– Of the 319 wastewater treatment plants in Andalusia whose samples were analyzed in 2025, 91 do not comply with regulations, according to a study by Ecologists in Action based on official analyses. MALAGA CITY
Malaga joins Madrid and camps for housing in the Plaza de la Constitución: “We are not leaving here”: {Trans, summary}

New regulations for electric scooters in Nerja from October 1st: {Trans}
– From October 1, 2026, the rules for those riding electric scooters will change. The Nerja Town Hall reminds users of the importance of knowing the new regulations and complying with the established conditions before riding on the streets.

The Regional Government announces that construction of the Rincón de la Victoria Health Centre will begin in November: {Trans, summary}

Spain extends fuel discounts until year end to cushion price rises– price of petrol could fall from €1.954 per litre to €1.80 this Thursday: {Trans, summary}

Underwater solar panels- researchers successfully test panels submerged at a depth of 10 meters: {Trans, summary}
– Chinese scientists have demonstrated that solar panels can generate electricity underwater, not just on land. Tests were conducted ten metres below the surface in the South China Sea, a location previously considered unsuitable for such technology. The panels are designed to capture wavelengths of sunlight that penetrate seawater, allowing them to power underwater equipment for longer periods without relying on batteries.
– During a two-hour trial near the Weizhou islands, the panels generated electricity at a depth of ten metres. Laboratory tests suggest they could operate continuously for several years. Previous underwater tests had only reached depths of up to two metres.
– A key obstacle is that light attenuates rapidly underwater. At ten metres, much of the sun’s energy has already been absorbed or scattered, though some light types travel further than others. Researchers used perovskite cells, an alternative to silicon, tuned to absorb blue and green light. In laboratory conditions simulating ten-metre depth, the cells converted around 35 per cent of received sunlight into electricity. Larger versions tested at sea produced 1,416 milliwatt-hours at two metres and 324 milliwatt-hours at ten metres over two hours. The panels showed almost no performance loss after 1,160 hours in simulated underwater conditions. Researchers estimate continuous operation for about five and a half years at ten metres.

SpaceX’s Starship Reaches Orbit For The First Time – Then Explodes After Splashdown:
– SpaceX’s Starship achieved orbit for the first time yesterday, deploying 26 Starlink satellites before its mission was brought to an early close, ending with a dramatic explosion in the North Pacific.
– The 124-meter (407-foot) rocket successfully launched at 07:48 am Texas time (08:48 EDT/13:48 BST), with its 52-meter (171-foot) upper stage separating cleanly from the Super Heavy booster 2 minutes 30 seconds into the flight, despite one of its 33 booster engines cutting out during the launch.
– After the last satellite had been deployed, Ship continued its orbit around Earth, completing nearly two full revolutions before splashing down into the ocean. This was a much shorter mission than had originally been planned, cutting nearly 7 hours of flight time and failing to achieve the six orbits of Earth the firm had hoped for.
– The vehicle splashed down in the northern Pacific at 3 hours and 8 minutes post-launch, after re-orienting to a vertical position and slowing its descent. It was initially intact, but slowly toppled and exploded in an enormous fireball, something SpaceX has previously referred to euphemistically as a “rapid unscheduled disassembly.”
