HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER
I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. The 3% group finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?
-Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods-
You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, after 2pm M-F by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins may be inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! Both the door and the mailbox have the name HARRIS on them. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you may need is my name and email address, see those below. Typically you will only need my email address. Remember, this is an “eGift card” sent to me by Amazon, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO TRANSFERS/APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/
Buy the eGift card for:
Name: N.J. Harris
Email: digamextra@protonmail.com
Total Donations Received As Of Today: 93
(Last year = 96. New goal = 150, 3% of subscribers, a modest target. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained!)
UPDATE 27/12/23: As of today we are at 62% of the 150 donations goal with only 11 days remaining – 57 donations short. Big thanks to the 93 donors! This year there will have been 250 daily issues. A €25 annual donation equals only 10 cents per issue, or €2.10 per month with 21 issues. Surely DigameXtra is worth €2 per month to 3 of each 100 subscribers. 150 donations x €25 = €3750 for 1 year work; €3750 / 52 weeks = €72.12 per week for my 35hrs of work; €72.12 / 35hrs = €2.06 per hour … a 40 cent per hour raise from last year!

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN
This is the King of Spain’s traditional Christmas message in full, in English:
– At a time of political instability in which the coalition government of Pedro Sánchez is maintained thanks to the support of the independence movement of ERC, Junts and EH Bildu, the monarch underlined the demand to preserve the integrity of the Constitution “as a place of mutual recognition, of acceptance and encounter of all Spaniards, as legitimate holders of national sovereignty.
– The King never shied away from tension in society due to politics and to combat it he demanded that all institutions, starting with the Monarchy itself, conduct themselves with the greatest responsibility and always seeking the general interests of the Spanish people. “Each institution, starting with the King, must place itself in the place that constitutionally corresponds to it, exercise the functions attributed to it and comply with the obligations and duties that the Constitution indicates to it,” he summarised. And, he added, institutions must respect each other “in the exercise of their own powers.”

AXARQUÍA
Several municipalities of Axarquía cut off from phone & Internet service in the middle of Christmas, now restored: {Translation, summary}
– Residents of Benamargosa, Comares and Almáchar, have told AxarquiaPlus about their situation, as they have been without a telephone since Thursday, and therefore have no telecare service available, so necessary for many elderly and dependent people. Since then they have been making calls to the different operators insisting on the need to solve the problem, however, according to them, this is going to take a long time and they will have to wait until the beginning of the week. The situation remains unresolved on this Christmas holiday.
– The Almáchar Town Hall has reported that they have also called Movistar on numerous occasions during these days to report lack of connections or telephone line. “We are aware of the inconvenience this is causing, ATMs shut, elderly people without support, children on holiday without internet access and above all without being able to communicate with family and friends on a day like today,” said the Almachar Town Hall. Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/varios-municipios-de-la-axarquia-incomunicados-en-plena-navidad/
UPDATE: The Town Hall of Almáchar, in a publication on its social networks, has indicated this Tuesday 26/12/23 to its neighbours that “the connection problem is already fixed” and has appealed to those people who still have problems with the wifi to restart their devices (including routers) so that they can be updated. The Consistory of Almáchar advises those affected to file a complaint “for the incident we have had during these days and request a deduction for the days without service from the bill”. The Benamargosa Town Hall has also used its social networks to describe as “outrageous” the time they have spent “cut off”. TORRE DEL MAR
Torre del Mar experiences a wave of robberies: “I am desperate, I have been robbed ten times in less than two weeks”: {Translation, summary}
– Around a dozen establishments in the centre of Torre del Mar have suffered in recent weeks a surge of shoplifting while the shops are open, with more than fifty attacks in total. The pharmacist Alfonso Monllor, who runs a shop in the Viña Málaga area of Torre del Mar, says: “I am desperate, I have been robbed at least ten times in less than two weeks”, according to Diario Sur.
– Monllor provided images of the alleged thieves acting in broad daylight, with total coolness. “They are perfectly identified, they are two men, about 40 years old. They are caught and released again, the court does not send them to jail because they are petty thefts, they say, without violence”, complains the pharmacist of Torre del Mar, who has assured that the National Police has shown him at least fifty complaints corresponding to the last few weeks, all of them corresponding to thefts from businesses in Torre del Mar.
– “I have even stayed inside the shop at night because I was afraid of being robbed again”, confesses the pharmacist, who has been running this establishment in Torre del Mar for more than 20 years. “The employees are afraid, they run after them, sometimes they throw away what they are carrying, creams, packs of parapharmacy products, electric blankets, they are not very expensive products, but, little by little, it is a destruction…”, adds this Torre del Mar businessman, visibly indignant.
– The thefts have occurred in approximately six establishments in Torre del Mar, especially in the Calle del Mar, a pedestrianised area with numerous businesses. Despite the presence of more vigilance, the feeling of impunity persists because, according to Monllor, “there is more vigilance, but neither the local nor the national police can do anything if they let them loose again in court, until a disgrace happens they won’t stop”.
– Police sources have confirmed that they are investigating several dozen complaints of possible thefts and robberies in establishments in Torre del Mar.

RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA
Robbery again in Rincón de la Victoria with assaults on four houses, a struggle with the local police and threats to neighbours: {Translation}
– The urbanisations in the north of Rincón de la Victoria are being robbed again, as happened between 6 and 10 December. On that occasion there were about ten burglaries. This time, at least four robberies have been perpetrated, according to neighbourhood sources from the Guardia Civil and reported by SUR.
– The most recent events are once again worrying neighbours. Now, they include direct and threatening contact with neighbours and law enforcement officers, as well as the escape of the robbers. The method of the robbers is similar. Low-rise houses were chosen, this time in the vicinity of the María del Mar Romera school, therefore closer to the exit to the A-7 motorway that the urbanisation has.
– A witness saw them and was threatened by the perpetrators. The source reports that at around 9.30 p.m. they commented on social networks that there were people in the neighbourhood. He went out onto the balcony and saw them perfectly. “They were wearing hoods and military fatigues, which covered their faces. They had just entered a house next to mine, two doors down. I reprimanded them and they responded and showed me a knife, threatening me. I quickly lost track of them, the witness added.
– Coincidentally, last Thursday night, as part of the special surveillance device set up in Parque Victoria as a result of the robberies, in addition to the civil guards, there were Local Police officers located at the points considered ideal for escaping from the urbanisation area. A couple of officers had a hand-to-hand struggle, but were unable to stop the escape. This was followed by a rapid response by security forces, but to no avail, the robbers managed to get away. TRAVEL NEWS
Germany’s Train Travel to Face Disruptions Throughout the Whole 2024:
– Germany’s train travel will face disruption throughout the whole year in 2024 as members of the German Train Drivers’ Union have voted in favour of keeping an “indefinite strike”. The decision of the Union is expected to affect hundreds of thousands passengers, with Deutsche Ban telling everyone to avoid rail travel during the strikes, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
– During the last strike, around 80 per cent of long-distance trains were cancelled in Germany, and any strike taking place next year is anticipated to have a significant impact on train travel.
– Back on December 7, after the last strike, the boss of GDL, Claus Weselsky, said that the union would not be holding another strike this year. He said that the next strike will take place on January 7, meaning that there will be no disruptions in the remaining days for this year.
