Spain’s Government plans to limit school class attendance and enforce social distancing: Spain’s Government is planning to limit class sizes to 15 students from the next academic year (2020/21), and is proposing a mixture of part online & part assisted classes until a Covid-19 vaccine is found. Stranglers keyboard player Dave Greenfield dies: The Stranglers’ keyboard player Dave Greenfield has died at the age of 71 after testing positive for coronavirus. Greenfield, originally from Brighton, died on the evening of 3 May. He contracted the virus following a prolonged stay in hospital for heart problems.

Nerja Town Hall confirms low Covid-19 incidence: The regional government’s Health and Family department has reported seven Covid-19 cases in Nerja. Official figures reveal the pandemic’s uneven impact on the province, as the large coastal towns account for two-thirds of infections and more than half of these are in Malaga City.
In the eastern Costa del Sol, cases are concentrated in the two largest towns, with 107 in Velez-Malaga and 113 in Rincon de la Victoria.

Endesa 15% discount: Gerry and I have been looking at the problem of the 15% Discount option not appearing to some customers. The Endessa Discount Offer Expired April 30th: The company Endesa launched a campaign in which all users can deduct 15 percent of the invoice of the residence in which they are spending the confinement, that is, it cannot be applied to all the properties of which it is owner the same client. Specifically, the offer is intended for free market customers who have contracted electricity and gas with Endesa Energía.
It is a temporary promotion, which will be valid until April 30 , and which offers a 15% discount on the consumption of electricity and gas on bills from April and May for a single home (one home per customer). In addition, the offer is personalized, it only applies to customers who receive it, since they meet the following requirements: domestic customers who have contracted 10 kilowatts or less of power, have a seniority of more than 18 months and at least two contracts with Endesa (electricity and gas) and customers who have received an email informing them. There have been 14.287 positive tests in Andalucia, up 92 on day before. Phase 1 Set To Start May 11th, Updated Info: Sources from the Spanish Health Ministry on Saturday provided more details about the deescalation of coronavirus confinement measures, explaining that during Phase 1, which will begin on May 11 in provinces that meet the set requirements, up to 10 people will be able to meet either in the open air or in their homes, provided that they maintain an interpersonal distance of two meters. They will also be required to respect hygiene measures such as handwashing.
-The use of cars during Phase 1 will also be subject to regulations. Vehicles will be permitted to be occupied by up to nine people, provided that they all live in the same home. If the occupants of a vehicle do not live together, a limit of one person in each row of seats will apply, and they will have to wear masks.
-On public transport, passengers will have to try to observe the maximum interpersonal distance possible, and leave the row of seats behind the driver empty on buses.
-During Phase 0 of the deescalation, which will begin on Monday, minor construction projects will be permitted, including the refurbishment of housing and commercial premises. Such work will have to be carried out in conditions that guarantee the safety of workers and residents, and they will not be permitted if there are people living in the said properties. Laborers will not be permitted to use the common areas of the building where the work is taking place.
-Retail outlets of up to 400 square meters in size will have to offer timetables for the over-65s. These will coincide with the set time for walks for seniors, which from today run from 10am to 12pm, and 7pm to 8pm.
-Purchases (not including food and other essential items) will have to be made within each person’s municipality, although in smaller areas where a certain item is not available, trips to nearby areas will be permitted.
-Establishments will also have to be cleaned twice a day, all uniforms will have to be washed after their use, bathrooms cannot be used unless it is essential, and fitting rooms will have to be cleaned after each use. Daily coronavirus fatalities in Spain fall to 163, the lowest figure seen since March 18: Not since March 18, four days after the state of alarm was implemented by the central government, has that figure been so low.
The number should, however, be viewed with some caution given that since the crisis began there has been underreporting of the data at weekends and also when there are holidays. May 1 was a holiday in all of Spain, as was May 2 in the Madrid region.
That said, there is a clear downward trend in the epidemic, with 276 fatalities reported on Saturday, and nine regions registering no new admissions of coronavirus patients to their ICUs. Spanish economy falls 5.2% in first quarter, the biggest drop in nearly a century: Spain’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell 5.2% in the first quarter of 2020 as a result of coronavirus confinement measures, according to an advance report released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on Thursday. This is the largest quarterly drop in nearly a century. The last time such a figure was seen was after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), based on the estimates of specialist historians.
The figures from the second quarter are expected to be even worse. The outcome for the year will depend on the deescalation of the confinement measures, which have been in place since the Spanish government declared a state of alarm on March 14 in a bid to slow the coronavirus outbreak. According to the government’s plan, which was announced on Tuesday, businesses will be able to gradually reopen under strict conditions. But there is still great uncertainty, and the Bank of Spain estimated in April that Spain’s GDP could fall by anywhere between 6.6% and 13.6% this year. FORBES Exclusive- Warning Over Chinese Mobile Giants Xiaomi and Huawei Recording Millions Of People’s ‘Private’ Web And Phone Use: So far, the US and Australia have banned Huawei from providing equipment for their 5G networks, while Canada’s relationship with the firm is under review. There is also concern among European telecoms network operators, with some considering removing Huawei’s equipment. BT, for example, has removed Huawei equipment from key parts of its 4G network.
Gabi Cirlig, a seasoned Cyber Security analyst said “It’s a backdoor with phone functionality,” He was talking about his new Xiaomi phone…
Cirlig discovered that his Redmi Note 8 smartphone was watching much of what he was doing on the phone. That data was then being sent to remote servers hosted by another Chinese tech giant, Alibaba, which were ostensibly rented by Xiaomi.
The seasoned cybersecurity geek found a worrying amount of his behaviour was being tracked, whilst various kinds of device data were also being harvested, leaving Cirlig spooked that his identity and his private life was being exposed to the Chinese company.
When he looked around the Web on the device’s default Xiaomi browser, it recorded all the websites he visited, including search engine queries whether with Google or the privacy-focused DuckDuckGo, and every item viewed on a news feed feature of the Xiaomi software. That tracking appeared to be happening even if he used the supposedly private ‘incognito’ mode. The device was also recording what folders he opened and to which screens he swiped, including the status bar and the settings page. All of the data was being packaged up and sent to remote servers in Singapore and Russia, though the Web domains they hosted were registered in Beijing. Though the Chinese company claimed the data was being encrypted when transferred in an attempt to protect user privacy, Cirlig found he was able to quickly see just what was being taken from his device by decoding a chunk of information that was hidden with a form of easily crackable encoding, known as base64. It took Cirlig just a few seconds to change the garbled data into readable chunks of information. Bangladesh ferries Rohingya boat people to remote island: The island, also known as Thengar Char, emerged from the sea about a decade ago. It covers an area of about 40 square kilometers or 16 square miles. It is accessible through motorboats only and is usually hit by monsoon floods.
Bangladesh authorities on Apr.16 rescued 396 Rohingyas who were trying to enter the country in a boat from the southern coast, after 58 days at sea.
Bangladesh said it would not accept any more Rohingyas as its priority was now to protect the refugee camp area from the spread of coronavirus.

What Businesses May Resume From Today: The hairdressers may open Monday, as well as physiotherapy, dental, hardware, haberdashery or florist services whose premises do not exceed 400 square meters of surface.

El Corte Inglés enters the delivery of food prepared to homes by Deliveroo: El Corte Inglés will promote the home delivery of dishes prepared through Deliveroo after implementing a meticulous security plan to avoid any risk in relation to Covid-19, as reported by the distribution group on Sunday.
The initiative starts in Madrid, Vigo, Coruña, Barcelona, Malaga and Marbella, which will be followed by other cities “in the coming weeks” as the security protocols developed by the company are implemented.
Its implementation includes a series of additional measures both in the process of preparing the dishes and in shipping to the customer’s home, such as the use of sealed containers with a new system of control and bagging with “witness” label to avoid manipulation by third parties. The delivery of the order will be made under the formula of contactless deliveries, which implies that the delivery person is never in contact with either the product or the customer to guarantee security throughout the chain.
In addition, the action protocol includes the figure of a coordinator who supervises and ensures all the phases of the process, including the use of masks, gloves and other kinds of tools that avoid any type of manual handling of food; to which will be added a reinforcement of the cleaning and sanitation measures.
Thus customers will be able to choose from more than 40 dishes prepared by the chefs of The English Court following traditional recipes that, according to El Corte Inglés, are made “with the best raw materials” -fowl eggs, croquettes prepared with fresh milk, chicken fingers of national origin fed with cereals, fish from Spanish markets or meat from suppliers that have animal welfare seals.
Customers can request menus both for themselves or for family members who cannot cook since the Deliveroo app allows the order to be sent to other addresses. Prices range from 3 to 15 euros and orders can be requested from 12:00 to 19:30 from Monday to Saturday, and until 18:30 on Sundays (always depending on local opening hours) , with a reduced delivery time that will range between 15 and 30 minutes. There have been a13.946 positive tests in Andalucia, up 258 on day before. Within this number at least 1.785 people had tested positive to Coronavirus antibodies but did not have any symptoms at the time of the test. Ministry of Sanidad in Madrid only states there are 12.161 confirmed cases in Andalucia, and on 26-04-2020 stopped publishing the data to calculate the higher figure. However the Junta de Andalucia Salud still publishes its figure a few hours later
There have been 1.1238 deaths in Andalucia, 31 more than the day before. We have stopped reporting cured cases as it turns out ‘curados’ meant ‘discharged from hospital’ in both Ministerio de Sanidad and Junta de Andalucia Salud statistics and not cured. Confirmed cases that required hospital admission in Andalucia are 5.936, 62 new admissions in the day. Confirmed cases that required hospital intensive care in Andalucia number 729, 8 new admissions in the day.

Here are the highlights.
-Thursday afternoon, Health Minister Salvador Illa said that starting at 6am on Saturday, adults may go out for individual exercise once a day, without making contact with third parties, and within their own municipality with no distance limit. All sports are allowed as long as they are practiced individually. But a Health Ministry order notes people may not use a motor vehicle or public transportation to travel to the spot where they want to exercise.
-People with symptoms of the coronavirus, those in quarantine, and residents of senior residences are not allowed out on public streets and spaces.
-Adults may go out on walks, either alone or with one other member of their household, as long as they remain within a one-kilometer radius of their home.
-Both walks and other exercises, such as running and cycling, must take place between 6am and 10am, or between 8pm and 11pm.
-As for outings with children, which have been allowed since Sunday of last week, these will now have to take place between 12pm and 7pm. The new rules will not allow for both parents to talk walks with their children.
-People who need to go out with a caregiver and seniors over 70 years of age have their own time slots of 10am to 12pm and 7pm to 8pm.
-Asked about the time limits for the new adult outings, the health minister only replied that an upcoming list of guidelines will clear up this issue and any others that might arise. The walks with children are still restricted to one hour a day, but Illa did not establish a clear time limit for adult activities despite queries from reporters. It was later confirmed that sporting activities such as running and cycling would not have the one-kilometer limit, but could not exceed the limits of each citizen’s municipality.
-Fernando Simón the director of the Health Ministry’s Coordination Center for Health Alerts, said that it is compatible for parents to go out to exercise in the morning and later go for a walk in the afternoon with their children.
-With regard to dogs, the Health Ministry on Friday confirmed to the Spanish radio station Cadena SER that adults will be allowed to walk their pets in the allocated time slot for exercise, and to also take them with them when they go running. Dog walking will also be permitted when children are taking their trips out onto the street.
-People will be allowed to tend their plants in allotment and community gardens on a non-professional basis. This must be done individually, unless the person in question is accompanied by a dependant or a child.

Proposed Rules for the Next Phases: Today starts Phase 0, as detailed above. What IS PLANNED (not yet confirmed) to come next?
-Phase One – from 10 May
Phase One will allow the ‘initial reopening’ of small businesses, with ‘security measures’ and social distancing in place.
Restaurant terraces could be allowed to open at 30% capacity.
Hotels could also be allowed to reopen at 30% capacity, except for communal areas that will remain closed.
There will be preferential time slots given to elderly people across Spain for the use of such establishments.
Some libraries will be allowed to reopen, with areas of reduced space and capacity. Selected museums could also reopen – again with reduced capacity and visits organised by appointment only.
During Phase One, it is planned that places of worship will also be allowed to reopen at 30% capacity.
Professional sports leagues could also allow teams to commence ‘medium training’.
Cultural acts could be permitted in certain regions, in closed venues with a maximum capacity of 30 people during this Phase One. Cultural acts could also be permitted in outside venues for up to 200 people – yet only if seated and with social distancing measures in place.
Rural tourism (possibly forest walks and trekking) could also be permitted during this period, depending on the region, yet only with organised and limited groups.
The reactivation of film and TV productions could also take place during this phase, subject to security and health measures being applied.
From 10 May during Phase One – and always depending on the progress against the pandemic in each area across Spain – journeys to second residences could also be allowed providing that they are in the same province. If they are in a different province, trips will not be allowed until towards the end of June.
During Phase One, citizens will also be allowed to meet with friends or family in their homes in the same province, but precise details of how many people can meet and under what conditions will be announced at a later date.

How and When Can I Travel by Car? The Rules For Travelling by Car After May 4 in Spain:

As relief measures from quarantine begin to be introduced, Spain is hoping to de-escalate into a new normality, and the first measures which have been announced by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, have clarified some questions regarding the use of private vehicles, but in other points this is not as clear.
Phase 0: From May 4 to 11
In this phase individuals can take the car by themselves for essential activities as they have before, and in addition they may now go to a restaurant in order to collect food, which was previously not allowed, and they may go to commercial premises if they have an appointment and the business has been allowed to reopen. Travelling in a private vehicle must be done individually unless there is an exceptional case or justifiable reason which otherwise supports this.

U.S. emergency approval broadens use of Gilead’s COVID-19 drug remdesivir: Data released this week from a trial by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States showed that remdesivir reduced hospitalization stays by 31% compared to a placebo treatment, but did not significantly improve survival. The FDA authorization only applies to patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 who require oxygen supplementation. Remdesivir was previously available only for patients enrolled in clinical trials or for patients cleared to get the drug under expanded use and compassionate use programs. Through Gilead’s trials, more than 181 hospital locations around the world, including hospitals in 27 U.S. states, have been administering the drug.
A draft study abstract released inadvertently by the World Health Organization (WHO) last week said remdesivir failed to improve patients’ condition or reduce the pathogen’s presence in the bloodstream. This is what going to the cinema will be like during the “new normal”: The state federation of cinemas has prepared an action protocol to adapt the rooms to the reopening conditions -in the phase 2 of de-escalation, announced this Tuesday by the Spanish government.
Informative posters (in rooms and websites) will be placed indicating the sanitary measures to be followed and the physical distance to be respected. In this sense, the establishments will place distance indicators on the ground, film passes will be spaced and access times will be staggered. In addition, hydroalcoholic gel dispensers will be distributed and the cleaning frequency will be increased.
As for the capacity control, the physical distance will be urged and ensured at all times and the public restriction will be established according to the capacity of each room to meet the third of the total required. Expats from Costa del Sol to Costa Blanca delighted with easyJet’s response to Covid-19 refund policy while Ryanair customers voice their discontent: Expats in Spain and British holidaymakers have been delighted with easyJet’s response, despite the difficult financial situation that all airlines are facing right now as a result of being grounded due to the Covid-19 crisis. However, many of Ryanair’s customers are not impressed with the change to its latest refund policy. Even consumer rights company Which? accused the airline of “trying to pressure people into taking vouchers instead of refunds.”
Ryanair customers have hit out at emails from the airline, encouraging them to take a voucher for the original value of their trip instead of a refund, which is valid for 12 months of future travel plans. If the voucher is not used before the expiry date, customers can apply for a refund, the company said. So, potentially customers face a wait of up to 12 months for a refund, and many are disappointed with Ryanair’s changed refund policy. Spain allocates time slots for outdoor activity: Health Minister Salvador Illa explains the conditions under which adults may go out for walks and exercise starting this weekend.
Starting on Saturday, adults may go out for individual exercise once a day, without making contact with third parties, and within their own municipality of residence. All kinds of sports are allowed as long as they are practiced individually.
Adults may also go out on one-hour walks, either alone or with one other member of their household, as long as they remain within a one-kilometer radius of their home
Both of these activities must take place between 6am and 10 am, or between 8pm and 11pm.
As for outings with children, which have been allowed since Sunday of last week, these will now have to take place between 12 noon and 7pm.
People who need to go out with a caregiver and seniors over 70 years of age have their own time slots of 10 am to noon and 7pm to 8pm.
In municipalities with fewer than 5,000 residents, these time frames will not apply, and all activities may be conducted between 6am and 11pm, as “there is no risk of crowding,” said Illa. Euskadi calls for the end of the state of alarm and the return of powers: The Basque Government spokesman has criticized the Sánchez Executive for choosing the “most centralized” option to manage the state of alarm when he could have chosen a more “respectful” formula with the autonomous communities. “That option was ignored and the sole command was chosen,” he lamented.

SCAM ALERT– Social Security Payments: An email with the appearance of Social Security reaches the mailbox. In the message the recipient is informed that he is the beneficiary of a “refund”. “Our invoice management system detects that you have the right to receive this payment,” the body reads, “to accept fast payments online, click on the following link and save the refund information”. In addition, there is a short deadline for collection, since the link expires.
But it’s just another scam that has reached the mail of thousands of people and has run like wildfire in social networks and groups of WhatsApp. With this data, criminals can take control of the bank accounts. The authorities have already stepped out, warning that “Social Security will not ask you for your personal data or bank details by email. This type of email is FALSE, don’t fall for it ”. Sánchez’s coalition government, which is made up of the Socialist Party (PSOE) and left-wing party Unidas Podemos currently relies on the support of the opposition parties in order to pass legislation. Drug proves effective against virus: Scientists on Wednesday announced the first effective treatment against the coronavirus, an experimental drug that can speed the recovery of COVID-19 patients, in a major medical advance. The U.S. government said it is working to make the antiviral medication remdesivir available to patients as quickly as possible.
“What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious-disease expert. “This will be the standard of care.”
California-based biotech company Gilead Sciences and the U.S. government reported that in a major study, remdesivir shortened the time it takes for COVID-19 patients to recover by four days on average — from 15 days to 11. Also, a trend toward fewer deaths was seen among those on the drug, Fauci said.

Stimulating Thought- how a stimulus package works:

A tourist drives into town, stops at a motel and lays a $100 note on the desk, saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs before picking one for the night.
As soon as the tourist walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his feed supplier at the co-op.
The guy at the co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local hooker, who is dealing with the same economy as everyone else and has been offering her services on credit.
The hooker rushes to the motel and pays off her room bill.
The motel owner then places the $100 back on the counter and waits for the tourist to come back from checking out the rooms.
Just then, the tourist comes down the stairs, says the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 note and leaves.
No one produced anything. No one earned anything.
However, the whole town is now out of debt and can look to the future with a lot more optimism.
And that, my friends, is how a stimulus package works.

Squatters in ex-pats Apartments: Just thought I’d bring your attention to the fact that the photo illustrating your link to the EuroWeekly ‘news’ item about squatters in Malaga and their eviction is not related to any event that may or may not have happened. Maybe you can advise your readers of that. As you say fake news is everywhere.
It is also interesting that there are no people called Willow that I can find anywhere in the UK. Supposedly they are from Halesowen so you might imagine that unusual surname would appear in some town or city around there. But no. How strange.

Endesa 15% Discount: Has anyone managed to successfully lodge their request for this discount? I tried yesterday, having seen the lead on Digame, but the Ensa site is just unhelpful, whether in English or Spanish.
Request is there ok, but Campaigns just isn’t. Hitting the Request Discount button in the explanatory article, even after signing in, got me nowhere.
Too much to expect Endesa to actually be helpful, as usual?

SCAM ALERT– Spain police warning on too good to be true cybercrime scam: This latest con doing the rounds on the web promises a refund and asks for a bank account number.
“You have an outstanding refund of €267.89”, the message says, telling the recipient to “verify your account by introducing your ID and SMS verification.”
Potential victims are then invited to click on a link “to confirm the reimbursement.”
The police have put out several alerts about the number of these kinds of online swindles which have appeared since the start of the coronavirus crisis and called for extra caution on receiving messages from an unknown sender. WhatsApp boosts from 4 to 8 the number of participants on videocalls: The popular messaging platform WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, on Tuesday increased from four to eight the number of people who can participate in a videocall, the move coming at a time when the app is losing ground to other competitors such as Zoom and Google Hangout.
The reigning mobile messaging app said that to be able to move beyond the previous limit of four participants, all mobile phones taking part in the call will have to have the most recent version of WhatsApp installed and the videocall will have to be initiated by a friendship group that already exists on the app as a video or voice call to which more people will be added.

European doctors warn rare kids’ syndrome may have virus tie: Doctors in Britain, Italy, and Spain have been warned to look out for a rare inflammatory condition in children that is possibly linked to the new coronavirus.

To back the request “that Andalucia is prepared to begin de-escalation by Province, Health district, or Comarca” or because the number are now looking better.]

Latest coronavirus figures reveal that the infection rate for Torrox residents is one of the lowest in Andalucia: Just five cases have been detected there since start of the pandemic and April 25, the Junta de Andalucia announced.

Recommendation- Bakers Bar, Nerja: After weeks of not being able to eat out, we decided to eat in. Bakers Bar to the rescue. We ordered Fish Chips and Mushy peas, well it was Friday. A Rack of Ribs with BBQ sauce. Delivered personally by Tony Baker at the time requested. Thank you but I do wish I had known you did delicious desserts too. There have been at least 13.023 positive tests in Andalucia, up 199 on day before. Within this number at least 1.249 people had tested positive to Coronavirus antibodies but did not have any symptoms at the time of the test. Ministry of Sanidad in Madrid only states there were 11.774 confirmed cases in Andalucia, and on 26-04-2020 stopped publishing the data to calculate the higher figure. However the Junta de Andalucia Salud still publishes its figure a few hours later
There have been 1.145 deaths in Andalucia, 14 more than the day before. We have stopped reporting cured cases as it turns out ‘curados’ meant ‘discharged from hospital’ in both Ministerio de Sanidad and Junta de Andalucia Salud statistics and not cured. Confirmed cases that required hospital admission in Andalucia are 5.748 (44% of all confirmed cases), 33 new admissions in the day. Confirmed cases that required hospital intensive care in Andalucia number 716 (5% of all confirmed cases), 1 new admissions in the day.

Children in Spain take to the streets: Under the relaxed confinement measures, children under the age of 14 are allowed to go for a one-hour walk within a one-kilometer radius of their homes between the hours of 9am and 9pm. According to the order, published on Saturday in the Official State Gazette (BOE), children must be accompanied by an adult, who can be a parent, legal guardian, person who lives with them, or professional carer. Spain MAY allow confined citizens out for walks on May 2: But PM Pedro Sánchez warns that the new easing of restrictions will depend on whether contagion figures keep going down. This is the second time that the Spanish government has moved to ease strict confinement measures that have been in place since March 14. On Sunday, children up to the age of 13 will be allowed out for an hour every day with an adult.
Sánchez explained that the deescalation will occur at different speeds depending on the situation in each region. “In the deescalation, we will not all advance at the same speed, but according to the same rules,” he said. “We will do it at different speeds depending on [the situation] of the pandemic in each place, in an asymmetric but coordinated fashion. We will do it as a team.”

Seniors in Spain may also be allowed to go out for walks from May 2: Spanish Health Minister Salvador Illa clarified on Sunday that seniors will also be allowed to go outside for walks starting on May 2 if coronavirus contagion figures continue to fall. The news comes after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Saturday that the confinement measures will be relaxed next weekend to allow for family strolls and “individual physical exercise” if the evolution of the pandemic keeps moving in a positive manner. Spain’s Andalucia PROPOSES to open businesses on May 11 & bars & restaurants from May 25: Junta de Andalucia’s President Juanma Moreno has said that he will propose to the central government in tomorrow’s meeting to allow businesses in the region to open their doors to the public on May 11. These businesses include those offering personal services, such as hairdressers, he said. However, he proposed that restaurants and bars open from May 25. What will post-coronavirus lockdown life look like in Spain?: A waiter wearing a mask and surgical gloves welcomes you at the door where you are scanned by a thermal camera to prevent entry to those with a fever, and then while maintaining a safe distance of two metres, guides you carefully along a wide route through the restaurant, to a table where you take a seat behind a plastic screen. This is the possible future being outlined by restaurant owners in Madrid keen to come up with solutions that would allow them to reopen once lockdown is lifted.
This week Madrid city authorities said they were considering a proposal to increase the area given over to outside tables – or terrazas as they are known in Spain – to allow wider spacing to maintain social distancing between tables.
Other measures under consideration include a proposal by the Noche Madrid, an association of nightlife venues in Madrid to reduce the capacity of establishments by 60 to 65 percent and to distribute masks and gloves at the door after taking temperatures of those wishing to enter. (This puts a whole new spin on the dating and pickup scene, with everyone wearing masks. Attractive faces will no longer be the advantage they once were. Females can stop wearing lipstick. Andalucia’s Government Asks For 3 Minutes of Silence This Sunday Before the 8PM Clapping: The Andalucian Government has asked citizens to hold three minutes of silence in memory of the victims lost to the coronavirus crisis at 7.57pm, this Sunday, April 26.
This three minute tribute for the deceased is scheduled just before the daily applause to the health officials who are fighting “in the front line of the battle” against the pandemic.

Thousands of parents flout restrictions across Spain’s Costa del Sol to Costa Blanca on first day kids allowed out- Police handing out hefty fines: Despite the strict rules, many fines and warnings have been handed out to parents flouting the law, for example, for staying out for more than an hour, playing football in groups, sunbathing on the beach for hours, two parents out with one child, and basically for not maintaining social distances of between one to two metres. Although most parents have tried to abide by the rules, many haven’t.
Police officers on motorbikes, in cars and on foot are still combing the beaches and streets of Costa del Sol today as many parents flout the regulations. A Local Police officer told George Stephens from EWN, “ I’m not sure what parts of the law these parents don’t understand. They are even driving down to the beach by the car load. We’ve had parents sunbathing all day, whilst their kids run around on the beach and we’ve even already had a case of a lost child. Most parents have had warnings, but a few have been argumentative, so they have been fined. Tomorrow we will endorse a zero tolerance policy.”
The police have warned that breaking curfew rules, such as leaving the house with children outside the specified hours (9am-9pm), or taking more than three children out at once, playing on swings/roundabouts or going further than the recommended one kilometre distance from home, could land a €601 fine. However, more serious matters, such as congregating and chatting with other adults or children, or walking with other groups could see parents being slapped with a fine of around €1,500.

Two Dutch Mink Farms Infected With Coronavirus: Dutch authorities Sunday cordoned off two mink farms in the southern Netherlands after tests showed the animals had been infected with the coronavirus, most likely from human contact. The farms are located east of Eindhoven in the Northern Brabant province, one of the regions hardest hit by the outbreak.
“The mink showed various signs of the disease including breathing difficulties,” the Dutch agricultural ministry said in a statement.
Tests showed the furry animals suffering from COVID-19.

Italian Scientists have detected traces of the coronavirus in particles of air pollution: The Coronavirus has been detected in particles of air pollution by Italian scientists looking into whether the illness could be carried this way over long distances and potentially increase the infection rate.
Preliminary work from researchers in Italy found a gene highly specific to Covid-19 in multiple outdoor air pollution samples. It raises a suggestion that higher levels of particle pollution could lead to higher rates of infection, which, if verified, would go to explain for example why regions of northern Italy are among the most infected in Europe. Puppy Needs a Foster Home: This beautiful male puppy has been found in La Pequena Axarquia (between Velez Malaga and Lake Vinuela). Does anyone recognise him or could anyone foster him please while we try to find a home for him?
He’s on the small side of medium at the moment and very sweet. He has been checked for a chip but doesn’t appear to have one although he’s fine on a lead so has obviously had a home.
