Holy Week is commonly known as “la Mananta”, presents the processions of biblical figures from the Old and New Testament. These are dressed in period costume and carry the martyrs or identifying attributes and are shrouded in veils. The Roman soldiers and centurions wear helmets in a live representation of the Bible. The biblical figures, currently of the Corporations (Groups governed by statutes and that have houses, known as Cuarteles [residences], where they get together all year and especially during Lent and Holy Week), accompany the processions that run from the Friday before Holy Week to Easter Sunday and they have existed since 17th century. These include the Roman Empire, which is noteworthy due to its number, martial nature, beauty of the costumes and original music marches.

Long Term Rental: 6-7 Month Rental in La Herradura
Do you know anyone who is interested in finding a very special sublet from March-September? Perhaps you’ve heard good things about La Herradura and would like to experience it first-hand before pursuing a longer term rental or purchase? My villa offers exceptional, unobstructed views to the sea, as well as a very quiet location on the Punta de la Mona. The villa is equipped with everything one would want for a unique experience in comfort and peace as you watch the birds flying over head, and listen to the sea from the terraces and inside the home. We have a Berkey water filtration system so no need to be carting large plastic bottles of water. We also have a clothes dryer and high end appliances, in addition to quality utensils, cookware and tableware. We’ve tried to think of every convenience that would make for a very special experience. This 2 bedroom and 2.5 baths home is exceptionally well equipped with 2 hair dryers, spices in the cabinet, paper products, laundry detergent etc. The master bath is exceptionally well designed with a wonderful large soaking tub and separate, large modern shower. Both baths are ensuite with the half bath upstairs by the open concept kitchen livingroom/dining area. Staying here will feel like you’re moving into a good friend’s or family member’s home. There are 2 terraces with plantings so if one loves to garden, you’d be put at the top of the list although having a green thumb is not a requirement as the watering is on an automatic sprinkler system. The rent is 2000€ per month.
Serious inquiries only please. I would be happy to send along photos and there would be an opportunity to view the villa. Please don’t hesitate asking any questions. Michelle/La Herradura. I can be reached at

Internet: I live in Maro close to the Caves of Nerja. I receive internet from a Local supplier. Like the naughty girl, when it’s good it’s good, when it’s bad as all too often it is, it is useless. Has anyone living in my area found a provider who can consistently deliver reliable internet?

Bella Vista – New Restaurant Recommendation on Torrox Costa: Tried the new Bella Vista restaurant on the paseo in Torrox Costa yesterday, fabulous! Located at the bottom of Avenida America, it has amazing choices for the three-course Menu del Dia at 9.50 euros; we were a group of 7 so tried most of the 4 choices of starter, 5 main and 4 dessert, and all were delicious! Mains include hake, pork with pepper sauce, chicken with brandy sauce, spaghetti bolognese or beef burger. A la carte also available with a great range and good prices. We enjoyed delicious food, excellent service and of course a beautiful outlook to sea, and would all thoroughly recommend this lovely new venue. Stephanie / Torrox Costa

Temporary residency in Spain after Brexit: I am not sure if this subject has already been covered in the daily Digame Newsletter, if so I have missed it unfortunately. Has anybody gone through the process of applying for Spanish temporary residency this year on the Costa del Sol? I understand that if you plan to spend more than 3 months of the year in Spain from 2021 you need to apply for a special permit in 2020 and I am looking for any advice or information.
Look forward to hearing from you. I am based in Torrox. Deborah

Robbery in Torrox Update: On the off chance, I called into the ‘policia local’ in Nerja today to ask if my purse, that was stolen on Saturday night in Torrox, had been handed in. As soon as I gave my name the police man pulled out a big box containing loads of evidence bags and it was there. There clearly was no communication between Guardia Civil, who I reported it to, and the local police. It had been thrown on the road at Punta Lara. So thank you to whoever handed it in and for anyone else who has had their purse or bag stolen in may be worth going round the local police stations to ask, rather than to assume you will be contacted.

Scam Alert: The ‘virtual kidnapping’ scam that’s claimed at least 1,500 victims in Spain so far. Investigators have traced threatening phone calls to jailed criminals in South America who demand a quick ransom from victims, convincing them that their loved ones are in danger.
This is an extortion scheme in which criminals call a person – often randomly selected – and try to convince him or her that they have kidnapped a relative. They start out by demanding €10,000, then typically bring this amount down significantly, sometimes to €500. In the last five years, experts say that the criminals have perfected their technique. “Sometimes they exploit the fact that victims have shared personal information on social media, to make the story sound more credible,” says the Civil Guard expert. Cats: 5 cats, all under 1 year old, desperately need a home. Has anyone got a large space they could live in? They have been spayed and wormed. This is an urgent appeal because the residential home where they live in the garden are about to contact the town hall to go and catch them. Their lives are now in danger! 2 male tabby’s, 1 female tabby and 2 black, green eyed female cats. I can catch them and then what? I have 7 dogs who would kill them. Please save their lives.
