Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

Gas tanks: We have both Repsol and Cepsa gas tanks. We usually change the Cepsa ones at the Torrox BP petrol station and the Repsol ones at the Repsol petrol station on Torrox Costa where they are cheaper.
We’ve just been to the BP station and they say they only do the new lightweight Repsol ones for 18€ now and would change our Cepsa for a Repsol. We haven’t been able to find anywhere else to change the Cepsa ones and wondered where other people go. I’m reluctant to give it up in case we cannot always get the lightweight Repsol tanks as the old style orange ones are back-breakingly heavy to heave into the car! Barbara, Torrox campo.

SPAIN

Spain restricts free speech rights, if you hurt someone’s feelings you can go to prison, even if you are a puppet doing a satire piece!:
– The Court of Huelva has sentenced a man to six months in prison for making a “racist comment” to a doctor, of Dominican origin, at a health centre in Huelva, to whom he said, “Panchita, vete a tu país de mierda a trabajar, que has venido aquí y no quieres trabajar” (Little man, go back to your crappy country and work, you came here and don’t want to work).
– The sentence, confirmed by the High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) after rejecting the appeal lodged by the condemned man, considers him responsible for a hate crime.
– In 2021 Spanish rapper Pablo Hasél was sent to prison, to serve a 9-month sentence for insulting the monarchy in a song. In the song, Hasél rapped about corruption tied to the former monarch but also talked about him as a wife-beater, a drunk, head of a mafia mob and a frequent user of prostitution.
– Valtònyc, another Spanish rapper sentenced on similar grounds in 2018, fled to Belgium, where judicial authorities have rejected Spain’s extradition request. Other recent cases have involved puppeteers purveying political satire and bloggers joking about assassinations of the 1939-1975 authoritarian regime of Gen. Francisco Franco.

SPANISH ELECTIONS

The King proposes Pedro Sánchez as a candidate for a new investiture: {Translation, summary}
– The King has decided to propose the leader of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, for a new investiture debate in Congress after the defeat of the ‘popular’ Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s candidacy. This has been communicated by the Head of State to the President of Congress, the Socialist Francina Armengol, after the second round of consultations that he held between Monday and Tuesday at the Zarzuela Palace with seven of the eleven parties represented in Congress.
– This time there is a deadline marked on the calendar: if no one has managed to pass the investiture vote by 27 November, the Cortes Generales (Congress of Deputies and the Senate) will be dissolved and there will be new general elections on 14 January. ANDALUCIA

Health admits to using private healthcare to solve capacity problems: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Regional Minister of Health, Catalina García, confirmed on Tuesday that the Regional Government has resorted to a new model of health care agreements with the private sector to solve the public system’s capacity problems, but denied that this is detrimental to the public health care model.
– The Regional Minister stated that “no matter how much we have increased the capacity of the system in four and a half years with more centres, units and professionals, we have not been able to reach it”, and blamed this on the ageing population and a shortage of professionals due to retirements, a problem that the Ministry has not solved with a thousand MIR places in an extraordinary offer requested by the Regional Government.
– In the press conference following the Council of Government, the Regional Minister stated that with objective data “it cannot be said that Andalusia is on the way to privatising its healthcare system”, given that the budget, infrastructure and professionals have been increasing every year, although she insisted that there is a shortage of doctors because not all those retiring are being replaced.
– The Andalusian Health Minister understood the public’s dissatisfaction with the way the health system is working, but indicated that the Regional Ministry is already implementing measures to reduce waiting lists in hospitals and, in this respect, she announced that they will soon be published after more than a year’s delay due to technical problems.
– The large public hospitals are already working in the evenings and on public holidays in order to reduce waiting lists; they are also studying specific measures to “guarantee accessibility” in primary care, where appointments take about two weeks.
– As part of this shock plan, the Regional Ministry has opted for a new model of agreements with private healthcare and will move towards a framework agreement with companies, which is within the public sector contracts law, because it allows for greater agility, better prices and centralisation, according to the Regional Minister, who is confident that better results will be obtained. She explained that this is an agreement with a group of private companies for four years, which are granted a period of thirty days to apply for the tender, of which they already know the prices and in which the quality of care is valued above all, and once they are within the framework agreement they are prepared for when the SAS begins to tender the health service agreements.
– During this phase, a period of about two weeks is opened for companies included in the framework agreement that wish to bid for the tendering of certain health services.
– García also referred to the delay in updating the SAS job bank and pointed out that work is underway to change the system so that it is updated every four months instead of every year, although it has currently been closed for several years. For this reason, she apologised to those affected and informed that in 2024 the SAS job bank will be updated every four months in the most important categories. Islamic State issues new call to “liberate Andalucia from the infidels”: {Translation}
– The Islamic State has called for attacks on Arab countries that are in the process of normalising relations with Israel. This proclamation is justified on the grounds that it is an effective method of liberating “Al-Andalus”, which is currently under the control of the “infidels”.
– These jihadists, caught up in a relentless search for an effective strategy after the successive loss of their four “caliphs”, while maintaining the extermination campaign against Christians in Africa, emphasise that it is essential to attack governments that normalise relations with Jews and Americans. In a statement reported by the newspaper La Razón, they said: “Targeting “the normalisers” is a “step on the right path towards the liberation of Jerusalem, Mecca and Andalucia“. According to their perspective, killing those who normalise these relations is tantamount to killing Jews and Christians themselves, legitimizing it.
– In this context, they argue that Muslims should reject not only Zionists, but also all Jews, Christians and, in particular, those Muslims who choose to normalise relations with Israel. Within this list of ‘normalisers’, the Islamic State includes countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar, as well as organisations such as the Afghan Taliban and Al-Qaeda. – A rape incident was reported every two days in the past six months in the province of Malaga, new disturbing crime data shows. TORROX

Torrox allows Endesa to continue building its substation despite the “serious irregularity”: {Translation}
– The week has started in Torrox with an ordinary plenary session which has caused even more dismay among the neighbours, who see how the construction of Endesa’s electricity substation is going ahead next to two schools and houses. Members of the Plataforma Ciudadana contra la Subestación en Torrox Park were present at the plenary session “to make our group visible”.
– Before the government team they exposed the “serious irregularity in the project” of the Endesa substation because in the original “they had not left enough distance from the pavement and that is why they are modifying the project because they need a setback of a few meters. We have said this today in the plenary session and this is the opportunity for Óscar Medina’s team to revoke the building permit”.
– But the neighbours were disappointed: “The members of the platform have witnessed the unanimous approval of the motion to revoke the building permit for the substation, but we do not understand how the Torrox Town Hall government team approves this revocation of the permit while at the same time indicating that the substation will be built in the chosen location and will not act to revoke it”.
– Therefore, during the question and answer session, they raised the following issues, among others:
– We are aware that the substation is going to have a setback of a few metres and this would entail a series of reports, is this going to be used to try to revoke the licence?
– An unfavourable technical legal report would be needed in order to revoke the licence, has such a report been requested?
“Neither of these two questions has been answered convincingly by the government team that would lead to a solution to paralyse the work on the Endesa substation, regrets the collective.
– Despite the new setback, the platform will continue to “fight” for a new location for the substation “and thus preserve the health of families and the educational community”.
THE TOWN COUNCIL URGES THE REVOCATION BUT DOES NOT PARALYSE THE PROJECT
– For its part, Torrox Town Hall stressed that “the plenary session closed with a new debate on the change of location of the electrical substation, planned for Torrox Park, already contemplated in the General Urban Development Plan of 1996 and authorised by an agreement signed by the then mayor, Francisco Muñoz, in April 2005. The plenary unanimously approved to urge the revocation of the building permit granted, to study “with rigour” new locations and to negotiate with Endesa the burying of the high voltage lines that cross these and other areas, although the government team clarified that it may proceed “as long as there is no illegality”. The matter will be debated again in a plenary session on 16 October”. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Water supply cut in tanks and pumping stations in Rincón de la Victoria from Axaragua intakes: {Translation}
– From 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, 4th October, there will be a supply cut in the reservoirs and pumping stations of Rincón de la Victoria, from the Axaragua intakes. This cut is due to a repair on the reduction piece of the drain in the supply pipe that connects to the Trapiche DWTP on the right bank of Vélez, at the height of Arroyo Santillán.
– It is expected that, if the cut does not exceed 24 hours and daily consumption remains within normal levels, there should not be a problem of shortages for the population. However, should the repairs be prolonged, there is a possibility that the supply to the Añoreta, Benagalbón and Esmeralda reservoirs could be affected. TECH

Does your car collect your personal data?:
– Many digital services and products collect user data intensively. But we don’t normally think of this as being done by a car, despite the fact that many of them are easily connected to the internet. The Mozilla Foundation has published a report that warns of the enormous amount of personal data collected by manufacturers, based on a study of the privacy policies of 25 major automobile brands. The study takes the United States as a reference point, although the Mozilla Foundation has also reviewed the privacy policies of the European Union, with a particular focus on Germany. The organization’s researchers examined the major brands on the market, such as Toyota, Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Kia, Hyundai and Tesla.
– The report’s findings are striking. According to the study, car manufacturers can collect more personal data than is necessary to operate and improve their vehicles. Among these are demographic data – name, age, gender, home address – but also user names on social networks or the contacts in your address book. In addition, some brands can even collect a car owner’s ethnicity, facial expressions, and information about their health and sex life.
– “As cars become more connected and more computerized, they have become more and more of a privacy nightmare,” says Jen Caltrider, director of the “Privacy Not Included” program. “Cars now come with many built-in sensors, such as microphones and cameras.” Personal data is collected when people interact with their vehicle. According to the researchers, they do this through those sensors, integrated digital services, or the car’s app, which becomes a gateway to the content on our phone.
