Another Healthcare Nightmare- A minor who lost a testicle due to negligence in Malaga will be compensated with more than 52,000 euros: {Translation}
– The Andalusian Health Service (SAS) will compensate a 17-year-old boy with 52,897 euros for the loss of a testicle following medical negligence suffered in a health centre located in the town of Mollina in Malaga, according to the agreement to which EFE has had access.
– The lawyer representing the family, Damián Vázquez, a member of the Asociación El Defensor del Paciente, filed an administrative claim for damages following the poor medical care which caused the minor to lose his testicle, according to a statement issued by the legal services.
– On 28 November 2022, the young man, accompanied by his family, went to a health centre in Mollina because of unbearable pain in one testicle which he had been suffering for about two hours and which even made him leave school to go to the health centre.
– The doctor, without examining him and without carrying out any tests, found that the inflammation was indeed noticeable and the pain palpable, but proceeded to discharge him without further ado, with a diagnosis of orchitis and recommended rest without referring him to a hospital or specialist. The doctor told the patient and his mother not to worry, that the pain was minor and that the inflammation of the testicle was caused by bacteria or a virus, according to Damián Vázquez, who explained to EFE that the family trusted the doctor’s judgement.
– The following day, as the pain was “unbearable”, they went to the emergency department of the Antequera Regional Hospital, where he was diagnosed with testicular torsion after carrying out the necessary tests for a conclusive and well-founded diagnosis. The doctors decided to operate on the minor but had to remove the testicle because it was torsioned and necrotic, and told the family that they did not understand why they had not referred him or carried out a series of diagnostic tests such as a Doppler ultrasound, since in these cases the time factor is fundamental and if no action is taken within a few hours, the testicle is lost. – The PSOE spokesperson in Torrox Town Hall, Mari Nieves Ramírez, has proposed a new step to try to stop the construction of the new electricity substation in the municipality which is being built in the vicinity of several schools.
– Weeks ago, the PSOE requested that the Consistory’s legal services issue a technical report on the procedure followed for the approval of the action project prior to the granting of the building permit, given the possibility that there may be legal loopholes to stop the works. “For the moment, said Ramírez, we have had no response and therefore from the PSOE we want to continue putting possibilities on the table to achieve the objective that our neighbours have set and that we socialists are defending, which is none other than to stop the works where they are being executed with the license granted by the Popular Party and look for an alternative location”.
– “In this sense, she added, we are going to seek external advice from experts in the field to provide us with an exhaustive and detailed analysis of the procedure followed by our Town Hall and to tell us if it is possible today to revoke the building permit”. Ecologists denounce the “drying up” of the Algarrobo river by irrigators and the destruction of a river park in Valle-Niza: {Translation}
– The Gabinete de Estudios de la Naturaleza de la Axarquía (GENA-Ecologistas en Acción) has filed complaints about the alleged misuse of water resources by irrigators in the Sayalonga and Algarrobo rivers, and the destruction of a river park in Valle-Niza, near the Niza Beach urbanisation. GENA has expressed concern about water management, claiming that the Algarrobo irrigation community has diverted water from the Sayalonga river, leaving the Algarrobo river bed completely dry for extended periods.
– “The Algarrobo irrigation community has been carrying out a practice for the last two years of taking water for irrigation from the so-called ‘acequia nueva’ in Sayalonga. In this way, by putting all the water through the pipes in this ditch, from Corumbela to the mouth, the Algarrobo riverbed runs completely dry,” the ecologists argue in a communiqué.
– On the other hand, GENA has denounced to the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) and the Town Hall of Vélez-Málaga the destruction of a fluvial park in Valle-Niza. According to their reports, clearing work has been carried out in the Niza Beach urbanisation, depositing the rubble in the valley of the Truche stream. “These actions have caused the destruction of trees and disturbed the natural course of the stream, raising concerns about possible flooding and irreparable damage to the surrounding ecosystem,” they add.
– The environmental association considers that this rubble filling of the stream valley is being done “without any preventive measures to facilitate natural rainfall drainage and turning the site into a potentially flood-prone area”. Concern among residents after recent spate of 7 burglaries in Axarquía town: A spate of burglaries in the Parque Victoria area to the north of Rincón de la Victoria in Malaga province has left residents concerned about further incidents and safety in the area. Magnitude 3.5 earthquake recorded in south of Spain:
– Spain’s National Geographic Institute (IGN) has confirmed that a magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded early this Tuesday morning (12 December) with its epicentre in the town of Jayena, in Andalucía’s Granada province. According to the IGN on its website, the earthquake was registered at a depth of 63 kilometres at 1.43am and there is no record of it having been felt in other municipalities in the province.
