HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. So please now consider the value you have received this passing year and show your support with a donation. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained! The 3% group finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

Total Donations Received As Of Today: 55
(Last year = 96. New goal = 150, 3% of subscribers, a modest target. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained!)
UPDATE 14/12/23: As of today we are at 37% of the modest 150 donations goal with 24 days remaining. This year there will have been 250 daily issues. A €25 annual donation equals only 10 cents per issue, or €2.10 per month with 21 issues. Surely DigameXtra is worth €2 per month to 3 of each 100 subscribers. 150 donations x €25 = €3750 for 1 year work; €3750 / 52 weeks = €72.12 per week for my 35hrs of work; €72.12 / 35hrs = €2.06 per hour … a 40 cent per hour raise from last year!
A €10 annual donation is only 4 cents per issue. Sorry to the 6 people that sent €10, and the 3 who donated €5, I have no idea what you are thinking or what your financial situation is, but that is less than an appropriate donation to reward my year of hard work, in my opinion. If that is genuinely all you can afford, then I thank you for doing your best and I sincerely hope the situation improves for the both of us. But people living in real homes and driving cars (things I can only dream of while sitting in the 15 sq meter box I call home) can afford more than €10 per year. Heck, I could afford €25 per year and I’m the poorest person I know! Others agree I deserve proper support, see their comments in today’s Recommendations Section. Huge thanks to those of you who have donated appropriately, as well as to the churches who took up collections for DigameXtra.

Fundraiser Feedback: Good morning Naythan,
I have never really appreciated how little support you get in donations in order to keep your post going. If you don’t mind me saying, you run in my opinion a very professional information service which in itself is a good business model. I would imagine that unless you get the financial support you need you will in the near future have to start making some changes in what you offer to the general public free of charge.
I would simply explain this to your readers and let them know that you do need more financial support otherwise you may have to make some changes going forward…. If I am correct with my assumptions and you do not receive further support in reaching 150 donations then your readers will not be surprised if changes do happen in the future.
Keep up the good work.
Kind regards, R.
***********
Fundraiser Feedback: Hi Naythan,
I see from the figures you publish that there has been a fairly slow response to your request for donations, and although undoubtedly some people are struggling to pay their bills, I would think that the majority of your subscribers could afford something.
It is a small price to pay for something that arrives in our inbox 5 days a week, that is both helpful and informative, and as you say, something many of us look forward to reading with our morning coffee.
As is often the case however, there are those who could afford to contribute but prefer to freeload their way through life.
In order to prompt these people into paying something, could you not inform them that unless they contribute something, they will be removed from the mailing list. I am sure that those people who are struggling would email you to explain their situation, and could be reinstated if you think genuine.
These are just thoughts, it would be such a pity to lose Digamextra because of some peoples unwillingness to contribute.
I would like to thank you for the excellent work you put into providing us with Digamextra every day, and wish you a very merry Christmas, and a healthy and happy 2024.
Best wishes, S.

Editor’s Reply: I appreciate the encouragement. Yes, if the donation goal is not met, I will have to consider these suggestions. The world is changing, everything is more expensive. Hard work must be appropriately rewarded. We either adapt or get left behind. I do the work I do for those who appreciate my efforts. The Sponsors generously pay the production expenses, the readers donate to compensate me for the past year of work I have done. Those unwilling to support my efforts should probably stick to Fakebook.

SPAIN
Sanchez takes a beating in the plenary session of the European Parliament debating the Amnesty law: {Translation, summary}
– {Current EU leader Sánchez appears for the amnesty debate in a poorly fitted, off-the-rack suit, with a cockeyed tie knot. Guess he is embracing the used car salesman chic as part of his inclusiveness mandate. See pic. -Ed}
– The tone of the debate rose as Spanish MEPs took the floor. The PP spokeswoman, Dolors Montserrat, said that “Spain will not give up because nobody laughs at Spain” and we say “no” to the amnesty law, “in the streets, in the courts” because it means “selling the dignity of Spain for seven votes”. For Montserrat, amnesty is only an exchange of “impunity for power”.
– The leader of Cs, Adrián Vázquez, was also very harsh, accusing Sánchez of explaining “priorities that are not true” because the real priorities “Sánchez cannot explain”. At the same time, Vázquez explained the manipulative steps taken by the government “replacing respected ministers” in key posts for political reasons and ended with a warning: “Your story, if you don’t rectify it, is not going to end well”.
– For Jorge Buxadé, from Vox, Sánchez “is narcissistic and manipulative” and has “no scruples”, and gave as examples the bad distribution of European funds and issues such as migration. “His narcissism has ruined the Spanish presidency,” he said, “and now he wants to strike a blow against democracy” with the amnesty. Buxadé claimed that the amnesty law is “manifestly unconstitutional” and points the finger at judges. “It is a step backwards for centuries”, concluded the leader of Vox in the European Parliament, and defined the pact as “a criminal agreement”. Sánchez, he concluded, “will go down in history for trying to destroy everything that our parents and grandparents built with effort”.
– The President of the Government, on the other hand, did receive praise from Iratxe García, who teamed up with Sánchez to defend the social democratic plans for the EU “against the right and the far right” and accused Manfred Weber of planning to “make Mr Abascal vice-president of Spain”. Meanwhile, EPP leader Manfred Weber threatened to push for a European Parliament committee of enquiry into the amnesty. Spanish graduates have the second lowest employment rate in the European Union: {Translation, summary}
– This comes from the latest annual report of the Knowledge and Development Foundation (CYD), published today, Wednesday.
– Spain’s public university needs to address a generational change – half of its professors and a third of its Teaching and Research Staff will retire in ten years – and improve its employability, since Spanish graduates have the second lowest employment rate of the 27 countries of the European Union.
– According to the vice president of the CYD Foundation, Francesc Solé, the country’s university system continues to advance in the different performance indicators, “although at a relatively slow pace. If you aspire to compete globally in an increasingly changing and uncertain world, you should advance at the same pace, or at a higher rate, than the university systems that are in the lead,” said Solé.
– The report also alludes to the approval, in 2022, of the Organic Law of the University System, which it states “is not bold enough to promote the reform that the university needs and is limited by the imbalance between the autonomy of the universities, the capacity effective management and accountability.” Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/1463179/los-graduados-espanoles-presentan-la-segunda-tasa-de-empleo-mas-baja-de-la-union-europea/
ANDALUCÍA
Junta de Andalucía proposes desalination master plan to Spain’s national government:
– Junta president Juanma Moreno put forward the plan on Sunday 10 December to the Spanish government on the third day of his trip to Dubai for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) where he visited the third largest desalination plant in the world, alongside representatives from Spanish water companies Veolia and Hidralia. Speaking to journalists, Moreno said that, given the serious problem of drought in Andalucía, it is crucial to understand what other dry parts of the world are doing to combat the issue. He pointed out that Andalucía will lack water and, therefore, “we must make every effort and use all resources” to ensure supply. “From Huelva to Almeria desalination plants must be built that allow us to have and recover more cubic hectometres, not only for irrigation, agriculture or livestock, but also for tourism and for human consumption,” Moreno added.
– The construction of a desalination plant can take between three and five years. There are currently projects under way, such as the desalination plant of Vélez-Málaga, and other works in Almeria and Malaga provinces. He also referred to the emergency projects of portable desalination plants in Axarquía and Marbella.

The commuter train network is “collapsed” and is a “mousetrap and unsafe”: {Translation, summary}
– Suburban trains have ‘absolutely collapsed’ and stations are a ‘mousetrap’ and ‘unsafe’. This is how Miguel Montenegro, secretary of the railway sector of CGT in Andalucia, describes the reality of the Andalucian railway. The trade union CGT has demanded once again this Wednesday a quality public railway within the framework of the Platform in Defence of the Rural Train in Andalucia (PTRA). “The platforms are collapsed, the tunnels do not admit any more trains and do not meet the minimum conditions in terms of civil protection, we hope nothing will ever happen.”
– One of their main demands is to take advantage of the railway infrastructures that “already exist” to increase the number of local trains. The province of Malaga has a network that has become too small. To the west of the capital, the suburban railway dies in Fuengirola and does not reach Marbella. If we look at the other side of the province, the east is cut off by rail. Axarquia “could be perfectly connected by train with the capital and the other coast”. Montenegro explains that, for example, “at one time there were trains such as the one from Zafarraya to Málaga or from Málaga to Coín and it would be a matter of recovering that”: “Our ancestors knew how to structure the province and this was abandoned due to political decisions”.
– Inland, communication is also limited due to “political blindness”. “It is incomprehensible that, given the existence of infrastructures, the C2 line does not connect” the inland towns with the capital and the coast. This line, he recalled, does not reach Antequera city and Ronda is not linked to Bobadilla Station, preventing “citizens from Ronda to come to the capital”. A mobility problem which, by solving it, “also helps to prevent the rural areas from being abandoned”. He also complained about the lack of a section linking the C2 line with Campanillas, the university and the PTA, “a part of the city that has 30,000 users who go to work”. “They want us to continue to be plunged into the 19th century and for Malaga to be the north of Africa and not the south of Europe,” he denounced. TORROX
Torrox celebrates its traditional Fiesta de las Migas this Sunday with tasting and concerts: {Translation}
– Undoubtedly one of the typical dishes that define the gastronomy of the place with the best climate in Europe, Torrox, is migas (as well as ensaladilla arriera, fennel stew, maimones soup and pumpkin stew). That is why every December they celebrate their traditional Fiesta de las Migas, a festival declared to be of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia, which will take place this Sunday 17th December in the town’s Plaza de la Constitución.
– Migas is a traditional dish of the municipality whose basic ingredients, such as oil, garlic, water, semolina flour and salt, make it a recurring meal for farm workers. Nowadays, it is still one of the most popular and characteristic dishes of Torrox despite its simplicity, as it is a culinary delight that is usually accompanied by the equally famous ensaladilla arriera, consisting of cod, olives, spring onions, strong oranges and oil.
**The programme of the Fiesta de las Migas of Torrox**
11:00 a.m. – Gala of the 42nd Fiesta de las Migas in the Plaza de la Constitución
11:15 a.m. – Performance of the Torrox Choir Group of the Municipality of Torrox
12:00 – Performance by the Grupo de Coros y Danzas de Torrox, opening speech by Modesto Barragán, director and presenter of the programme Andalucía Directo on Canal Sur Televisión and the playing of the conch shell by Angelita Villena.
13:30 – Departure of the authorities to the Llano de la Almanzara, accompanied by the Panda de Verdiales Coto Tres Hermanas band for the tasting of migas. The Crumbs group and the Pastoral de Frigiliana will provide entertainment on the Llano de la Almanzara.

Benajarafe will celebrate a full Christmas, full of activities and a skating rink: {Translation}

And there will also be a workshop led by our neighbor Pedrita Parker, among other activities. And we leave for Thursday, the 28th, the great attraction of this Christmas in Benajarafe, since a skating rink will be installed. LANJARÓN
Fire in Lanjarón affects about two hectares of agricultural land: {Translation, summary}
– A fire in the Cortijo Mezquerina area of Lanjarón, in the Alpujarra of Granada, affected about two hectares of agricultural land, as indicated by the Fire Fighting Service of Andalusia, which has considered it controlled at 11:30 am on Wednesday. The fire had been stabilised since 00:30 hours after it broke out last Tuesday night. Infoca troops are still working on finishing and liquidation tasks.
– After the fire broke out Tuesday night, the Lanjarón Town Hall asked via social networks the residents of cortijos in the area of Mimbrón Chaparra and adjoining areas to leave the area urgently without obstructing the track of the Chaparra because the strong wind and the night made it difficult to control the fire. CLIMATE CHANGE
Cop28 landmark deal agreed to ‘transition away’ from fossil fuels:
– Nearly 200 countries at the Cop28 climate summit have agreed to a deal that for the first time calls on all nations to transition away from fossil fuels to avert the worst effects of climate change.
– Despite the urging of more than 130 countries and scientists and civil society groups, the agreement did not include an explicit commitment to phase out or even phase down fossil fuels. Instead, it reached a compromise that called on countries to contribute to global efforts to transition “away from fossil fuels in energy systems in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade, so as to achieve net zero by 2050 in keeping with the science”. The 480-euro monthly benefit you can get even if you haven’t worked for a year: {Translation}
– In Spain, in order to receive unemployment benefit after being dismissed, you have to have paid at least 360 days of contributions in the previous six years. However, there are people who are dismissed when they have not even completed one year of their contract.
– For them, the government offers the subsidy for insufficient contributions. This is a subsidy of 480 euros per month that can be applied for by unemployed people with incomes of no more than 75% of the minimum wage.
The duration of this benefit, also known as “mini paro” (mini-unemployment), will depend on the number of months of contributions and whether or not the person has family responsibilities.
– You will be paid for the number of months you have contributed (3 months for 3 months of contributions, 4 for 4 months of contributions). If you have paid contributions for 6 months or more, you can be paid for 6 months and extend for a further 6 months.
– In the case of loss of part-time work, the amount of 480 euros will be paid in proportion to the hours of the last contract. Source, Spanish: https://andaluciainformacion.es/andalucia/1462908/la-ayuda-de-480-euros-que-puedes-cobrar-aunque-no-hayas-trabajado-un-ano/
