Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

Supreme Court Prosecutors decide to charge Puigdemont for terrorism, blocking amnesty promises made by President Sanchez: {Translation, summary}
– The criminal prosecutors of the Supreme Court have decided to charge Carles Puigdemont with terrorism in the Tsunami Democràtic case. After several hours of meeting, the majority of the board has rejected the presentation of the prosecutor Álvaro Redondo, who was in favour of not opening a case against the former Catalan president, and have agreed to bring forward a new report that does support the reasoned statement of the judge Manuel García Castellón, although the case is now in the hands of the lieutenant prosecutor.
– In total, 12 of the 15 prosecutors believe that there are valid terrorism charges to persue and, 11 of the 15 are in favour of directing the investigation against Puigdemont. Farmers’ protests cause traffic chaos as hundreds tractors block port in Malaga and logistics centre in Antequera:
– Some 200 tractors have blocked off the entrance to the Port of Malaga this Tuesday morning (6 February) as disgruntled farmers protest against strict EU agricultural policies. Farmers from different municipalities in the Guadalhorce Valley gathered in Avenida Antonio Machado to block the entry of goods into the Port of Malaga, forcing partial closures of the normally busy road in both directions. Local Police officers are diverting traffic, while National Police and Guardia Civil riot police are at the scene on standby.
– Similar protests are also currently taking place in Antequera and Ronda, part of the so-called #6F movement, in reference to 6 February. Farmers are angry at the EU’s strict agricultural policies and the low prices they receive from distributors and supermarkets, which do not allow them to cover their costs and could see the sector squeezed out of business. Protests are also happening in other European countries. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/farmers-protest-causes-traffic-chaos-hundreds-tractors-20240206100139-nt.html

Andalusia reaches an agreement with Murcia on the transfer of water by ship from the Cartagena desalination plant: {Translation, summary}
– The Andalusian Regional Government has reached an agreement with the Government of the Region of Murcia so that the desalination plant of Escombreras, in Cartagena, will be the one to provide water for transfer by ship to the ports of Carboneras, Malaga and Algeciras in the event that it is necessary to take this measure due to the drought situation in Andalusia. The PSOE in La Viñuela accuses the Junta of neglect in water issues: {Translation}
– The secretary general of the PSOE in Málaga, Daniel Pérez, has stated that “the neglect of duty by the Junta de Andalucía is putting the development of the province at serious risk”. At a press conference in La Viñuela, together with the regional parliamentarian, Josele Aguilar, and the mayor of the municipality, José Juan Jiménez, he stated that “if this summer the water cuts are widespread, the effect on tourism will be devastating for years to come”.
– Pérez has described the situation as “critical”, with municipalities in the province suffering water supply cuts of more than 14 hours and town councils being forced to supply the population with buckets of water. “Since Moreno Bonilla has been president, the Junta has left a total of 1.25 billion euros in water works unfinished in Andalusia. This is outrageous. The Junta’s water planning is non-existent, despite the fact that it has exclusive competence in our province,” he lamented. In this sense, he recalled that the only body responsible for the Demarcación Hidrográfica de las Cuencas Mediterráneas Andaluzas, the intra-community basin where the province is located, is the Junta de Andalucía.
– Pérez has once again defended the need for an alliance for Malaga against the failure of all the administrations to implement urgent measures, with sufficient economic resources. “The Spanish Government has already put 100 million euros on the table for the construction of a desalination plant here in Axarquia. The Junta de Andalucía has taken months to inform the government of the location of this desalination plant. And it has still not sent the construction project. The PP prefers to confront the government rather than collaborate with it to solve the problems”, he said.
– For this reason, he has once again demanded that the Junta and Moreno Bonilla “get their act together, fulfil their commitments, assume their responsibilities and take the necessary measures to guarantee water in the province”. “The future of our province is at stake. Without water, there is no future. Without water, there is no tourism, no agriculture. Without water there is no life. I ask Mr. Moreno Bonilla and the leaders of the PP to take conscience,” he concluded.
– For his part, the mayor of La Viñuela and PSOE provincial deputy, José Juan Jiménez, declared that “we must demand that the Andalusian administration, which has exclusive powers in this basin, gets its act together, and work to solve this problem that affects us all so much. One dead and one injured after vehicle leaves the road in Colmenar:
– On Monday night (5 February), a 90-year-old man died in a traffic accident in the small town of Colmenar, in the Alta Axarquia, according to 112 Andalusia. At around 9.40pm, a member of the public advised the emergency services of a car that had run off the road in the area of the water treatment plant in the town, next to the Zuque stream and about three kilometres from Colmenar. The 112 emergency coordination center alerted the ambulance service, Guardia Civil and provincial fire brigade, as the involved vehicle in the accident was in an area that was difficult to access.
– The emergency services were unable to save the life of the victim, a 90-year-old man, who died. A 70-year-old man was injured in the crash and rushed to the Regional Hospital in Malaga.
– This was the second fatal accident on Malaga province’s roads in just a few hours. On Monday afternoon a 42-year-old motorcyclist from Iznate died after colliding with a car in Velez-Málaga. The victim was the father of two young children. He has lost his life in the accident which happened on an industrial estate in the Cañada de Burgos area. MALAGA PROVINCE

These are the roads affected by the farmers’ protest in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– The most complicated situation is on the A-92 at Fuente de Piedra and the accesses to the port of Malaga.
– The sector has taken to the streets all over Spain, in a protest called by social networks outside the agricultural organisations, to demand fair prices for their produce, reciprocity in imports with respect to third countries and less bureaucracy that is suffocating the rural environment.
– In Malaga, the tractors that have arrived in the capital come mostly from the municipalities of the Guadalhorce Valley, but also from Axarquia. From Campillos, Alhaurín de la Torre, Alhaurín el Grande and Cártama, as well as farmers from Álora, Almargen, Ardales, Pizarra and Torrox.
– In this way, several areas of the capital of Malaga and roads in the province have been affected by cuts and slowdowns. The most affected road in Malaga is the A-92, in the region of Antequera, which has been cut by tractors in the municipality of Fuente de Piedra, at kilometre 132, according to the DGT.
– Also in Ronda there have been complications in the accesses to the municipality, throughout the morning farmers have blocked the main entrance to Ronda and have caused problems in the circulation of the A-367 and A-374 roads, without complete cuts but with slow traffic due to the march of tractors. The protests have affected the roads connecting the city of the Tagus with the Costa del Sol and Seville, which has caused some workers on their way to Marbella to return home at rush hour in the early hours of the morning.
– As for the Antequera region, in addition to the traffic blockage on the A-92, there have also been some tense moments at the accesses to the industrial estate in the town.
– In Malaga city, the worst is at the accesses to the port. The accesses to San Andrés and Alameda de Colón have been blocked since three o’clock in the morning with tractors and tyres, some of which have been set on fire. The farmers have also cut off the entrance to the Alameda de Colón with the Muelle Heredia.
– At times, the Malaga Local Police also had to cut off traffic on the Avenida de Andalucia, after a group of farmers began a demonstration on foot through the historic centre (Alameda Principal, Calle Larios and Paseo del Parque to the Town Hall). In addition, the Antonio Machado promenade from Calle Princesa to Muelle Heredia has been closed to traffic. There are traffic jams in Salitre with Plaza de Toros Vieja, and in Cuarteles there is slow traffic. The police have also closed off Calle Ingeniero José María Garnica in the direction of Paseo Antonio Machado. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA

The cisterns in Rincón de la Victoria will be upgraded to increase water supply: {Translation, summary}
– The Rincón de la Victoria Town Council has requested the approval of the Health District so that the five municipal wells can be connected to the network. These are the wells of El Camello, Locea, the so-called 7x and 8x, and those of arroyo Totalán and La Cala are also being explored.
– Although the council is still cautious, it is estimated that it can reach a maximum supply of 30 litres per second, according to statements made by the councillor for Infrastructures, Sergio Díaz, as reported by SUR.
– Last week, the plenary session of the Corporation initially approved a municipal ordinance which aims to promote the efficient use of water, which provides penalties for waste and which opens the door to carry out home inspections to check if there is any misuse of this scarce resource. The regulation, still in draft form, was supported by the PP and VOX, while the PSOE, Por Mi Pueblo and Con Rincón opted to abstain and plan to announce a reply. A Win For The Farmers- EU drops net zero demands after farmers’ protests:
– The European Union has caved in to angry protests from farmers and cut a target to slash agricultural emissions as part of the bloc’s net zero drive.
– A demand to reduce nitrogen, methane and other emissions linked to farming by almost a third has been removed from a wider Brussels plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 90 per cent by 2040.

Financing Corruption- Over $1 Billion In Weapons Missing In Ukraine:
– The U.S. Department of Defense has failed to properly track $1 billion worth of weapons provided to Ukraine, according to an internal audit released on Jan. 10 by the DOD Inspector General.
– The DOD is supposed to use special “enhanced end-use monitoring” techniques” to “safeguard” key weapons such as smaller, high-tech weaponry provided to Ukraine, which are likely targets for theft. The audit says these monitoring procedures are not properly being followed in Ukraine, due to staffing shortages, poor internal logistics and more.
– The audit found that $1 billion of the $1.7 billion, or 59%, in enhanced end-use monitoring designated weapons provided to Ukraine as of June 2023 are “delinquent,” meaning they can’t be accounted for in inventory reports. The 59% delinquency rate is an improvement over the 86% of weapons that were unaccounted for in December 2022.
– The weapons include night-vision devices, anti-tank missiles, attack drones and small-diameter bombs. The report also found that inventory databases were not regularly updated and that the Ukrainian Armed Forces failed to properly report missing weapons. Here’s What Queen Camilla’s Title Will Be If She Outlives King Charles:
– In light of the news of King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis, you might be wondering what happens if his wife, Queen Camilla, were to outlive him, and what her title would be. Well, a similar situation occurred when Queen Elizabeth II’s father, King George VI, passed away in 1952, widowing his wife, Queen Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon. When Queen Elizabeth II took the throne, her mother took on the title queen mother, to avoid any confusion with her daughter the monarch. But if Queen Camilla outlives her husband, something different would happen.
– Camilla would likely take on the title Queen Dowager, defined quite simply by Merriam-Webster as: “the widow of a king.” All widows of kings are technically queen dowagers, but some use the title Queen Mother if they are the birth mothers to the reigning heir (but as we know, Queen Camilla is not).
– If King Charles passes away, his eldest son, Prince William, will ascend to the throne. The Prince of Wales is currently first in the line of British succession, followed by his eldest son, Prince George. If Prince William becomes monarch of the United Kingdom, then his wife, Princess Catherine, will take on the title of queen. Photo: Dave Benett. Rafael Nadal signs to play Indian Wells. Will he play Novak Djokovic?:
– A 22-time Major winner Rafael Nadal is on the Indian Wells entry list, planning to compete at the season’s first Masters 1000 event in March. A three-time champion in the desert will try to challenge the rivals from the top, with a potential duel against Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner coming already in the second round.
– Rafa is currently ranked outside the top-600 after playing only three matches in the previous year. Nadal skipped last year’s Indian Wells due to a hip injury and will try to make a winning return in a month, eager to compete after dealing with numerous injuries over the last couple of years. Classic and socialist feminists call for the withdrawal of Eurovision song “Zorra” (“bitch” in Spanish) by the band Nebulossa and charge Sánchez for defending it: {Translation, summary}
– As if the song chosen to represent Eurovision had not generated enough controversy on its own, this Monday the President of the Government added fuel to the fire by assuring that “Zorra” shows that “feminism is fair and fun”, statements that have outraged many feminists, who accuse RTVE and Pedro Sánchez himself of “trivialising violence against women and girls” and call for its withdrawal.
– “We call on the government to refrain from making frivolous an expression that is frequently used by abusers when they beat their victims,” reads the statement sent by the Alliance Against the Erasure of Women. “We express our resounding complaint and request the withdrawal of the song chosen to represent our country through our public television at Eurovision”, adds the Madrid Feminist Movement, which considers that “the composition insults women in a sexist way”.
– Criticism has even spread among socialist feminists. “I don’t like being called a ‘bitch’, nor do I like my daughter being called a ‘bitch’. Not even in jest. To vindicate our freedom we don’t need to resort to verbal violence”, the president of the Women’s Foundation, Elena Valenciano, wrote on her X account (formerly Twitter). Beware- Fake Facebook Job Ads Spreading ‘Ov3r_Stealer’ to Steal Passwords, Creditcard Info, Credentials & More:
– Threat actors are leveraging bogus Facebook job advertisements as a lure to trick prospective targets into installing a new Windows-based stealer malware codenamed Ov3r_Stealer. “This malware is designed to steal credentials and crypto wallets and send those to a Telegram channel that the threat actor monitors,” Trustwave SpiderLabs said in a report shared with The Hacker News.
– Ov3r_Stealer is capable of siphoning IP address-based location, hardware info, passwords, cookies, credit card information, auto-fills, browser extensions, crypto wallets and Microsoft Office documents.
– The starting point of the attack is a weaponized PDF file that purports to be a file hosted on OneDrive, urging users to click on an “Access Document” button embedded into it. Trustwave said it identified the PDF file being shared on a fake Facebook account impersonating Amazon CEO Andy Jassy as well as via Facebook ads for digital advertising jobs.
