Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

NERJA

Thieves caught on camera as they steal from diners on Nerja’s terraces:
– The good weather is arriving, terraces are starting to fill up across Malaga province and, with them, thieves are once again making their presence felt. In the past few days, business owners in Nerja have reported an increase in the number of thefts from their premises.
– The suspect in this latest case was caught on camera at Burriana’s Ayo beach bar, with a backpack in his hand, closely passing by the table where his victims are. One of them, a woman, has left her belongings on the floor, to the side. Carefully, the alleged criminal drags her bag with his foot to the table located behind her, which is empty, where he collects the bag and then makes his get-away. Enmanuel Ortega, co-owner of the establishment and son of Francisco Ortega ‘Ayo’, explained to SUR that the woman noticed the theft a few minutes later and alerted the waiters.
– For its part, at the Jamaica cafeteria, located on the central Avenida del Mediterráneo, next to the Riu Mónica hotel, the quick action of the waiters last Sunday prevented another alleged criminal from taking a customer’s purse. As seen on the premises’ security cameras, the alleged thief passed right next to where the belongings were, grabbed them and quickly fled. The employees noticed and ran after him. One of them took his brother’s bicycle and after a chase caught up with the thief. Then the alleged criminal threw the bag on the ground, but before that he had time to take the cash, around 30 euros.
– Hours later, on another street in Nerja, several witnesses also aborted another robbery attempt perpetrated by this same thief, as SUR has been able to confirm. In the images circulating on social networks, several people can be seen immobilizing him on the ground after he had stolen a bag from a woman in the middle of the street. https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/axarquia/this-how-thieves-act-nerjas-terraces-20240514135555-nt.html

Malaga investors promote the first shopping center in Nerja, scheduled to open late 2026: {Translation, summary}
– The project will be located next to Avenida Antonio Villasclaras, at the main access junction to the town from the A-7 Mediterranean motorway, at the height of the Castillo Alto industrial and commercial estate. The project is being processed by Nerja’s Town Hall to obtain the corresponding permits and will involve a private investment of around four million euros, according to José María García, the project director of the developer Suba, owned by the Sinerba group of companies.
– On a plot of 3,232 square metres, a shopping centre will be built with three floors, two of them below the level of the aforementioned avenue and one at the same level, with an approximate usable area of 3,200 square metres, on a maximum buildable area of 5,000 square metres. The ground floor will house the underground car park; the first floor will house a supermarket; the second floor will house fashion shops, furniture, accessories and a gymnasium; and the third floor, which will be at the level of the avenue, will house the food and restaurant space, as well as car parks. The constructed surface area will be around 8,100 square metres, including the roofs.
– The future Nerja shopping centre will have a total of around 100 parking spaces, both below ground and on the surface. The developer, which is being advised by the consultancy firm Retlife and Zeroonce for the marketing of the spaces, expects work to begin early next year, with an initial completion period of between 18 and 24 months, so that, if there are no setbacks, Nerja’s first shopping centre could be a reality by the end of 2026.

SALOBREÑA

Woman injured in dog attack:
– A 66-year-old woman was injured when a dog attacked her in Salobreña, Granada province. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday 12 May when the woman was walking her own dog in the Matagallares countryside. The large black Labrador-type dog, which was on its own on the road bit the woman’s right arm several times. A couple who happened to be in the area at the time managed to get the dog away from the woman by hitting the dog with a stick. The animal fled and the woman was treated at the local health centre.
– Several residents have reported the frequent presence of the dog in Matagallares which has a collar, but is free to roam in the area. The local Platadorma para la Defensa de la Seguridad (platform for the defence of safety) has warned local residents who frequent the cota 200 area of the road to exercise caution until they locate the animal. TECH

New Chrome Zero-Day Threat Under Active Exploitation:
– Google on Monday shipped emergency fixes in a new update to patch a newly discovered (“zero-day”) flaw in the Chrome web browser that has come under active exploitation in the wild. Additional details about the nature of the attacks have been withheld to prevent more threat actors from weaponizing the flaw.
– This disclosure comes merely days after the company issued patch CVE-2024-4671, to fix another active vulnerability exploited in real-world attacks. With the latest fix, Google has addressed a total of six zero-day exploits since the start of the year.
– Users of Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi are advised to update asap. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2024/05/new-chrome-zero-day-vulnerability-cve.html

Stalker Tools To Be Blocked- Apple & Android Launch Feature to Detect Unwanted Bluetooth Tracking:
– The development comes in response to reports that trackers like AirTags are being used by bad actors for malicious or criminal purposes, often abused as a nefarious tracking tool by domestic abusers to stalk their targets. A class-action lawsuit filed against Apple in October 2023 alleged that AirTags have become “one of the most dangerous and frightening technologies employed by stalkers” and that they can be used to determine “real-time location information to track victims.”
– {Let me explain…Air Tags, Kid Tracker, Find My iPhone, and other apps that monitor location have been modified by hackers to create people tracker spy apps. These collect and report in real time the location of a target smartphone, within a few meters, even if the device is turned off. Unless you disable Bluetooth, it runs even when your device is turned off. It is especially concerning to persons who’s partner has had access to their mobile. It is easy for a snooping spouse to quickly install a hidden spy app, linked to the smartphone of the snoop, that reports your exact location in real time to the snoop, and even provides daily travel logs of all your travels, even if your phone was off. Security conscious smartphone users carry their phones in “faraday” phone cases that block all signals to and from the device when not in use; many available on Amazon, some more effective than others. However, that does prevent you from receiving calls…now back to the article. -Ed.}
– Apple and Google on Monday officially announced the rollout of a new feature that notifies users across both iOS and Android if a Bluetooth tracking device is being used to stealthily keep tabs on them without their knowledge or consent.
– The feature – dubbed “Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers” (DULT) – is available in Android devices running versions 6.0 and later, and iOS devices with iOS 17.5, which was officially shipped yesterday. For earlier versions of iOS, it’s available in the following versions: iOS 16.7.8 and iPadOS 16.7.8 – iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5th generation, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, and iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st generation, macOS Ventura 13.6.7, and macOS Ventura
– As part of the industry specification, Android users will receive a “Tracker traveling with you” alert if an unidentified Bluetooth tracking device is detected as moving along with them over time, irrespective of the platform it’s paired with. On iOS, users will get an “[Item] Found Moving With You” message. Regardless of the operating system, users who receive such an alert have the option to view the tracker’s identifier, play a sound to help locate it, and access instructions to disable it. FINANCIAL

Another Major “Cloud” Hack- Hackers steal millions of files of customer and employee data in Santander bank cyber attack:
– The bank reported the incident to authorities on Tuesday morning, with some 200,000 current and former workers, as well as customers in three countries affected.
– The cyber attack succeeded in penetrating Santander systems via a database hosted on a server managed by one of their suppliers (cloud storage). Attacks of this type, on companies working for banks, are the most common, because these outsourced firms tend to have more vulnerabilities than the parent company’s security systems.
– The bank chaired said it regrets the situation and it is “proactively” informing “the customers and employees directly affected”. Santander has also reported the incident to police, who have launched an investigation.
– In March this year, Santander’s Spanish customers reported a massive computer error in which duplicate charges appeared in their accounts.
– {Santander bank customers should change all their account passwords immediately. -Ed.}
