Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

ANDALUCÍA
These public schools in Andalucia are among the best in Spain: {Translation}
– The quality of Andalucian education has shown significant progress, reflected in the presence of several of its public schools in the ranking of the best in Spain, according to the website https://www.micole.net/ . This recognition not only highlights academic excellence, but also the commitment to inclusion and educational innovation that these schools offer. Among them are schools in various Andalusian towns such as Fuengirola, Seville, Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Cordoba, Estepona, and Granada.
– Colegio Colón de Córdoba and Colegio López Diéguez, both in Córdoba, have been recognised in Micole’s prestigious ranking, which evaluates more than 34,000 schools across Spain based on criteria such as traffic on the platform, visit requests, and the quality and quantity of reviews on Google Places. These schools are distinguished not only for their quality of education but also for creating an inclusive environment and offering a rich variety of extracurricular activities.
– Colegio Isdabe del Mar in Estepona is an example of commitment to early childhood and primary education, standing out for its bilingual approach and its extensive range of extracurricular activities, which include tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, modern dance, drama, IT, and cooking classes. This diversity of extracurricular activities reflects the importance of a comprehensive education that goes beyond the traditional curriculum.
– For its part, the Mariana Pineda School in Benalmádena offers an inclusive and stimulating educational environment that encourages active and participatory learning. This school is a clear example of how schools in Andalusia seek to prepare their students to be competent global citizens who are aware of their environment.
– In Granada, Colegio Sierra Nevada stands out for its innovative approach to education, offering programmes that prepare students for the challenges ahead. This approach to educational innovation is a fundamental pillar for the development of critical and creative skills in students.
– Other outstanding schools include Colegio Sohail in Fuengirola, Colegio Atenea in Torremolinos, and Colegio Jacaranda in Benalmádena, all of which are recognised for their quality of education and for promoting a holistic approach to the education of their students.
– The inclusion of these schools in the national ranking is a great recognition of their academic excellence. These schools are proof that public education can offer high quality programmes, capable of competing with the best nationally and internationally. MALAGA PROVINCE
Farmer Protest Update For Wednesday in the Malaga Region: {Translation}
– This Wednesday, 21 February, a demonstration called by these groups will take place, this time in the centre of the capital of Malaga, where tractors and people on foot will gather, starting at 10:30 am.
– The secretary general of UPA Malaga, Francisco Moscoso, explained the routes that the tractors will take in the city, which will enter from two different points. One will enter from the Guadalhorce valley area, and the other will come from Antequera.
– The group of tractors coming from the Guadalhorce valley will travel along the A-357, entering the city via Avenida Blas Infante, passing through Plaza Manuel Azaña, Avenida Andalucía, Puente Tetuán to the main Alameda, passing through the Tres Gracias roundabout, continuing to Plaza de la Malagueta, where they will turn around and go in the direction of the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio (at the beginning of Calle Larios).
– The other group of tractors will come from the Antequera area, who have arranged to meet at 08:00 hours at their cooperatives to set off from there to the capital. This group will go from the A-92 to the A-45, where they will be joined by farmers from other municipalities. In Malaga they will enter via Avenida Jacinto Benavente, passing through Ramón y Cajal, Jorge Silvera, Martiricos, Calle Mármoles, Calle Armengual de la Mota to Avenida Andalucía, where this group will join the previous one and continue the route together. Inside the city, during the entire route of the tractors, there will be a free lane for the emergency services.
– Moscoso pointed out that there will also be buses from all the municipalities of the province, which will bring farmers and stockbreeders to the capital, to the bus stop near the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio. These groups will meet from 10:30 am at the Paseo del Parque. And until 14:00 hours they will maintain this mobilisation, when the agricultural organisations will share their manifesto on the situation of the sector.
– The next official date announced by the organisations is 29 February, which will consist of a tractorada (tractor convoy) on the province’s roads.

Overworked Doctors & Patients Dying Of Neglect- Both Screwed By The Mismanagement Of The Andalucian Health Service (SAS) – New Doctors Promised More Than 14 Months Ago Still Not Here, Promises Of Temp-Worker Short-term Contracts Being Converted To Long-term Ignored Plus Other Failures: {Translation}
– The population of Malaga is growing and ageing, which means that there is a demand for more care. However, the health centres are not receiving the doctors promised by the Regional Ministry of Health or the replacements needed to cover sick leave, leave of absence, retirements and reductions in working hours. The consequences are overwhelmed professionals and patients who take longer to get an appointment. The situation has been denounced this Tuesday by the Malaga Medical Union (SMM), which has demanded “an immediate increase” in staffing levels to bring them into line with the demographic reality.
– The organisation pointed out that almost 40 primary care doctors promised at the end of 2022 by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) for the Malaga-Guadalhorce district have still not arrived. There are 33 family doctors and five paediatricians to unload the most saturated health centres. But they are still pending. For the president of the SMM, Antonio Martín, “it is negligence” on the part of the Administration as it means recognising the lack of resources without the agreed solutions being put into practice.
– In fact, he pointed out that the positions have been created, but no doctors have been assigned to them. Martín stressed that the work that these newly created quotas were going to take on “continues to be absorbed by the professionals who are there”. These doctors who are not arriving are the so-called quota doubling, committed to fulfilling the agreement of the Interterritorial Health Committee of 2019 so that each family doctor is assigned a maximum of 1,500 patients and each paediatrician a maximum of 1,000 children.
– But according to SMM data, almost 60% of family doctors in the Málaga-Guadalhorce district have quotas of more than 1,500 users. There are even professionals with more than 2,000 charts. In the case of paediatricians, 41% have quotas of over 1,000, reaching 70% in the Guadalhorce Valley. The most overloaded health centres are Alhaurín de la Torre, Alhaurín el Grande, Campanillas, Cártama, Churriana, Coín, Colonia Santa Inés-Teatinos, El Cónsul, Limonar, Puerta Blanca and Rincón de la Victoria.
– “Time goes by, the population increases, the population is getting older and has greater care needs, and the number of visits has increased since the pandemic without the Administration providing this health district with sufficient resources,” summarised the SMM’s Primary Care spokesperson, Mariángeles Bernal.
– And it is not only the quota doubling that is not forthcoming. Not all healthcare workers on sick leave have their appointments rescheduled either. There are many, due to long-term illness or retirement, that take “months” to cover. This means that “those consultations that are not replaced are distributed among the rest of the medical consultations, which are already overflowing,” insisted Bernal. In its report on Tuesday – in which the SMM focused on the area of Malaga and Guadalhorce – the organisation acknowledged the “great efforts” of this district to reduce the number of unreplaced absences. “However, there are still many vacancies to be replaced and there is no confirmation as to when the promised new quotas will be created,” Bernal said. In addition, he demanded “100% substitution” so that the staff is always full.
– Failure to meet the 35-patient-per-doctor-per-day cap.
The result of the shortage of doctors is that in most cases the agreement with the SAS for a maximum of 35 patients per day per family doctor and 25 per paediatrician is exceeded. “The agreed figure is exceeded in almost all centres; it is even almost doubled during peak periods,” added the SMM spokeswoman. For this reason, the union urges that “concrete and effective measures be adopted to comply with the signed agenda pact” and that these be extended even to small centres, with less than three doctors.
– According to the SMM, the overload is such that some professionals have informed Occupational Health of the risks they are exposed to. The union did not specify how many professionals have done so. In addition to warning of the consequences for patients of the lack of staff in primary care, the union insisted on the overload generated in hospital and out-of-hospital emergencies by the “overflow” of consultations.
– The organisation also warned that the saturation causes the “flight” of residents who finish primary care specialties (family medicine and paediatrics) to “another MIR or other destinations”. For this reason, he called for temporary and short term contractors to be upgraded to long-term contracts as promised by the SAS, but that have remained at “one or four months”.
– The Medical Union also denounced the “chaotic situation” in out-of-hospital emergency departments and demanded that staffing levels be adjusted. According to their data, there are doctors who have to attend 50 emergency consultations per day. He even claimed that there have been cases in which one professional has attended 150 patients in one shift, as was the case in Alhaurín el Grande. They capture a boa snake of 2.30 meters near a golf course in Malaga: {Translation, 2 articles combined, summarized}
– Malaga Local Police officers have recovered a large boa constrictor boa constrictor snake that allegedly was abandoned. The events took place around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 6 February. The animal, native to Central & South America, was discovered by cyclists when they were circulating through the Cortijo Campanillas, in an area near the Real Guadalhorce Golf Club. They were surprised by the large dimensions, so they immediately alerted the local police, as reported in a statement.
– Once there, the officers located the snake, and with the help of a man who runs a pest control company, captured the animal and transferred it to the Nature Protection Group. Princess Ira Von Fürstenberg, icon of Marbella’s jet set, dies at 83:
– Princess Ira de Furstenberg has died at the age of 83 at her home in Rome. The actress and designer was married to Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe when she was only 15 years old, and with whom she had two children. In 1960, at the age of 20, she divorced her first husband and a few months later married a Brazilian businessman, Francisco Baby Pignatari, from whom he divorced in 1964 without having offspring.
– For years she was one of the great stars of the international jet set in Marbella. She was the niece of the former president of Fiat, Gianni Angela, and was very close to Rainero of Monaco.
– Between the 1960s and 1980s, she worked as an actress in around twenty films. In her eclectic filmography, she went from acting under the orders of Franco Zeffirelli to sharing the limelight with Alfredo Landa in No Desearás al Vecino del Quinto. As a jewellery designer, her pieces were exhibited at the Marbella Club, the great meeting point of glamour in Marbella. Do Not Carry Large Sums Of Money Without An Escort- Businesswoman is assaulted with a hammer while driving in Malaga and robbed of 45,000 euros: {Translation, summary}
– {I generally don’t post the all-too-common shop robberies in Malaga. However, there is an uptick in all of Andalucia with these stories of business people transporting cash, going to make a deposit or whatever, being assaulted and robbed. But how do criminals know who the big-ticket victims are and where they will be, to plan their ambush? While I have no way to confirm this internet chatter, some say that criminal gangs are threatening and blackmailing employees to provide info on the way money is handled where they work. Just like in the computer world, most thefts are, using either willing or coerced access,
inside jobs. By the way, Dobermans make great escorts, and they won’t slobber all over your car like a Rottweiler. Also, wearing a body-cam like the police use, while you are transporting large sums, can provide critical evidence should there be a robbery attempt. These are inexpensive. They are connected to the internet, record whatever is in front of you with auto focus, and instantly upload the video to cloud storage. So even if the robber takes the body-cam, the video evidence is safe. -Ed.}
– Three people have been arrested by the National Police in Malaga for the robbery of a businesswoman from Malaga who, after finishing her working day, was driving home with 45,000 euros in cash, a loot that was obtained by smashing the rear window of her vehicle with a hammer.
– The victim, an entrepreneur who runs a business related to food in an industrial estate in the capital of Malaga, suffered bruises in her attempt to prevent the theft of her purse, as reported Monday by the National Police in a statement. This “extremely violent” robbery took place at the beginning of last October, although it has not been until now that the police have cleared up the case with the arrest of three people.
– The investigation suggests that the woman got into her car and did not realise that she was being followed on a motorbike by two people, who managed to catch up with her at Avenida Ortega y Gasset. One of the assailants hammered on the rear window of the vehicle and pushed half his body inside the passenger compartment to seize the purse, which caused the victim to struggle with him in an unsuccessful attempt to save the money.
– Investigators focused their efforts on finding out who was responsible for the robbery, and also identified a third person who, according to the investigations, was not an employee of the complainant but worked in the same sector, as it is suspected that he could have provided important information to carry out the plan.
