MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

COVID & MONKEYPOX

Monkeypox Spain- Health confirms the first death in Spain from monkeypox: Spain has reported Europe’s first monkeypox-related death of the current outbreak – and the second outside of Africa. The country’s health ministry confirmed the death on Friday, but did not release further details about the person.
– Brazil reported the first monkeypox-related death outside the African continent in the current outbreak, earlier on Friday.
– In its latest report, the Spanish health ministry said 4,298 cases had been confirmed in the country. Of the 3,750 patients it had information on, it said 120 have been hospitalised – accounting for 3.2% – and one has died, without providing further details. Covid Malaga- Nine new deaths as hospitalizations drop: {Translation, summary} July 29, 2022 15:39h
– Figures from the twice-weekly report issued by the Regional Ministry of Health show another nine deaths have been recorded with the virus. The rate has fallen by half compared to 15 days ago and there has been a significant drop in the number of hospitalised patients.
– There are currently 132 patients in Malaga’s hospitals, eight of whom are in intensive care. The figure represents a significant decrease compared to last Tuesday, when there were 155. This means 23 fewer patients admitted. However, it should be kept in mind that nine deaths have been recorded, so that the reduction is not only due to discharges, but also to these deaths. With 132 hospitalised patients, the province leads the autonomous community. It is followed by Seville with 112, Cadiz with 61, Cordoba with 59, Jaen with 57, Granada with 56, Huelva with 54 and Almeria with 47.
– Another positive aspect of the pandemic situation is that the rate has fallen by half since the middle of the month. At that time it stood at 616.8 positive over-60s per 100,000 inhabitants at the provincial level and now stands at 307.5. But this figure does not reflect the full picture either. The reason for this is that now only people over this age, pregnant women, patients at risk and patients showing serious signs are tested for the diagnosis. Moreover, since many cases are mild and are not even detected, this means that the statistical incidence is lower than the real one.

Covid Granada- Granada has 19 deaths from Covid-19 since Tuesday: {Translation, summary} 29/07/2022 15:24
– Covid-19 infections have risen slightly this Friday in Granada, when 238 positives have been counted in the last 72 hours, which is 38 more than on Tuesday.
– In the last 72 hours, 18 covid cases have been admitted to the hospital, none of whom have required admission to the Intensive Care Unit, leaving 56 patients in the hospital and five in the ICU.
– Nineteen more deaths since Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths due to the pandemic to 2,243. Source, Spanish: https://www.granadadigital.es/granada-suma-fallecidos-covid-19-coronavirus-martes/

Another heat wave is on its way to Spain: Another heat wave could be on its way according to meteorologists who say that temperatures could once again touch 45ºC in parts of the country.
The warning comes on Friday, July 29 after a week wherein temperatures eased slightly across most of the country whilst decidedly autumnal days were experienced in Huesca, Lérida or Castellón. These areas saw temperatures drop sharply and the winds blow, accompanied in some areas by heavy hail.
Although Thursday was the first day this July that the temperature did not exceed 40C anywhere in Spain, the nights have remained very warm. Full article: https://euroweeklynews.com/2022/07/29/warning-another-heat-wave-is-on-its-way-to-spain/

Rincón de la Victoria takes action due to the exceptional status of the  drought and shut the showers of the beaches from 1 August: {Translation, summary}
– The councillor for Beaches, Sergio Díaz (PP), has announced that “the critical situation in which we find ourselves, with water resources at a minimum, forces us to take an urgent decision. From Monday the showers in our municipality will be closed, with only the footbaths available”.
– The City Council is going to place informative stickers along the entire coastline where there are a total of 57 showers. “The water saving will be considerable since not everyone uses water responsibly, going so far as to use the showers for personal hygiene or cleaning beach equipment,” says Díaz. Easyjet pilots in Spain call nine days of strikes in August: (Updated 2:03pm, July 29) Easyjet pilots in Spain have called a nine-day strike for August to demand better the reestablishment of working conditions enjoyed before the pandemic.

– The strikes will take place in the form of three 72-hour walkouts on August 12, 13 and 14, then again on 19, 20 and 21, and finally on 27, 28 and 29. Full article: https://euroweeklynews.com/2022/07/29/final-three-days-of-easyjet-strikes-in-spain-called-off-by-the-unions/

FINANCIAL

Inflation in Spain climbs to 10.8% in July and marks a new record since 1984: {Translation}
– Inflation rose again in July to 10.8 % in annual terms, due to the rise in food, electricity and clothing and footwear, marking its highest level since September 1984.
– If this figure is confirmed on 12 August, it would mean an increase in inflation of six tenths of a percentage point, since in June this variation was 10.2 %, and would mark the highest rate in almost 38 years.
– This evolution has been due to the rise in food and non-alcoholic beverages and electricity (which became cheaper a year ago), as well as lower sales of clothing and footwear, despite the fall in fuel prices.
– Inflation maintains the upward trend that began in March 2021 and was only interrupted in January, when it moderated by 4 tenths of a percentage point to 6.1%, and in April, when it fell by one and a half points to 8.3%. Once the more volatile items in the shopping basket have been removed, core inflation stood at 6.1%, also six tenths of a percentage point higher than in June. If this figure is confirmed, it would be the highest since January 1993, according to the INE. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP, which allows comparisons with other European countries) stands at 10.8 %, eight tenths of a percentage point higher than that recorded the previous month. In monthly rate, its variation is -0.5 %. Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/1066581/la-inflacion-escala-al-108-en-julio-y-marca-un-nuevo-record-desde-1984/

SPACE

A triple meteoric spectacle is set to grace our skies this weekend:
This weekend, not one, not two, but three meteor showers are active at the same time – combining to provide a celestial firework display almost all through the night. Although the best night to watch will be the evening and night of Saturday (July 30) (through to dawn on Sunday morning), the three showers will be near their peak rates from tonight. Best of all, there’s going to be a new moon, which means there won’t be much glare spoiling the show. SPAIN

Banking giant Barclays to close all accounts of Brits living in Spain: {Full article from thelocal.es}
– Customers of Barclays Bank who are living in Spain and other EU countries have been receiving letters telling them that their UK accounts will be closed by the end of the year.
– A number of readers of The Local’s network of news websites have contacted us to report receiving either letters or messages in their online banking telling them that their accounts would be closed because of their residency in Spain or in other countries in the EU.
– A Barclays spokesperson told The Local: “As a ring fenced bank, our Barclays UK products are designed for customers within the UK.” “We will no longer be offering services to personal current account or savings customers (excluding ISAs) within the European Economic Area. We are contacting impacted customers to give them advance notice of this decision and outline the next steps they need to take.”
– Customers are being given six months to make alternative arrangements. The changes affect all personal current accounts or savings accounts, but do not affect ISAs, loans or mortgages.
– During the Brexit transition period Barclays closed Barclaycard accounts of customers in Spain, but did not indicate any changes to standard bank accounts.
– Around the same time several other British high street banks began closing accounts of British customers who live in the EU, although with the exception of Barclaycard customers in Spain who were largely spared.
– Many UK nationals who live in Spain maintain at least one UK bank account – in addition to a Spanish account – sometimes just for savings but others use their accounts regularly to receive income such as pensions or income from rental property or – for remote workers – to receive income for work done in the UK. Not having a UK bank account can make financial transactions in the UK more complicated or incur extra banking fees.
– Since Brexit, the UK banking sector no longer has access to the ‘passporting’ system which allows banks to operate in multiple EU countries without having to apply for a separate banking licence for each country. And it seems that many UK high street banks are deciding that the extra paperwork is not worth the hassle and are withdrawing completely from certain EU markets.
– When British banks began withdrawing services from customers in the EU back in 2020, a UK government spokesman told British newspaper The Times that “the provision of banking services is a commercial decision for firms based on a number of factors” so Brits in Spain probably shouldn’t hold their breath for any help from that direction. Article posted in full as the website blocks many visitors for some unknown reason: https://www.thelocal.es/20220728/banking-giant-barclays-to-close-all-accounts-of-brits-living-in-spain/

Cracking Down on Fake News- ETIAS Travel Authorization for EU Does Not Become Mandatory on January 1, 2023: With the date on which the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) becomes mandatory for travellers from about 60 world countries travelling to the European Union and Schengen Area countries approaching, the number of fake news regarding the new scheme is also increasing.
– In recent days, many online media, even some famous and widely-read international ones, have reported that the ETIAS will become mandatory on January 1, 2023, thus causing confusion amongst travellers who will need the ETIAS.
– The statement is not true, as the ETIAS is set to become fully effective only at the beginning of the fifth month of 2023, on May 1, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
– Americans, British citizens, Canadians, Albanians, Emiratis, and more will be subject to the ETIAS requirement nine months from now.
– According to SchengenVisaInfo.com, the ETIAS authorization application procedures will be simple and quick. Travellers will have to complete an online form with information regarding their identity, travel intention, and background security information.
They need to upload a scanned copy of their passport and a digital biometric photo. A fee of €7 is required, and the same should be paid online. Travellers are not required to go to an embassy, provide their fingerprints, or attend an interview, though such things may be required in extraordinary and very rare cases.
Every traveller who obtains an ETIAS will be able to use it for a period of three years or until their passport is no longer valid, whichever comes before. TECH

More Hack Attacks From The Cloud- New Ducktail Infostealer Malware Targeting Facebook Business and Ad Accounts: Facebook business and advertising accounts are at the receiving end of an ongoing campaign dubbed Ducktail designed to seize control as part of a financially driven cybercriminal operation.
“The threat actor targets individuals and employees that may have access to a Facebook Business account with an information-stealer malware,” Finnish cybersecurity company WithSecure (formerly F-Secure Business) said in a new report.
– The idea is to target employees with high-level access to Facebook Business accounts associated with their organizations, tricking them into downloading supposed Facebook advertising information hosted on cloud services Dropbox, Apple iCloud, and MediaFire. In some cases, the archive file containing the malicious payload is also delivered to victims through LinkedIn, ultimately allowing the attacker to take over any Facebook Business account.
– Facebook Business administrators are advised to review their access permissions and remove any unknown users to secure the accounts, delete any downloads associated with the unknown user, and then run a full system malware scan after the removal. EUROPE

Some Airlines Are Illegally Preventing Some EU Citizens From Travelling to UK: The Independent Monitoring Authority (IMA), a watchdog that monitors the rights of EU and Schengen Area citizens post-Brexit, has sent a letter to all carriers flying travellers from the EU to the UK, urging them to respect the Home Office’s guidance in this regard. Farmers in the Netherlands block entire highways as mass protests continue: Farmers in the Netherlands are continuing their mass protests, blocking entire highways with manure and by setting hay on fire, as reported on Wednesday, July 27.
– The mass farmers protests seen in the Netherlands are due to their outrage over new government regulations that will force them to reduce their nitrogen fertiliser compounds, leading to a reduced number of their livestock, ultimately causing bankruptcy in family-owned businesses.
– The farmers protests have since been seen in Poland, Italy, and Spain, after strikes in the Netherlands have led to many supermarkets running out of food, as the anti-government movement continues. Ryanair cabin crew strikes in Spain extended until 7 January: The USO and Sitcpla unions announced on Wednesday, 27 July, that they are extending the strike days, which began in July, until 7 January. The new strike call, for 24-hour stoppages, Monday to Thursday, weekly, will begin on 8 August.
– “Given that Ryanair has not shown the slightest attempt at rapprochement with the unions but, on the contrary, has publicly stated its refusal to engage in any dialogue with the elected representatives of its crew members, USO and Sitcpla have been forced to continue the strike and call new dates, after listening to the workers”, union officials said. These 28 Android Apps with 10 Million Downloads from the Play Store Contain Malware: As many as 30 malicious Android apps with cumulative downloads of nearly 10 million have been found on the Google Play Store distributing adware. “All of them were built into various programs, including image-editing software, virtual keyboards, system tools and utilities, calling apps, wallpaper collection apps, and others,” Dr.Web said in a Tuesday write-up.
While masquerading as innocuous apps, their primary goal is to request permissions to show windows over other apps and run in the background in order to serve intrusive ads. If you have any of these apps installed, uninstall them and then run a malware scan to clean up any leftover malware files. Halting Erosion Using Vetiver Grass from Vetiver Spain:
Vetiver Grass is a fast growing non-invasive clumping grass that grows to 2 metres in height. It has a root system that grows to 3-4 metres deep and they are very strong.
The National Geographic Magazine has called them “Roots of Steel”.
Once Vetiver is established it is drought resistant.
We are located in Sayalonga and we can plant all year round but February and March are the best months to plant Vetiver. Vetiver loves the heat of a long summer to get established.
Decomposing Vetiver used as a mulch, improves soil quality, keeps the weeds down and the insects away as it is a natural insect repellent. It is in the same family as Lemon Grass, which we also carry.
Vetiver also is a nutritious and replenishable animal feed. Horses, cattle, and pigs love it.
We use Vetiver along driveways and sidewalks. It also makes a great and inexpensive Ornamental hedge.

COVID & MONKEYPOX

Andalusia exceeds 300 cases of monkeypox, mostly in Malaga and Seville: {Translation} 26/07/2022 14:33
– Andalusia has exceeded 300 cases of monkeypox, according to the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs (Consejería de Salud y Consumo). The region reports 320 people infected on Tuesday, compared to the 273 cases reported last Friday, the last day on which the department offered data on the progress of the disease.
– For yet another week, the provinces of Malaga and Seville are the ones with the highest number of monkeypox infections. In the case of the Costa del Sol with 146, 45 percent of the total. The Andalusian capital has 80, 25 percent of those detected in Andalusia. Thus, the two together account for 70 percent of all the infections in the region.
– The next most affected provinces are Cadiz, with 41 positive cases; Granada, with 20; Cordoba, with 19; Huelva, with eight; Jaen, with four; and Almeria, with two. For yet another week, all Andalusian provinces have been affected by monkeypox, according to data from the Regional Ministry of Health.
– In addition, Andalusia has 78 people with possible contagion, extremes that are being analysed. In addition, 144 people have been cured of the disease without further sequelae and 165 suspected cases have been ruled out. Monkeypox- CDC says US leads globally in most known cases: More than 3,800 monkeypox cases have been reported in the US, the most of any country around the globe, government health data shows. The figure – which comes amid expanded testing in addition to the growing outbreak of the virus – is now ahead of that of Spain, where 3,105 cases have so far been reported. The two other countries with the highest number of infections, Germany and the UK, have reported 2,352 and 2,208 cases, respectively.

The spread of Covid in Andalusia falls to the lowest level in nearly five months: {Translation, summary} 26/07/2022 14:33
– The number of Covid-19 infections in Andalusia fell to 2,165 on Tuesday, a figure that confirms that the community remains in a phase of decline of the pandemic after weeks in which more than 7,000 cases of coronavirus were reported.
– This improvement in the number of infections is also reflected in the health pressure. Andalusia reported 705 patients admitted with coronavirus on Tuesday. This is 16 more than last Friday, but it is one of the lowest figures in recent weeks. It also means that the community is not increasing its hospitalised patients exponentially, as was the case until a couple of weeks ago.
– In the ICUs there has been an upturn, from 28 last Friday to 37 this Tuesday. However, the data must be put in context. The community had more than 700 people admitted and has a population of 8.5 million inhabitants.
– The number of deaths, with ups and downs, is also falling. On Tuesday Health reported 55 deaths, compared with more than 60 in mid-July. In total, 14,641 people have died since the start of the pandemic. Source, Spanish: https://sevilla.abc.es/andalucia/contagios-covid-andalucia-caen-cifra-baja-cinco-20220726131854-nts.html

SPAIN

Spain agrees to a voluntary reduction of 7% in gas consumption:
{Translation, summary}
– The Third Vice-President of the Government and Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, confirmed on Tuesday that Spain could voluntarily reduce its gas consumption by between 7% and 8%, as part of the Brussels plan to prepare for possible supply cuts by Russia and ensure supplies for next winter.
– “Support at all levels is going to be essential to achieve energy savings of around 7% or 8% of our gas consumption”, the Vice-President said at a press conference regarding the agreement reached by the EU-27 to reduce gas consumption by 15% until spring, with special exceptions, which opens the door to Spain lowering its gas savings ambition.
– This exception, which could cover countries that meet the criteria, such as Spain, Portugal and Italy, is included in the text of the regulation, which specifies that EU countries that have “infrastructures that allow gas to be transferred can significantly reduce their savings target”, the minister explained. This reduction in the ambition to save gas consumption would not be automatic, but rather member states would have to demonstrate that they meet a series of strict criteria, according to EU sources.
– In order to be able to apply this exception from the rule and reduce the ambition to cut gas consumption from 15% to 7%, countries must demonstrate that they can use their export capacity in case neighbouring countries need it and that they have made good use of their capacity to redirect liquefied natural gas to the rest of the EU market. Terral wind brings hottest night of summer, as yellow weather alerts cover much of Malaga province:
Updated Tuesday, 26 July 2022, 12:19
– The arrival of the local terral wind has led to what is already by far the hottest night in Malaga so far this summer. At 7am this Tuesday, 26 July, it was almost 34C in Torremolinos; nearly 33C at the airport and above 33C in the port of the capital, according to data provided by the Aemet meteorological centre in Malaga.
– But beyond the capital and its metropolitan area, it has been practically impossible to get to sleep without the help of air conditioning and fans along much of the coast. In Nerja the nightly low temp was 30C; and 32.7C in Benahavís. Slightly lower temperatures were registered in Alpandeire (28C) and Álora (28.6C).
– The capital and practically the whole province are under a yellow warning (except for Ronda), with a warning that it could exceed 40C in the interior of the Guadalhorce valley, and occasionally in Malaga city and Velez-Malaga it will be above 39C.
From Wednesday the Levante will return and the typical summer temperatures will return

A new forest fire in Mijas forces the motorway to be closed and houses to be evacuated: {Translation} , 26 July, 2022 16:29
– According to sources from the 112 emergency service, they began to receive calls from neighbours warning of the fire at 15:30 and firefighters from Infoca, Mijas and Fuengirola, civil guard, local police, civil protection and medical personnel have been deployed to the area.
– According to the Infoca, at first 32 forest firefighters, an operations technician, an environmental agent and six aerial vehicles were deployed in the area, including two ground loaders, a light helicopter, a medium-heavy helicopter, a Super Puma helicopter and a Kamov helicopter. A few minutes later, the Infoca has reported that it has expanded the device to 90 forest firefighters, among other technicians.
– In fact, the delegate of the Andalusian Government in Malaga, Carmen Casero, activated level 1 of the Emergency Plan for Forest Fires in Malaga at 16:40. This level is activated in those fires in which, although they can be controlled with the extinguishing means provided, it is estimated that, due to their possible evolution, it is necessary to implement measures for the protection of people and non-forest property.
– The fire broke out at kilometre 204, in the vicinity of the AP7 in Mijas. The mayor of Mijas, Josele González, explained to this newspaper that the fire has occurred in the mountains, but within the urban area, and confirmed that several urbanisations and houses have been evacuated, although it is still unknown how many residents have had to leave their homes. The fire has also forced the AP-7 to be closed to traffic in both directions between kilometres 201 and 214 due to smoke.
– According to González, the fire broke out in Lagar Martel, right next to the Vitania housing estate. “We are seeing what happens but with the day this is uncontrollable,” said the mayor mijeño clearly concerned and visibly angry at the proliferation of fires that are occurring in the municipality.
– In fact, this past Sunday there was another one barely a kilometre away. Thirty forest firefighters had to be called out to put it out. And on Friday 15th a large forest fire started in the Higuerón area of Mijas, which according to the first signs of the investigation, burnt nearly 2,000 hectares and forced the eviction of more than 2,000 homes in Alhaurín de la Torre and Alhaurín el Grande. – It was not the only earthquake recorded in recent days in the province. On Sunday and Monday, the IGN recorded two tremors in Fuengirola, of magnitude 2.8 and 2.5, respectively; both in the morning, at around 10.05 and 9.53.
– Tremors with an epicentre in the Alboran Sea have also been registered recently, according to the National Geographic Institute. Boris Johnson says he does not want to resign and will stay on if the membership backs him:
– Boris Johnson does not want to resign as prime minister and wants to fight the next general election as leader of the Conservative party, according to former party treasurer Lord Cruddas of Shoreditch.
– More than 10,000 Tory party members have put their name to a petition demanding that Johnson is included on the final ballot alongside Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss.
– The ‘bring back Boris’ campaign would reinstate Johnson as PM and, if the latest polls are to be believed (https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/poll-reveals-theres-a-new-favourite-for-next-tory-leader-and-its-not-who-you-might-think-330497/), could be quite a popular move.
– Speaking to the Mail, Lord Crudas slammed the ousting of Boris as prime minister by a minority of MPs. “It amounts to a coup. I am ashamed that this can happen in Britain, the birthplace of modern democracy”, he said. Over lunch at Chequers on Friday, Lord Cruddas of Shoreditch claimed Johnson told him he “wants to fight the next general election as leader of the party”.
– Johnson told him he was “enjoying following” his petition and “rooting for your campaign to succeed”, according to the reports.

EUROPE

Amazon, who made record profits for the past 3 years, to raise Prime prices up to 43% in Europe:
– Amazon.com Inc. will raise fees for its delivery and streaming service Prime in Europe by up to 43% a year, the online retailer said on Monday, as it moves to counter higher costs days before it reports quarterly financial results.
– The price hike, following one that Amazon announced for Prime in the United States in February, reflects mounting pressure from Wall Street on new Chief Executive Andy Jassy to shore up profit as inflation rises and a downturn looms.
– Shoppers in Germany, Amazon’s second-biggest market after the United States, will see fees for an annual Prime membership rise 30% to 89.90 euros ($91.88). The retailer’s No. 3 market, the United Kingdom, will have a 20% increase to 95 pounds ($114.47) per year, while Amazon sites covering Spain, Italy and France will charge Prime members between 39% and 43% more yearly.
– The changes take effect starting Sept. 15 when members join or next renew.
– It has increased prices for some merchants selling on its platform, too. In May, Amazon imposed an average 4.3% fuel and inflation surcharge on sellers storing and shipping their products in major European markets, following a similar move in the United States. Russia says it will leave the International Space Station after 2024: Russia will opt out of the International Space Station (ISS) program after 2024, the new chief of Russia’s federal space agency Roscosmos said Tuesday (July 26). Roscosmos leadership has been threatening to pull out of the International Space Station for months, stating that Western sanctions will “destroy” Russian cooperation aboard the orbital lab. While those threats have been numerous and inflammatory, they have yet to sound as definitive as the latest proclamation made by the new Roscosmos chief. “The decision to leave the station after 2024 has been made,” the current head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov, said. FINANCIAL

The IMF warns of the risk of a global recession and lowers the GDP forecast by 0.8 for Spain: {Translation, summary}
– The report ‘World Economic Outlook Update: Bleaker and More Uncertain’ published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has cut the growth forecasts made in its last study in April due to the consequences of the invasion of Ukraine and the inflationary spiral. In the case of Spain, the institution anticipates GDP growth of 4% for 2022 and 2% for 2023, a reduction of 0.8% and 1.3% respectively.
– This lowering of growth expectations poses “a particularly prominent recession risk for 2023” according to the report, when growth in a sizeable number of economies is expected to “bottom out.” Maintaining financial stability is one of the main challenges in the face of the new path of monetary policy, which will require reforms in the debt resolution frameworks, in the words of the IMF.
– Faced with steadily rising prices and their consequences for living standards across the globe, the institution points to controlling inflation as the main priority, with monetary policies that will entail costs for the economy in the short term, but will avoid greater evils in the long run. Given the limited government budgets after two years of the pandemic, the IMF sees only two possible paths: either raising taxes or cutting public spending.
– It also warns that if Russia decided to completely cut off gas supplies to Europe, for which the European Union is preparing by asking its members to reduce consumption by 15%, it would significantly increase inflation across the world through higher energy prices. In addition, this scenario could force Europe to force gas rationing, which would affect important industrial sectors and reduce Eurozone growth further in 2022 and 2023. Spain raises inflation forecast for 2022, lowers GDP growth target for 2023: Spain raised its inflation forecasts for 2022 and 2023 and lowered its economic growth target for 2023, Economy Minister Nadia Calvino said on Tuesday, citing the war in Ukraine for its continued negative impact on European economies.
– The inflation target was lifted to 7.8% in 2022 from a previous 6.1% projected in April.
– Driven by rising energy and food prices, annual inflation in Spain surpassed 10% for the first time in 37 years in June, forcing the government to raise its expectations for consumer prices. The National Police warns about scams when looking for a job using WhatsApp and social media: {Translation}
– It is very common that, when a person is actively looking for a job, they go to the internet every day to consult the different job offers that are posted on company websites or on specific job portals.
– Thus, cybercriminals also use these channels to steal information from users, publishing false job offers in which users register and enter their personal or even bank details.
– That is why the National Police has warned through its official Twitter account of these scams and has given several guidelines to try to prevent users from falling into the trap. “If you are looking for a job offer, be very careful if:
*They ask you for money or bank details
*You have to call a premium rate number.
*They offer a salary that is much higher than usual.
“If it meets all or any of these points, it is probably a scam,” the police concluded in their publication. Full article: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5034550/0/policia-nacional-advierte-estafas-hora-buscar-trabajo/

{Translation} The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, made public this Monday, 25 July, the composition of his new government, which increases the number of ministries from 11 to 13, with a female majority of seven women to six men at the head of the departments. AXARQUIA

AEMET activates the yellow warning for high temperatures in Axarquia for this Tuesday: {Translation}
– The prolonged heat wave that is affecting the Peninsula has not produced extreme temperatures in Axarquia. However, the latest forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) announce that the terral will return to the region this Tuesday.
– AEMET has activated the yellow warning in Axarquia for maximum temperatures of up to 36 degrees. Specifically, the warning will be active between 13.00 and 21.00 hours. The warning will also be active in other regions of the province such as Sol, Guadalhorce and Antequera. It should be remembered that the Antequera region was under an orange warning this Monday for maximum temperatures of 40 degrees and minimum temperatures close to 25 degrees, while the Serrania de Ronda is under a yellow warning for temperatures of 39 degrees, although in this area the mercury may occasionally reach 40 degrees.
– In the Axarquia, the most intense terral is expected in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The wind will turn east mid-morning, so the mercury will drop on the coast and in the eastern part of the region. The change in the wind will bring an increase in humidity and a feeling of heat to these areas, without ruling out fog banks on the coast, popularly known as taró. Meanwhile, in the centre of La Axarquía and in inland areas, the rest of the day will alternate moments of terral with others of less intense heat.
– According to AEMET forecasts by municipalities, this Tuesday 42 degrees are expected in Rincón de la Victoria; 40 degrees in Periana, Almáchar, La Viñuela, Benamargosa and Riogordo; 39 degrees in Benamocarra, Colmenar, Comares and Iznate; 38 degrees in Torrox and Algarrobo; 37 degrees in Frigiliana, Cómpeta and Alfarnate; and 36 degrees in Vélez-Málaga and Nerja. The thermometers will drop considerably from Wednesday onwards, although the tropical nights will continue.
– The AEMET forecasts low clouds for Tuesday, with intervals of low clouds and mist on the coast, without ruling out fog. Minimum temperatures will fall inland and remain unchanged on the coast; and maximum temperatures will fall, except in Sol and Guadalhorce, where they are expected to rise. Winds will be westerly, turning easterly in the afternoon in the eastern half of the province. Disabled British Drivers Warned That Their Blue Parking Badges Won’t Be Recognised In Some Popular EU Destinations + Other UK Traveler Updates:
– Disabled British nationals driving to some of the most popular summer holiday destinations in the European Union, including here France and Spain, have been warned that their blue parking badges will not be recognised due to the United Kingdom’s departure from the EU.
– While a total of 20 EU and Schengen Area countries continue to recognise the badge in spite of Brexit, the following 11 no longer recognise it:
Bulgaria, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg,
Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain (including the Balearic and Canary Isles).
– Travellers from the UK to the EU countries are also facing other difficulties, including higher roaming charges, border queues, as well as a limited period of stay in the bloc of only 90 days in any 180 days. This means that UK nationals, even those owning homes in the EU, are no longer eligible to stay there for more than three months, in any six months, in total. Even the types of foods that British citizens can bring with them to the EU are limited.
– Moreover, starting from May 2023, British citizens will also be subject to the requirement of applying for a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), before their trip to any of the EU countries, which will cost €7.

Britain forced to beg Belgium for power to keep the lights on:
24 July 2022, 5:02pm
– National Grid was forced to issue an emergency appeal to Belgium to keep Britain’s lights on as the market was roiled by surging prices ahead of a looming winter crisis.
– The power network’s electricity system operator (ESO) issued an emergency instruction to operators of the Nemo cable running between Belgium and the UK to make sure supplies were sent to Britain last week, after failing to secure enough in the normal market.
– Experts said it cast doubt on the Grid’s ability to cope during the “looming iceberg” of winter, when gas supplies are expected to be under far more severe pressure and Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, may cut off shipments to Europe altogether. Dr. Birx’s Bombshell Vaccine Admissions- “I Knew Vaccines Wouldn’t Protect Against Infection” & “Let’s be very clear, 50 percent of the people who died from the omicron surge were older and vaccinated.”:
– Former White House COVID response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx has admitted that she knew COVID-19 vaccines would not prevent infection.
– During the administration of President Joe Biden, intense pressure has been put on individuals to be vaccinated against the coronavirus on the grounds that they were the group responsible for spreading the virus — a “pandemic of the unvaccinated,” as Biden has put it. That philosophy underpinned vaccine mandates supported by the Biden administration that upended employers and the military.
– “This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” Biden said in December, according to PolitiFact. “The unvaccinated. Not the vaccinated, the unvaccinated. That’s the problem. Everybody talks about freedom and not to have a shot or have a test. Well guess what? How about patriotism? How about making sure that you’re vaccinated, so you do not spread the disease to anyone else.”
– PolitiFact ruled that claim as “Mostly False.”
– Bill Hanage, associate professor of epidemiology at Harvard, said Biden’s “statement is not accurate,” according to PolitiFact. “We knew that vaccinated people could become infected with delta and shed viable virus in large amounts,” Hanage said.
– Brooke Nichols, a health economist and infectious disease mathematical modeler at Boston University, said “vaccinated individuals can definitely infect other people. There is enough data to support this.” “When calling it a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated,’ though, it makes it sound as those vaccinated individuals aren’t substantially contributing to new cases – which they are [particularly now].”
– Birx, the coordinator of the White House Coronavirus Task Force under former President Donald Trump, said faith that the vaccines created a wall of protection was misplaced – and she knew it.
– Although noting that the vaccine does confer some protection from the virus, she added: “Let’s be very clear: 50 percent of the people who died from the omicron surge were older, vaccinated.”

ENERGY CRISIS

Gazprom to reduce Nord Stream gas deliveries to Germany by HALF this week: Russia’s Gazprom has said it was halting another turbine in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany and the flow of gas, already at just 40% of capacity, would fall by another half from Wednesday.
– The new blow to supply comes at a moment of high tension as Russia and the West exchange economic blows in response to Moscow’s actions in Ukraine. The European Union has accused Russia of resorting to energy blackmail, while the Kremlin says the gas disruption has been caused by maintenance issues and the effect of Western sanctions.
– Gazprom said output from Wednesday would fall to 33 million cubic metres per day – just half of the current, already reduced, supply. Full article: https://www.rte.ie/news/2022/0725/1312148-nord-stream-stoppage/

TRAVEL NEWS

Going to Spain? Make sure you have an international driver’s licence if you intend to drive: If you are visiting Spain from the UK and will be driving then you must be in possession of an international driver’s licence or you will be fined.
– On the weekend of July 24 reports online suggested that “British looking” drivers were being targeted on the Costa del Sol. Those reports go on to suggest that they weren’t just targeting residents who hadn’t exchanged their licence for a Spanish one, but that even if you were just a tourist you were being fined.
– The officers involved in issuing these fines are 100 per cent correct. Anyone from outside the EU who wished to drive in Spain must be in possession of an international driver’s licence, which of course now includes the UK. So if you want to be able to drive in Spain on a UK driver’s licence, and for that matter most other countries in the EU, then you do need to apply for one and bring it with you. Digital Authoritarianism- AI Surveillance Signals the Death of Privacy:
“There are no private lives. This a most important aspect of modern life. One of the biggest transformations we have seen in our society is the diminution of the sphere of the private. We must reasonably now all regard the fact that there are no secrets and nothing is private. Everything is public.” – Philip K. Dick (Dec. 16, 1928 – March 2, 1982)
– Nothing is private. We teeter on the cusp of a cultural, technological and societal revolution the likes of which have never been seen before. The government and its corporate partners, aided by rapidly advancing technology, are reshaping the world into one in which there is no privacy at all.
– Cue the rise of digital authoritarianism. Digital authoritarianism, as the Center for Strategic and International Studies cautions, involves the use of information technology to surveil, repress, and manipulate the populace, endangering human rights and civil liberties, and co-opting and corrupting the foundational principles of democratic and open societies, “including freedom of movement, the right to speak freely and express political dissent, and the right to personal privacy, online and off.” Full article: https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/digital_authoritarianism_ai_surveillance_signals_the_death_of_privacy

Watch Paul Simon (80) and Joni Mitchell (78) make surprise appearances at Newport Folk Festival: The legendary songwriters stole the show when they appeared as guests during sets that were originally scheduled as tributes to their musical legacies. Neither performer was listed on the bill or trailed in advance of the event.
– Coming out of retirement, however temporarily, Simon then joined a number of guests to perform some of the biggest songs in his extensive back catalog, including Graceland, The Boxer, Sound of Silence, and American Tune. During the latter, Simon performed using his Martin signature OM-42PS acoustic guitar.
– Meanwhile, Mitchell’s set on the Sunday (July 24) was perhaps the bigger surprise, featuring a 13 track setlist from an artist who has not performed a full show for more than 20 years. Bio Beach Restaurant- El Morche:
– Aloha to you all Digamites!! Today we’ll take you to Hawaii where the ocean breezes keep the residents cool!! Did you know that Hawaii moves 7.5cm closer to Alaska every year? This sounds like the plot of a science-fiction film, but it’s true. The Earth’s tectonic plates are in constant motion, driven by currents that rise and fall under them. Hawaii sits in the middle of the Pacific Plate, and due to this constant motion, it’s slowly shifting northwest in the direction of Alaska. Scientists estimate that these plates move at the same speed as the speed of growth of human fingernails.
– And did you know that Bio Beach Restaurant offers one of the most scrumptious and healthy Hawaiian popular dishes called Poke? You can choose from three different ones. So, why not treat yourself to a tropical delight followed by a selection of refreshing drinks while you enjoy the marine breezes on the restaurant’s lovely terrace? Give them a try!!
The Bio Beach Restaurant is located on the El Morche beachfront promenade right behind the church. We look forward to seeing you there! For more info contact norma2kk@aol.com

Monkeypox is officially a global health emergency- Spain with 3,500+ confirmed cases is most affected country in the world:
– The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the current outbreak of monkeypox a “public health emergency of international concern.” This is the second time in two and a half years that the agency has been forced to make this decision in the face of the spread of a disease, after having done so in early 2020 with Covid-19.
– Spain, with more than 3,500 confirmed cases, is the most affected country in the world, although the rapid growth in cases presented in the United States – which has already reported almost 3,000 infections, and has doubled the number of cases in a week – makes it foreseeable that it could soon become the epicenter of the international outbreak.
– The current outbreak has already caused more than 16,500 cases in 75 countries, most of them mild or very mild, since the first infections were identified in London in early May. Two weeks later, the virus was also detected in Lisbon and Madrid; this marked the beginning of a sustained increase that has not ceased. So far, according to the WHO, there have been five deaths in West Africa. Full article: https://english.elpais.com/society/2022-07-23/monkeypox-is-officially-a-global-health-emergency.html

USA

“Our national security is at stake” says US President Biden on Climate Changes:
– In a chilling Twitter post, US President Biden announced the security of the USA is at stake. “Climate change doesn’t care whether you’re in a red state or a blue state: Hundred-year droughts are threatening farmlands and water sources,” the Twitter post on Saturday, July 23 read. “Wildfires out west have burned and destroyed more land than the size of New Jersey.” “Our national security is at stake.”
– Followers of the president were quick to respond. One, who provided newspaper clippings to back her point up, said: “Yes, can we talk about those so called “Climate change induced” wildfires that were INTENTIONALLY set?” Full article: https://euroweeklynews.com/2022/07/24/our-national-security-is-at-stake-says-us-president-biden/

F1 News- Championship leader Verstappen wins French Grand Prix: Championship leader Max Verstappen eased to a comfortable win in the French Grand Prix on Sunday after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out while leading the race. Red Bull’s Verstappen cruised home over 10 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton whose Mercedes teammate George Russell overtook the Red Bull of Sergio Perez in the closing laps to claim third.
“That’s an incredible result for the team. Great job George,” said a jubilant Hamilton.
– Verstappen’s seventh win of the season takes him 63 points clear of Leclerc and strengthens his chances of claiming a second successive drivers’ title. Leclerc started in pole position and was leading up to the 18th lap when he crashed into the safety tyres, emerging without injury from his car. His teammate Carlos Sainz, who won the British GP, was in a good position to challenge for the podium before a surprising decision to bring him into the pits late in the race left him settling for fifth. Tennis News- Italian Musetti Outlasts Spain’s Alcaraz In Epic Battle: Lorenzo Musetti’s first ATP final nearly ended in bitter heartbreak. Instead it was jubilation for the 20-year-old unseeded Italian, who withstood an inspired comeback attempt from Carlos Alcaraz to claim his maiden title on a sunny Sunday in Hamburg, 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4. (This was the best tennis match I have seen in many years. Well worth tracking it down if you missed it. Two young men repeatedly pulling off insane acrobatic moves rarely even attempted by most players. -Ed.) Photo: TTV. Small Time UK Pirate IPTV Sellers Receive In-Person Warnings From Police Officers & FACT: Reasonable profits can be made from the sale of pirate IPTV subscriptions but there’s always a chance of drawing the wrong type of attention. According to the Federation Against Copyright Theft, several unlucky pirates were visited at their homes in the UK this week, where they were presented with cease-and-desist notices. The problem is that this type of offense is viewed as fraud, a criminal offense. The chances of getting caught are admittedly low but, for the unlucky minority, a criminal conviction could be life-changing. Targeting homes in Alcester, Solihull, and Birmingham, investigators and police officers served so-called ‘cease-and-desist’ notices requiring suspects of supplying illegal IPTV subscriptions to cease any illegal activity with immediate effect, or face more serious consequences.
– According to the Intellectual Property Office’s IP Crime and Enforcement Report 2020-21, FACT operations largely target lower-level offenders selling piracy-configued set-top boxes and IPTV subscriptions on social media. COVID & MONKEYPOX

Spain reaches 3,000 monkeypox cases:
{Translation} 21 July 2022, 13:41
– Spain remains the country with the highest number of monkeypox cases in the world. The Ministry of Health has notified the European health administrations of 2,835 infections, ahead of 2,115 in the United Kingdom and 2,033 in Germany, according to the latest weekly report of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published on Thursday. Moreover, the number of cases reported in Spain will continue to grow, as the statistics already managed by Carolina Darias’ department, with the new updates as of 19 July, bring the figure to 3,125.
– According to ECDC data, there are already 10,604 cases in the European Union, the continent most affected by the disease. Worldwide, the World Health Organisation has detected 14,000 cases, with Europe accounting for three out of four cases.
– According to the ECDC, most patients are male (99.5%) and aged between 31 and 40 years (42%). Among the most common symptoms of the disease were rash (94.5%) and fever, fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, chills, sore throat or headache (65%). Eight per cent of the patients were hospitalised and one of them required intensive care. So far, no deaths have been reported. In addition, 31 infections have occurred in health care workers.
– In its new report, the Ministry of Health warns that, although most of the infections have occurred “in the context of high-risk sexual relations” between men, there is a possibility that transmission “could shift to other population groups”, which could lead to “serious cases in vulnerable populations”. In this regard, the Community of Madrid confirmed on Wednesday a case of monkeypox in a seven-month-old baby whose parents were infected. All three members of the family have been vaccinated and are in good health, although the baby is being kept in isolation at home. The Madrid Ministry of Health stressed that this is a one-off case due to the coincidence of the infection in the baby’s parents and that the transmission occurred during their care.

Price of gas falls sharply after the reopening of the Russian Nord Stream: The Russian gas company Gazprom has restored this Thursday the gas supply through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline after being stopped for ten days for maintenance work, as reported by an infrastructure spokesman to the German agency DPA. The energy market breathes a sigh of relief, at least temporarily, and prices relax by more than 5% after Moscow’s decision. Get those old people out of their big empty houses – OECD calls for housing taxes to keep pace with prices, higher taxes on 2nd homes & non-occupied properties: {Translation}
– The price of housing has been rising steadily in recent years, but taxes on this asset have remained more or less stable, resulting in an “unfair and inefficient” system, according to a report by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). “Revenues from housing taxes have not kept pace with price increases,” the document published on Thursday reveals.
– The organisation, which brings together 38 countries, including Spain, believes that housing taxation should be revalued in line with market prices so that it does not fall behind, causing prices to escalate and making it more difficult for young people and the poorer classes to afford housing.
– The report ‘Housing taxes in OECD countries’ reveals that when the tax bases of these property taxes are not updated to prices, “distortions” are generated with taxpayers who are suffering the price rises because they are starting to access the market.
– As a result, older households have no incentive to move into smaller, less valuable homes and free up space in larger homes for younger families, the organisation explains. Low tax burdens arising from obsolete values “reduce incentives to use the housing stock efficiently”, as owners of undervalued homes are pushed to remain in them.
– This is not just a Spanish problem. The OECD points out that there are some countries that do reassess their housing taxes on a regular basis, such as Norway, New Zealand and Lithuania. However, the majority of European partners do not do so: Austria has not reviewed this taxation since 1973, Belgium since 1975, France since 1970 and Germany since 1964. One of the European powers – although already outside the EU – that most recently reviewed this system was the United Kingdom, in 1991.
– In the case of Spain – whose property tax is the IBI, Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles – it is in the OECD average in terms of property taxation, the report confirms.
– The OECD sets out a series of recommendations to improve the fairness of the tax, but also the extra revenue that countries would obtain thanks to the revaluation of these taxes. “Collecting taxes on outdated values reduces horizontal equity because households of similar value may not have similar tax liabilities, and also vertical equity because more valuable households may not pay more tax” as the years go by, the organisation says.
– In addition, they recommend higher taxes on second homes and non-owner-occupied dwellings. Source, Spanish: https://www.canarias7.es/economia/fiscalidad/ocde-impuestos-vivienda-20220721114846-ntrc.html

FINANCIAL

European Central Bank Raises Interest Rates For The First Time In 11 Years As Global Inflation Surges:
– In a statement on Thursday, the ECB said it would raise rates by 50 basis points as a “key step to make sure inflation returns to its 2% target over the medium term”, coming in at the higher end of expectations calling for an increase of at least 25 basis points.
– Officials also signaled additional hikes to come, saying “further normalization” of interest rates will be appropriate, though they suggested the larger hike on Thursday will allow them to move more slowly with future increases, adding: “The frontloading today…allows the Governing Council to make a transition to a meeting-by-meeting approach to interest rate decisions.” The decision comes after data showing inflation in the United Kingdom skyrocketed 9.4% in June, hitting a new 40-year high and surpassing similarly high inflation of 9.1% in the United States.
