HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

 I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. The 3% group finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

-Holiday Donation Info-
You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, after 2pm M-F by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Both the door and the mailbox have the name HARRIS on them. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you may need is my name and email address, see those below. Typically you will only need my email address. Remember, this is an “eGift card” sent to me by Amazon, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):

Total Donations Received As Of Today: 63

(Last year = 96. New goal = 150, 3% of subscribers, a modest target. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained!)

UPDATE 15/12/23: As of today we are at 42% of the 150 donations goal with 23 days remaining. This year there will have been 250 daily issues. A €25 annual donation equals only 10 cents per issue, or €2.10 per month with 21 issues. Surely DigameXtra is worth €2 per month to 3 of each 100 subscribers. 150 donations x €25 = €3750 for 1 year work; €3750 / 52 weeks = €72.12 per week for my 35hrs of work; €72.12 / 35hrs = €2.06 per hour … a 40 cent per hour raise from last year!

A €10 annual donation is only 4 cents per issue. If that is genuinely all you can afford, then I thank you for doing your best and I sincerely hope the situation improves for the both of us. But people living in real homes and driving cars (things I can only dream of while sitting in the 15 sq meter box I call home) can afford more than €10 per year. Heck, I could afford €25 per year and I’m the poorest person I know! Others agree I deserve proper support, see their comments in today’s Recommendations Section. Huge thanks to those of you who have donated appropriately, as well as to the churches who took up collections for DigameXtra.

MOONETTE – Organic Skincare for Mature Skin

We are a Torrox-based company specialising in the creation of formulae which help prevent premature skin ageing. We are committed to making effective products at affordable prices.
Your skin health matters to us. How you feed your skin is as important as how you feed your body. Why settle for anything less than natural and organic?
As our skin is the first layer of our defence against microbial infections, ultraviolet radiation and environmental contamination it plays a vital role in our health. As we grow older, however, our skin becomes thinner, wrinkled, and more sensitive; hence it requires the use of treatments containing specific ingredients to the care of treating mature skin.
Recognising this need we have created a range of formulae which help
-slow down ageing process by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
-improve facial complexion and eliminate blemishes.
At Moonette, we are passionate about health, beauty and plants. Your skin will benefit from the properties of botanic essential oils combined with a selection of nutrients for deep hydration, cell revitalization and antioxidant effect, all sourced from the finest natural ingredients with gorgeous fragrances.
Naturally, we care about our planet and feel the need to help reduce the sheer volumes of plastics waste that are generated daily around the globe. Presently, we are minimizing the usage of plastic materials in our production while seeking alternative forms of packaging. To help reduce pollution we are asking all local customers to recycle or reuse their Moonette skincare containers, and offering a small discount on future purchases to customers recycling containers.

Inflammation – A Psychological Thriller:
– Set in London, Brighton, Oxford, and Málaga; this fast paced novel follows Adam, a Psychologist, as he struggles to cope with life after the brutal murder of his truest love, Lorelei, at the hands of her abusive ex-partner. In the midst of his grief, and the guilt from his sense of having failed her; he lives on countdown, awaiting the release of the perpetrator. Furious with a criminal justice system that by its very nature only ever acts after the event, and increasingly feeling the need to do something for the cause in the meantime; the obsessive urge to intervene using his psychological skills, overpowers him. Will he even make it to the release date, or will he already have gone too far?
– I wrote this novel in and around Málaga province; in Torrox and Nerja particularly. It is a psychological/suspense/crime thriller, and would certainly be rated 18+ in places. It is available on Amazon in paperback and ebook in various countries. The links for the UK and Spain are below, and it is best to order it from where you currently are, and/or to where you would like it delivered. I very much hope you enjoy it (please leave a nice amazon review if so); and a big heartfelt thank you to anyone who orders it, and in doing so, is supporting an independent author.

Fundraiser Feedback: Good morning Naythan,
I have never really appreciated how little support you get in donations in order to keep your post going. If you don’t mind me saying, you run in my opinion a very professional information service which in itself is a good business model. I would imagine that unless you get the financial support you need you will in the near future have to start making some changes in what you offer to the general public free of charge.
I would simply explain this to your readers and let them know that you do need more financial support otherwise you may have to make some changes going forward…. If I am correct with my assumptions and you do not receive further support in reaching 150 donations then your readers will not be surprised if changes do happen in the future.
Keep up the good work.
Kind regards, R.

***********

Fundraiser Feedback: Hi Naythan,
I see from the figures you publish that there has been a fairly slow response to your request for donations, and although undoubtedly some people are struggling to pay their bills, I would think that the majority of your subscribers could afford something.
It is a small price to pay for something that arrives in our inbox 5 days a week, that is both helpful and informative, and as you say, something many of us look forward to reading with our morning coffee.
As is often the case however, there are those who could afford to contribute but prefer to freeload their way through life.
In order to prompt these people into paying something, could you not inform them that unless they contribute something, they will be removed from the mailing list. I am sure that those people who are struggling would email you to explain their situation, and could be reinstated if you think genuine.
These are just thoughts, it would be such a pity to lose Digamextra because of some peoples unwillingness to contribute.
I would like to thank you for the excellent work you put into providing us with Digamextra every day, and wish you a very merry Christmas, and a healthy and happy 2024.
Best wishes, S.

Editor’s Reply: I appreciate the encouragement. Yes, if the donation goal is not met, I will have to consider these suggestions. The world is changing, everything is more expensive. Hard work must be appropriately rewarded. We either adapt or get left behind. I do the work I do for those who appreciate my efforts. The Sponsors generously pay the production expenses, however I rely on the readers to donate to compensate me for the past year of work I have done. If you have not done so, please donate today. Thank you.

SPAIN

EU Parliament’s parties accuse Sánchez of “bringing the tension he causes in Spain to Europe”: {Translation, summary}
– Pedro Sánchez’s words in the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday have generated a common opinion in most of the political families represented in the European Parliament. Even the social democrats – of which the PSOE is a member. Parliamentarians from different parties accuse the Prime Minister of “polarising” European politics with his speech “transferring to Europe” the “tension that his management” is causing in Spain. The EU’s leaders are also taking into account the fact that in Brussels there is a coalition government between social democrats and conservatives that Sánchez “never even considered” after 23 July.
– As OKDIARIO had previously reported, Pedro Sánchez used his speech in the European Parliament to talk more about domestic politics than about Europe. Something that did not go down well – bearing in mind that he was appearing as the rotating president of the EU-27. Even the European Social Democratic Party, whose representatives in Strasbourg did not applaud Sánchez’s speech in unison, lamented on Tuesday that “he used his office to sell himself personally”.
– Both in his initial 20-minute speech – doubling the time he had been authorised to speak – and in his reply, at the end and without listening to the answers he was given, Pedro Sánchez “spoke more about himself and how he has managed to revalidate his post” than “the project that Spain proposed for Europe during the Spanish presidency”, which is about to end. “The only thing he did was to boast”, say the Liberal group, of measures of a national nature. Did Sanchez Tell A Huge Lie In Speech To The European Parliament To Further Divide Spain’s Citizens? So Much For Socialist Inclusiveness!: {Translation}
– Vox on Thursday denied having proposed initiatives to recover the names of people or elements related to the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, accusing the president, Pedro Sánchez, of “lying” in the European Parliament.
– Sánchez told European People’s Party (EPP) President Manfred Weber on Wednesday that the threat to democracy is the advance of the far right and pointed to the “irresponsibility” of the traditional right for paving the way for it with coalition governments.
– He then lashed out at the policies of PP and Vox in autonomous communities and asked Weber if “it would also be your plan to return to the streets and squares of Berlin the names of the leaders of the Third Reich”. The president’s words offended Weber.
*LACK OF ARGUMENTS*
– On Thursday, Vox’s spokeswoman in the Senate, Paloma Gómez {pic}, denied in an interview with Europa Press that her party had proposed rescuing Franco’s street names, accusing Sánchez of “making it up” due to a “lack of arguments”.
– “The comparison made by Sánchez is absurd,” the senator said, before affirming that, in her opinion, the president did it “to generate controversy”. “Everything he is saying is a lie, it has not been demonstrated that we, for example, who govern in coalition with the PP in autonomous communities, have done anything in that sense, nor has it been proposed”, he said.
– During the day, the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, called it an “unacceptable insult” that the president compared his party to Nazism in the European Parliament. For him, “trying to compare Vox to one of the worst regimes in the history of humanity is an unacceptable insult”. He also equated Nazism with communism and pointed out that “both are responsible for the most atrocious crimes”. – These prices rose most in November in Andalucia compared with the previous year: in food and non-alcoholic beverages, with an increase of 9.2% (-0.4 points compared with the previous month); alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 7.5% (-0.2 points); restaurants and hotels, 6.1% (-0.5 points) and other goods and services, 3.9% (0.2 points); Medicine, 3.4% (0.3 points); Communications, 3.3% (-0.1 points); Education, 3% (0.2 points); Leisure and Culture, 2.4% (-1.0 points); Household goods, 2.3%; Clothing and footwear, 1% (2.8 points); and finally transport, 0.3% (-1.5 points).

– Core inflation (excluding unprocessed food and energy products) fell seven tenths in November to 4.5%, a rate 1.3 points higher than that of the general CPI and the lowest since April 2022, when it stood at 4.4%. Andalucian reservoirs gain 14 cubic hectometres in the last week to 19.5%: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian reservoirs continue to increase their water reserve for the second consecutive week up to 19.5% and stand at 2,161 cubic hectometers (hm3), good news but still far from last year’s water reserve, specifically 351 hm3 lower, according to data published this Thursday.
– Specifically, the Andalusian reservoirs have 2,161 hm3 in total, 14 more compared to the previous week, when they were at 2,147. This represents 19.5% of the water reserve, which is 3.1 percentage points lower compared to the previous year, when, with 2,512 hm3, they were at 22.6%.
– In the last week, the water stored in the reservoirs of the Guadalquivir basin increased two tenths to 19.3% with a total of 1,547 cubic hectometres, while that of the Andalusian Mediterranean Basin decreased one tenth to 19.7%, with a total of 231 hm3.
– At the national level, the Spanish water reserve is at 45.7% of its total capacity and the reservoirs currently store 25,621 cubic hectometers of water, increasing in the last week, from December 4 to 11, by 615 cubic hectometers (1.1% of the current total capacity of the reservoirs). COSTA DEL SOL

Portable desalination units on the Costa del Sol- what is the delivery time, how much do they cost and how many people would they serve?:
– The range of portable desalination units is huge. Some will fit into a briefcase and others could supply populations of tens-of-thousands of inhabitants. In disaster situations, some small ones that process 3 cubic metres per hour can be used – they have their own generator and collection pump.
– The most common units go inside something like a shipping container.
– The largest can process 25,000 cubic metres per day. One unit producing 5,000 cubic metres per day can supply a population of about 41,000 inhabitants.
– A small one to produce 700 euros per cubic metre per day will cost about 350,000 euros. In the case of the 5,000 cubic metres one which can supply about 41,000 inhabitants, it will be about 2.8 million. And up to four or five times more in the case of larger ones. The cost of land, pipes and catchments is separate. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/portable-desalination-units-the-costa-sol-what-20231213121003-nt.html

NERJA

Board activates the procedures for a company to charge for access to the Chíllar de Nerja river: {Translation, summary}
– After years of complaints, overcrowding and unfulfilled promises, to the point that the Town Hall decided last August to close the access by decree, the Junta de Andalucía has taken the first firm steps to establish a regulation on access to the Chíllar river site in Nerja.
– Thus, it is proposed to establish “a system of ticket sales and access and route control, establishing control points with specialised personnel, allowing a controlled activity, with the capacity to respond in cases of emergency”. The Board’s proposal is for a system of ticket sales through a web platform, promoting advance sales, as is done at the Caminito del Rey.
– The initial estimated number of visitors would be 500 people per day, with an estimated price of between six and 12 euros, including visitor insurance. The entrance hours would be from Monday to Sunday from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., with the withdrawal of customers starting at 6.00 p.m. so that the facilities would be closed by 8.00 p.m., according to the Junta’s document.
– There has been some pushback from tax payers against fees to access public spaces.

TECH

iPhone users say Apple’s iOS 17.2 update is RUINING their battery life – Apple denies it is a problem:
– It has only been available for a matter of days. But it seems that Apple’s iOS 17.2 update is already wreaking havoc on the battery life of many iPhones. Several frustrated users have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to discuss the issue, with one claiming they’re now having to charge their iPhone multiple times throughout the day.
– Several excited iPhone users rushed to download it, but it seems that many are now regretting their decision. ‘Since I updated my iPhone SE 2 iOS 17.2 the battery has been draining real fast… It’s 16:37 now… And I have already plugged in my iPhone 2 times,’ they wrote. ‘iOS 17.2 is killing my battery I swear,’ another user tweeted. Another added: ‘IOS 17.2 draining battery a lot man.’ And one vented: ‘Updated to ios 17.2 and its drained my battery so fast. Just use it for 10 minutes to change my contact picture, and it drain from 99 to 91 so fast.’ (Apple has admitted in the past to releasing iOS updates that intentionally depreciate iPhone performance. -Ed.) Malaga airport will be affected by the strike called in Iberia at Christmas: {Translation, summary}
– Union sources said on Wednesday that the stoppages would take place on 29, 30 and 31 December and 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7 January, coinciding with the critical dates of the end of the year and Epiphany.
– The UGT and CCOO unions have called eight days of strike action at Iberia, in the middle of Christmas, in protest because the company, they say, does not accept the provision of “autohandling” (ground service provided by the company itself) at those airports. This extraordinary and vintage historic event brings together an impressive lineup including Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Country Joe McDonald, Odetta, Richie Havens, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, and more, showcasing their prime performances. The star-studded concert served as a fundraiser for the California Chapter of The Committee to Combat Huntington’s Disease, now known as the Hereditary Disease Foundation, as Woody Guthrie himself succumbed to Huntington’s disease in 1967.
