Halting Erosion using Vetiver
From Vetiver Spain in Sayalonga
Our Nursery is open by appointment depending on the current travel restrictions. Please email or call first. We have Moringa seedlings, Organic Moringa powder and Comfrey plants. We also have some local trees and some exotic trees from Africa.
Vetiver is a rapid growing and non-invasive sterile clump grass with a height of 1-2 metres and a root system of 3-4 metres in depth. We have been providing Vetiver throughout the EU for almost 10 years now. We are located in Sayalonga where we can plant year round but our best results by far start in February. The reason is that Vetiver is indigenous to India and Vetiver loves the heat of the summer. Use Vetiver cuttings as mulch around all of your fruit trees. Decomposing Vetiver improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away all while helping to maintain soil moisture.
Vetiver is a nutritious and replenishable animal fodder. Horses and pigs love it. We use it in our chicken pens replacing hay because it stops mites.
In the 2 photos below you will see land prepared for Vetiver and the results 2 years later.
We also use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive ornamental hedge.
Here is a link to a short video showing the results.
https://youtu.be/rjTmb_LL2uo
We suggest planting now, as this is the BEST time of the year to plant.

Recommendations & Requests
Vaccine Certificates: Thanks to everyone for replying to my previous post about vaccine certificates.
The solution:
Download the Salud Andalusia app
Select: Certificados COVID-19
Select: Vacunation
Select: Datos personales y verificación móvil
Then enter the information:
AN number (you can get this from the appointment card)
Document type and number* (NIE or Passport / others)
Date of birth
Telephone number
The information must match exactly the information on the system!
*Here’s where we had a problem. My document was a UK passport and it kept saying the information was incorrect without specifically identifying what was wrong. We checked with the local health centre and they informed us you need to add a 0 (zero) to the front of the 9 digit UK passport number! (how silly of us not to realise, haha). I understand there is not a problem when using your NIE as the identifying document – but you have to use whichever document they have on the system for you … in our case a UK passport.
Once the info is accepted as correct you’ll receive a text message with a code – enter code and hey presto you are in and you can download the certificate (although in my case it took a number of attempts).
Hope this helps others having difficulty.
Feel free to email me should anyone need further help.

Covid Malaga- The rate continues to rise in Malaga, with almost 300 infections and one death for the second day running: {Translation} Updated: 29 June, 2021, 13:44.
-Contrary to the evolution in Andalusia, the cumulative incidence of the coronavirus continues to grow in Malaga and has now increased for more than three weeks. Although with occasional decreases, the upward trend is clear since the beginning of June when the province entered in high risk of spread of Covid to exceed the limit of 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. As of this Tuesday, according to updated data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA), the rate is 171.8. It has risen 1.7 points in the last day, after the 12 points climbed after the weekend.
-Also in the capital of Malaga, the rate has risen one more day, to 175.5 cases in the last 14 days, nine points more than the previous day. With this, the city is ahead of the provincial average, which in turn exceeds the regional rate by eight points, which stands at 163.8. In the case of Andalusia, this indicator fell by four tenths of a point on Tuesday, the eleventh consecutive day.
-The rate at which the number of infections is increasing is not slowing down either. Although this day the number of new infections is a few less than yesterday (only 24, taking into account that they were accumulated data for the whole weekend), the figure is close to 300 cases for the second consecutive day. Specifically, the province of Malaga has 272 Covid positives, compared to the 296 recorded on Saturday and Sunday. Once again, it is the Andalusian province with the most cases.
-On this Tuesday registered one more death in Malaga due to the virus, which brings to 1,671 the number of deaths in the province of Malaga since the outbreak of the pandemic. In Andalusia, seven deaths have been recorded in the last day (Seville and Jaen have two each, while Cadiz and Cordoba have one each). Andalusia to “slow down” Covid vaccination of 30-year-olds in July as half the number of doses will be given to them: {Translation} Updated: 29/06/2021, 16:46
-In July there will be a “slowdown” in the pace of vaccination against Covid-19 in Andalusia, which until now was going faster than in other autonomous communities, as announced this Tuesday by the Minister of Health and Families, Jesús Aguirre. The reason for this is that 1,575,920 doses will arrive in July from different laboratories. This is less than half the number of vaccines that the autonomous community will receive this June (3,467,100 doses).
-As a result, there will be a “slowdown” in the vaccination of those under 35 years of age. Those in their thirties will be the main group affected by this halt.
-Right now, Andalusians born in 1985 are being vaccinated, i.e. those aged 36. Andalusia has closed the schedule of appointments for groups under this age since last week to administer the second doses.
-Aguirre explained that “there will be a significant drop in the arrival of vaccines in the following weeks”. No doses from AstraZeneca will arrive in July, because by then all the second injections will have been given to the 60-69 age group. Nor will there be any doses from Janssen because there has been “a contamination problem”.
-The minister said that they will start calling Andalusians aged 33 to 35 “throughout this month and next month” because the availability of vaccines will be lower and a second dose will have to be reserved for those who had their first injections beforehand. “If 50% less than the 580,000 doses from Pfizer are going to arrive and the second dose has to be administered 21 days later, I have to slow down a little and keep it on stand-by,” he said.

Coronavirus infections soar in the age group between 15 and 29 years old in Spain: Andalucía plans to bring forward the vaccination of the under-30s due to the risk of outbreaks among young people.
The number of coronavirus infections has skyrocketed in the age group between 15 and 29 years in recent weeks, with the ‘macro outbreak’ originating in Mallorca due to end-of-year trips being the prime example with close to a thousand people infected.
Regional government sources said, “At the moment there is nothing agreed, but the matter is on the table,” who admit that the ‘macro outbreak’ in is worrying the Junta, that wants to avoid at all costs the possibility of something similar happen in Andalucía. SPAIN
New Coronavirus outbreak in Spain- how it started and what is happening now: Over 1,000 people in eight regions have tested positive after traveling to Mallorca on student trips. More than 200 youths have been quarantined on the island, leading to claims of ‘kidnapping’
Parties in hotel rooms, outdoor drinking sessions, cruises and a crowded reggaeton concert in Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands. These are some of the hotspots of the coronavirus outbreak that has led to more than 1,000 cases in eight Spanish regions, and forced more than 2,000 people to quarantine in Madrid alone. There are related cases in Galicia, the Valencia region, the Basque Country, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha, Aragón and Catalonia.

US Travelers Now Can Enter Spain Even If They Are Not Vaccinated: Updated: June 28, 2021.
-The Spanish authorities have announced that travelers from the US will now be able to enter the country without being subject to the testing and quarantine requirements, regardless of their vaccination status.
-Effective immediately, the new measure applies to all US citizens who do not visit any other country before arriving in Spain. Nonetheless, it should be noted that connecting flights without leaving the airport are still allowed.
-Now that travelers from the US no longer need to undergo COVID-19 testing or stay self-isolated upon their arrival in Spain, the only requirement they have to follow is to fill out a Health Control Form. The government will repopulate sparsely populated villages in Castile-La Mancha with migrants: {Translation, summary}
-The Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, has assured that he thinks the idea of repopulating empty Spain with migrants is “very good”, after receiving proposals from the Junta de Castilla y León and some town councils.
-“I think it’s very good, it’s an idea that we have in our heads”, Escrivá stressed on Monday at a breakfast briefing at Nueva Economía Forum, when asked about a letter sent by the vice-president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Francisco Igea, with a proposal to repopulate the towns with migrants.
-“The model we have, which tends to extend, through different channels, sometimes purely administrative burdens, to enormously extend the period of this irregularity, this generates unacceptable pockets of submerged economy that we have to redirect”, said the minister.
-In this regard, he stressed the importance of “adequately training” young migrants arriving in Spain so that in the short or medium term they can join the labour market, especially in the middle of the decade, when “a large workforce will be needed due to the retirement of the baby boomers”.
