Headlight Converters

I am taking our Spanish registered car to the uk in April and I will need headlamp converters to drive it in the the uk. Does anybody know if I can buy them in Torre del Mar. I know I can get them from Amazon but would like to buy locally if I can. Paul Competa

Tiny One Needs Home

tiny oneThis white little cutie of 2,5 month needs a loving home. We found her in an empty pool with no chance of getting out there by herself. Because of her poor condition she had to stay with the vet for a week. Back to strength she now is in a foster home, but cannot stay there for long. Please give her a chance and call Maribel on 657 538 612

Please note :- This the final post I shall print on the EU

(It is also, highly informative)   Jane

Leaving the EU

In response to the questions with regard to the UK leaving the EU:

Nobody can give you firm answers as no-one knows how it will play out.  It will be a step into the unknown.  How well it will work out depends on many things, not least how acrimoniousness the ‘divorce’ gets.  For what it’s worth here are some of the issues and my opinions.

  1.  Residence.  Spain encourages immigration from self supporting people from outside the EU, so I think it is highly unlikely that any of us will loose our residential status.  But if you haven’t got permanent residence it may become harder to get in the future.  This  may be the time to consider your status and regularize if need be.

  1. 2.  Work permits.  If you work I would have thought it highly likely you would need to get some sort of work permit in the future.
  2. 3.  Health cover.  If you have a green card through contributions you should be fine, if you have one on the pensioners ‘S1’ arrangement I am not sure what will happen.  Possibilities:
  3. a) England and Spain will reach a new agreement and all will continue as now
  4. b) those of us currently with green cards will retain them but there will be no new S1s
  5. c) All reciprocal arrangements will be cancelled and we will be left without cover in which case our options are

c1.  Pay for private health insurance

c2.  Some areas of Spain have allowed a limited ‘buy in’ to the health service, they may extend this

I think we just have to hope for the best, there are a lot of us and presumably neither country will want the chaos that will ensue from just cutting us loose.

But in particular the EHIC will probably cease to exist for UK residents in it’s current form,  so if you are here part time and rely on that you may well need insurance (as will all holiday makers)

  1.  Pensions.  Our state pensions increase annually as if we were in the UK.  It will be entirely up to the UK & Spain whether or not  they negotiate to continue this.  e.g. UK pensions do not increase in Canada, but they do in America.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/state-pensions-annual-increases-if-you-live-abroad/countries-where-we-pay-an-annual-increase-in-the-state-pension

  1.  Exchange rates.  Current popular opinion seems to be a much weaker pound, at least in the short term, so fewer Euros for your pension.

Of course a weaker pound means if you decide to sell up and go back your Euros will convert to more pounds.

  1. Driving licences.  You can exchange a current UK licence for a Spanish one, if you plan to stay and haven’t done that this may be the time as it may not apply if we leave the EU, you may have to take a test.
  2. Wills.  The new EU legislation which allows us to make UK law wills in Spain will continue to apply as it is not restricted to citizens of EU countries.

So, if the UK leaves it seems likely to me our ‘place in the sun’ will still welcome us but we will have to pay more for the privilege.

Perhaps this is the time to look at how you live here and get on and regularise your situation while we are still EU citizens and things are a bit easier.  Hope this helps (sorry it’s so long )

Whatever, we are all in it together,  Margaret

Services Casa Magel B & B & Camino del Rey

I would just like to make it clear that we ourselves do not hold tickets for the Camino Del Rey.

We can, the same as any other person, go to our local tourist office and apply for tickets for the walk. We have to take the passport number and personal details of those who want to do the walk, we then go back 2 days before the walk is due to collect the stamped papers that will allow you to do the walk. Each person has to have their passports or identity cards with them to prove who they are before they take the walk.

We as a business offer to do all the paperwork for our clients, we do not make any profit from this service.

We think that a 2 night B&B stay with nice food and wine in lovely peaceful surroundings is worth 100€, we offer to try to get tickets as an incentive.

All our clients have been extremely satisfied with their stay at Casa Magel and we welcome future clients, whether we get them tickets or not.

They both were asking 30-50 euro’s just to come to look at it and then say they can’t repair it… wanna give it one more try as the problem doesn’t seem to be that difficult. An illustrated Lecture in English by Caroline Rayman

Three great families and their gardens: a history of the Astors, the Rothschilds and the Sackville Wests

The Jonathan Anderson Memorial Lecture

Tuesday February 9th 2016

The Cultural Centre, Casa Cultura, Calle Granada, Nerja

6pm to 7.15pm

Visitors €10

Three Great Families and their Gardens is the story of three very different, but hugely successful families, the Sackville Wests, the Astors and the Rothschilds. The Sackville Wests have been part of the establishment since Tudor times and the other two families are wealthy immigrants who came to England in the l9th century. The talk traces the history of the families, discusses their contribution to life in England and celebrates the splendid gardens that they have created.

About Caroline Rayman

Caroline Rayman has lectured for many years to universities and art organisations in America and on cruise boats. She was an official guide at the British Museum and has published articles on samplers. Her lectures range from the role of the royal mistress in history to more scholarly lectures like on Frederick the Great of Prussia.
