Justice orders the Government to investigate Pedro Sánchez’s involvement in the rescue of Air Europa: {Translation, summary}
– The Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM) has ordered the Office of Conflict of Interests to accept and investigate a complaint filed by the Popular Party (PP) against Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The complaint concerns the government bailout of Air Europa and the business activities of Sánchez’s wife, Begoña Gómez.
– Previously, the Office of Conflict of Interests dismissed the complaint, stating Sánchez’s wife had no advisory or managerial role in the company and thus no conflict of interest existed. However, the TSJM ruled that the complaint must be processed with proper investigation before any decision, emphasizing that the PP was entitled to challenge the dismissal due to insufficient investigative action.
– The PP welcomed the ruling, arguing that Sánchez improperly directed public funds to a company linked financially to his wife and called for a full investigation. This judicial decision compels the Spanish government to investigate the alleged conflict of interest involving the prime minister. Massive protest of judges and prosecutors in defence of judicial independence coming “under threat”: {Translation, summary}
– On June 11, 2025, judges and prosecutors across Spain held a massive protest at judicial headquarters to denounce threats to judicial independence posed by recent government reforms. They criticized two legislative initiatives: the Bolaños Law, which lowers standards for entering judicial and prosecutorial careers by removing essential training content and introducing subjective tests, and a reform increasing the Attorney General’s powers, allowing government-appointed prosecutors to oversee investigations without safeguards. The protesters condemned the creation of a government-controlled training centre and the conversion of substitute judges and prosecutors into permanent positions without aptitude tests. Signed by four major judicial and prosecutorial associations, the manifesto warned these reforms occur amid ongoing attacks on the judiciary and Public Prosecutor’s Office, undermining public trust and facilitating abuses of power. They stressed that a strong, independent judiciary and prosecution service are vital democratic guarantees. The groups demanded the withdrawal of both reforms and warned that failure to do so could lead to intensified conflict measures, including strikes. MALAGA PROVINCE

Some farmers in Malaga province still without water seven months after devastating floods:
– Almost seven months later, the major damage has been repaired in most of the municipalities, but the problem continues in the countryside. In the area of the Benamargosa river valley, around 500 hectares of land are still without water from the La Viñuela reservoir, as the floods destroyed several large irrigation pipes.
– The two farming communities most affected are those of the Benamargosa valley and the Benamargosa river, which together have some 1,300 hectares of cultivated area, mainly of subtropical crops (avocados and mangoes), although there are also numerous citrus and horticultural crops.
– The damaged pipes run from El Trapiche (Vélez-Málaga) to La Zubia, which belongs to Cútar, along a route of more than twelve kilometres, known as Ribera Tropical. The repairs will entail an investment of around four million euros, three of which correspond to the Benamargosa river community and one to the valley community, according to Alfredo Moreno, spokesman for the Platform in Defence of Agriculture in La Axarquía. MALAGA CITY

Feijóo and Juanma Moreno call a new demonstration against Sánchez in Malaga on Sunday, June 15: {Translation, summary}
– After the “success” of the Mafia or Democracy rally, where around 100,000 people gathered in Madrid’s Plaza de España to protest against the practices of Pedro Sánchez’s government and the revelation of the socialist “cloacas” (dirty tricks); the president of the Andalusian regional government, Juanma Moreno, and the leader of the Popular Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, have decided to call a new demonstration in the Andalusian city of Málaga to give a voice to Andalusians who could not attend the event in the capital last Sunday.
– Specifically, the demonstration called by the Andalusian Popular Party will start at 11 a.m. this Sunday, June 15, at Málaga’s Carranque Pavilion under the slogan “Andalusia for Democracy.” “This Sunday you have an appointment in Málaga to defend democracy,” announced the PP of Andalusia on its official X account, with a poster confirming the attendance of the president of the Andalusian Popular Party and the national leader of the PP. GIBRALTAR

Spain will take the controls of passports at the port and airport of Gibraltar: {Translation, summary}
– Spain will implement passport controls at Gibraltar’s port and airport under a new UK-EU agreement, enabling the removal of the border fence between Gibraltar and La Línea. The deal, announced in Brussels, involves dual Gibraltar and Schengen controls, conducted cooperatively by EU and UK/Gibraltar authorities, eliminating border checks for daily cross-border commuters.
– Spain will handle full Schengen controls, dismissing the idea of Frontex agents during a transitional period, despite earlier UK and Gibraltar concerns about Spanish agents. UK controls in Gibraltar will remain unchanged, with agreements on visas, permits, and police cooperation.
– The agreement ensures free movement of people and goods, connecting Gibraltar to the Schengen area. Spain’s National Police will manage controls, and the airport will support commercial flights, benefiting the region. The UK clarifies that Gibraltar retains control over immigration and law enforcement, likening Spanish police roles to French operations at London’s St. Pancras station. Northern Irish rioters attack police in Ballymena, torch houses for second night:
– Hundreds of masked rioters attacked police and set homes and cars on fire in the Northern Irish town of Ballymena on Tuesday, in the second successive night of disorder that followed a protest over an alleged sexual assault in the town. Hundreds of protesters had gathered in Ballymena earlier on Monday after two teenage boys appeared in court that day, accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in the County Antrim town. 17 police officers were injured after a second night of rioting.
– Calm was restored to Ballymena, located 45 kilometres (28 miles) from the capital Belfast, at around 0100 local time (0000 GMT), police said.
– Officers in riot gear and driving armoured vans responded earlier with water cannon and non-lethal rounds, known as attenuated energy projectiles, after being attacked by petrol bombs, scaffolding and rocks that rioters gathered by knocking down nearby walls, a Reuters witness said.
One house was burned out. A number of cars were set on fire and one lay upside down in flames as police sirens blared throughout the town past midnight.
– The first night of rioting on Monday saw four houses damaged by fire, and doors and windows smashed in other homes and businesses, in what police said was being investigated as racially motivated hate attacks. Fifteen officers were injured. Photo: Clodagh Kilcoyne. Full article: https://www.reuters.com/world/northern-irish-rioters-attack-police-second-night-2025-06-10/

UK Government Announces £14.2 Billion Funding Boost For Sizewell C Nuclear Project:
– The UK government has announced a £14.2bn (€16.85bn, $19.26bn) investment in the Sizewell C nuclear power station on Tuesday (10 June), in a major move to boost the country’s clean energy supply, cut bills, and create thousands of new jobs.
– The announcement is central to what energy secretary Ed Miliband has described as a “golden age” of nuclear power in the UK, aimed at strengthening the nation’s energy security and cutting reliance on fossil fuel imports. “We need new nuclear to deliver a golden age of clean energy abundance, because that is the only way to protect family finances, take back control of our energy, and tackle the climate crisis,” said Miliband. “We will not accept the status quo of failing to invest in the future and energy insecurity for our country.” Full article: https://www.nucnet.org/news/uk-government-announces-gbp14-2bn-funding-boost-for-sizewell-c-nuclear-project-6-2-2025

Downtown L.A. is under curfew after protest turmoil:
– Following four days of escalating protests that defaced landmarks and damaged property in downtown L.A., Mayor Karen Bass imposed a regional curfew on Tuesday in an effort to restore order. The curfew is in place from 8pm until 6am across most of downtown Los Angles.
– The curfew footprint is from the 5 Freeway to the 110 Freeway and from the 10 Freeway to where the 110 and 5 freeways merge. The remainder of the city is not subject to the curfew.
– Mayor Bass and L.A. Police Chief Jim McDonnell have both said that the curfew will be strictly enforcement and those in violation will be arrested. “I am exercising my mayoral powers to implement a curfew within Downtown Los Angeles,” said Bass. “If you do not live or work in Downtown L.A., avoid the area. Law enforcement will arrest individuals who break the curfew, and you will be prosecuted.”
– As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, 25 protesters had been arrested in downtown L.A. on suspicion of violating curfew, according to an LAPD spokesperson.
– Riot arrests. L.A. police made 27 arrests on Saturday, 40 on Sunday and more than 100 on Monday, police said. A further 205 protesters were arrested Tuesday before Bass declared the curfew at 5:30 p.m. People were arrested for an array of alleged crimes including failure to disperse, throwing a Molotov cocktail at an officer, driving a motorcycle into a line of officers, destruction of property and looting.
– “Many businesses have now been affected by vandalism,” said Bass on Tuesday. “Last night there were 23 businesses that were looted. If you drive through downtown, the graffiti is everywhere and has caused significant damages to businesses and a number of properties.”
– The move marked the first time since the 1992 Rodney King uprising that such a sweeping curfew had been enacted in Los Angeles. Full article: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-06-11/downtown-los-angeles-curfew-explainer

Elon Musk backs off from feud with Trump, saying he regrets social media posts that ‘went too far’:
– Elon Musk stepped back from his explosive feud with U.S. President Donald Trump, writing on X that he regrets some of his posts about his onetime ally and that they went “too far.” Early Wednesday morning, he posted “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
– Musk earlier deleted a post in which he claimed without evidence that the government was concealing information about the president’s association with infamous paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Meanwhile, other X posts that irritated Trump, including ones in which Musk called the spending bill an “abomination” and claimed credit for Trump’s election victory, remained live. Football News- Jenni Hermoso? No, thanks. Kiss cry-baby has become a football pariah, not invited to play for Spain’s Women’s Euro team: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish national team will make its debut on July 3 in the Women’s Euro, a continental title that the team has yet to win. Jennifer Hermoso will not be part of this tournament, as she was left out by coach Montse Tomé, who explained that she did not personally contact Jenni because she “has other players” who can handle that position. “Before announcing the Euro squad, I did not call her. Jenni Hermoso’s case is special. I know the RFEF has been in touch with her,” Tomé said during her appearance on El Larguero.
– The 23 players called up for the Women’s Euro do not include Jenni Hermoso, with no major surprises in the squad selection.
– In her interview with Manu Carreño, the coach also addressed a message Hermoso posted after being left out of the squad in May, where Jenni said she was “tired of hearing my name surrounded by so much falsehood” and noted that “there’s no need for detours when you can be straightforward.” “I’m not sure exactly what she meant; I don’t see my name there. I can understand that a player might be upset about not being called up when she feels she deserves to be. I always try to be respectful and have given her my reasons,” Tomé explained.
– The coach assured she has “a clear conscience”: “I know I have acted professionally. We have monitored Jenni’s performance with the help of information from her coaches.”
“I believe she is angry and needs to manage that. I spoke with her at the start of the season, and she hardly played. We have followed her progress with her club, and there is strong competition for her position,” Montse Tomé concluded.
– Jenni is currently living in Mexico, playing for Liga MX Femenil in the women’s Mexican football league. Luis Rubiales, the planter of the famous kiss, is currently conducting international business as usual, and is appealing the kiss guilty verdict despite having received no jail time. Hollywood is currently working on a film about the life of Luis Rubiales, on which he is consulting. {So how’d that work out for you Jenni? -Ed.}

It’s official- your Intel Mac won’t get macOS 27, with macOS Tahoe 26 marking the end of an era:
– If you’ve got a Mac with an Intel CPU, we now know that macOS Tahoe 26 is the end of the line for your device.
– TechRadar can confirm that information on Intel compatibility was provided at the WWDC Platforms State of the Union keynote, and macOS Tahoe will be the last version of Apple’s desktop OS to support any Mac with an Intel processor.
– Another way of putting this is that when macOS 27 arrives next year, it will only support Macs with Apple chips inside.
– However, while Intel Macs that can run macOS Tahoe 26 will be stuck with that operating system, those machines will continue to get security updates for a further three years.
