DIGAMEXTRA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT !!!

It’s business as usual on the Internet, and Internet services bills must still be paid! There is no sponsor income during the lockdown. From the beginning of lockdown I put all sponsor accounts on hold until they can operate again. So, businesses and readers, please consider making a donation or becoming a DigameXtra Sponsor to help pay the production expenses and WordPress bills. Email for sponsorship info. You can join the Sponsor list and be rewarded with extra posting privileges. Donations of cash or your old but working computers, tablets or smartphones graciously accepted. You may drop these off at the DigameXtra office in Torrox Costa, but please call before coming over, 675 993 069. Or I can meet you at the Torrox Costa Lidl or Aldi or tobacco shop near the bus station if that makes it easier for you. Another possibility is to buy Amazon gift cards online and have them sent to me. Sorry, no bank or Paypal. Donations are not tax deductable. Thank you.

Thanks to the reader who sent me an Amazon gift card on Friday. Your name was not included on the e-card, but be sure it is appreciated! -Ed.

Restaurant & Market Deliveries and Open Services

If your business is allowed to operate during the lockdown, send in your details for inclusion to let Readers know. If you know for certain a restaurant is still delivering (none should be offering take-away at this point), have them send in the details including Name of Restaurant, Location, Phone Number, Hours and a photo of their menu (optional). Unfortunately I have received some inaccurate info from well meaning 3rd parties which has caused problems. So now these businesses must submit their own posts, although I will in this case allow them to post even if they are not subscribers. -Ed.

Recommendations & Requests

LOYMAR Recommendation: We had our delivery today from “LOYPAR” recommended on digame. We are pleased to say that they delivered prompty and everything was delivered as ordered.
We are situated at Torrox area, and I believe that for this area the minimum order was 50 euros with free delivery. We have a friend who is situated in Algarrobo and I believe in her area the minimum order was 30 euros with free delivery.

Social distancing: I was doing the “big shop “ in Eroski yesterday only the second time in the lockdown.
When you go in you must take the disposable gloves and use the liquid hand spray, there is a security guard checking and helping you.
Later I was surprised to say the least to see a young woman in the supermarket with a 5 ish year old boy in tow. Neither had any protection on, except that she had the obligatory disposable gloves, and were not trying to practice social distancing ….the boy stood next to me and said hola!
People were looking amazed at her, she appeared oblivious.
In these days I reflected on her inability to realise what she was doing to herself, her child and potentially to others in the supermarket.
She must have been allowed in by the security man .
I amazes me how some people just don’t get it ( in all countries) .
She obviously couldn’t even wait until the 27th of this month !
Sorry about the rant ….but most of us are trying to look after ourselves and others …..there are always the exceptions ?
To the rest of you ….be safe !

Andalucia Coronavirus Cases: Last Updated- Friday 24-04-2020 at 16.47
https://www.andalucia.com/health/coronavirus
There have been 12.495 positive tests in Andalucia, up 258 on day before. Within this number 959 persons that tested positive to Coronavirus antibodies but did not have any symptoms at the time of the test, hence Ministry of Salud prefers to say there were 11.536 confirmed cases. There have been 1.107 deaths, 28 more than the day before. We have stopped reporting cured cases as it turns out ‘curados’ meant ‘discharged from hospital’ in both Ministerio de Salud amd Junta de Andalucia statistics. Confirmed cases that required hospital admission in Andalucia are 5.675 (47% of all confirmed cases), 59 new admissions in the day. Confirmed cases that required hospital intensive care in Andalucia number 714 (6% of all confirmed cases), 12 new admissions in the day.
Andalucia is one of the better placed of the Spain’s 17 regions. In a metric; IA(14d) which is ‘cases in last 14 days per 100.000 population’ Andalucia with 24.08 (23-04-2020) is one of the least inflicted region in Spain. Within the 8 provinces of Andalucia, Malaga initially stood out as the worst of the 8 provinces by far, however since the popular airport was as good as closed the difference between Malaga and other cities such as Sevilla and Granada has narrowed.

How to safely take children outside under Spain’s relaxed confinement measures: In WhatsApp groups across Spain, families have been discussing a host of issues, from whether a child’s bicycle needs to be cleaned to whether it’s appropriate to eat during the walk. María Elsa Calle, a professor at Madrid’s Complutense University School of Medicine who is an expert in epidemiology and preventive medicine, shared her advice:  Full article:

Marbella beaches to open this weekend to allow walks with children: Marbella beaches will no longer be fenced from this Sunday, April 26. The town hall has decided to enable the entire coastal space so that residents can use it for walks, although bathing will continue to be prohibited. Local Police and Proteccion Civil will monitor compliance with restrictions and respect for safety distances. Pirate IPTV Supplier Raided By Spain’s National Police, Seven Arrested: Spain’s National Police say they have dismantled a criminal network involved in the supply of pirated audiovisual and television content across the country. Following six raids, seven individuals were arrested under suspicion of operating an unlicensed IPTV and card-sharing service.
Spain has carried out a number of enforcement actions over the past several years.
This investigation reportedly began in May 2019 following a criminal complaint filed by EGEDA, a non-profit association and collection society that manages the rights of audiovisual producers. The group sought police action against local supplier Comprarccam, a pirate IPTV supplier that also appears to have offered card-sharing subscriptions.
According to a police report, initial inquiries determined that the group, which advertised and sold its services via a website and social networks, serviced at least 15,000 customers in Spain.
At the time of the searches, police also disconnected a total of 5,673 users from the pirate service, closed down the group’s website, and froze online payment and related bank accounts.

Fakebook and Skype Both Roll Out ZOOM Alternatives: Facebook Inc. introduced a videoconferencing tool and expanded livestreaming features on Friday, capitalizing on a surge in demand for video chats during the coronavirus pandemic while taking its first steps toward a planned integration of messaging products across its apps.
The videoconferencing tool, Messenger Rooms, will enable as many as 50 people to participate in a call, the company said in a statement. It will display a tiled layout of participant videos – up to 16 on desktop and 8 on mobile – resembling the design offered by competitor Zoom.
Facebook users will be able to share links enabling non-users to join Rooms via a web browser on both desktop and mobile, eliminating requirements to download an app or create an account as on other services.
There will be no time limits on the calls.
With the launch, Facebook joins a crowded field of companies rushing to dominate the market for video meetings, as millions of people locked in their homes around the world are suddenly reliant on the tools for work, school and social life.
Microsoft Corp., Zoom Video Communications, Cisco Systems Inc. and Alphabet’s Google also have rolled out updates of their video meeting tools while reporting record growth since the lockdowns began.
On Tuesday, Microsoft (MSFT) introduced a new “Meet Now” for Skype that can accommodate video meetings of up to 50 people without downloading any apps. Google, whose Meet tool for businesses has been its fastest-growing service this year, said this month that it was working on enhancements for consumers too.

Interpreter: Good morning everyone, I went to torrox pueblo health center this morning, with a patient. I had warned him that they may not let me in with him, as some centers might not allow a second person , and that there are interpreters which they can contact on the phone, if necessary. But he wanted the assurance of an interpreter he knew. Well, I was welcomed with open arms, by both the doctor and the nurses, who told me that it was near to impossible to get an interpreter when they needed one. (They must be so busy now)
So, I’m just putting this out there. If you are going to the health center and you want to be sure that there is an interpreter available, do call me. I’m always at the end of the phone.

Thank you.

A BIG thanks to D.B for delivering a donation of surplus computer gear yesterday.

-Ed.

Proposed Rules For Children: (Updated 23 APR 2020 – 14:03 CEST) At today’s press conference, Iglesias and Illa went into more details about the ministerial order, set to be approved on Saturday, that will allow parents to take their out for the first time in six weeks. Details could change before the vote.
Under the new rules, an adult will be able to go out onto the street with as many as three children. What’s more, the children will be allowed to run and not just walk.
Iglesias explained that “[children] will be able to run, jump, play sport, respecting physical distancing conditions […]. They will also be able to go out with toys, a ball or a scooter but they cannot go to play areas in parks.” He said that children living in rural areas will be able to “go for a walk in the woods or the countryside respecting the security measures.” The prime minister added that youngsters experiencing coronavirus symptoms should remain at home.
Iglesias said that parents should avoid taking children on to the street in “peak hours,” adding that minors will be able to be accompanied by a “responsible adult who lives with them, who could also be an older sibling.” The adult in charge will be responsible for ensuring the child follows the security measures.
Youngsters aged 15 and over will be allowed to leave the house alone in order to perform essential activities as adults can, such as the aforementioned visits to supermarkets, etc.
Full story: https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-04-22/spanish-government-confirms-details-of-relaxation-of-coronavirus-confinement-measures-for-under-14s.html
More proposed info from another source (Updated 17.15h on Thursday 23 April)- Children under 14 will not be able to be outside alone and will not be allowed to go further than one kilometre away from the home, and nor will they be able to visit parks or playgrounds. They will be able to exercise and run, however, as long as they continue to respect social distancing.
The ministers also explained that the daily walk will only be allowed between 9am to 9pm – and that ‘peak hours’ should be avoided.

Prices Crash for Bars For Sale on the Costa del Sol: Bars and restaurants are going on the market daily, with prices crashing by up to 40k€ with even further reductions expected to hit the market. Whilst at the same time bar owners are simply throwing in the towel with no plans to re-open at all.
We spoke to Gary Adamson the MD of Bars Abroad who said “I’ve been listing reductions all day and will be all week, there’s going to be some real deals to be had for those buyers who have the cash and are prepared to wait until the situation here gets back to normal, buyers need to look at the long term as well as take advantage of the huge reductions right now.

Football Shocker as Fans in Spain Are Barred from La Liga Matches until 2021 due to Covid-19 Pandemic: La Liga clubs in the top two divisions have been told by the government that any resumption will be dependent on playing behind closed doors. That comes as no surprise, but the news that the stadiums will not reopen to supporters ahead of the New Year comes a blow both to fans and clubs needing a boost in their revenue. Source:

Amazon Scams It’s Own Sellers: Whistleblowers claim Amazon Collected Data From Its Own Sellers to Launch Competing Products! Interviews with more than 20 former employees of Amazon’s private-label business, and documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, reveal that employees did just that. Contrary to assertions to Congress, employees often consulted sales information on third-party vendors when developing private-label merchandise.
Such information can help Amazon decide how to price an item, which features to copy or whether to enter a product segment based on its earning potential, according to people familiar with the practice, including a current employee and some former employees who participated in it.
In one instance, Amazon employees accessed documents and data about a bestselling car-trunk organizer sold by a third-party vendor. The information included total sales, how much the vendor paid Amazon for marketing and shipping, and how much Amazon made on each sale. Amazon’s private-label arm later introduced its own car-trunk organizers. See pic.
If you’re a business selling your products through Amazon, the e-commerce giant may use data on your products and sales to develop its own, competing products, according to a new report in the Wall Street Journal.

It’s About Time!!!- Google to Require All Advertisers to Verify Identity: You mean all this time Google was selling ad space without verifying the buyer’s identity, and letting them load the space with whatever ad content they wanted? Yup! Other than hardcore porn and graphic violence for which there are automatic detection filters, it was pretty much anything goes. That’s how all the ads containing malware and fraud have been allowed to operate with impunity. The ad space is purchased using an alias, protecting the true identity of the criminals.
In a blog post published Thursday, Google’s director of product management, ads integrity John Canfield said the policy the company enacted almost two years ago for political advertising will be expanded to all ads.
“As part of this initiative, advertisers will be required to complete a verification program in order to buy ads on our network,” Canfield wrote. “Advertisers will need to submit personal identification, business incorporation documents or other information that proves who they are and the country in which they operate.
“Beginning this summer, users will start to see disclosures that list this information about the advertiser behind the ads they see.”
Canfield wrote that the new policy will be implemented across the company’s network, a lineup that includes the Google search engine and YouTube.

These banners do NOT indicate the business is open during the Alarm Period. They are simply promos like a roadside billboard. I see no reason to remove them. By now everyone should know non-essential travel is banned. Call Sponsors for their current status as most, but not all, must be closed. -Ed.

DIGAMEXTRA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT- It’s business as usual on the Internet, and Internet related bills must still be paid! Thank you.

-Ed.

iPhones Hacked By Emails: Flaw in iPhone, iPads allowed hackers to steal data for years! The default Mail app pre-installed on millions of iPhones and iPads has been found vulnerable to two critical flaws that attackers are exploiting in the wild, at least, from the last two years, to spy on high-profile victims.
The flaws could eventually let remote hackers secretly take complete control over Apple devices just by sending an email to any targeted individual with his email account logged-in to the vulnerable app. No patch available yet. At the time of writing, only the beta 13.4.5 version of iOS, released just last week, contains security patches for both zero-day vulnerabilities.
For millions of iPhone and iPad users, a public software patch will soon be available with the release of the upcoming iOS update.
Meanwhile, Apple users are strongly advised to do not to use their smartphones’ built-in mail application; instead, temporarily switch to Outlook or Gmail apps. Full details: https://thehackernews.com/2020/04/zero-day-warning-its-possible-to-hack.html AND

Brexit Hotline

The Spanish government has a hotline to answer all queries from Brits living in Spain about the implications of Brexit, in English. Callers can ring 060 when in Spain or +34 902 887060 if calling from abroad and an automated system will offer the choice of either Spanish or English.
You will then be offered a choice of information on the different issues.
The service also offers the option of speaking to an operator for those requiring further information or with a specific query not dealt with by the automated options. Source: https://www.thelocal.es/20200218/spain-launches-dedicated-brexit-hotline

DIGAMEXTRA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT- It’s business as usual on the Internet, and Internet related bills must still be paid! Sorry, no bank or Paypal. Donations are not tax deductable. Thank you.

Hi Naythan: Firstly, I would like to commend you on your daily efforts to keep the Axarquia informed. Your daily newsletter is a great source of information during normal times. But, now, in these trying times, you are a priceless gem; a source of critical information and entertainment. And your recent addition of a humour section is just what we need now; a good laugh. And for those of us who are now in our “other” homes, DigameXtra helps us keep connected with our winter abode.
Cheers, Andrew C., Vancouver Island, Canada andrew-clarke AT shaw DoT ca

Crossed Signals, Gov’t Officials Contradict Each Other: Regarding children going outdoors from 27 April. There are conflicting stories circulating in various publications. Some say that children under the age of 14 will only be allowed to accompany adults on essential errands. Others say that was changed,  that the new rule will be children up to the age of 14 would only be able to go out for walks with a parent or carer.
I will update this when reliable info is available.

Spain seeks refund for defective coronavirus tests, after replacement kits also prove faulty: The Health Ministry has canceled an entire order of antigen kits from Chinese company Bioeasy, after already sending back a first batch. The move comes after the health authorities found that the kits – which were meant to replace another lot that was found to be faulty – don’t work either. As happened the first time around, these tests do not have the sensitivity required to detect the virus, meaning that there is a high chance that they won’t detect the coronavirus in a person who has been infected. Source: https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-04-21/spain-seeking-to-get-money-back-for-defective-coronavirus-tests-after-replacement-kits-also-found-to-be-faulty.html

Virus forces cancellation of iconic events like Oktoberfest: Spain called off the Running of the Bulls in July, the U.S. scrapped the national spelling bee in June and Germany canceled Oktoberfest five months away, making it clear Tuesday that the effort to beat back the coronavirus and return to normal could be a long and dispiriting process. Dutch court approves euthanasia in advanced dementia cases: The Netherlands’ highest court ruled Tuesday that doctors can carry out euthanasia in patients with advanced dementia if the patient has earlier made a written directive. The Supreme Court ruling solidifies in law a practice that already was being carried out on rare occasions in the Netherlands. Full article: https://apnews.com/1ed45f0819e788708da51d161b48e9f8

Fakebook Fiasco- Did Spanish Ministry of Health Buy Fake Followers?: The Spanish Ministry of Health published a statement saying that “since last Friday, April 17, it has been the victim of fraudulent activity by various apparently false accounts that generate massive interactions (fake followers & likes) in specific publications of the official Facebook account.” A video, copied and spread over and over on all kinds of social networks, seems to point out that the government has bought these false followers to promote the Ministry’s publications on Facebook.
It is extremely easy to buy followers and reactions to a publication on social networks. There are numerous companies on the Internet that are dedicated to this activity. As we have been able to check the prices for 10,000 positive interactions to a publication on Facebook are relatively cheap. Between 100 and 200 euros, depending on the company we choose.

68% of Spaniards consider the government’s management a “disaster”: 67.9 percent of Spaniards consider that the management made by the Pedro Sánchez government of the coronavirus crisis has been a “disaster”, according to a survey by the National Institute for Analytical Studies (INEA), collected by Europa Press. The sample of this study on the state of emergency is very wide since 351,688 online surveys have been carried out throughout the national territory. These have been carried out between April 1 and 10, when essential activities were also paralyzed by the recoverable compulsory permit that the Government decreed. According to this work, only 22 percent consider that the Executive’s management has been very efficient and the opinion of 10.2 percent is neutral in this regard. Spain’s Government sets maximum price tag for face masks at 0.96 euros to prevent public from Costa Del Sol to Costa Blanca from getting ripped off: Illa said the Government has taken this measure to avoid price abuse. According to the Minister, some vendors had increased the price tag of face masks by a whopping 400%, when they were in severe short supply since the beginning of the pandemic. However, he did not yet announce maximum prices for sanitizer gel or nitrilo gloves, as the Government hinted over the weekend.
Although Illa recommends the use of face masks, he added that it won’t be compulsory, but can be bought at a fair price without being ripped off to help the public better protect themselves from the coronavirus (Covid-19). He also announced that there are now enough face mask supplies for both health workers and the public who want to use one. DIGAMEXTRA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT- It’s business as usual on the Internet, and Internet related bills must still be paid! Sorry, no bank or Paypal. Donations are not tax deductable. Thank you.

Used Spectacles & Stamps: Sadly my husband died in February this year, and altogether left nine pairs of spectacles ( some tinted). I am at a loss to know what to do with these although I have read somewhere that they can be recycled for some people who need them. Unfortunately I cannot travel so would need some kind person to collect them from me.
I also have a quantity of used postage stamps which I believe some charities accept. Any help on either of the above will be gratefully appreciated please. Norma. Competa.
email: grantserena@gmail.com

Paint Delivery?: Can anyone please let me know if there is any shop / business that is able to deliver paint ect during the lockdown. I would be pleased to get on with some jobs to fill my time! I live just outside Torrox Pueblo. Please any information to Bob on the following e.mail. Email: Darcymay1@icloud.com. Thanks

Thanks: Hi. Thank you so much for the information. Greatly appreciated as my Spanish licence expires on 7th May. We would be lost without Digamextra and you at the helm.

Dubious coronavirus death counts prompt anger, confusion & mistrust in Spain: (Reuters) Spain already has one of the world’s highest death tolls from the coronavirus pandemic. But data indicating the true number of fatalities could be much higher is fueling public anger and could cause problems for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s fragile government.
Spain’s total deaths rose to 20,852 on Monday. But the figure fails to account for those who were more than likely killed by the virus but never tested. And sometimes families burying their dead are not even certain what their loved ones died of. In a nursing home near Barcelona, an 85-year-old woman died on April 8 of “possible” COVID-19, said her daughter Amparo, citing a doctor’s death certificate.
Fernando Simon, the national coronavirus emergency response chief, has acknowledged that the “real number of deaths is hard to know”. Full article: https://news.trust.org/item/20200420153239-vkzqv

Denmark and Norway lift pandemic restrictions on small businesses: Denmark and Norway lifted restrictions by allowing some small businesses to open on Monday as activity slowly returns to normal. Denmark was the first country in the European Union to reopen nurseries and schools on 15 April and Norway, which is not in the bloc, followed suit on Monday by opening nurseries and within a week is expected to open schools for children up until the fourth grade. In both countries dentists, psychologists, physical therapists, opticians and podiatrists, among others, can resume work. Hairdressers, masseurs and tattoo artists will reopen in Denmark on Monday but they will have to wait another week to do so in Norway.

DIGAMEXTRA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT- It’s business as usual on the Internet, and Internet related bills must still be paid! Sorry, no bank or Paypal. Donations are not tax deductable. Thank you.

La Peña in Archez: We tried a meal from La Peña in Archez last night, and it was excellent. The food was tasty and arrived piping hot, we live in the campo on a carril but Juan was happy to bring it to our door despite this. I will suggest to him he submits a post and menu to digame, but in the meantime you can contact him on whatsapp 657905067. He’s operating Tuesdays to Sundays in Sedella, Salares, Corumbela, Archez, Canillas de Albaida and Competa. He only started this service this week, and really deserves to be supported.

Chemical spraying: Civil liberties versus state during corona crisis.
I live in an urbanisation in Caleta de Velez. At 10am this saturday 18th April, a tractor drove past my house spraying chemicals 20 ft into the air over houses, gardens, cars, pets and people (if there were any outside).
It stinks. It adheres to all surfaces. If my windows had been open or my dog outside we would have been soaked. All I could do after it passed was hose down my plants and walls to get rid of some of it.
It’s bad enough that all the vegetables and fruit grown around here are soaked in chemicals in fields of black plastic, but is it really good for my, or anyone’s, health and safety to spray neighbourhoods indiscriminately, without warning, with who knows what chemical cocktail?
Footage of migrant workers in India being sprayed with chemicals caused outrage in the press, why are we putting up with this?
I tried to call euroweeklynews to report this but no answer.
Yours, Irene, irenegrant69 At gmail DoT com

Driving Licence Renewal: Does anyone know the protocol for renewing your licence during the lockdown period. Any info would be appreciated.
Dorothy / Archez ; dotbarrett25@gmail.com
(Editor’s Reply- The Spanish government has said that it will automatically extend the validity of driving licences that expire during the state of alarm.
“Driving licences and permits, as well as other administrative authorisations to drive, whose period of validity runs out during the state of alarm, will be automatically extended as long as this lasts and up to sixty days after its end,” says the resolution published by the Ministry of the Interior in the Official State Gazette on Saturday.
The measure applies to Spanish and foreign licences valid to drive in Spain.

HOAX ALERT: COVID-19 News About Spain Using Planes to Spray Disinfectant is FALSE!
Major English language news outlets are falsely reporting that Spain will be using planes to spray. This is not true. The original Spanish language source article was mis-translated by the English language conservative news website Zerohedge, and then many other websites reposted that incorrect Zerohedge article. I alerted Zerohedge, but as of now their erroneous article is still posted. It is also linked as a headline on the Drudge Report, one of the most visited news sites worldwide, who I also alerted to the error, they have not taken it down either. The Drudge Report desk editor just now replied, saying they have removed all references to this topic as of 6pm NY time.
Spanish Original article: https://www.larazon.es/espana/20200417/6fjwc35dubapfahyy2qu3xvns4.html
Here is a translation from the Spanish source that clearly says it was a mistake to announce planes would be used:
Although planes or helicopters were initially considered to carry out this task, military sources assure this newspaper that it is a mistake of the Bulletin and that the authorization does not refer to “aerial means”, but to “aerial procedures”, that is, through special machines “to disperse the disinfecting substance through the air.” A kind of “fog generators”, they point out. Others confirm that it should not have been written as “aerial means”, but rather as “aerial techniques”, since it is “a mist in the air”.
Here is a Spanish website that tracks and exposes these hoaxes, https://maldita.es/

Andalusian premier to call on prime minister to allow relaxation of confinement measures in his region first, given low infection rate: Today’s figure was a significant fall from Saturday, which saw 565 confirmed fatalities, and with a reduction of 155, represents the biggest drop in daily deaths since the crisis began.
However, the data should be viewed with some caution, given that there has been regular underreporting of coronavirus statistics from Spain’s 17 regions at weekends and on public holidays. Source: https://english.elpais.com/society/2020-04-19/daily-coronavirus-deaths-in-spain-fall-to-410-the-lowest-figure-seen-in-a-month.html

Spanish PM to seek extension to state of alarm, will allow children to leave the home from April 27: In a televised address on Saturday evening, Pedro Sánchez announces that there will be a “cautious and progressive” deescalation of confinement measures from May 11.
Among the changes to the current conditions announced by the prime minister today were opportunities for children to leave the home under controlled circumstances from April 27. Specific details of where children will be allowed to go and how often, however, are yet to be announced. He also said that he would seek approval in Congress to extend the current state of alarm – which was first implemented on March 14 – to May 9, and that from May 11, there would be a “cautious and progressive” deescalation of confinement measures.

Italy’s daily coronavirus death toll hits one-week low: Deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy rose by 433 on Sunday, the lowest daily tally in a week, and the number of new cases also slowed to 3,047 from a previous 3,491, the Civil Protection Agency said.
The death toll had risen by 482 on Saturday, down from 575 on Friday.
The daily tallies of deaths and cases extend the broadly stable situation in place over the last two weeks.
This plateau is down considerably from peaks reached around the end of March, but the downtrend has not proceeded as fast as was hoped in a country that has been in lockdown for almost six weeks.
Sunday’s number of deaths marked the lowest daily rise since April 12, when it came in at 431, before rising again during the week. Source: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-italy-tally/italys-daily-coronavirus-death-toll-hits-one-week-low-idUSKBN2210NR

Sweden still refuses to go into lockdown despite highest jump in Covid-19 deaths to date: The number of new Covid-19 infections rose by 482, bringing the overall count to 11,927 from 11,445, yesterday. Yet Sweden remains reluctant to follow the rest of Europe and order a lockdown. Bars, restaurants and shops are still open, as are schools, despite mounting criticism from the country’s leading doctors and academics. Tech Fact: How does big tech plan on saving all that data they collect? Won’t they run out of hard drive farms and clouds eventually?
The answer according to Microsoft is DNA. Microsoft believes synthetic DNA could be the next big leap in long-term data storage, with just one gram of DNA capable of storing 215 petabytes of data for up to 2,000 years. A petabyte equals 1,000,000 gigabytes. If it pans out, the technology could significantly reduce the space required to store the world’s growing data. LOYPAR is now providing home deliveries:
Thanks to Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga for this info!
We all have been in lockdown for a while. Both Anna and I are over 65 so we are considered high risk so we are staying home.
We stocked up before the lockdown so we were fine. Since the lockdown was extended we did some research.
For 10-12 years we have gone monthly to the Wholesaler LOYPAR which is located in the Velez Malaga “Poligonos Industriales.”
They carry everything including liquor. We found that LOYPAR is now providing home deliveries. Everyone is changing the way that they do business during this time.
You can find their website at www.Loypar.com. They have a great website and they are adding more products every day including fresh produce.
We placed our order on Tuesday at 10 AM and received our order at 10 AM Wednesday.
We have formed a relationship with Antonio Lopez and we would like to share it with everyone.
He can be contacted at pedidos AT lopezpardo DOT com or WhatsApp at 34 697 210 813. He speaks perfect English. He is very responsive and helpful.
Tell him David and Anna from Vetiver Spain referred you. We like to acknowledge someone who is doing a great job during this trying time.

DIGAMEXTRA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT- It’s business as usual on the Internet, and Internet related bills must still be paid! There is no sponsor income during the lockdown.

-Ed.

Spain’s Minister of Health recalls 100,000 defective masks made in China: Spain’s Health Ministry has recalled the defective FFP2 masks imported from China because they do not comply with European quality standards. Regions to have received the defective batch include Andalucia, Madrid, Valencia, Galicia, La Rioja, Castilla y Leon and Castilla-La Mancha. The batch of 68,600 distributed to Andalucia was withdrawn immediately after the warning was received from the Ministry of Health. However, some health departments in certain regions claim that these masks have been used for several weeks until they were alerted about the recall just recently. More than 50,000 Costa construction workers back on site as ban ends: Monday was the first working day back for employees who are not in any of the fully shutdown sectors of the economy (such as restaurants, gyms or bars) and those who are unable to work from home. In Malaga province this included the return of over 50,000 workers in the construction sector to outdoor sites and public works. Builders visiting homes where people are living have been banned however.
Another big non-essential sector to go back to work was gardening, which provides a lot of employment in the developments and public gardens of the Costa del Sol. Food and healthcare manufacturing had not been paused but other non-essential industry was allowed back. Crohn’s disease cure: Australian scientists claim to have found a cure for the debilitating Crohn’s disease thanks to a treatment of antibiotics and faecal transplants. Crohn’s disease, which is becoming increasingly common, has conventionally been treated using medicines to suppress the activity of the body’s immune system. However, these treatments have not always not been effective and relapse is common. The latest cure promises prolonged remission, according to the researchers. Remission of between three and 23 years can be achieved with this cure, enabling patients to have an improved and ‘pain-free’ quality of life, confirms the research. Why Are They Hiding The Facts? : Citing coronavirus crisis, Spain retreats on transparency requests for information regarding government procurement during the health emergency are going unanswered! The state of alarm decreed in Spain a month ago to combat the coronavirus crisis has put transparency legislation on hold. While citizens may still file requests for information, the automatic reply is that these will not be processed until the country goes back to normal.
This makes it impossible to access documents such as the meeting minutes of the expert committee that the government says it is basing its coronavirus decisions on, or a copy of the contract showing the purchase of 640,000 rapid tests from China that turned out to be defective.
It is also not possible to access data that might indicate how many tests are being conducted by each region of Spain, a figure that the Health Ministry is not revealing even though it has this information. Spain implemented a Transparency Law in 2014. Full story:

Millions of Bees found dead across Spain’s Costa del Sol & Costa Blanca causes Farmers to worry about food shortages: Reports are flooding in from all over Spain of honey bees dropping dead to the floor in their millions.
Some are blaming the recent spate of mass disinfections carried out in streets and urbanisations throughout Spain, millions of litres of chemicals were sprayed onto walls, roads and trees in a bid to rid the country of the deadly coronavirus.
Spanish farmers have a right to be worried because, without the precious Bee, crops will not be pollinated and will not grow, leading to major food shortages.

Disinfection: On Tuesday a lot of council workers descended on the road in front of our apartment block on the Torrox/Velez border. They were putting up huge signs, white lining the road, and erecting a rubber pipe above the road and a row of rubber discs across the road. They are disinfecting cars. The cars go over the rubber discs and activate an overhead spray. I only saw it working once, it was so windy that the spray blew everywhere, on the oleander hedge, on the vehicles parked on the other side of the road, the bins, everywhere but on the cars. I think they might have turned it off now as I haven’t seen it working since.
All I am asking is why? What good will this do? Like hosing down empty buildings only for the rain to wash it all off immediately. This virus is not spread by buildings or cars, is it? Doors and door knobs maybe but nobody is going to touch the walls of buildings 20ft up. Where is the science in all this? And what’s in the spray? If disinfectant did any good we would all be spraying ourselves with Dettol daily.

Facebook Admits Aiding The Spread of Fake COVID-19 News and Hoaxes. Plans to scan all user accounts and send warnings: Hoping to stem the torrent of false cures and conspiracy theories about COVID-19, Facebook announced Thursday it would begin informing users globally who have liked, commented on, or shared “harmful” misinformation about the coronavirus, pointing them instead in the direction of a reliable source.
Under Facebook’s new policy, when a piece of “harmful” coronavirus-related misinformation has been debunked by its fact checkers, and removed from the site, all users who have interacted with it will be shown a message in their news feed directing them to the WHO’s list of debunked claims. People who have liked, commented on, or shared Facebook posts saying that drinking bleach can cure COVID-19, or that social distancing does not prevent the disease from spreading, will be among the first to see the new message “in the coming weeks.” Full story: https://news.yahoo.com/facebook-notifying-users-shared-coronavirus-130006739.html?

‘Grave concerns’ about Covid-19 immunity passports: Trapped between the competing urgencies of saving lives from Covid-19 and avoiding economic calamity, some government officials have mooted “immunity passports” as a way through the impasse. But experts told FRANCE 24 that the necessary antibody testing is not reliable enough – and even if the scheme were feasible, it could create a dangerous incentive for some to acquire the virus in order to qualify for the passport. Foot sores could be an early sign of coronavirus, experts say: The Spanish General Council of Official Podiatrist Colleges warned experts that some COVID-19 patients have experienced lesions on their feet “similar to those of chickenpox or measles,” according to Newsflash. “They are purple lesions (very similar to those of chickenpox, measles or chilblains) which usually appear on the toes and normally heal without leaving a mark,” the group said.

Did China Delay Sharing C-19 Info? : On Jan. 14, China’s top health agency told provincial officials that they were facing a likely pandemic from a new coronavirus — but didn’t alert the public for six key days. President Xi Jinping warned the public on the seventh day, Jan. 20. By then, more than 3,000 people had been infected, according to retrospective infection data. The week of silence came at a critical time — the beginning of the outbreak. Internal documents obtained by The Associated Press show the National Health Commission ordered secret pandemic preparations, even as it downplayed the outbreak on national television. These banners do NOT indicate the business is open during the Alarm Period. They are simply promos like a roadside billboard. I see no reason to remove them. By now everyone should know non-essential travel is banned. Call Sponsors for their current status as most, but not all, must be closed. -Ed.

All current Sponsors have received 30 day extensions to their Sponsorship expiration dates to compensate for the lockdown time we are experiencing. -Ed.

DIGAMEXTRA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT- It’s business as usual on the Internet, and Internet related bills must still be paid! There is no sponsor income during the lockdown. They get a free ride until they can operate again. Sorry, no bank or Paypal. Donations are not tax deductable. Thank you.

-Ed.

Germany plans to let smaller shops reopen next week after a weeks long coronavirus shutdown and to start reopening schools in early May: But Europe’s biggest economy is keeping strict social distancing rules in place for now. Nonessential shops, which have also have been closed for nearly four weeks, will be allowed to start reopening, with hygiene precautions, if they are up to 800 square meters (8,600 square feet) in area. So will auto showrooms, bike shops and bookshops, irrespective of their size.
Merkel said the decisions will apply to the period from Monday though May 3, and officials will review the situation again on April 30.
She said authorities also will recommend that people wear face masks on public transport and when shopping, but are stopping short of making their use obligatory for now. Full story: https://apnews.com/a808be6b5ff4d28e7a3e65711204a29b

Would you give up health or location data to return to work? : New systems to track who is infected and who isn’t, and where they’ve been, have been created or extended in China, South Korea and Singapore. And a range of other surveillance systems – some utilizing GPS location data, some gathering medical data – have been debated or piloted in Israel, Germany, the U.K., Italy and elsewhere. Spain just announced they are joining this effort with a new mobile app.
Whether the prospect on the table is “immunity passports” or cellphone-based tracking apps, the aim is to protect public health. But experts say it’s also important to avoid a slippery-slope scenario where data collected to minimize the spread of disease is stored indefinitely, available without limits to law enforcement or susceptible to hackers. EasyJet entices holiday makers with “1 euro bag offer” to Spain’s Costa del Sol & Costa Blanca for advance bookings: EasyJet is enticing holiday makers to fly to Spain’s Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca after the lockdown ends with “bags for just 1 euro when you book your next adventure”. In its latest offer, EasyJet says it wants to “help you make the most of your adventure”, so it is offering customers to check-in their bags for “just 1 euro”. “Plus, we’ll fly your sports equipment for 1 euro too, so you can pack your bike, clubs, surfboard or skis and make your next getaway one to remember,” the airline adds.
The company is also offering cheap package holidays deals for next year, starting from May with dates available until September. EasyJet adds that its holiday packages are “ATOL-protected”, meaning even if they don’t go ahead, you will be entitled to a full refund.
Full story: https://www.euroweeklynews.com/2020/04/16/easyjet-entices-holiday-makers-with-1-euro-bag-offer-to-spains-costa-del-sol-costa-blanca-for-advance-bookings/

What’s happening to the beer left in pubs? : Fifty million pints – give or take.
That’s the amount of beer expected to go unused in barrels if pubs remain closed into the summer because of coronavirus. Publicans are currently unable to sell their lagers, ales and ciders – save for takeaways and home deliveries.
The UK’s 39,000 pubs have, on average, 15 barrels in their cellar at any given time. Most are kegs containing 11 gallons (88 pints) each – although many real ales come in nine-gallon (72-pint) casks. The best-before dates on pasteurised beer – including most lagers – are usually three to four months after delivery. Those for real ales and other unpasteurised beer are usually set at six to nine weeks. So most stock could go to waste if social distancing measures remain in place for several months. 49 Crypto Wallet Extensions in Google Chrome Caught Hijacking Accounts: Google has ousted 49 Chrome browser extensions from its Web Store that masqueraded as cryptocurrency wallets but contained malicious code to siphon off sensitive information and empty the digital currencies. I have warned in the past about using these browser based crypto wallets. They may be convenient but they have a very poor track record for security. If you use one of these wallets you should read this:

Brexit Hotline

The Spanish government has a hotline to answer all queries from Brits living in Spain about the implications of Brexit, in English. Callers can ring 060 when in Spain or +34 902 887060 if calling from abroad and an automated system will offer the choice of either Spanish or English.
You will then be offered a choice of information on the different issues.
The service also offers the option of speaking to an operator for those requiring further information or with a specific query not dealt with by the automated options. Source: https://www.thelocal.es/20200218/spain-launches-dedicated-brexit-hotline
