Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

I would like to recommend: Pamela Walshe, Medical Interpreter, who advertises here. Tel 609 040 709.
I take the “full package”, so to speak. She meets me outside my home and returns me there. Once at the Hospital, I can sit quietly whilst she negotiates which door and which queue and watches for when I am to be called. This in itself, in my opinion, is worth paying for.
As she charges a fixed fee for the visit there is also no anxiety regarding delays. She is both reliable and professional, and of course, her command of Spanish is excellent. What more can I say.

ANDALUCÍA

Andalusia Reservoirs exceed 20% barrier after winning about 160 hm3, due to accumulations in the west region, east sees small drop: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian reservoirs have managed to gain water this week, in particular 158 cubic hectometers (hm3), and thus overcome the 20% water reserve barrier (20.7%) after the last rainfall and, with these figures. They recover the level of late August last year, according to data provided by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco), consulted by Europa Press.
– In particular, Andalusian reservoirs have 2,305 hm3 in total, which means 158 hm3 more than the previous week. This represents 20.7 per cent water reserve, which is 7.7 percentage points lower than the previous year, when, at 3,155 hm3, they were at 28.4 per cent.
– In the last week, the water stored in the reservoirs of the Guadalquivir basin is maintained at 21 percent with a total of 1,688 cubic hectometers, while that of the Andalusian Mediterranean Basin drops by one tenth to 18.3 percent, with a total of 215 hm3.
– For its part, the reservoirs of Tinto, Odiel and Piedras in Huelva increase to 142 hm3, finding their reserve at 70.3 percent of their capacity, which represents 8.3 percent more than the previous week, while those of Guadalete-Barbate in Cadiz gain three cubic hectometer compared to last week, with 241 hm3, and standing at 14.6 percent.
– At the national level, the Spanish water reserve is 50.5% of its total capacity and the reservoirs currently store 28,288 cubic hectometers of water, increasing in the last week by 2,932 cubic hectometers (still only 5.2% of the current total capacity of the reservoirs).

Shameful! Food is marked up to 875% higher from farm to supermarket: {Translation}
– FACUA-Consumidores en Acción has uncovered an alarming price increase in basic foodstuffs, reaching up to 875% between the price at source and in supermarkets. This study covers a wide range of products, including fruit, vegetables, pulses, eggs and sunflower oil.
– A kilo of lemons, for example, costs 0.20 euros at source, but its average selling price reaches 1.79 euros, an increase of 695%. It is even more significant in chains such as Aldi and Lidl, where the price reaches 1.99 euros per kilo, an increase of 875%.
– Pardina lentils, a staple in the diet, show an increase of 369% in supermarkets, and up to 596% in the case of the La Asturiana brand in Hipercor. Fuji apples are not far behind, with an original price of 0.73 euros and an increase of up to 2.54 euros (248%) in points of sale.
– The study also points to products such as onions and chickpeas, where the increases are 326% and 207% respectively. In specific cases such as the Luengo brand of chickpeas in Carrefour, the difference reaches 412%.
– As far as vegetables are concerned, a kilo of mushrooms can be found on the market for 5.83 euros compared to the 1.83 euros charged by the producer, showing an increase of 218%. Alcampo and Hipercor have the highest prices, with a 335% increase compared to the origin.
– Carrots and conference pears also suffer notable increases of 265% and 198% respectively. The most extreme case is the Rincón de Soto brand of conference pear in Eroski, with a 284% increase. Even products such as golden apples and sunflower oil experienced considerable rises, with golden apples being 229% more expensive in supermarkets. Sunflower oil, essential in the kitchen, recorded an increase of 108%.
– Finally, the study highlights the case of strawberries and potatoes, with increases of 191% and 214% respectively. The price of strawberries, for example, rises from 3.94 euros at source to 11.48 euros at points of sale.
– FACUA insists on the importance of dual labelling, a measure that would provide transparency in this process and allow consumers to identify the excessive profit margins of distribution chains. New self-employed workers in Andalusia who have been active for one year can now request the Zero Quota: {Translation, summary}
– The Regional Ministry of Employment, Enterprise and Self-Employment has now made available to self-employed workers who registered in 2023 for the online application procedure for the so-called Zero Quota. This consists of the “reimbursement” of the contributions paid during the first year of activity, since they joined the state Flat Rate as “new self-employed”.
– Info in English can be found at the official website: https://www.seg-social.es/wps/portal/wss/internet/HerramientasWeb/9d2fd4f1-ab0f-42a6-8d10-2e74b378ee24?changeLanguage=en
– The Ministry of Employment will keep the deadline for this call open until September 2026, so the new self-employed who meet the requirement of 12 months of registration, may access the online procedure at any time to make the application and fill in the requested data, without the need to attach documentation. In the account number provided, the Regional Ministry will pay the beneficiaries who meet the requirements the amount corresponding to the twelve months of payment of Social Security contributions, i.e. around 1,000 euros. MALAGA PROVINCE

The rains only slow down the loss of water in the reservoirs of La Concepción, Conde de Guadalhorce and La Viñuela in Malaga: {Translation}
– The rains that have refreshed the rest of the province in recent days have barely acted locally. The showers recorded have resulted in a very scarce supply of water for the reservoirs, which has only served to stop the loss of water in three of the province’s seven reservoirs. The rest continue to fall.
– According to data from the Hidrosur Network, the main beneficiary of the passage of the squall Juan has been the Concepción reservoir, which has a level of 13.17 cubic hectometres, a gain of 0.16 compared to a week ago, and which means that it is at 22.9% of its capacity.
– The second on the list is the Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir, which has risen from 11.27 to 11.33 cubic hectometres, an increase of 0.6 which puts it at 17% of its capacity. This is a figure which, after diving into the historical record, is not insignificant, as this reservoir has not been at its best for some time. It reached its minimum in November 2023, which means that any contribution is welcome.
– Just behind is the reservoir of La Viñuela, which has gained a pyrrhic 0.3 cubic hectometres, which is enough to go from the 12.23 it had seven days ago to 12.26 at the moment. In other words, it is at 7.5%.
– At the other extreme are those that are losing water, the greatest exponent of which is the Guadalteba reservoir, which has lost 0.72 cubic hectometres along the way, going from 32.58 to 33.30. In other words, it is at 21.3% of its capacity. Despite the drop, its situation is not (yet) as bad as in 2005, when it reached 5%. The level of the Guadalhorce reservoir has fallen somewhat less: 0.28 cubic hectometres. This figure is obtained by subtracting the 17.99 it had a week ago from the current 17.71, which means that it is at 14.8% of its capacity. It is still a long way from its worst phase, in September 2008, when it reached 9%.
– In the Limonero reservoir, the drop is close to stabilisation due to its small size, but, in the end, it is still a subtraction, as it has gone from 4.74 to 4.71 cubic hectometres. 0.3 less. A subtraction that places it at 21.1%.
– Finally, there is the Casasola reservoir, which, in comparison with its historical record, is in the least bad situation, since in October 2003 it reached only 3% of its capacity, whereas now it is at 28.2%, after dropping from 6.13 hectometres to 6.12 in the last week.
