. I have seen Ibex near Puerto Collado on several occasions. I’ve even spotted an Egyptian mongoose there!

Only a few weeks ago, a young Ibex (about 1 week old!) was wounded and lost its mother due to irresponsible dog owners, who let their dog run loose in the nature park!

PS: About Wednesday’s incident: Lieuwke, the owners of these dogs should be denounced. They should not run loose, obviously being a danger to other dogs as well as wildlife.

PPS: By the way, it is not a national park, only natural. The rules for national parks are more severe. There are only 2 in Andalucia: Doñana and Sierra Nevada – but fortunately many nice nature parks!

Warning if Walking Your Dog in Competa-Acebuchal

Hi dog-lovers,

Just a warning, unfortunately my dog – Djune- was bitten in National Park near Competa last Wednesday evening.

Haven’t seen it myself, but most probably it were one of the 2 dogs of (name removed due to Internet Defamation Laws).

they are living near Fabrica de la Luz (Competa-Accebuchal)

2 big dogs, blond/ brown fur, (not sure what breed they are) they are mostly walking freely in the park,

and laying often near the Fabrica de la Luz recreation area.

So please take care with your dogs in that area.

The dogs are not that cute and tranquil as they look like.

I am a Belgian woman living in Torrox Park since October 2015,together with my husband.

My native language is Dutch.

Furthermore I speak French: Full professional proficiency, English: professional working proficiency, German: professional working proficiency, Spanish: limited working proficiency.

Since we arrived here, I studied Spanish in the “Academia de Idiomas Torrox” in Torrox Pueblo and since September 2016 with professor Miguel Angel, who teaches Spanish intermediate level,  behind Lew’s bar at Torrox Costa. These courses are organised for free, by el Ayuntamiento de Torrox. I have a new inscription for Spanish lessons there from September on, and will be in the European language level : B1.

I have a university degree “Master in the law” and a teaching degree in the law and languages. I worked 30 years as a jurist, as a human resources manager for 2 years,  and two years as a teacher, teaching  Dutch to French speaking children from the ages of 4- 10, in 6 different schools, 18 classes ,more than 200 children.  Normally I can teach  in high schools and to adults with my teaching degree. I did so in my period of practical training in 2013.

Now I am able to express my self to the Spanish people, which I think is essential living in Spain, I would like to work with a contract -Part time is fine by me, seasonal work is OK.

I was thinking about working in the tourist sector, for instance  being a tour guide on a bus, or working in a travel agency, as I speak more than one language, or making spoken/written translations.  Other suggestions are welcome.

We had a meal at Thai- pas in Torrox last night and ordered from the new menu. When the dishes came they were delicious but far too spicy for me.

As I was unable to eat the meal it was replaced with a choice from the normal menu at no cost.

These pups and mum are living out in the campo close to Periana and need  foster homes or to be adopted. Soon mum will stop feeding them as they are about 6 weeks old.  As AAR are inundated at the moment I need to get this info out to as many people as poss, so if you can help that would be great.

The phones are old and although work, could not be exchanged for money (don’t want to anyway).

Some of the cables have 3 and 2 pin plugs attached and are for phone or camera chargers, some are for video, TV or computers.

Services Available- Dropping Off at the Airport

Drive into the airport like you were to drop off as before. The only difference is there is now a fence so no entry allowed in for the cars (I think taxis can still drive in there), and there are ticket stations for the Express Drop-off car park.

The first 15 minutes are free. I went over, as I walked my mother in and helped her to the area to get a wheelchair as she cannot walk too far.

Now I have to say dropping someone off is easy, as my husband dropped me off once and I forgot my purse in the car (passport, cell phone and all), I guess it was too easy… But once you walk inside take the moving walkways to the path that leads into the building and go up a flight on the escalator and you are inside the baggage check, and like coming in the front doors, just a bit more walking. Now I had asked myself while walking in what about people who cannot walk that far. Well I answered my own question as I walked back out to my car. At the entrance to the moving walkways there is a kiosk (gray and yellow) with a call button for assistance, wheelchairs, etc.

And, I did overstay the Free 15 minutes, and had to pay 3,25 euros!!!  I was there only 28 minutes total. The rates are different from the pick-up rates.

From minute 31: €0.099766 per minute.

What’s on– Personal Reccomendation of Movie- The Promise

I just saw and often shed tears through one of the best films I have seen in my adult life, a captivating, action packed love story (love triangle) during WWI showcasing the Armenian genocide at hands of Turks in 1915 , The Promise, showing at El Ingenio in Torre.

The story behind release of movie, the continuing battle for historical truth, is also worth researching before you see the movie. Not necessary. I did my research after.

Key role is played by Christian Bale, a courageous AP reporter, who exposes the genocide from in side Turkey up close and personal, and nearly pays for the truth with his life.

This $90 million production that grossed only $8.4 million at the box office, was almost 100’% financed by a USA Armenian multi-millionaire. It is a joint Spain-USA production. (A handful of  USA journalists, reputedly including Bale’s real life persona, along with 2,500 Americans who fought with the Republicans in Spain from 1936  – 39  are buried in this country  in unmarked or mass graves, save one.)

Turkey fought hard in the USA and worldwide to kill the release of this magnificent and thoroughly well acted and gripping war drama and love story. Bring tissues for tears. (I could hear others crying, sniffling during the movie….it’s that good!)

To the credit of Madrid politicians, there is a huge black on white banner hanging on the Madrid Town Hall that reads:  “REFUGEES WELCOME.”

Compassion is in short supply. Stock up with inspiration from this deeply moving swath of visual history reminding us that humans seem to have mastered inhumanity. The Promise speaks to all of us, each of us very personally.

I have seen a few people asking for this information and I have just been to the airport for a pick-up and drop-off, so this information is current.

Picking Up

There is a new parking lot next to the train station. This is called Arrivals First Class Parking Lot on the airport website.

Drive in like you are going to rental car return, but before making the turn, on the right is the train station, it is hard to get to across the white lines blocked out for the taxis, but go ahead. When I went there on two occasions in the past few weeks there were only 2 or 3 other cars parked in the lot, so I do not believe it has been advertised much. And, the sign is a bit misleading, in Spanish even harder… The sign I saw said something referencing only authorized cars, but go ahead and pull in and get a ticket at the gate. There is an exit at the other end on the left. The opening in the fence to the walkway is on the right and go around to the crosswalk under the bridge, but I cut across the driveway and walked out past the exit gate as I did not see the opening in the fence on the right. Take your ticket with you, and on return go the machines first and pay your fees, return to your car and exit. I was there about 45 minutes and paid 3,45 euros. Driving out is a bit confusing but follow the signs, exiting the driveway of the car park go right (you cannot turn left), go through the roundabout like you are going straight, there is a small sign to go right over a small bridge then you are on your way to exiting the airport.

On Wednesday 14th June, I am running another Figure Drawing workshop at the Viveros de Algarobo near Vinuela.
After the success of the previous session a few weeks ago, we now have another date. Once again, this is a great opportunity for any visual artist to brush up on their sketching skills or simply have a go at drawing a life model.

No previous experience is necessary, you can bring along any medium you wish but I would suggest paper as large as you can manage (on a board) and soft pencils and charcoal.

My friends and I have a great time at Que Pasa! The staff are friendly and cheerful. The chicken and bean burgers are delicious and the salads are something special with an added twist. And after all that sumptuous healthy eating we can’t resist indulging in one of Angie’s special Chocolate Brownie Sundaes! If you visit their Facebook page you’ll be able to see lots of pics of the delicious food and they even have a happy hour that lasts for 2 hours!! Can’t be bad . . . and with an amazing view, a hammock, a sofa . . . we find it’s the perfect place to chill out. Enjoy!

Help Needed Urgently

Hi. A couple of weeks ago I posted about two abandoned fellas I have with me. One is a labrador/German shepherd cross about a year or so old. He’s a beautiful calm and friendly soul who likes to take himself of for a walk and get lots of cuddles.

The other is a 2-3 month pointer. He’s very sweet but still very puppy like.

I would love to keep them but simply can’t as I am moving away for work purposes.

Please can anyone give them a home or a foster home or does anyone know how to contact the rescue centre.

I have to go this week and I don’t want to turn them out as they deserve better.

Information re Broken Sewage Pipe

Repairs to the broken sewage pipe off Chucho and Playazo beaches, which has been leaking since March, was reported on Monday by Nerja Town Hall to have been completed.  A length of 100 metres has been replaced at a cost of €100,000.

Everybody can practise my Yoga whatever age or physical condition. The adaption of the Yoga postures to every single student is very important for me as we all have different bodies. I mix Ayur Yoga, therapeutic Yoga, Yin Yoga & Vinyasa Flow Yoga – the basic you will find in Hatha Yoga. Every class can be different as i always work in needs of my students. Services Available – Cheap landline calls

The article posted by Dr Laptop confirms our experience.

We used to have our line rental with telefonica/movistar and our

ADSL and an all inclusive calls package with another supplier, Europa Networks.

They sent us an email saying that they would no longer be allowed to provide us with cheap calls and, to solve the problem, they could take over our line rental.

Actually we were in the process of moving to telefonica for everything, to get fibre optic ADSL, so we didn’t go ahead but they confirmed that you can only get a cheap calls package from the company that supplies your land line.
