SPANISH ELECTIONS
Socialist Infighting Puts Sanchez Investiture In Doubt:
{Translation}
– The acting Minister of Education and Vocational Training and PSOE spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, has criticised the words of the former president of Extremadura, the socialist Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra, by asking him for “restraint”, after he stated that approving an amnesty for those involved in the process would be “violating 40 million Spaniards”.
– At a press conference in Huesca, in which Ibarra assessed the meeting held on Wednesday between the leader of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, and the leader of Sumar, Yolanda Díaz, Alegría asked the former socialist leader for “restraint when using certain verbs” because in her opinion “they do not contribute anything positive”.
– At an informative breakfast, Ibarra gave his opinion on the possible approval of an amnesty law in exchange for the support of Junts for the investiture of Sánchez and assured that “nobody would think of granting amnesty to a rapist”. “How can it be tolerated that someone violates 40 million Spaniards? Because whoever violates the Constitution is violating me, is violating my vote”, continued the Socialist, who stressed that an amnesty would serve to make Spaniards “more unequal” and would constitute a “betrayal” of PSOE voters.
– On the contrary, Alegría defended the fact that the PSOE is responding to the results of the elections on 23 July because, in her opinion, Spaniards said that they wanted to continue “on this path of progress and growth”. She therefore affirmed that they will listen to all groups, except Vox. (Alegría says this despite the fact that her PSOE LOST that election, the majority voting against their “path of progress” ultra-liberal agenda. -Ed) Source & Photo, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia-psoe-pide-contencion-ibarra-afirmar-aprobar-amnistia-violar-40-millones-espanoles-20231004143134.html
ANDALUCIA
The summer of San Miguel will continue until the rains arrive, which already have a date: {Translation, summary}
– The San Miguel summer seems to go beyond a mere extension of summer, given its persistence and intensity. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has reported the continuation of temperatures higher than usual for this time of year. In the words of the agency, through its account on the social network X, “the anticyclonic blockade will persist until early next week, so temperatures are expected to continue significantly above normal for the season and with hardly any rainfall”.
– Estimates are that the rains could appear around 11 or 12 October, aligning with the Pilar festivity. According to the European Centre’s model predictions, a squall is expected to form to the west of Portugal at the beginning of the week. If these forecasts prove to be correct, the Iberian Peninsula would be affected by this front on 10 and 11 October.
– This would result in a climatic transformation, with low temperatures and rainfall predominating. Although the areas most affected would be those on the Atlantic side of the peninsula, the exact magnitude of the phenomenon has yet to be determined. This is the start date for the flu and Covid vaccination campaign in Andalucía:
– Andalucía will begin the usual autumn vaccination campaign next Monday. It will include not only the flu jab, but also the coronavirus one, which will continue to be administered in the coming years, as it has not yet passed into the seasonal phase.
– The regional Minister of Health, Catalina García, announced on Tuesday after the meeting of the governing council of the Junta that the double vaccination campaign against influenza and Covid-19 will initially vaccinate people in residential centres for the elderly and centres for the disabled; the general population aged 85 and over; and the staff of health and socio-health centres, residences and centres for the disabled. They will be joined by staff in health and social-health centres, nursing homes and disability centres; and children aged 6 to 59 months who attend appointments for jabs on the regular vaccination schedule.
– After the first phase, from 16 October onwards people over 70 years of age, children aged six months and over, adults with risk pathologies, elderly dependents and their professional carers, as well as pregnant women, will be vaccinated.
– The next phase will begin on 30 October. It will be the turn of the over-60s for the double vaccination; other professional groups, such as security forces, farm workers, livestock farmers and veterinarians; and prison staff.
– The last phase will be rolled out from December, when those living in households with persons aged 60 years or older or persons at risk will receive the double vaccination. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/andalucia/this-the-start-date-for-the-flu-20231004171834-nt.html

No date in sight for 2022 election promise of free wifi in Andalucía’s public hospitals:

PTV Telecom customer data in Andalucia, past and present customers, exposed after cyber-attack: {Translation}
– The names of clients, their IBAN numbers or identity documents and credit card number, among other data, may have been leaked.
– This attack has affected more than “100,000 customers across Spain”, with special emphasis on Andalucia, with users in Cordoba, Seville, Granada, among other cities, being exposed.
– The exact scope of the leak is varied. In the statement issued by the operator, it is specified: “As a result of this incident, the security of certain personal information of our customers may have been compromised. Depending on the case, the data affected may be more or less sensitive: name, surname, postal address, telephone number, email address, ID number, date of birth, nationality, IBAN code of current account or credit card number”.
– PTV Telecom has already begun the process of notifying affected individuals by email or SMS. These notifications detail which “exact data has been leaked”. It is crucial to mention that the bank card is one of the most sensitive elements and, if it has been compromised, it will be specified in the customer report.
– The leakage of personal or billing data can lead to potential risks for users. For this reason, the operator offers a series of recommendations, among which the following stand out:
– Do not respond to requests for information from unknown sources. Avoid clicking on links in untrusted emails or messages. Be cautious with transactions or communications received in the coming months. Contact your bank in the event of a compromise of bank details.
– Report any suspicious activity to the police or consult INCIBE (Instituto Nacional de Ciberseguridad).
– Moreover, it is not only current customers who are affected. “All the affected data comes from the interaction that PTV has or has had with these users as a result of its commercial activity”, suggesting that customers could also be at risk. Source,

Working calendar in Andalucia 2024: holidays, easter and Christmas: {Translation}
– Andalucia has already approved the working calendar for the year 2024, which will have a total of 12 public holidays, eight of which are national and four regional. In addition to these, there are two more local holidays, which will be freely chosen by each local council. The latter will be announced in the coming weeks, as the municipal councils have not yet determined them.
– The first long weekend of the year will take place on 1 January: New Year’s Day falls on a Monday and is a public holiday throughout the country. However, Epiphany, on 6 January, is marked as a regional holiday in the Andalusian calendar, but falls on a Saturday, so there will be no option for a long weekend.
– The next long weekend will coincide with Easter Week in 2024. Good Friday, 29 March, is a bank holiday. In addition, Andalusians will enjoy Thursday 28th as a public holiday, because of Maundy Thursday. Thus, many will have four consecutive days off. The same happens in December, as Friday 6 is a public holiday – Spanish Constitution Day – and Sunday 8 – Immaculate Conception – is moved to Monday 9. Also, 1 November, All Saints’ Day, is a public holiday and a long weekend.
*These are the public holidays in Andalusia in 2024*
National holidays:
Monday, 1 January: New Year’s Day
Friday, 29 March: Good Friday
Wednesday, 1 May: Workers’ Day
Thursday, 15 August: Assumption of the Virgin Mary
Saturday, 12 October: Spanish National Holiday
Friday, 1st November: All Saints’ Day
Friday, 6th December: Spanish Constitution Day
Wednesday, 25th December: Christmas Day
Regional holidays:
Saturday, 6 January: Epiphany
Thursday, 28th February: Day of Andalusia
Thursday, 28th March: Maundy Thursday
Monday, 9 December: Immaculate Conception is moved to Sunday, 8 December.

TRAVEL NEWS
Americans Can Continue Travelling to EU Without an ETIAS Travel Authorisation Until Mid-2025: {Translation}
– The European Union was scheduled to launch the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) by 2024, however, sources from the EU have made it clear for SchengenVisaInfo.com that the ETIAS has been postponed for another year, until at least 2025. “…the implementation of the ETIAS has been rescheduled to May 2025, with the possibility of further postponement.” -EU Official
The same has blamed the postponing of the system launch on delays by third parties on the implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES), another EU border security system which was scheduled to become operational by the end of this year, or early next year.
