At 19.00 the performance of the Murga del Pacheco “EL ABANDONAO”, will delight the audience. At 20.30 the prizes will be awarded to the best costumes in the different categories and at 21.00 there will be a performance by the DJ Antonio Lara to conclude the evening.

Tractors choke Spanish city streets as farmers protest EU policy:
– Spanish farmers drove tractors through city streets disrupting traffic on Thursday as they stepped up their protest against soaring costs, bureaucracy and cheap competition from outside the European Union. The protests, which started spontaneously on Tuesday after spilling over from other EU countries, are backed by the country’s three main farmers’ associations.
– Dozens of tractors surrounded the regional parliament in Barcelona after their drivers spent the night in the city centre.
– Farmers disrupted traffic in smaller cities all over the country, including central Avila, Vitoria in the north and Antequera in the south. Since Tuesday, Spanish farmers have blocked highways and ports in Malaga and Castellon and boulevards in Barcelona and elsewhere.
– The protests prompted the government to distribute an additional 269 million euros ($290 million) in subsidies for as many as 140,000 farmers and for the European Commission, the EU executive, to scrap a plan to halve pesticide use in the bloc. Tense night during farmers’ protest in Malaga province as lorry set on fire – police charge at demonstrators firing tear gas cartridges and rubber bullets despite the presence of families with children:
– Farmers’ protests across Malaga province intensified overnight after a lorry was set on fire in Antequera on Wednesday evening (7 February).
– Tractors formed a blockade in front of a Mercadona logistics centre in Antequera yesterday despite a heavy police presence. They also cut off the A-92 motorway in Antequera for almost an hour, leaving traffic backed up for several kilometres. Tension escalated about 8pm when riot police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to clear the protesters. SUR can confirm that amid the chaos a lorry carrying chemicals and plastics was burnt at the entrance to the Mercadona logistics centre.
– Lorries forced to queue outside the area were finally able to enter about midnight after the protesters dispersed. MALAGA CITY

Cinema tickets break 10 euro barrier for first time in Malaga, making the province one of most expensive in Spain to see a film on the big screen:
– A glance at the billboard next weekend shows the new trend with two Malaga cinemas that break the psychological – and economic – barrier of ten euros per seat. To attend the premiere of Ferrari next Saturday, which stars Penelope Cruz and Adam Driver, or to go to see the Spanish hit film El Correo in Plaza Mayor or the Vialia cinema and an adult ticket will cost 10.40 euros with these Yelmo chain outlets.
– This is the most expensive ticket price in Malaga, and coincides with the most in-demand weekend screenings. The next most expensive rates in Spain are in Madrid and Barcelona where the same tickets cost 12.40 and 11.40 euros, respectively.
– Malaga has held the most expensive box office prices in the Andalucía region for decades, ahead even of Seville, which in the last ten years has taken the lead in public attendance figures thanks to offering cheaper tickets. With the latest rate update, Malaga province further increases its gap with the rest of the region since, in addition to Vialia and Plaza Mayor, three other cinemas will set you back more than nine euros: Kinépolis La Cañada (9.50 euros) and Red Dog Puerto Banús (9.20 euros), and Marbella and Mk2 Miramar Fuengirola (nine euros). Iceland volcano erupts again, spewing huge lava fountains into air:
– A volcano in southwestern Iceland erupted on Thursday for the third time since December, pumping lava up to 80 metres (260 feet) into the air and threatening to disrupt life in Reykjanes peninsula. Video footage showed fountains of bright-orange molten rock spewing from cracks in the ground as daylight broke.
– The latest eruptive fissure, the sixth outbreak since 2021, was roughly 3 km (2 miles) long, Iceland’s meteorological office said. – A Spanish rice variety traditionally used to make paella is under threat from a fungus after the European Union banned a pesticide farmers said they relied upon, in another example of how the bloc’s environmental rules are angering growers.
– Three rice producers in the Valencia region said their harvest of arroz bomba, or bomb rice, a variety grown almost exclusively in Spain, was half the 10-year average in 2023 as a result of the Pyricularia fungus which causes rice blast disease. Renfe cancels hundreds of trains ahead of planned national rail strike in Spain on Friday:
– Renfe workers are due on strike this Friday, 9 February, affecting the Cercanías (commuter), Media and Larga Distancia services, including the AVE high-speed train routes. The CC OO union has called a day of strike action from the early hours of Friday until 11pm on the same day to demand the unblocking of the collective agreements already agreed between the unions and the company and which the government has paralysed.
– For passengers whose train is not operating on the list of minimum services, Renfe will allow them to travel on another train at the time nearest to the one purchased, as long as there are seats. The ticket can also be cancelled or changed to another date free of charge, said the state rail operator.
