TORROX
260 migrants arrive in Torrox and its mayor assures that they will “be up to the task”: {Translation, summary}
– The migrants arrived this Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. to the Urban Beach Hotel. They had come by bus from Madrid, where they left on Tuesday at ten at night. A total of four buses arrived until 7:15 a.m. and once they were at the hotel, the Red Cross team was in charge of satisfying their most basic needs to rest after a long trip.
– Some 260 immigrants who have recently arrived in the Canary Islands have been transferred to the Malaga municipality of Torrox and the town councillor, Óscar Medina, has valued the “solidarity” of the municipality, which “will once again rise to the occasion”. Medina pointed out that the Canary Islands “are suffering the worst migratory crisis in their history, with more than 40,000 migrants who have arrived this year, and Torrox is showing solidarity with the Canary Islands and will once again welcome 260 migrants in El Morche – in a hotel – with the Red Cross managing their reception in our municipality on a temporary basis”. Annoying Cookie Popups Appear: {DigameXtra}
– New EU data laws are being implemented with the start of the new year. What you will notice quickly are the new style “accept cookies to view website” popups. These cookie permission popup have been around for a couple of years, but the new ones provide more info and options. To proceed you must accept them using cookies, or give them something of value to decline the cookies. These will often offer the option to subscribe to decline cookies. The subscription may cost a few euros per month, or in some cases just giving them your email address will suffice. These notices are supposed to display the number of the website’s “partners” they share the info collected from cookies with. The example below, from the 20minutos Spanish news website shows that it shares your data with 440 partners! See the orange circle in the photo below. That is just one of the hundreds of websites I visit daily. If you wonder where spam and targeted advertising comes from, this explains much of it.

Feminists erupt over appointment of controversial ‘trans man’ as women’s ambassador to the UN: {Translation, summary}
– Dozens of Spanish associations have joined the protest led by feminists in the United Kingdom against the appointment of Munroe Bergdord {pic}, “a trans man”, as ambassador of UN Women, the United Nations organisation dedicated to “promoting gender equality and the empowerment” of women.
– They all sign the letter in which they denounce that her election “is a disregard for the worth of the more than 33 million women in the United Kingdom” and demand her immediate dismissal, emphasising the numerous “insulting and derogatory” statements that the activist has made in recent years about women and that, according to them, are “contrary to their rights”.
– As can be seen in the newspaper archive, there have been several occasions in which Bergdord has referred to homosexual women as “old dyke” or “sterile hairy lesbian”. However, the controversies surrounding Bergdord are many and varied. A few years ago, the model was fired from L’Oréal for calling “all white people racist” and more recently she was removed as an ambassador for Childline, a children’s charity, for her “inappropriate messages that are contrary to child protection standards”.
– Furthermore, feminists denounce Bergdof’s portrayal as “an extreme and sexualised version of femininity”, embodying “a objectification that most women reject as a particularly demeaning example of offensive gender stereotypes”.
– Thus, the letter addressed to Sima Bahous, executive director of UN Women, denounces that this organisation “ignores all the activists who fight for women’s rights in favour of a transfeminine person who flaunts sexist stereotypes and disregards public policies aimed at combating the specific inequalities, discrimination and violence suffered by women”. SCAMS
Old Scam Returns- Bars warned of scams threatening immediate power cuts: {Translation}
– The hospitality sector is facing a growing problem. Many bars have reported threats of power cuts by telephone which, although posing as electricity companies, are scams. The latest case has occurred in a bar in Chipiona, where the manager of the establishment received a call from an alleged Endesa technician warning of an immediate power cut if a bill amounting to “hundreds of euros” was not paid, as reported by the local police.
– The suspicious call did not frighten the owner of the bar who, before acting recklessly, preferred to check the debt which, in the end, turned out to be non-existent, so he decided to bring the case to the attention of the authorities. The local police in Chipiona have used this case to explain how to act in the event of being the victim of a telephone scam.
– Keeping calm is important, although it may seem complicated in this type of situation. After all, scammers are always looking to target victims who seem vulnerable, as is the case with a bar, which relies on continuous refrigeration and all kinds of electrical appliances that cannot function without power. “As always, we advise extreme caution, be wary of haste and urgency, and of calls in which the caller identifies himself as a technician of a certain company but, in reality, the number from which he contacts does not coincide with those that appear on the electricity bills,” warns the Local Police through a publication on social networks.
