The National Police warns about scams when looking for a job using WhatsApp and social media: {Translation}
– It is very common that, when a person is actively looking for a job, they go to the internet every day to consult the different job offers that are posted on company websites or on specific job portals.
– Thus, cybercriminals also use these channels to steal information from users, publishing false job offers in which users register and enter their personal or even bank details.
– That is why the National Police has warned through its official Twitter account of these scams and has given several guidelines to try to prevent users from falling into the trap. “If you are looking for a job offer, be very careful if:
*They ask you for money or bank details
*You have to call a premium rate number.
*They offer a salary that is much higher than usual.
“If it meets all or any of these points, it is probably a scam,” the police concluded in their publication. Full article: https://www.20minutos.es/noticia/5034550/0/policia-nacional-advierte-estafas-hora-buscar-trabajo/

AXARQUIA
AEMET activates the yellow warning for high temperatures in Axarquia for this Tuesday: {Translation}
– The prolonged heat wave that is affecting the Peninsula has not produced extreme temperatures in Axarquia. However, the latest forecasts of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) announce that the terral will return to the region this Tuesday.
– AEMET has activated the yellow warning in Axarquia for maximum temperatures of up to 36 degrees. Specifically, the warning will be active between 13.00 and 21.00 hours. The warning will also be active in other regions of the province such as Sol, Guadalhorce and Antequera. It should be remembered that the Antequera region was under an orange warning this Monday for maximum temperatures of 40 degrees and minimum temperatures close to 25 degrees, while the Serrania de Ronda is under a yellow warning for temperatures of 39 degrees, although in this area the mercury may occasionally reach 40 degrees.
– In the Axarquia, the most intense terral is expected in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The wind will turn east mid-morning, so the mercury will drop on the coast and in the eastern part of the region. The change in the wind will bring an increase in humidity and a feeling of heat to these areas, without ruling out fog banks on the coast, popularly known as taró. Meanwhile, in the centre of La Axarquía and in inland areas, the rest of the day will alternate moments of terral with others of less intense heat.
– According to AEMET forecasts by municipalities, this Tuesday 42 degrees are expected in Rincón de la Victoria; 40 degrees in Periana, Almáchar, La Viñuela, Benamargosa and Riogordo; 39 degrees in Benamocarra, Colmenar, Comares and Iznate; 38 degrees in Torrox and Algarrobo; 37 degrees in Frigiliana, Cómpeta and Alfarnate; and 36 degrees in Vélez-Málaga and Nerja. The thermometers will drop considerably from Wednesday onwards, although the tropical nights will continue.
– The AEMET forecasts low clouds for Tuesday, with intervals of low clouds and mist on the coast, without ruling out fog. Minimum temperatures will fall inland and remain unchanged on the coast; and maximum temperatures will fall, except in Sol and Guadalhorce, where they are expected to rise. Winds will be westerly, turning easterly in the afternoon in the eastern half of the province. Disabled British Drivers Warned That Their Blue Parking Badges Won’t Be Recognised In Some Popular EU Destinations + Other UK Traveler Updates:
– Disabled British nationals driving to some of the most popular summer holiday destinations in the European Union, including here France and Spain, have been warned that their blue parking badges will not be recognised due to the United Kingdom’s departure from the EU.
– While a total of 20 EU and Schengen Area countries continue to recognise the badge in spite of Brexit, the following 11 no longer recognise it:
Bulgaria, France, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg,
Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain (including the Balearic and Canary Isles).
– Travellers from the UK to the EU countries are also facing other difficulties, including higher roaming charges, border queues, as well as a limited period of stay in the bloc of only 90 days in any 180 days. This means that UK nationals, even those owning homes in the EU, are no longer eligible to stay there for more than three months, in any six months, in total. Even the types of foods that British citizens can bring with them to the EU are limited.
– Moreover, starting from May 2023, British citizens will also be subject to the requirement of applying for a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), before their trip to any of the EU countries, which will cost €7.

Britain forced to beg Belgium for power to keep the lights on:
24 July 2022, 5:02pm
– National Grid was forced to issue an emergency appeal to Belgium to keep Britain’s lights on as the market was roiled by surging prices ahead of a looming winter crisis.
– The power network’s electricity system operator (ESO) issued an emergency instruction to operators of the Nemo cable running between Belgium and the UK to make sure supplies were sent to Britain last week, after failing to secure enough in the normal market.
– Experts said it cast doubt on the Grid’s ability to cope during the “looming iceberg” of winter, when gas supplies are expected to be under far more severe pressure and Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, may cut off shipments to Europe altogether. Dr. Birx’s Bombshell Vaccine Admissions- “I Knew Vaccines Wouldn’t Protect Against Infection” & “Let’s be very clear, 50 percent of the people who died from the omicron surge were older and vaccinated.”:
– Former White House COVID response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx has admitted that she knew COVID-19 vaccines would not prevent infection.
– During the administration of President Joe Biden, intense pressure has been put on individuals to be vaccinated against the coronavirus on the grounds that they were the group responsible for spreading the virus — a “pandemic of the unvaccinated,” as Biden has put it. That philosophy underpinned vaccine mandates supported by the Biden administration that upended employers and the military.
– “This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” Biden said in December, according to PolitiFact. “The unvaccinated. Not the vaccinated, the unvaccinated. That’s the problem. Everybody talks about freedom and not to have a shot or have a test. Well guess what? How about patriotism? How about making sure that you’re vaccinated, so you do not spread the disease to anyone else.”
– PolitiFact ruled that claim as “Mostly False.”
– Bill Hanage, associate professor of epidemiology at Harvard, said Biden’s “statement is not accurate,” according to PolitiFact. “We knew that vaccinated people could become infected with delta and shed viable virus in large amounts,” Hanage said.
– Brooke Nichols, a health economist and infectious disease mathematical modeler at Boston University, said “vaccinated individuals can definitely infect other people. There is enough data to support this.” “When calling it a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated,’ though, it makes it sound as those vaccinated individuals aren’t substantially contributing to new cases – which they are [particularly now].”
– Birx, the coordinator of the White House Coronavirus Task Force under former President Donald Trump, said faith that the vaccines created a wall of protection was misplaced – and she knew it.
– Although noting that the vaccine does confer some protection from the virus, she added: “Let’s be very clear: 50 percent of the people who died from the omicron surge were older, vaccinated.”

ENERGY CRISIS
Gazprom to reduce Nord Stream gas deliveries to Germany by HALF this week: Russia’s Gazprom has said it was halting another turbine in the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany and the flow of gas, already at just 40% of capacity, would fall by another half from Wednesday.
– The new blow to supply comes at a moment of high tension as Russia and the West exchange economic blows in response to Moscow’s actions in Ukraine. The European Union has accused Russia of resorting to energy blackmail, while the Kremlin says the gas disruption has been caused by maintenance issues and the effect of Western sanctions.
– Gazprom said output from Wednesday would fall to 33 million cubic metres per day – just half of the current, already reduced, supply. Full article: https://www.rte.ie/news/2022/0725/1312148-nord-stream-stoppage/
TRAVEL NEWS
Going to Spain? Make sure you have an international driver’s licence if you intend to drive: If you are visiting Spain from the UK and will be driving then you must be in possession of an international driver’s licence or you will be fined.
– On the weekend of July 24 reports online suggested that “British looking” drivers were being targeted on the Costa del Sol. Those reports go on to suggest that they weren’t just targeting residents who hadn’t exchanged their licence for a Spanish one, but that even if you were just a tourist you were being fined.
– The officers involved in issuing these fines are 100 per cent correct. Anyone from outside the EU who wished to drive in Spain must be in possession of an international driver’s licence, which of course now includes the UK. So if you want to be able to drive in Spain on a UK driver’s licence, and for that matter most other countries in the EU, then you do need to apply for one and bring it with you. Digital Authoritarianism- AI Surveillance Signals the Death of Privacy:
“There are no private lives. This a most important aspect of modern life. One of the biggest transformations we have seen in our society is the diminution of the sphere of the private. We must reasonably now all regard the fact that there are no secrets and nothing is private. Everything is public.” – Philip K. Dick (Dec. 16, 1928 – March 2, 1982)
– Nothing is private. We teeter on the cusp of a cultural, technological and societal revolution the likes of which have never been seen before. The government and its corporate partners, aided by rapidly advancing technology, are reshaping the world into one in which there is no privacy at all.
– Cue the rise of digital authoritarianism. Digital authoritarianism, as the Center for Strategic and International Studies cautions, involves the use of information technology to surveil, repress, and manipulate the populace, endangering human rights and civil liberties, and co-opting and corrupting the foundational principles of democratic and open societies, “including freedom of movement, the right to speak freely and express political dissent, and the right to personal privacy, online and off.” Full article: https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/digital_authoritarianism_ai_surveillance_signals_the_death_of_privacy

Watch Paul Simon (80) and Joni Mitchell (78) make surprise appearances at Newport Folk Festival: The legendary songwriters stole the show when they appeared as guests during sets that were originally scheduled as tributes to their musical legacies. Neither performer was listed on the bill or trailed in advance of the event.
– Coming out of retirement, however temporarily, Simon then joined a number of guests to perform some of the biggest songs in his extensive back catalog, including Graceland, The Boxer, Sound of Silence, and American Tune. During the latter, Simon performed using his Martin signature OM-42PS acoustic guitar.
– Meanwhile, Mitchell’s set on the Sunday (July 24) was perhaps the bigger surprise, featuring a 13 track setlist from an artist who has not performed a full show for more than 20 years.
