The way to improve the living conditions is through sponsorship to accomplish the enormous need to get children to school and bring water to the households, which are our primary goal.
80% of Kenyans have no water tap in their home. Women and children have to bear 20 litres of water on their backs or heads for sometimes 10 Km and even more.

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The amnesty vote is shipwrecked in Congress due to Junts’ demands on the crimes of terrorism and treason, 179 against, 171 approve: {Translation, summary}
– The amnesty bill that sought to pardon a decade of the ‘procès’ has been wrecked in the Congress of Deputies by the demands of Junts, which demanded total shielding against accusations of terrorism and the pardon of crimes of treason and against the peace or independence of the state and related to national defence. Its inclusion would have prevented the judge in the ‘Voloh case’, who insists on the connection of Catalan independence with Russia, from going ahead.
– Investigating judge, Manuel García Castellón, has pointed out European directive 2017/541, which establishes the obligation of member states not only to prosecute acts of terrorism but to punish them, and on another European directive on key infrastructures (such as airports). Spain’s Farmers To Join Protests- Asaja, COAG and UPA will call protests over the next few weeks in some Autonomous Communities: {Translation, summary}
– The majority agricultural professional organizations, Asaja, COAG and UPA, agreed on Tuesday to resume the calendar of mobilizations to demand an “ambitious” shock plan that collects measures both at European level, by the Government of Spain and the Autonomous Communities.
– The associations have assured in a joint press release that “the protest events will take place at the most regional level in the coming weeks.” In this regard, COAG, UPA and Asaja have stressed that they will demand the paralysis of negotiations on agreements such as Mercosur, the non-ratification of the agreement with New Zealand and for the negotiations with Chile, Kenya, Mexico, India and Australia to be stopped. The organizations have also called for the amendment and extension of the Agri-Food Chain Act to prohibit unfair practices so that farmers’ prices cover production costs.

Moreno says Junts is going to “squeeze the maximum” out of the government and “the worst thing” is that Sánchez “is willing to give it everything”: {Translation, summary}
– The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno (PP-A), said on Tuesday that Junts per Catalunya is going to “squeeze the most” out of the Spanish government presided over by Pedro Sánchez, and “the worst thing” is that the head of the Socialist Executive “is willing to give everything” he asks for to the party of the former Catalan pro-independence president Carles Puigdemont.
– In response to questions from journalists, Juanma Moreno asserted that “Junts is now in charge, the one who decides policy in Spain as a whole”, and “Pedro Sánchez has become the best defence lawyer” for Puigdemont and his pro-independence cause.” “We are seeing it every day”, as the president of the Junta denounced before stressing that Junts is “a small political party that barely represents 400,000 or 500,000 inhabitants in Catalonia”, despite which “it has in its hands to decide the governability of a country of 48 million people”.
– Moreno stressed that if Junts sees that Spain has “a weak and erratic president, they are going to squeeze him to the maximum”, as the Catalan pro-independence party “have realised that there is no bottom, that they can turn the screw further and further, and therefore they are going to squeeze the Sánchez government to the end”, as he predicted.
– Juanma Moreno, who has also denounced the “now explicit attack, of course, to the judiciary and judges” that has taken place “from the Executive in a democratic state”, something that “should not be seen”, and that had previously occurred “in regimes or populist leaders, but we never thought we were going to see it in a supposedly socialist government”, he added. “The worst thing of all”, according to Juanma Moreno, is that “we are all waiting for Puigdemont’s blackmail to have a cause-effect and, therefore, tomorrow any government leader or minister will come out saying that he also accepts the amnesty for terrorists”.
– Moreno regretted that “this is beginning to have a dramatic tone”, because “this is no way to govern a country”, and warned that the current legislature is “a legislature that is clearly beginning to have the feeling of a failed legislature, where the government cannot govern at the whim of a fugitive from justice”, as the president of the Junta remarked. Moreno calls on Brussels to activate the EU Solidarity Fund in the face of the “catastrophe” of drought in Andalusia: {Translation, summary}
– On the first day of his official trip to Brussels, Moreno, president of the Junta de Andalucía, held a meeting with Maros Sefcovic, Commissioner for the European Green Pact, Interinstitutional Relations and Prospective Relations, to which he has transferred this request. These funds would allow for hydraulic works in the community, in addition to those already being implemented by the Board.
– Moreno has given the commissioner a report from his government under the title ‘The drought, a natural catastrophe in Andalusia’, which exposes how the reservoirs are located and how the lack of water is affected by the productive sectors and the economy.
– “I ask that the drought that our land has been suffering for 5 years and that extraordinary aid be articulated to alleviate its effects in the countryside and in our economy,” Moreno said, pointing out that the prolonged lack of water suffered by Andalusia is one of the consequences of climate change.
– The president will contact the third Vice-President of the Government and Minister for the Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, to send her this request and that the central government will process it before Brussels. “We ask the Government of Spain to promote the possibility of this fund so that these resources reach the autonomous communities as we have a problem with drought right now,” said Juanma Moreno, who pointed out that it does not make sense that the national executive does not activate all the procedures that the EU allows the Autonomous Communities with water problems to have more resources to undertake hydraulic works. Reservoirs gain water again for the second week in a row and reach 21% of their capacity, but no gain in Andalucia Mediterranean Basin: {Translation}
-Some Andalucian reservoirs have managed to gain water for the second consecutive week, 23 cubic hectometers (hm3), and thus reach the 21% water reserve barrier after the last rain, according to data provided by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco). This represents 21 percent water reserve, which is 7.4 percentage points lower compared to the previous year, when, at 3,153 hm3, they were at 28.4 percent.
– In the last week, the water stored in the reservoirs of the Guadalquivir basin increases to 21.3 percent with a total of 1,710 cubic hectometers, while that of the Andalucian Mediterranean Basin remains at 18.3 percent, with a total of 215 hm3.
– For its part, the reservoirs of Tinto, Odiel and Piedras in Huelva increase to 162 hm3, finding their reserve at 70.7 percent of their capacity, which represents 0.4 percent more than the previous week, while those of Guadalete-Barbate in Cadiz remain compared to last week, with 241 hm3, and standing at 14.6 percent.
– At the national level, the Spanish water reserve is 50.8 per cent of its total capacity and the reservoirs currently store 28,476 cubic hectometers of water, increasing in the last week by 188 cubic hectometers (0.3% of the current total capacity of the reservoirs). Carriers warn of the “demolishing effect” of the blockade of French farmers on Andalucian exports: {Translation, summary}
– The secretary general of the National Federation of Transport Associations (Fenadismer), Juan José Gil, has warned that the blockade of access to Paris announced by French farmers has an “absolutely devastating effect” for Andalucian exports. He pointed out that the permanent blockades are not only in Paris, which “is what is having the greatest media impact at the moment”, but that there are eight access points that are blocked. Therefore, “we are talking not only about the city of Paris, but also about the whole of the peri-urban area, but we also have twenty-six other main points on French roads that are also blocked”, he added.
– When asked about the quantification of the damage caused by the pickets, the secretary general of Fenadismer explained that an estimate has been made based on the damage caused by the paralysis of vehicles on French roads and in this sense he pointed out that “approximately ten million euros are being suffered daily by hauliers as a result of this damage”.
– In this respect, Gil criticised the fact that Spanish hauliers “in no case” have had the protection of the gendarmerie. “This is something that we find absolutely incomprehensible. How the gendarmerie has acted in complicity with the farmers and at no time in all the attacks on Spanish lorries has there been any intervention by the gendarmerie”, he said. Therefore, “we believe that it is up to the Spanish government to hold the French government accountable for this attitude of absolute passivity on the part of the gendarmerie in not defending something as fundamental as freedom of movement”, he concluded. AXARQUÍA
This is the current situation with La Viñuela – lots of hand wringing but little action:
– The severe drought on the Costa del Sol and the Axarquia, is expected to hit Malaga province hard in the coming weeks as the weather warms up, means water savings from the reservoir must be sought and extra resources from desalination and aquifers must be seized.
– These are times of emergency measures, where pumps are trying to extract water of a reasonable quality from the La Viñuela reservoir, which has just 12.27 cubic hectometres left. But how long can water from a reservoir continue to be used, and down to what level can it stop being used?
– La Viñuela, precisely, is in what is called a ‘dead’ reservoir status, which has become an outdated concept. “They are not dead at all, they tend to have more sediment and a lower water quality, normally with a greater quantity of iron and manganese ions, but that is what the water purification plants are for,” Delgado said. Depending on the reservoir, the last cubic hectometres can be used up, he added.
– At very low levels, the quality of the water worsens considerably as the oxygen concentration drops. Often, it is necessary to remove the fish and relocate the fauna. Another authoritative source, also closely linked to water management on the Costa del Sol, pointed out that at around 5% capacity there is already more sludge than water, and before reaching this situation it is advisable to use floating pumps to “catch the little water that can be used”. Medical Union says 1 in 4 doctors in Axarquia public health have their contract expire on 31 January: {Translation, summary}
– The Medical Union of Malaga has denounced that one out of four doctors attending the public health service in the Axarquia region have their contracts expired on 31 January and are subject to a situation of precariousness that makes it difficult to attend to the population of the region.
– The union has today made an analysis of the service being provided by the SAS in this area of the province, denouncing that the lack of ENT specialists or anaesthetists is causing the surgical waiting lists to increase, something which is also occurring in diagnostic tests, where the referral to private clinics is not being sufficient to meet the existing demand.
– Juan Carmona, spokesperson for the union in Axarquia, has indicated that more than 320 people are seeing their right to be operated on not being fulfilled due to the fact that the decree is not being complied with. He also adds that there is a huge deficit in diagnostic imaging tests: ultrasound scans, MRI scans and warns that the private sector cannot take on the deficit of tests.
– Carmona also pointed out the deficiency in some infrastructures or the delay in the construction of new health facilities, as is the case with the Nerja Health Centre or the improvement of the facilities in La Viñuela. “There is really no movement in Viñuela, a small paediatric clinic has been opened, quite far from the health centre where the emergency services are, but the health centres in Viñuela are minimal and very deficient.”
– The precariousness of recruitment, as denounced by the medical union, especially affects the emergency department of the Axarquia hospital, where they are demanding at least four more professionals. MALAGA PROVINCE
The Junta calculates that 61,400 Malaga residents will go without basic foodstuffs to meet Agenda 2030 goals:
– The territorial delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality in Malaga, Ruth Sarabia, has regretted that some 61,400 vulnerable Malaga citizens are going to be left out of the distribution of basic foodstuffs due to the new model imposed by the Spanish Government, which limits the distribution of wallet cards only to families with dependent minors, excluding other social groups in vulnerable situations such as elderly people with low pensions, homeless people, families with children over 18 years of age or migrants.
– Sarabia pointed out that, due to this model, 85% of the current beneficiaries (72,300 in the province) will be excluded, which is why she called for “common sense” so that the direct distribution of food baskets is not abolished, as proposed by the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030.
– The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and the Agenda 2030, she points out, is committed to a model of purse cards exclusively for families with children living in severe poverty. Last August, the Regional Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality warned that thousands of people are left out of this system.
– Furthermore, the delegate stated that the model imposed by the Spanish Government puts at serious risk the approximately 177 distribution entities served by the Food Banks and the Red Cross in Malaga. “We believe that the Government has washed its hands, despite the fact that these entities have proven to be a valuable and committed ally to meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable population,” she remarked. “Andalucia cannot tolerate the disappearance of these entities, nor can it tolerate the disappearance of entities that are in the front line, such as social canteens or commissaries, which are also excluded from the new model imposed by the Spanish government”, continued Sarabia.
– It must also be taken into account that more than 65% of the population of Andalucia lives in rural areas where, for example, small village organisations play a crucial role in the distribution of basic foodstuffs. MALAGA CITY
The venues where the Malaga musician on hunger strike performs have noise complaints, according to the Town Hall: {Translation, summary}
– Mario Salazar, a flamenco percussionist for 17 years, has been on hunger strike for more than 24 hours in front of the Malaga City Hall to defend live music and to ensure that “it is not treated as a crime”. Consequently, the Consistory has informed that the two venues in which this musician performs have complaints for non-compliance in terms of noise and opening hours, as well as not respecting the closing time, exceeding the maximum authorised capacity and transmitting music to the outside through doors and windows.
– They explain that one of the establishments has been authorised to carry out small live music performances. However, they state that there are complaints for prolonging the activity in the early hours of the morning outside the permitted hours. The second venue, they point out, lacks authorisation to hold concerts. The complaints filed by both have led to the opening of disciplinary proceedings by the areas of Commerce and Environmental Sustainability. TORROX
Five arrested for 25 forceful robberies committed in Torrox and Algarrobo: {Translation}
– As part of the so-called “Lalala” and “Sigilo” operations, the Guardia Civil arrested a total of 5 people for their involvement in 25 burglaries, 18 committed in homes and 7 in commercial establishments located in the towns of Torrox and Algarrobo.
– This operation began at the end of last year following a significant increase in the number of burglaries in homes located in the urban centres of Torrox Costa and Algarrobo Cost. The first operative steps determined that the delinquents entered the houses by climbing and forcing doors and windows, all this while the residents were asleep inside. Once inside, they stole money, jewellery or high-value electronic devices, which could be transported in a backpack.
– During the months of November and December 2023, in parallel to the burglaries in homes, 7 burglaries were carried out in commercial establishments in the same area, where the perpetrators forced the locking mechanisms of the doors and, once inside, stole the cash register and the vending machines, which they moved to an isolated place where they forced them to extract the money from inside, leaving them with significant damage.
– The investigators were able to determine that only one person was behind 16 of the burglaries in homes and 6 in commercial establishments committed in the aforementioned towns. The agents focused their investigation on this individual, who had numerous previous convictions for committing similar offences and whose modus operandi was known. It was also known that he always wore gloves and a cap to commit the robberies and even took his shoes off to avoid leaving impressions of the soles of his shoes.
– It was also discovered that this individual was assisted by another offender in his last robbery, a person who was also arrested during this operation.
– Finally, the agents managed to locate and arrest this individual in the town of Torrox Costa for the alleged commission of 22 offences of robbery with force.
– During the course of the investigation, the agents detected another criminal group that had committed 2 robberies in homes and 1 in a commercial establishment in the affected localities; they finally proceeded to arrest the three members of this group for the alleged commission of 3 robberies with force.
– The approximate value of the objects stolen in the 25 robberies committed would exceed 40,000 euros.

NERJA
Environmental group demands action over proliferation of motorhomes on Costa del Sol ‘Nomad Land’:
– An environmental campaign group based in the Axarquía, on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol, has for the third year running denounced what it describes as a proliferation of motorhomes in the coastal village of Maro. The group has also complained of squatters using abandoned buildings in the area.
– Gabinete de Estudios de la Naturaleza de la Axarquía (GENA-Ecologistas en Acción) said in a press statement on Monday 29 January, “This year, throughout the month of January, we have been observing the gradual arrival of motorhomes that give the impression of being coordinated, colonising the protected area as if it were a winter ‘Nomad Land’, in some cases coming from other places, such as the Alpujarras [Granada province]. The number of motorhomes is estimated at around fifty.” “In all these cases it is not a one-off or one-day visit, but they stay for an indefinite period of time, some for several weeks, so they are in breach of the rule of not staying overnight in the natural area”. He argued that “In addition to breaching the general rule that prohibits free camping and even less so in a protected natural area, other problems are occurring”.
– GENA claimed that signs prohibiting overnight stays have been vandalised and that people staying in the area are “dumping of all kinds of rubbish: leftover food, wipes, toilet paper, excrement, urine, and other items, including highly polluting items such as bottles of motor oil, some of which have been opened and dumped on the ground”.

– The councillor for the area, Lola Ramos (PP), has informed that from February “owners who do not comply with their duty to collect their pets’ excrement will be sanctioned”. The first collection campaign began in November 2022.
– Over the last few years, “various information campaigns have been carried out on the obligation to register pets in the Municipal Genetic Register, as well as to collect excrement from public roads. Among other actions, bottles have been distributed to dilute the urine, as well as bags for collecting faeces,” explains the councillor.
– The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP), has assured that “these measures will improve the state of the streets of the municipality and the coexistence on public roads between pet owners and citizens”. In addition, added Salado, “through this type of identification, the fraudulent use of the chip, extractions, theft, abandonment of litters, etc. will be prevented”.
– Salado recalled that “Rincón de la Victoria was the first municipality in Malaga to implement DNA identification with the publication of its Municipal Ordinance for the Protection and Ownership of Animals”.
– The councillor said that “every owner of a dog resident in Rincón de la Victoria is obliged to be registered in the Genetic Census in accordance with the Ordinance”. Furthermore, Ramos assures that, “the registration of a pet in the Municipal Census and its registration by means of DNA, means numerous advantages from the point of view of environmental health, as well as from the point of view of animal welfare, in the case of theft, loss or mistreatment”.
– The Department of Health and Consumer Affairs is continuing to work on the canine identification campaign by means of which dog owners who have not had their pets DNA tested will be informed via instant messaging so that they can regularise their situation. DNA gives each dog a unique genetic fingerprint.
– From February, owners who do not comply with their duty to remove them, as well as those who do not identify the dogs by DNA testing, will be fined. The amounts of both penalties range from 75 to 500 euros.
