Brussels denounces Spain to the European Court of Justice for decades of not complying with the water management and landfill directives: “It has not made sufficient efforts”: {Translation, summary}
– The European Commission has announced that it is referring Spain to the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU) for failing to complete the revision of its river basin management plans under the Water Framework Directive and its flood risk management plans under the Floods Directive. “The Water Framework Directive focuses on ensuring the good qualitative and quantitative health of European water bodies, such as rivers and lakes. It aims to reduce and eliminate pollution, as well as to ensure that there is sufficient water to meet both human and wildlife needs,” they add.
– Spain also ends up before the CJEU for maintaining at least 195 illegal landfills in operation, contrary to EU law. The country is not complying with the Waste Framework Directive. “The persistence of at least 195 illegal landfills that have not yet been closed, sealed and restored since 2008 is causing significant damage to the environment, while endangering human health,” they explain in the statement. Prosecutor of the Supreme Court (TS) criticises Sánchez for ruling out terrorism in the ‘procés’. “Either the board are Martians or Sánchez claim is not true”:
– The prosecutor Salvador Viada, who formed the majority of the board of prosecutors in favour of investigating Carles Puigdemont in the Supreme Court for alleged terrorism in the case of ‘Tsunami Democràtic’, has criticised President Sánchez for categorically ruling out that Catalan independence supporters committed terrorism in the protests against the sentence of the ‘procés’.
– “From a strictly criminal point of view, the matter is not very complex and certainly in the Supreme Court we do not share what the president says. Either we are Martians who are on the board of prosecutors or it is not true,” said Viada, who explained that prosecutors in favor of investigating terrorism are based on the reasoned statement of the judge of the National High Court Manuel García Castellón, who has asked the high court to take the investigation because the two are well-trained. Sanchez losing socialist backing as partners disassociate themselves from his amnesty plan, are new elections on the horizon?: {Translation}
– The Government considers that the only remaining tool they have to secure the Sanchez administration is to ensure the amnesty of Carles Puigdemont, within the remaining time limits, with a reform of the LeCrim (Law of Criminal Procedure), to try to reduce the instruction periods (judicial debate). A modification that they assume to be “complicated” because, among other things, “a balance must be sought between legal operators”.
– Added to the complications is the opposition of partners who smell the parliamentary weakness of an increasingly precarious Executive. In Podemos they already assume that they will not back a reform that goes against another that the government undertook in 2020 in the opposite direction to extend the time limits for investigations in order to fight “against corruption”. The four Podemos votes are now joined by Sumar, which has also announced its opposition.
– The second vice-president, Yolanda Díaz, regretted having found out in the press about what the PSOE “is negotiating” and warned that “it is not going in the right direction because of the general effect it could have”. “There are processes that are very complex, that need certain rhythms, certain means, certain investigations, that require a certain amount of prudence”, she added, taking a stance against reducing the time periods for investigations.
– The leader of Sumar, hiding behind her international agenda, claimed that she has not yet told Sánchez of all these reproaches, but has called on the president of the government for an immediate meeting to discuss them.
– Nor does the ERC seem very willing to support the reform of the Lecrim. Without Podemos, Sumar and Junqueras’ party, the PSOE loses 38 key seats for a reform that will also be opposed by PP, Vox, Coalición Canaria and UPN.
– Without its partners, the PSOE is left alone with Junts and the only alternative plan contemplated in Moncloa to attract Puigdemont begins to fail. Socialist sources lament that the fugitive is still anchored in “unconstitutional” positions and that he is not moving.
– Concern in the socialist ranks is beginning to spread through the government, and they no longer hide their fear that the foundational law of the legislature, the Amnesty Law, will run aground and make a hole in the waterline of a government adrift in the drift of ungovernability.
– {Should the Sanchez amnesty plan fail, his opponents may well be able to force new elections, again. -Ed.}

Farmers Protests- Conflicting News: Andalucian news outlets are posting news articles today, often in the same issue, or even on the same page, that contradict each other. Some articles say the farmers are continuing to block roads and reinforce their positions (using on-site reports). Others say the farmers are withdrawing (quoting Junta press releases). A few claim the farmers are continuing to protest, but are moving from one location to another (quoting farmer interviews & social media posts). Hopefully reliable info will be available for the weekend edition. -Ed.

These are the roads cut in Andalusia by the farmers’ strike: {07.02.2024 – 13:37H} {translation}
– The second day of farmers’ protests against “abandonment” and bureaucracy in the countryside began early in the morning in practically all parts of Spain, where roadblocks by the tractors are expected throughout the day.
– Andalusia is one of the strong points of these protests. Tuesday the Guardia Civil issued 1,375 reports for non-compliance with the law on traffic and public safety. Security cameras are being viewed to identify the vehicles that have obstructed the roads.
– Wednesday morning several roads were still closed. The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) is updating the information on these road closures on its social channels as the day progresses.
*Roads of Granada currently cut by the strike*
The A-92N road in Venta Quemada at km 73, in the municipality of Cúllar.
The A-330 in Puebla en Don Fadrique (both directions).
The N-340 road at km 353.421 in Gualchos.
The GR-30 road from km 0 in Albolote to km 26,824 in Otura (both directions).
The A-92 road in El Jau towards Almería.
*Roads of Malaga closed due to the strike*
50 tractors continue to block access to the Port of Malaga according to 20minutos, while the Junta makes unverified claims they have cleared the port blocks.
The A-45 road in Antequera towards Málaga city.

The Aemet warns of the arrival of the Karlotta squall in Andalucia with lots of rain and wind: {Translation, summary}
– Aemet has warned of the arrival of the ‘Karlotta’ squall, which from this Wednesday until Saturday will leave a noticeable trail of heavy rain and strong winds in various parts of Spain, with Andalucia being one of the most affected.
– Aemet explained that the change in weather pattern is due to the weakening and southward displacement of the anticyclone, allowing the incursion of ‘Karlotta’ and its associated fronts. This change will bring precipitation back to the peninsula, although “not winter”, with a brief appearance of colder temperatures over the weekend, followed by a return to mild weather.
– In Andalucia, significant rainfall accumulations are expected, exceeding 60 litres per square metre in inland areas. Despite these figures, some areas of Andalucia, particularly in need of water, will receive little to no rain
– Friday is expected to be the day of greatest rainfall. It is expected to be heaviest in Galicia and in the southwest quadrant of the peninsula, including Andalucia.
– Saturday, a gradual decrease in rainfall is forecast and a return to atmospheric stability, although precipitation will persist during the first half of the day in some areas. This change will be accompanied by a notable drop in temperatures and snow levels, which could result in light snowfall in mountainous areas. Andalucia Wants To Use €125 million In EU Funds For Free Education Programs For 0 To 3 Years Olds:
– The Regional Minister for Educational Development and Vocational Training, Patricia del Pozo, announced this Wednesday that she will send a new letter to Pilar Alegría’s Ministry of Education to insist that it “reconsider” and allow Andalusia to use 125 million European funds to extend free education in the 0-3 years stage, which would solve, in her opinion, two objectives: the expansion of schooling – the purpose of the European funds in question – and “fill” the 20,000 places that remain unfilled every year in the public-private system that works in Andalusia “very well”.
– The objective of the European funds of the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism is “to advance in schooling, to promote it”, the minister pointed out, an objective which, in her opinion, “the only way” to achieve in the Andalusian community is “by increasing subsidies and free education” in the 0 to 3 years stage.
– {Note, these are not daycare babysitting programs to help working mothers, these are education programs for infants and toddlers with very limited communication skills. You can call me old fashioned, but is this really necessary? Is regimentation like this, away from their family for so many hours, even healthy for children so young? -Ed.}

mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines Caused More Deaths Than Saved says Peer-Reviewed Study:
– With considerably lower efficacy rates, mRNA COVID-19 vaccines cause more deaths than save lives, according to a new study whose researchers called for a “global moratorium” on the shots and “immediate removal” from childhood immunization schedule.
– The peer-reviewed study, published in the Cureus journal on Jan. 24, analyzed reports from the initial phase 3 trials of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 mRNA vaccines (the 2 most used in Spain, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_vaccination_in_Spain). These trials led to the shots being approved under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the United States. The study also looked into several other research and reviews of the trials. It found that the vaccines had “dramatically lower” efficacy rates than the vaccine companies claimed.
– Moreover, based on “conservative assumptions, the estimated harms of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines greatly outweigh the rewards: for every life saved, there were nearly 14 times more deaths caused by the modified mRNA injections.”
– “Given the well-documented SAEs (serious adverse events) and unacceptable harm-to-reward ratio, we urge governments to endorse and enforce a global moratorium on these modified mRNA products until all relevant questions pertaining to causality, residual DNA, and aberrant protein production are answered.”
– The authors also recommended an “immediate removal” of the COVID-19 vaccines from the childhood immunization schedule. They pointed out that children were at very low risk from the infection. “It is unethical and unconscionable to administer an experimental vaccine to a child who has a near-zero risk of dying from COVID-19 but a well-established 2.2 percent risk of permanent heart damage based on the best prospective data available.” Full article, no paywall: https://www.zerohedge.com/medical/mrna-covid-19-vaccines-caused-more-deaths-saved-study
