The holiday season is returning. So now I must begin the DigameXtra 2023 Holiday Donation Drive. I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. So please now consider the value you have received this passing year and show your support with a donation. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained! The 3% group finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

Break-Ins in Jete/Itrabo area?: {Editor}
– I have received a report that 3 thieves (dressed in all black, balaclavas and carrying crow-bars and torches) broke into approximately 18 houses in the Jete/Itrabo area on Friday evening soon after sundown. I have yet to see reports of this in the Granada press, so I have no official confirmation, although I am told the police have been notified.
– In any case, it is suggested that you take this opportunity to review your own security measures, particularly if you live in the campo. I have covered other, confirmed cases, of home invasions in Andalucia in recent issues. This appears to be a growing trend. (My friends in the isolated swamps of Florida, where they breed Dobermans to sell to the army and police, use this effective strategy for home security. You have a reasonably strong fence around your home and yard, sufficient to keep your dogs from escaping, not easy for people to hop over. Have a minimum of three dogs, two large of protective/aggressive breeds like Dobies, Rotties or German Shepherds, and one Beagle or other hyper active yapper. The small dog is the scout, and is always outdoors. The enforcers rotate indoors, one at a time, so the scout always has backup outside, and the family always has an enforcer inside. The scout should not be discouraged from barking at strangers, his job is to alert the enforcers of approaching danger. If you receive uninvited visitors at your gate or fence, the scout raises the alarm, an enforcer is outside to immediately respond to deter any threat, and an enforcer is inside to deter anyone from entering the house. Depending on the situation, you can decide to release the indoor enforcer to assist the other dogs outside. In any case, that should give you time to call the authorities and grab your weapon of choice before a confrontation. -Ed.)
I will update this article if & when more info is available.

MALAGA PROVINCE

Seven arrested in Malaga, including two minors, for extorting and robbing dating app users: The perpetrators contacted their potential victims through apps, mainly dating apps. During the first encounter, they threatened them with knives or used violence to make them carry out money transactions to the account of one of the perpetrators, or they stole effects from inside the property or that they were carrying among their belongings. To date, they have been charged with fourteen robberies involving violence and intimidation, perpetrated in the province of Malaga, as indicated by the National Police in a statement. TORROX

Putting the cart before the horse in Torrox- The  power substation situation: {Translation, summary}
– The construction of an electrical substation in Torrox has triggered a heated conflict between residents and municipal authorities. Despite City Hall’s attempts to calm community concerns, residents have expressed “concerns and fears about potential health impacts” from this project.
– Given the complaints filed by neighbors, the Malaga Environmental Prosecutor’s Office will carry out new investigations into the location and the corresponding licenses. “Currently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation, while we continue to uncover more technical aspects that reinforce our doubts. These issues do not only concern health, but also cover technical and environmental aspects,” the platform representative explained.
– Municipal sources confirmed that all the documentation required in relation to the complaint will be provided to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. In addition, they announced an informative meeting scheduled for this month between spokespersons of the municipal corporation, representatives of Endesa and the residents, “although the exact date is pending consensus”. They assured that the neighbours have been given all the documentation requested.
– {You may remember in a previous article, Torrox said they were doing tests to ensure safety, and I expressed doubts Torrox had the equipment or technicians required to do so. Well, I was right! They now admit that they will have to bring in outside help, from the University of Malaga, to do the testing. But wait, it gets worse…now they want to delay the safety testing until AFTER the facility is completed! If it fails safety testing, even more money will be needed to be spent to either remove or repair it. It beggars belief! -Ed.}
– Here is the logic defying statement from Torrox Town Hall. They stated that “a report by the University of Malaga (UMA) will be carried out AFTER the construction and commissioning of the substation to assess its impact on the health of the residents.” Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/provincia/Fiscalia-Medo-Ambiente-subestacion-electrica-Torrox_0_1854415450.html

Torrox takes to the streets again to say no to the Endesa electrical substation: {Translation}
– The people of Torrox have once again taken to the streets to protest against the decision of the Town Hall to allow Endesa to build an electricity substation next to two schools, a secondary school and a housing estate.
– The demonstration, organised by the Plataforma Ciudadana contra la Subestación en Torrox Park, started with some 300 people from the Convento de Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves and gathered some 500 people in the Plaza de la Constitución. The affected families feel “belittled” by the mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, who, according to them, is dedicated to “spreading a campaign of defamation against some members of the Platform, using the municipal radio, without admitting a dialogue between him and the affected families”.
– And they recall that recently, the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Malaga has admitted for processing the complaint filed by the Citizens’ Platform against the electricity substation that Endesa is building in Torrox Park. The Prosecutor took the decision after receiving a written complaint filed by the group, which points the finger at Endesa and Torrox Town Hall for alleged irregularities in the construction of the electricity substation in this residential and expansion area.
– The renowned lawyer Francisco Alfonso Castro, special guest at the mobilization, agreed to say a few words and stressed that “this fight is fair for two reasons, one is to defend our best heritage, our children and young people who are the future, the other reason is the legality because the whole procedure is invalid, the law has been forced by economic interests …”.
– Spokespersons of the Platform read a manifesto to send a clear message to Mr. Medina: “it is not about fighting against us, it is about fighting with us. We are families, Torrox deserves respect, these children deserve respect.

NERJA

Decapitated mountain goats found in the Maro-Cerro Gordo area: {Translation, summary}
– Amateur photographers have denounced the appearance in recent days of decapitated mountain goats in the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo nature reserve, located between the provinces of Malaga and Granada, a situation which they claim is not new and which they point to poachers.
– Nerja Town Hall is not aware of any recent discovery of such an animal in this condition, but Ismael Ramírez, a keen nature photographer, told EFE that he himself found a headless mountain goat a few days ago in the area of Cala del Pino, in the municipality of Nerja.
– He claims that another photographer found days after him another wild mammal of this type decapitated in the same enclave and complains that the authorities and the security forces do not solve this problem despite the complaints from the group of these enthusiasts. Ecologists in Action denounce fecal discharges in the Maro area in Nerja: {Translation}
– Ecologists in Action have denounced a sewage spill in Maro, in the municipality of Nerja. According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Gabinete de Estudios de la Naturaleza de la Axarquía, the complaint has been presented to the Provincial Delegation for the Environment, and the Nerja Town Hall has also been notified.
– Specifically, in the same note they explain that a few days ago this association verified “directly a strong stench of faecal remains in the Barranco del Arco, to the north of the town of Maro”.
– To check the origin of this discharge, they went up the ravine “and found that the source was in a sewage digester tank located in the Nerja campsite, located upstream”, as they have pointed out. They explained that the Barranco del Arco ravine “continues downstream, bordering Maro and flowing into the Cala de Maro, close to the Paraje Natural de Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo”.
– Thus, they have indicated that “it has been confirmed that this is an illegal dumping, which has a component of land pollution and another of marine pollution, both constituting a crime against the environment, which could justify a complaint to the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office of the Provincial Court of Malaga”.
– The purpose of the complaint is that “the campsite is immediately forced to stop this discharge of untreated waste water” and, furthermore, “to build a new chamber or tank to ensure watertightness in accordance with current regulations and, what would be better, to connect the sewerage to the existing one in the area to transport the sewage to the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) of Nerja”. iPhone users are experiencing a nasty iOS 17 bug, and there is a workaround, though we don’t know why it works:
– It’s not unusual for mobile operating systems to come with bugs, and that’s true for both iOS and Android. But iPhone users have recently noticed that iOS 17 contains a particularly irritating glitch that has the potential to drive you to distraction.
– As documented by multiple users on Reddit, in Apple’s support forums and elsewhere, the iOS App Switcher can appear when you’re typing in an app like Messages, despite not being activated by the user. That means your typing gets interrupted by a screen showing your open apps. While some users can return to the app they were typing in, for others, their iPhones actually launch a different app by themselves.
– Fortunately, there is a workaround that multiple users have said fixed the bug for them. First, open the Settings app on your iPhone, then head to Accessibility. Under the Physical and Motor section, select Touch, then disable the toggle next to Reachability. It’s not known why turning off Reachability fixes the bug. Where and at what price you can sell these valuable two-euro coins – advice from an expert:
– We must be clear about certain aspects beforehand, and locate websites or physical shops carefully in order to obtain what we are looking for. Firstly, according to numismatic experts such as Javier Mercado, CEO of Coleccionistas de Monedas, there are three basic factors to consider if we want to know the real value of our pieces. Clearly, without this information, we will not be able to negotiate prices. These aspects are:
1. Uniqueness: this is usually one of the most crucial factors in determining the value of a coin. If you have a piece with a rarity or error, its price will undoubtedly multiply exponentially.
2. Degree of conservation: together with the previous one, the state of conservation is another fundamental aspect. For example, for any of your two-euro coins to be valuable, they need to be in perfect condition.
3. Price trends: as you know, not all two-euro coins are worth the same. In fact, some are only just joining the list of the most valuable coins. This is the case of the Lithuanian coin of this value minted in 2021, which has already reached a price of 2,000 euros. Acquiring these coins as soon as they are minted can be a very good investment if you want to get your money back and earn a little more after a few years have passed.
