Rincón de la Victoria celebrates the XI Puppet Festival 27, 28, 29 and 31 July:
– The Mayor of Rincón de la Victoria has announced the great novelty of this year- “the recovery of the essence of a festival that returns to the street, and to the stage, where the most fantastic stories will come to life”, said the councillor.
– The Puppet Festival will begin on Thursday 27 July with the adventures of ‘Penique the Brave’ by Miguel Pino Children’s Productions in the Plaza de la Constitución in Rincón de la Victoria.
– On Friday 28 July, the company Emilio Villalba & Sara Marina will come to the Plaza de las Flores in Benagalbón with the show ‘La Pequeña Juglaresa’. – The company Teatro de Pocas Luces will perform ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ in the Gloria Fuertes square in La Cala del Moral on Saturday 29th July. A unique show in which the classic tale is reinterpreted through the tradition of the glove puppet with all the strength of the original story.
– The closing of the festival, Monday 31st July, will be performed by the company La Fábrica de Parules with ‘Ritmos Animales’ in the old railway station of Torre de Benagalbón. Ritmos animalescos is a puppet concert, a big party to the rhythm of blues, reggae, funky, salsa, or rock performed by Alberto Celdrán and Rafa de Juan.

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

DoctorLaptop’s Computer Repairs & Services:
– Summer heat puts additional strain on laptops. Hot laptops tend to run slow, or even shut themselves down, and this leads to bigger problems. Have your computer properly maintained with an annual professional servicing to keep it free of malware, trackers & data collectors and running at its optimum capacity.
– You don’t wait till your car engine freezes before you change your oil, now do you? If you do, the repair costs far more than the oil changes you skipped. It’s the same with computers. An inexpensive annual maintenance service is far cheaper than waiting until the device is annoyingly slow and popping up error messages, and thus in need of an expensive repair. Protect your computer & your privacy with annual servicing.
– The Doctor is closed on weekends. I do not work on computers that are more than 8 years old (pre 2015), unless they have been receiving annual servicing by me. Always include the patient’s make and model number when making support requests.

SPAIN
Fugitive Catalan leader could determine who governs in Spain- Will Sanchez allow a Catalan Independence Referendum in return for their supporting his coalition?:
– Although the right-wing Popular Party (PP) is demanding the right to rule after winning the vote, it seems a remote possibility given that it didn’t manage to secure an absolute majority, even with the support of Vox.
– That offers a chance for Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to cling onto power if he wins the backing of several Basque and Catalan independence parties whose parliamentary support was key to propping up his outgoing minority government. Even so, Sánchez would still need to secure the agreement of JxCat, the hardline separatist party headed by Puigdemont, whose seven lawmakers hold the key to the Socialist leader passing any parliamentary investiture vote.
– And the irony of being kingmaker was not lost on the former Catalan leader who fled to Belgium to avoid prosecution over his role in the failed 2017 independence bid that sparked Spain’s worst crisis in decades. “One day you are decisive in order to form a Spanish government, the next day Spain orders your arrest,” tweeted Puigdemont in English after Spain issued a fresh warrant for his arrest just hours after the election results became clear.
– On Sunday evening, as the results emerged, the JxCat leadership made clear it would not be party to Sánchez’s return to power without something in return, prompting an immediate backlash from Alberto Nunez Feijóo’s PP.
– “The only alternative to Feijóo (PP) is having Puigdemont run the Spanish government,” retorted Juanma Moreno, the PP leader who heads the southern Andalusia region.
– For years, JxCat has pushed for the right to stage an independence referendum and for an amnesty for the separatist leaders still wanted by the Spanish justice system, like Puigdemont. ANDALUCIA
EU Money Available- The Junta will create a one-stop shop to speed up aid for housing renovations: {Translation}
– The Andalusian regional government will create a one-stop shop with professional associations to speed up the application for and granting of housing refurbishment aid for residents and homeowners’ associations under the Ecovivienda Plan, which manages the European Next Generation funds in this area.
– This office will offer information and management services, and will provide specialised advice to residents interested in renovating their buildings and homes with this aid, mainly focused on energy rehabilitation and reducing consumption, as reported by the Regional Ministry of Development in a statement.
– Since the deadline for applying for aid under the Ecovivienda Plan opened in October there have been “numerous applications received”, to the point of extending both the deadline, until April 2024, and the funds for this by 80 million (to 214.1 million) in order to take “maximum advantage” of the European funds for the energy rehabilitation of the residential stock.
– “We have to be agile in the granting of aid”, said the Councillor, who pointed out that, in addition to the work of the administration, the “involvement and collaboration of the sector is essential” due to its capacity to resolve any issues or incidents in homeowners’ and residents’ associations.
– The Ecovivienda Plan aims to reduce energy consumption in homes by around 30%, which “will result in less polluting emissions, as well as being an incentive to reduce electricity and gas bills”. To this end, funding will be provided for actions aimed at improving insulation in façades and roofs, installing renewable energy systems, changing windows and improving lighting systems. The rehabilitation offices will collaborate in the preparation and control of the documentation, the presentation of applications and the fulfilment of the requirements of the aforementioned plan.

AXARQUIA
Axarquia municipalities intensify water restrictions in the face of drought, especially in Benamargosa: {Translation}
– In the Axarquia the drought situation continues to worsen. With La Viñuela already at 8.8% and with only 14 hectometres, some municipalities that are supplied by the reservoir have intensified their saving measures, including Benamargosa, which has extended its cut-off time. Others, such as Periana, have decided to restrict supply from 22:30 to 7:00 so that their reservoirs, which obtain water from the Guaro borehole, can be filled so that their inhabitants can be supplied during the day.
– The measures began to be taken when the Junta de Andalucía agreed that the water supply to Axaragua should be reduced by up to 20%. So when Axaragua, the public company dependent on the Mancomunidad Oriental, which manages the high water supply in 14 of the 31 villages in the area, became aware of this reduction, it began to reduce the water it provided to the municipalities.
**Seven municipalities in Axarquia with night-time cuts**
– Almáchar, Benamargosa, Benamocarra, El Borge, Comares, Cútar, Iznate, Macharaviaya, Moclinejo, Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga, Totalán, Algarrobo and Torrox are the municipalities in the area that are supplied with water from La Viñuela. Many of them have had restrictions for several weeks, but in one of them they have just intensified them. In Benamargosa they first decided to cut the water supply at night between 23:00 and 7:00. A few weeks later they have been forced to extend the timetable from 21:00 to 9:00, as the situation “is increasingly critical and they are reducing the flow”, according to Salvador Arcas, mayor of the municipality. He maintains that this decision has been taken so that the population is affected as little as possible and the reservoirs can recover the water in more time. He also assures that the villagers are aware of the situation and know that “there is no water and the water we have has to be well organised”.
– Vélez-Málaga, Benamargosa, Iznate, Almáchar, El Borge and Moclinejo are also cutting water at night. The latter is doing so from 00:00 to 06:30 “to guarantee the service throughout the day”, according to the local mayor, Antonio Muñoz, through a proclamation. In total there are now six municipalities that are supplied by La Viñuela that cut their water supply at night, and seven in total in La Axarquía, including Periana.
– When the water saving measures began, the hoteliers of Torre del Mar were alarmed because they did not know how the cuts would affect their businesses. Now the Town Hall has assured that they have worked to regulate the water supply in the face of the scarcity of water resources and to ensure that the population receives it without setbacks. And so it has been. Antonio Sebastián Pastor, president of the Association of Traders and Businessmen of Torre del Mar (Acet), assures us that so far there has been no shortage of water in the hotel and catering sector and they suspect that it is because “the water left in the pipes is enough to keep us going until two or three in the morning”.
– The sector intuits that if there is no water now, it will be the same in August, but they do not want to “be alarmed” by a situation that for the moment is not harming them because they still have water. Therefore, they are “keeping up to date” and will be adapting to what happens during the rest of the summer.
– Among the 17 villages of the Axarquia that are not supplied by the reservoir, in Nerja they have already cut the water from the showers on the beach, a measure which is also being carried out in Torrox, Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga and Algarrobo.
– Periana has also cut the water supply at night, as announced by the mayor of the municipality. The municipality is taking this measure to “avoid prolonged water cuts in the future”, according to sources from Periana Town Hall. Similarly, they say that they do not rule out the possibility that during the month of August they will be forced to “take more drastic measures”. SCIENCE
Scientists Discover Bacteria That Can Break Down Certain “Forever Chemicals”:
– Scientists specializing in chemical and environmental engineering at the University of California, Riverside have discovered two types of bacteria in the soil capable of breaking down a class of stubborn “forever chemicals,” giving hope for low-cost biological cleanup of industrial pollutants.
– Unhealthful forever chemicals persist in the environment for decades or much longer because of their unusually strong carbon-to-fluorine bonds. Remarkably, the UCR team found that the bacteria cleave the pollutant’s chlorine-carbon bonds, which starts a chain of reactions that destroy the forever chemical structures, rendering them harmless. Endangered migratory monarch butterfly returns to Malaga after long absence:
– An endangered butterfly has returned to the La Concepción botanical gardens in Malaga after several years of absence. The migratory monarch butterfly is currently listed as endangered, since in the last 20 years its presence in North America has decreased by more than 80%, so programmes are being carried out to protect their habitats in American and Latin countries where they are native.
– The botanical gardens in Malaga increased its planting of specimens of Asclepias curassavica, known as milkweed or blood flower, next to the lotus pond, which is believed to have lured the butterflies.
