HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. The 3% group finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
-Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods-
You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, after 2pm M-F by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins may be inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! Both the door and the mailbox have the name HARRIS on them. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you may need is my name and email address, see those below. Typically you will only need my email address. Remember, this is an “eGift card” sent to me by Amazon, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO TRANSFERS/APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):

Buy the eGift card for:
Name: N.J. Harris
Email: digamextra@protonmail.com
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 80
(Last year = 96. New goal = 150, 3% of subscribers, a modest target. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained!)
UPDATE 20/12/23: As of today we are at 53% of the 150 donations goal with only 18 days remaining. This year there will have been 250 daily issues. A €25 annual donation equals only 10 cents per issue, or €2.10 per month with 21 issues. Surely DigameXtra is worth €2 per month to 3 of each 100 subscribers. 150 donations x €25 = €3750 for 1 year work; €3750 / 52 weeks = €72.12 per week for my 35hrs of work; €72.12 / 35hrs = €2.06 per hour … a 40 cent per hour raise from last year!

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN
The PP charges against Sánchez for saying now that he will meet with Puigdemont: “Every day the lies are bigger”: {Translation, summary}
– The secretary general of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, has lashed out harshly against the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, for now considering going “swiftly and quickly” to meet with the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont when a few days ago he said that this possible meeting was not on his agenda, something which, in her opinion, shows that “every day the lies get fatter”.
– This is what he said after Sánchez himself confirmed in an informal chat with journalists that he will meet with Puigdemont and also with the leader of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, after having agreed an Amnesty Law to benefit those involved in the pro-Crime with both pro-independence parties.
– Speaking to journalists in the corridors of Congress, Gamarra pointed out that “five days ago” Sánchez said that “no type of meeting with a fugitive from justice was on his agenda”. In his opinion, this is “proof that Pedro Sánchez’s word is worthless today”. “And five days later we know that yes, it was on the agenda. What is clear is that Pedro Sánchez’s lies are getting faster every day, and also that these lies are getting bigger every day”, he exclaimed. Ass-Backwards – What is the deal with left-wing parties requiring approval of laws and completion of projects before discussing them or disclosing the contents? Could they be mentally ill?: {DigameXtra}
– This is a recurring topic. It first came to our attention with liberal democrat Nancy Pelosi famously announcing in the US Congress in 2010 that “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.”
https://www.mediaite.com/tv/the-context-behind-nancy-pelosis-famous-we-have-to-pass-the-bill-quote/
– Locally we have seen this ass-backward logic regarding the new Torrox Power Station; build it first say officials, then do safety tests after it is built, and if it fails, all that time and money is wasted! https://digamextra.com/2023/12/07/digamextra-no-2671-thursday-dec-7th-2023-bridge-holiday-edition/
– Nationally we have seen it with the disastrous ‘Only yes means yes’ law forced thru by Spain’s Socialists without proper debate or legal analysis; due to poor wording, it has now reduced the sentences of hundreds of rapists.
https://www.thelocal.es/20221117/why-is-spain-reducing-prison-sentences-for-rapists
– Now Sanchez is reneging on part the Amnesty deal he made with fugitive Puigdemont for 7 investiture votes; Sanchez now says “he will hold several meetings with Puigdemont and Junqueras and prefers that it be once the Amnesty is approved,” which has already begun its process in the Congress.

-This is an intellectually corrupt, hugely flawed method adopted by liberals to conduct official affairs without public review, wasting tons of tax payer money.
– American conservative radio personality Michael Savage wrote a 2005 New York Times best-seller titled, “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.” Can this really be true? Perhaps. Survey data from a March Pew poll indicates that white liberals disproportionately suffer from mental illness. Researcher Zach Goldberg calculated that ‘very liberal’ poll respondents were dramatically more likely to report a history of mental health conditions. A strong majority of self-identifying white female liberals between ages 18-29 reported a history of a doctor diagnosing them with a mental health condition, much more so than any queried demographic.

A vehicle ends up overturned in the sea after leaving the road in Torrox Costa: {Translation}
– At 08:00 this Tuesday morning, an incident on the roads of Torrox, specifically on the old N-340 at Torrox Costa, kept passers-by on their toes when a vehicle went off the road at Calaceite, in the municipality of Torrox. The car fell off a cliff over ten metres high after leaving the road at Torrox Costa, and ended up overturning in the water.
– What could have been a tragedy turned out to be a miracle, “as the out-of-control vehicle did not run over a pedestrian walking on the hard shoulder”, according to police sources. Although the driver, a man approximately 43 years old and a stranger to the area, did not escape unharmed. He reportedly suffered serious injuries and bruises, and expressed severe pain in his back after falling into the sea as a result of the accident.
– The rapid response of the emergency services was crucial. The man was immediately taken to the Hospital de La Axarquía in Vélez-Málaga for medical attention. This incident has generated shock amongst local residents and the community, especially considering the near fatal nature of the event.
– According to police sources, the individual is not originally from the area, but there is speculation that he is linked to the music scene in Nerja, where he is a street performer. The investigation into the causes behind this accident is being carried out by the Guardia Civil, although the precise reasons which led to the vehicle leaving the road in Torrox Costa are as yet unknown. Furthermore, the current condition of the driver involved in the incident is unknown. Source, Spanish: https://www.malagahoy.es/provincia/vehiculo-volcado-mar-salirse-Torrox-Costa_0_1858614749.html

10½ year sentence is reduced to 7 years for man who raped a woman at her home in Torrox: {Translation}
– The High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) has reduced from ten and a half years to seven years in prison the sentence imposed by the Court of Malaga on a man for sexually assaulting a woman. It also reduces the probation measure to seven years and the ban on approaching the victim to ten years.
– The events took place in March 2019. The defendant went to the woman’s home, in the town of Torrox, where she lived with her partner, and “guided by the intention of satisfying his sexual desire, with the excuse that he gave at her door asking for a glass of water, after pushing her, he went inside”, according to the Court of Malaga. He closed the door and began to kiss her even though she asked him to leave the property, and then pushed her onto a bed, placing himself on top of her and, holding her by the forearms”, he took off her clothes and sexually assaulted her, according to the proven facts of the sentence, which have now been confirmed by the Andalusian High Court.
– The victim was unable to escape “given that the defendant was on top of her and was holding her arms”. As a result, the woman suffered several injuries and sequelae. He was sentenced to ten and a half years’ imprisonment for the crime of sexual assault and to probation for the same period, as well as a ban on approaching the victim at a distance of less than 500 metres and on communicating with her for 20 years. Compensation was set at 15,000 euros for the moral damages caused, plus the amount established for the injuries.
– The defence lodged an appeal against this judgment, but the appeal court rejected the arguments put forward. However, it points out that the sentencing pronouncements must be adapted to the modifications introduced in Organic Law 10/2022 (known as the Socialist sponsored ‘Only yes is yes’ law), “as this reform is more beneficial for the defendant”; although it also refers to the later reform of this year.
– Thus, it indicates that in the present case, “taking into account the facts described in the factum and considering the use of physical violence to commit the crime, but also taking into account the limited amount of force used and other circumstances”, the sentence of seven years in prison is considered fair. In addition, it also establishes a seven-year probation measure and a ten-year ban on approaching and communicating with the victim, adding a special disqualification from any profession, trade or activity involving regular and direct contact with minors for 12 years. Another Abandoned Baby- Authorities search for family of baby rescued from a bin in Los Palacios (Seville): {Translation, summary}
– The Minister of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Loles López, confirmed this Tuesday that the National Police is looking for the biological family of the baby found alive and with the umbilical cord still hanging in a container in Los Palacios and Villafranca (Seville) by a neighbor when she was going to throw out the trash. She was alerted by the baby’s cries she told investigators.
– López assured that the newborn’s life “is not in danger”, although she pointed out that he arrived at the Hospital de Valme, where he remains hospitalised, with symptoms of hypothermia and with “other issues”.
– A newborn baby abandoned on the ground, in the streets of Malaga city, with the umbilical cord still attached, was found 14 October, just over 2 months ago.

EUROPE
Iceland volcano in Grindavik south-west of Reykjavik erupts after weeks of earthquakes:
– The eruption on Monday night appears to have occurred about four kilometres from the town of Grindavik, the Icelandic Meteorological Office said. The town near Iceland’s main airport evacuated in November after strong seismic activity damaged homes and raised fears of an imminent eruption. The nearby tourist attraction, Blue Lagoon geothermal spa was also closed.
– Some 100 to 200 cubic metres of lava emerged per second, several times more than in previous eruptions in the area, the Met Office said. Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson, a scientist who flew over the site on Tuesday morning onboard a coast guard research flight, told RUV that he estimates twice as much lava had already spewed than the entire month-long eruption on the peninsula this summer. Gudmundsson said the eruption was expected to continue decreasing in intensity, but that scientists have no idea how long it could last.

ENERGY CRISIS
EU to extend emergency gas price cap for another year:
– The European Union is set to extend its emergency cap on gas prices for another 12 months to serve as a safeguard against possible energy price shocks, after energy ministers backed the plan on Tuesday.
– The EU first agreed the gas price limit in December 2022, after months of cripplingly high energy prices caused by Russia slashing gas supplies to Europe after its invasion of Ukraine. Europe’s energy security situation is more comfortable today than during last winter – energy prices are far lower, countries have secured new sources of non-Russian gas, and gas storage is near-full. “Despite the relatively good start of the winter, the geopolitical situation remains very fragile. And these emergency measures help us to shield our consumers against excessive energy prices,” EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said.
– The price cap had been due to expire in February 2024 and will now apply until the end of January 2025. The agreement by ministers on Tuesday needs to be adopted in writing, but that step is usually a formality. The EU’s gas price cap…is designed to apply if European gas prices exceed 180 euros per megawatt hour – a level the benchmark EU gas price has not reached since the depths of Europe’s energy crisis. HEALTH
Health Service Collapse- Rotten corpses with worms, no autopsies in Cádiz due to lack of personnel, butcher recruited as autopsy assistant by incompetent managers:
– The critical situation in the Forensic Pathology Service of the Institute of Legal Medicine of Cadiz has reached a point of no return. They are facing a dramatic scenario, with 27 corpses in an advanced state of decomposition, some of which have been held for two years, in a refrigeration room that does not meet the necessary standards. This fact not only highlights the inadequate storage conditions, but also the operational and administrative collapse of the service, according to Diario de Cádiz on Tuesday.
– The crisis has been triggered by the syncope suffered by the last active forensic assistant, who, after fainting last Friday, has been forced to take indefinite medical leave. This incident has led to the immediate suspension of scheduled autopsies, directly affecting the judicial proceedings and the families of the deceased.
– The response of the Provincial Delegation of the Regional Ministry of Justice to this emergency has been to send a 64 year old substitute, without the necessary training or experience to carry out such work. This reflects the profound disconnect between the needs of the forensic service and the actions of the responsible authorities.
– According to UGT union sources, the root of the problem lies in the failure of the Consejería de Justicia to provide qualified staff. The need for at least four specialised assistants is highlighted, but the reality is that one has retired, another position has been vacant for years, and the rest are incapacitated. This situation has left the forensic doctors without the necessary assistance to carry out their work, effectively paralysing the autopsy service in Cádiz.
– The seriousness of the matter is manifested in the fact that even a butcher has been recruited to fill a vacancy for an autopsy assistant, a decision that has generated indignation and criticism for its inadequacy. UGT has made an urgent call for vacancies to be filled with technical staff trained in pathological anatomy, to prevent these key posts from becoming “a disaster box”.
– The work of autopsy assistants is essential in the judicial process. These professionals are responsible for everything from the reception and preparation of the corpse to assisting in the autopsy, including the weighing and measuring of organs, as well as the conservation and sending of samples. In 2021, 459 autopsies were performed in Cadiz and in 2022, 567, figures that underline the importance of their role and the need for adequate staff.
– Another worrying aspect is the accumulation of corpses in the refrigeration room, which adds to the lack of auxiliary staff. In the Institute’s facilities, there are 30 bodies, including 16 unidentified ones, most of them migrants who perished trying to reach the coast. This situation not only represents a health risk for the workers, but also violates the dignity of the deceased, with bodies rotting in inadequate conditions.
– The UGT has raised the issue at an Occupational Health Roundtable, while the service has informed the General Council of the Judiciary of this anomalous situation. However, the responses have been limited and bureaucracy continues to slow down solutions. Condemnation of the SAS for the death of a patient in the emergency room of the Torrecárdenas Hospital in Almería waiting to be attended to: {Translation, summary}
– The Administrative Court 2 of Almeria has ordered the SAS to pay 200,000 euros to the family of the 74-year-old woman who died in the Emergency Room of the University Hospital Torrecárdenas in 2019 after spending an “extremely excessive amount of time” (over 90 minutes) without “being attended” by the doctor assigned to her and despite her admission being classified as a level II or life-threatening emergency (protocols say such patients must be seen in 15 minutes) .
– The magistrate indicates that the Almeria hospital committed “malpractice of considerable magnitude” and points out that, in this case, “it is not that there was a delay in care, but that the doctor was not even aware that she had been assigned”, while stressing that the presence of the patient, “dependent”, went “unnoticed, simply and unfortunately, for everyone, except for the nurse who carried out the triage”.
– The judgement rejects the allegations made by the centre’s medical management at the oral hearing regarding “high care pressure” on that day, or “technical errors with faults” in the switchboard, and criticises the insurance company in the lawsuit for its “almost amoral and desperate attempt to blame the husband of the deceased for not realising that his wife was not breathing”.
“How can the husband be blamed for not noticing the death, it being absolutely logical that he could have thought that his wife had simply fallen asleep, when the question to be asked is where was the doctor who was supposed to attend to her in less than 15 minutes and where was the auxiliary staff monitoring the waiting room,” the magistrate said.
