As I promised, it’s been ten and a half months free of donation requests. After the last few stragglers were added into last year’s donation drive total, we finally reached the target goal. Well done & thanks again! The holiday season is returning. So now I must begin the DigameXtra 2023 Holiday Donation Drive. I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. So please consider the value you have received this passing year and show your support with a donation. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained! The 3% group finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The DGT warns of the problems you may have when driving a car in the name of a deceased: {Translation}
– In Spain, the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) estimates that more than one million vehicles are still registered in the name of deceased persons. This fact poses complex legal and administrative challenges, generating potential complications in cases of infringements or accidents, which highlights the importance of resolving this issue.
– The lack of updated vehicle ownership registers represents one of the central challenges for the state agency. This omission makes it difficult to impose sanctions on drivers who do not comply with traffic regulations, which could contribute to irresponsible behaviour on the roads.
– In traffic accident situations, uncertainty about the ownership of a vehicle can make it difficult to assign liability and complicate the insurance claims process. This scenario can lead to legal disputes and delays in compensating third party drivers involved in an accident.
– If the DGT and the insurer are not informed of the death of the vehicle owner, it is likely that the company will not be liable for the costs of the accident, even if the policy is still in force.
– In situations where the insurer is notified of the death of the vehicle owner, the insurer has 15 days to decide whether to maintain the coverage with new conditions. This could mean an increase in the premium or even the waiver to insure the new driver.
– In cases of fines, the notification is sent to the address registered with the DGT. If this address belongs to the deceased and no one occupies it, it is likely that the notifications will accumulate without being received, resulting in a considerable increase in the amount of the initial fine.
– Notification of death must be made at the nearest Jefatura de Tráfico, by filling in a form with information on the vehicle, details of the death and paying the corresponding fee. In addition, the responsible declaration of the obligations and responsibilities associated with the change of ownership must be made and the new tax address of the car must be provided.
– The new owner must regularise the situation, paying the corresponding tax in his or her autonomous community and transferring the vehicle at a Traffic office, by appointment or by electronic means.
– Another option is to permanently deregister the vehicle, a process similar to deregistering a conventional vehicle. Documentation is required, including the vehicle’s registration certificate and technical data sheet, a declaration of responsibility for deregistration due to the death of the owner, copies of the ID card of the deceased, death certificate and the ID card of the heir who will receive the vehicle. AXARQUÍA

The extreme drought continues to empty the La Viñuela reservoir and the whole of La Axarquía of water: {Translation, summary}
– The extreme drought continues to wreak havoc. The La Viñuela reservoir continues in free fall and on Tuesday 14 November accumulated only 12.59 cubic hectometres of water, which represents 7.66% of its total capacity and a new historic low. The previous week it had 12.62 cubic hectometres, and a year ago, according to data from the Junta de Andalucía’s Hidrosur network, it had 15.60 cubic hectometres.
– The situation is not expected to improve, as it will continue not to rain and with maximum temperatures much higher than usual for the month of November, with little more than a month to go before the onset of seasonal winter.
– In addition, the night-time water cuts due to the extreme drought are already affecting Vélez-Málaga, Torrox, Benamargosa, Almáchar, El Borge and Iznate, among other municipalities in the region, and there will continue to be no rain in the short term. MALAGA PROVINCE

Plague of oriental hornets threaten honey bees and crops as they advance across Malaga province:
– Oriental hornets are starting to spread across Malaga province and threatening bee colonies and crops as they advance. Residents from Malaga city and the inland town of Cártama to coastal destinations such as Torremolinos and Benalmádena have noticed the presence of the invasive hornets and are urging the Junta to take action. The Oriental hornets attack honey-producing bees and can damage crops such as citrus and wheat.
– José Antonio Fortés is a beekeeper from Malaga with several hives in Alcaucín, and said they pose a great threat. “If the bee hive’s defences fail and it manages to get in, the bees can be gone in five minutes,” he warned. The Oriental hornet’s behaviour is similar to that of any species that has the ability to move in swarms. “First they send out the scouts. They get into the hives. If you have a healthy hive, with good defences, the bees kill these scouts. But if you don’t, they go out and warn the rest. They come back in swarms and take everything,” Fortés said. The bee becomes a delicacy for this invasive species that started to first appear in Malaga province in 2016. “They enter the hive, cut off their heads and eat the abdomen, which carries the honey and pollen,” he pointed out. The summer of San Martín reaches up to 35 degrees in Torremolinos and 28 in Malaga capital: {Translation, summary}
– The San Martín summer will still be here for a few more days in Malaga. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts that temperatures will remain close to 30 degrees throughout the week in the middle of November. This Tuesday the mercury reached over 35 degrees in Torremolinos, 33 in Coín and 32 in Álora and 27.6 degrees in Málaga.
– These atypical temperatures for this time of year are being experienced throughout the province. The heat has been very strong throughout Tuesday, rising above 30 degrees in several municipalities in the Guadalhorce Valley, where rain is so necessary, but is not expected at the moment, as the chances are practically 0% and it could be said that in the area it seems to be summer, rather than autumn. Next Monday a “drastic” change in weather is expected due to the arrival of a polar jet from the Atlantic: {Translation, summary}
– Temperatures will drop from next Monday and will be accompanied by polar or arctic air that will leave a cold atmosphere, more in line with the weather at this time of year, after the current “unusual” air mass, which is leaving higher temperatures than normal, due to the influence of the anticyclonic ridge, which will keep the weather stable until the end of the week.
– It is still difficult to know if November will end with cold and snowfall, so Meteored suggests several possibilities. Firstly, an anticyclone could settle over the Peninsula with a stable atmosphere and daytime temperatures more typical for the season and cold at night and freezing fog in the early hours of the morning.
– Another possible scenario is the formation of a blocking anticyclone in more northerly latitudes that would divert the squalls towards lower latitudes and affect Spain with precipitation and snowfall. In any case, Meteored has indicated that the atmosphere will show “greater dynamism” in a few days, which will favour conditions more typical of the current time of year. A woman attacks the doctor who treated her husband for a heart attack in Torre del Mar: {Translation, summary}
– A doctor in Torre del Mar was assaulted by a woman while attending to her husband, who suffered a heart attack at home in the early hours of Monday morning. The emergency medical team, alerted by a tip-off, went to the house to assist the man in crisis.
– The aggression was triggered when the patient’s wife insisted on the medical report mentioning that her husband was a consumer of alcohol and tobacco, provoking a struggle that required the intervention of the ambulance driver and a nurse to protect the doctor, according to SER Málaga. Iceland braces for eruption as fissures emerge in Grindavik:
– The Icelandic Meteorological Office said on Monday that there was still a “significant likelihood” of a volcanic eruption on Iceland’s southern peninsula in the coming days despite a decrease in seismic activity. The seismic activity in Grindavik, a fishing town of roughly 4,000 people on the Reykjanes Peninsula, caused hundreds of small earthquakes that damaged roads and buildings.
– “We believe that this intrusion is literally hovering, sitting in equilibrium now just below the earth’s surface,” said Matthew James Roberts, director of the service and research division at the meteorological office. “We have this tremendous uncertainty now. Will there be an eruption and if so, what sort of damage will occur?”
– Residents of Grindavik, who were told to leave the town in the early hours of Saturday morning, were allowed to briefly return to their homes to collect their belongings on Monday. Cars lined up for hours outside the evacuation zone and were allowed in for just a few minutes at a time.
– “We have a fissure that’s about 15 kilometers (roughly 9 miles) long, and anywhere on that fissure we can see that an eruption could happen,” Vidir Reynisson, head of Iceland’s Civil Protection and Emergency Management agency, told the AFP news. Sinner moves to top of the group but is not yet guaranteed a semi-final spot ahead of his final round-robin match against Rune on Thursday.
