HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER

I can only produce DigameXtra with the financial support of my readers. This year’s goal is to receive a donation from 3% of subscribers. The 3% Club finances DigameXtra for the 97% group that don’t donate. Which group will you belong to? The generosity of the 3% Club members is greatly appreciated.

Just like your morning coffee,
what would you do
without your morning DigameXtra?

-Holiday Donation Info, 2 Methods-
You may drop cash donations off in person and say hello, after 2pm M-F by appointment, or place them in my mailbox beside my door anytime. Due to health reasons, unannounced drop-ins may be inconvenient for me. But if I am expecting you, no problem! Both the door and the mailbox have the name HARRIS on them. Email me for map and directions. Cash donations are strongly preferred.
Alternatively, you may send me an Amazon ES (Spain) “eGift card” by email. You need to have an Amazon.es account. The only info you may need is my name and email address, see those below. Typically you will only need my email address. Remember, this is an “eGift card” sent to me by Amazon, don’t buy a plain “gift card”. Use the link provided below to access the “eGift card” purchase page.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND AMAZON UK eGIFT CARDS. NO TRANSFERS/APPS.
Here is the Amazon.es eGift Card Link, (NOTE: YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT YOU LIKE ON THE FORM, it is set at €50 by default):
https://www.amazon.es/Cheques-Regalo-Amazon-es-mail-Amazon/dp/B07SS5PFJK/
Buy the eGift card for:
Name: N.J. Harris
Email: digamextra@protonmail.com

Donation Info
Making A Donation From Outside Spain?
You can log into Amazon.es from where ever you are
You not need to be in Spain to use their website to send eGift cards

Total Donations Received As Of Today: 109

(Last year = 96. New goal = 150, 3% of subscribers, a modest target. If just 3 of each 100 subscribers make a donation the goal will be attained!)

UPDATE 04/01/24: This is the final issue for this fundraiser. As of today we are at 73% of the 150 donations goal with 3 days remaining – 41 donations short. Only 2.3% of subscribers have donated. Big thanks to the 109 donors in the 3% Club! This year there will have been 250 daily issues. A €25 annual donation equals only 10 cents per issue, or €2.10 per month with 21 issues.

Final results will appear in the next issue, Monday, 8 Jan. Without 41 donations this weekend, or an “angel-donor” making a large enough donation to make up the significant shortage (41 x €25 = €1025), the goal won’t be reached. I won’t hold my breath. It is both disconcerting and disappointing that less than 3% of subscribers value DigameXtra enough to donate. -Ed.

DoctorLaptop’s Tips #104 – SSD Hard drives
– Most computers users will now have devices made in 2016 or newer. This is when Windows 10 was introduced, and also when SSD (solid state drives) hard drives began to be installed in the majority of new computers. These SSD hard drives are about 5 times faster than the old mechanical HHD (hard disk drives) hard drives we previously used.
– There are some other differences you need to be aware of.
– SSDs have a shorter expected lifespan, about 5 years, where the old HHDs could last 8 years or more.
– A HHD will show symptoms of poor performance, alerting you in advance that it is dying, allowing you time to copy off anything you don’t already have backed up. Not so with an SSD. A SSD will maybe have one or two days of poor performance, and the next day it is dead.
– Once a SSD is dead, there is very little chance of recovering any data from it. If the computer can still start, but is malfunctioning as the SSD is struggling, at that point some data recovery from the SSD may be possible. Do a backup immediately if this happens to you, or shut it down and get it to me asap for data recovery. Data on totally dead SSDs can only be recovered in expensive data recovery labs. The lab in Sevilla charges a minimum €500 just to examine dead SSDs and tell you what they believe is recoverable, along with the data recovery price estimate.
– The 3 main take-aways from this are:
1) SSDs are faster, so you may not notice the slowdown caused by a malware infection. In the old days an infected computer would be obvious by its poor performance. Today, your computer can be thuroughly infected and you may never notice it.
2) SSD users must do regular data backups. You can not expect to recover data from a failed SSD. Unlike old HHDs where a tech can repair some corruption and bad sectors, and probably retrieve some data from a dying HDD, SSDs die fast and are not “fixable” without special equipment only found in advanced labs.
3) Users who rely on their computers should have fresh SSDs installed after 5 years of regular daily use of 2 hours a day. Heavy users, 6+ hours per day, should consider replacing SSDs after 4 years. If you do this while the old SSD is still working properly, everything on the old SSD, including your Windows system, software, apps, and data, can be cloned onto a new SSD, which then is exchanged for the old SSD. The price you pay for the better performance of a SSD is a shorter lifespan. Those of you with computers made in 2016-2018, using an SSD, are overdue for SSD replacements.
– The days of using your computer until it won’t start, and then expecting DoctorLaptop to retrieve your data if it can’t be fixed, are coming to an end in the age of SSDs.

SPAIN

The Left Wing PSOE Party Continues To Fragment- Weeks after hard core left SUMAR breaks away from the moderate left PSOE, another new leftist party of unhappy PSOE members emerges, Izquierda Española: {Translation, summary}
– Under the name Izquierda Española (Spanish Left), the promoters of the political think tank El Jacobino have registered a new party with the Ministry of the Interior that will run in the next European elections, scheduled for June, under the slogan “The strength of equality”.
– The new political formation presents itself as openly socialist and non-nationalist, as well as “an egalitarian alternative from the left” to the policies carried out by Pedro Sánchez’s government, which, according to its promoters, has betrayed many left-wing voters through its pacts with pro-independence parties.
– Izquierda Española is headed by lawyer Guillermo del Valle, who recently published his work ‘La izquierda traicionada: razones contra la resignación’, an essay that examines “the persistent contradictions in which Spanish progressive parties fall”. “There is an illusion of a progressive government when governability right now depends on profoundly reactionary parties that bury the common cause and have no project for Spain beyond its fracture”, denounced Del Valle in a recent interview in 20 Minutos. ANDALUCÍA

Met office warns of weather change in south of Spain to accompany arrival of the Three Kings:
– The arrival of Three Kings will be accompanied in the Andalucía region with cloudy skies, but without significant rainfall. It will be cold with minimum temps down to 3C and the wind will blow, according to the forecast of Aemet.
– Aeme said that Wednesday, 3 January, an Atlantic storm will leave a cold front over the Spanish mainland, bringing a little rain, and will reach the Andalucía region in the afternoon, affecting the provinces of Huelva, Seville and Cordoba.
– Once this cloudy band has passed, Del Pino has pointed to a second front that will likely arrive on Thursday and “could leave rain, especially from midday onwards, in Seville, Cordoba and Huelva provinces”, most likely from seven or eight o’clock in the evening. The wind will blow from midday onwards.
– Friday, the day of the Three Kings parades in many parts of Andalucía, it will be a cold and windy day, maximum temperatures could reach 15C with minimum temps around 7C.
– As for rainfall, “there is a probability of rain in the mountains of Jaén, Granada and Grazalema (Cadiz province), and it could even reach the southern mountains of Seville province”, but this “will not be very significant”. In addition, there may be snow in the Sierra Nevada and Sierra de Cazorla areas. MALAGA CITY

Antonio Banderas issues casting call for his Malaga theatre company, and this is who he’s looking for:
– Malaga-born actor Antonio Banderas has issued a casting call for two major Broadway musicals that he will direct at his CaixaBank Soho theatre in the city this year.
– The main characters have already been cast for They’re Playing our Song and Gypsy, but some opportunities to take to the stage still remain. So Banderas has invited actors, singers and dancers to audition, who can play different character profiles, particularly with a good level of jazz and tap dance. The auditions will take place in Madrid on 27 February and the deadline to register interest through the theatre’s website is 14 January. TORROX

Endangered whales were spotted swimming near the shores of Torrox-Costa:
– Rising sea temperatures continue to bring us unusual sightings on the Costa del Sol. Although spotting huge whales is relatively frequent on the high seas, it is not so common to see them a few hundred metres from the coast.
– This is what happened last Thursday evening to Germán Luque, a local policeman from Torrox, when he was sailing with his family off Ferrara beach, just 800 metres from the town’s shore. He spotted two enormous fin whales, a critically endangered species of whale that can measure up to 27 metres in length and is considered the second largest living creature on the planet, after the blue whale.
– “I have seen them close-up, and there is no doubt, they are like those that were filmed in La Herradura (Granada province) the day before. See video in source article.

NERJA

Nerja town hall takes back control of old restaurant below iconic Balcón de Europa viewpoint:
– Nerja town hall has taken back control of the site of the Rey Alfonso restaurant, situated below the Balcón de Europa.
– The restaurant opened in 1972 and successfully operated until the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Since then, its owners have not been able to continue running it, resulting in the council and the owners coming to a mutual agreement to terminate the lease. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

Senior Housing- Rincon de la Victorial hotel, closed for more than a decade, to be converted to apartments for the elderly:
– A hotel in Rincon de la Victoria, on the eastern strip of the Costa del Sol, that has been shut for 13 years is set to be converted into apartments for the elderly. The old hotel Nuestra Señora de la Victoria, located on a hill in the centre of La Cala del Moral, has been shut since its last tenant, the Summa Hoteles group, went bankrupt in 2010.
– The eight-storey building, built at the end of the 1960s, has been acquired by a group of investors from Malaga and Madrid, who plan to refurbish the hotel and reopen it as a “senior living” residence for people over 65 years of age. The businessmen are already in talks with the Rincón de la Victoria town hall to obtain the necessary planning permissions.
– The sources estimated a completion period of two years, with the future home for the elderly to open its doors before the end of 2026. Photo: arrinconados. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/axarquia/disused-costa-sol-hotel-closed-for-more-20240102171420-nt.html

CULTURAL REVOLUTION

2024- The Year Global Government Takes Shape:
– Total control of every aspect of life for every single person on the planet, that’s the goal. That’s been apparent to anyone paying attention for years, if not decades, and any tiny portion of remaining doubt was removed when Covid was rolled-out and members of the establishment started outright saying it.
– Covid marked an acceleration of the globalist agenda, a mad dash to the finish line. We know what they want conceptually, but what does that mean practically? What does a potential “global government” actually look like?
– What globalism will bring us is a collection of nation-states largely in name only, operating superficially different systems of government all built on the same underpinning assumptions and all answering to an unelected and undeclared higher authority…and if that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s essentially what we have already.
– The only major aspects missing are the mechanisms by which this rough model can be transformed into a flowing network, where all corners are eroded and all genuine sovereign powers become entirely vestigial.
– That’s where the three main pillars of global rule come in: Digital Money, Digital ID and “Climate Action”. Let’s take a look at each one in turn. Full article: https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/2024-year-global-government-takes-shape & Video Link
