Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

Congress approves the amnesty (177-172) that ignores the rule of law and is now in the hands of judges to decide its final fate: {Translation, summary}
– The Congress of Deputies has definitively approved the Amnesty Law, vetoed by the Senate and rejected by practically all judicial bodies, in addition to countless institutions, given the threat it poses to democracy. By 177 votes in favour with all the Government’s partners (PSOE, Sumar, three from Podemos, Junts, ERC, PNV, Bildu, BNG and the MP José Luis Ábalos in the Mixed party) and against 172 votes (PP, Vox, UPN, Coalición Canaria). In addition, there was one absence, that of Martina Velasco, from Podemos.
– The rule now enters into force and remains at the disposition of the judges who must apply it. The law puts the rule of law in check, as it erases all crimes related to 1-O, including terrorism, which has put the CGPJ, judges’ associations and the majority of prosecutors on the warpath. The only remaining dike of containment against the government’s plans are the judges, especially the Supreme Court, which can ask the Court of Justice of the European Union for a preliminary ruling to decide whether it complies with European law, and thus be able to put a stop to it. Brussels addresses “without deadline” its examination of the Amnesty Law and whether it is compatible with EU rules: {Translation, summary}
– “We do not have a specific deadline to complete our evaluation,” indicated a community spokesperson at a press conference in Brussels when asked about the time frame to find out the conclusions of the Community Executive for a text of the amnesty law that that has been known since it was registered last November and that has not undergone changes since last March.
– “Now that the Law has just been adopted, right now, the Commission will be able to analyze it,” said community spokesperson Anitta Hipper, who pointed out that Brussels will continue to pay close attention to the situation “also in the context of the preparation of the report on the State of right” which each year evaluates the democratic health of the member states and whose publication is scheduled for July 3. The Community of Madrid will “immediately” file an appeal of unconstitutionality against the Amnesty Law: {Translation}
– The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso {pic}, has announced that her Government will present “right now” an appeal of unconstitutionality against the Amnesty Law. “Today is a disastrous day for Spanish democracy, since the most corrupt law is approved. For decades we have not known anything like it, a law by which they try to forget everything that happened in Catalonia in those months,” she said during a interview on ‘esRadio’, collected by Europa Press.
– The Madrid leader has advanced this appeal, which will also be presented by the rest of the autonomies governed by the PP (including Andalucia, more on this in the Andalucia section), against the claim that the amnesty and the negotiations in Catalonia go “undercover.”
– “They take us for idiots, they try to make us believe that this is because of coexistence when we have testimonies from these last few hours, both from representatives of Esquerra and Junts, ensuring that they are going further now… they intend to continue with the independence referendum, continue with all the illegality of consultations that are not only for Catalonia,” she stressed.
– Ayuso has emphasized that they have been working on this resource for some time “in defense of the equality of all Spaniards, for legal certainty and very especially” for the “Rule of Law” because as representatives of the State they cannot allow it to “be break.” Furthermore, she has insisted that there cannot be “privileges for some politicians nor that there be autonomous communities and leaders who are not subject to the law” for, among “many reasons”, the “damage that is done to Spain”. President Sanchez’s wife Begoña Gómez demanded that she be listed as a “graduate consultant”, a holder of a graduate degree, when she has never even held a bachelor’s degree; she used the false credentials to assist a businessman, that had supported her appointment to a job for which she was not qualified, to be rewarded gov’t contracts by the gov’t led by her husband: {Translation, summary}
– The wife of the Prime Minister has since 1999 presented herself as having a “Graduate degree in Marketing”. In fact, she continues to do so on her Linkedin profile, but all the sources consulted agree that she does not have a degree, not even a bachelor degree, but rather took a course for which it was not necessary to have passed the university entrance exam.
– Around the mid-2000s she was promoted by her then employeer Grupo Inmark to the management of their marketing department and she asked to appear on the company’s website and documents as a graduate in marketing, but the company did not agree. According to sources at the consultancy firm itself, “she could not prove to her manager that she had a degree and so they refused to list her as a graduate”.
– Ever since Begoña Gómez became a public figure, when Pedro Sánchez first became PSOE Secretary General in 2014, there has been a certain amount of secrecy regarding her academic CV, and both party sources and La Moncloa (Spain’s version of the White House) have declined to clarify it. ABC insisted yesterday to confirm whether he still maintains that he holds a degree, but there was no response either.
– In the Inmark Group, as well as in the Complutense University – where she currently directs an extraordinary chair and co-directs two master’s degrees – assure this newspaper that she did not prove that she has an official degree. In fact, her “degree in Marketing” turned out to be an unofficial certificate from a course from a private centre that no longer exists as such, M&B Escuela Superior de Marketing y Negocios. The degree issued by this school, which was recently published by ‘Okdiario’, literally reads ‘Título Superior en Marketing y Administración de Empresas’. In other words, it is not even a bachelor’s degree. Schools can issue degrees, but in order for them to be bachelor’s degrees they must be officially recognised, and that centre lacked this.
– As ABC revealed, this caused deep unease among many teachers, who even complained to this newspaper that “the regulations had to be twisted a lot to allow her to direct the chair”. In fact, they had to appoint a co-director who did meet the requirements. As for the lack of a Masters degree, they had no choice but to appoint her as co-director, because without the relevant official qualifications “it was impossible to make her director”, a senior UCM official told ABC.
– In this position as co-director of the Master’s Degree in Competitive Social Transformation, Begoña Gómez had the support of the businessman Carlos Gómez, for whom she signed letters of recommendation that he presented in public tenders of the Government presided by her husband and which is now being investigated by a judge in Madrid for alleged influence peddling.
– Apparently Barrabés supported her in a position for which she was not qualified, and in return Gómez provided letters of recommendation that assisted Gómez in receiving €20M in government contracts that her husband, President Sanchez, was leader of. ANDALUCÍA

Iberdrola adds 940 charging points in Andalucia: {Translation, summary}
– Iberdrola has launched ten recharging points every working day so far in 2024, bringing the total to 1,000 points in the year and bringing the total to 7,000. In this way, it reinforces its leading position as the most extensive public recharging network in Spain. In the case of Andalusia, the amount is close to 1,000, specifically 940 points.
– In addition to this infrastructure, which is already operational, there are nearly 2,000 more points under construction and a further 3,000 awaiting various administrative procedures, which will be available in the coming months. Of the infrastructure of 7,000 points, 2,000 of them are fast, super-fast and ultra-fast recharging points. The points of more than 50 kW are part of the network operated by the Iberdrola / BP Pulse alliance.
– Iberdrola’s charging infrastructure is developed in the best locations and offers all charging speeds, allowing users to have the type of point that best suits their needs at all times. From charging in a longer parking space to ultra-fast charging, between five and ten minutes. All the points installed by Iberdrola use 100% green energy, from renewable sources with a guarantee of origin (GdOS), promoting totally emission-free mobility that contributes to decarbonisation and improves air quality.
– All these charging points are available on the Iberdrola Public Charging App, where you can view and geolocate verified information on all chargers, check their operation in real time and reserve and pay from your mobile phone. Andalusia will file an appeal of unconstitutionality against the amnesty law: {Translation}
– The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has announced that his government will present an appeal of unconstitutionality against the Amnesty Law approved this Thursday in the Congress of Deputies, understanding that it represents a “very clear breach of the principle of equality” among Spaniards.
– During his speech at an election rally in Córdoba, the leader of the Andalusian PP said that the legal services of the Andalusian regional government “are already working” to “immediately file this appeal” to “try to stop this secessionist and pro-independence challenge” and “this breach of the principle of equality and solidarity between Spaniards”.
– Moreno added that the appeal will also be presented to “stop a madness in legal terms” that is motivated by “the fragile and enormous weakness” of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, “at the head” of his Executive. “From Andalusia, as always, we will be forceful and decisive in our responses and we will use our available resources to try to ensure that Spaniards can continue to move forward together in harmony towards a common goal, which is that of progress and well-being,” Moreno added.
– The Andalusian president also criticised Sánchez for announcing “a new funding formula in Catalonia” which, in his opinion, “breaks the principle of solidarity and also inter-territorial solidarity”, which is why the Andalusian government has “no alternative” but to “appeal the recently approved law for unconstitutionality”. A law, he added, which is “the only one capable of being approved by the central government”, which “does not even have the capacity to approve the most important law that a government can approve, which is the budget law”.
– However, on the Amnesty Law “all the micro-parties that do not believe in Spain”, the “most radical”, who “have selfish interests in their territories” and whose spokespersons “have generated words” of “a certain arrogance” and “humiliation” by saying that “they have not made a mistake and that it is the State that has made a mistake”, he said.
– The Andalusian president considered that this law is “the first step in a process of unstoppable secession” and a “betrayal of the general interest of Spaniards and Andalusians”, while it is a decision that “has not passed through the ballot box” and that “Sánchez said he would never do”. For this reason, he pointed out that this Thursday is a “day for reflection”, “sadness” and “reaction”, which “is not to shout more, nor confront more, nor be more confrontational than anyone else, nor insult anyone”, but to “vote calmly, but firmly”, that is, “to react in a democratic, calm and useful way”, he concluded.

Volcanic eruption puts on fiery spectacle near Iceland’s Grindavik:
– Sundhnukagigar volcano erupts for the fifth time this year with lava shooting 50 metres (164 feet) into the air. The nearby Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, known for its large outdoor pools, was shut and its guests evacuated.
– It is Sundhnukagigar’s most powerful eruption since the volcanic system became active three years ago. The fiery spectacle began shortly after the end of an eight-week-long eruption that occurred between Hagafell and Stora-Skogfell on the same Reykjanes peninsula. MIDDLE EAST

Israel seizes Gaza’s entire border with Egypt, presses with raids into Rafah:
– Israeli forces have taken control of a buffer zone along the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, the country’s military said on Wednesday, giving Israel effective authority over the Palestinian territory’s entire land border.
– Israel also continued deadly raids on Rafah in southern Gaza despite an order from the International Court of Justice to end attacks on the city, where half of Gaza’s 2.3 million people had previously taken refuge. Earlier on Wednesday, Israel sent tanks on raids into Rafah. They had moved into the heart of Rafah for the first time on Tuesday despite an order from the top United Nations court to immediately halt the assault on the city. The US-built pier in Gaza broke apart:
– A string of security, logistical and weather problems has battered the plan to deliver desperately needed humanitarian aid to Gaza through a U.S. military-built pier.
– Broken apart by strong winds and heavy seas just over a week after it became operational, the project faces criticism that it hasn’t lived up to its initial billing or its $320 million price tag. U.S. officials say, however, that the steel causeway connected to the beach in Gaza and the floating pier are being repaired and reassembled at a port in southern Israel, then will be reinstalled and working again next week. The association Derecho a Morir Dignamente (DMD) criticises the “disaster” of the Living Will in Andalucia: {Translation}
– The Andalucian Association for the Right to Die with Dignity (DMD) has denounced the “disastrous situation” of the registration of the Declaration of Advance Living Wills (DVA), known as Living Will, in the autonomous community.
– For some time now, they claim, the computer application used to register and give legal validity to the living will has had numerous failures, causing the processes to be blocked in different provinces or throughout Andalucia. “The Consejería de Salud told us that a new application was being tested that would put an end to the bugs and facilitate other aspects related to the DVA,” reported DMD.
– However, despite the Consejería’s commitment, the situation remains as bad as ever. Depending on the day, the application works in some provinces and not in others. According to DMD, it sometimes crashes in the whole region or is interrupted in the middle of the registration procedure, resulting in cancelled appointments. This problem is in addition to the structural problems of the registration system, such as the lack of sufficient opening hours or delays in appointments, among other inconveniences.
– They criticise that this situation violates the rights recognised to people by the laws of Patient Autonomy (2002) and Death with Dignity of Andalusia (2010). It is especially serious in the case of patients with advanced or life-threatening illnesses. “We always comment that it is strange that there are so many computer problems, which is not only in this current episode,” say DMD.
– Recently, the DIRAYA system, which is fundamental to the Andalucian Health System, also failed throughout Andalucia. “We must bear in mind that Andalucia would be perfectly comparable to several European countries in terms of its size and population, so why can’t an administration as powerful as the Junta de Andalucía solve these problems,” asks the DMD?
– DMD considers it essential that the IT problems are solved quickly, but also that there is a real improvement in other difficulties that Andalucians face in making their living wills. “It is essential to ensure that citizens can exercise their rights without hindrance or delay, especially at critical moments in their lives,” they conclude. FBI TAKES DOWN MASSIVE GLOBAL ARMY OF ZOMBIE COMPUTER DEVICES:
– The FBI said it has dismantled what is likely the world’s largest botnet – an army of 19 million infected computers – that was leased to hackers for cybercrimes.
– The botnet, which was spread across more than 190 countries, enabled financial fraud, identity theft and access to child exploitation materials around the world, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by FBI Director Christopher Wray. Other violations tied to the botnet included bomb threats and cyberattacks, likely leading to billions of dollars in victim losses, according to a statement from the Department of Justice.
{If you fail to have your computers annually serviced by a professional, you could very well be an unwitting participant in these heinous cyber-crimes. The typical anti-virus program is no match for these advanced hacker tools. -Ed.}

Third Major Cyber Attack In Spain In A Month – 850,000 Iberdrola customers have had their data stolen by the cyber attack: {Translation}
– Electricity company Iberdrola has been the victim of a massive cyber attack in which attackers have gained access to the personal data of 850,000 of its customers. The leak includes names, surnames and ID numbers, which could facilitate future phishing attacks and other online or telephone scams.
– Initially, the company reported that the number of affected customers was around 600,000, but after further investigation, it was confirmed that the attack compromised the data of 850,000 customers. This increase in the figure is due to the fact that the attack also affected other Iberdrola subsidiaries, such as Curenergia.
– The leaked data does not include banking information or passwords, so customers do not need to take immediate action. However, they are advised to be on the lookout for any fraud attempts and to check whether anyone is trying to contract services in their name.
– The attackers accessed Iberdrola’s customer database through one of the company’s suppliers, demonstrating a vulnerability in the tech services/cloud supply chain. Affected customers will receive a notification by email or post informing them of the data breach.
– This incident adds to a series of recent attacks on Spanish companies, including the attacks on Santander and the alleged attack on Telefónica. Iberdrola is the third Spanish company to be attacked this month. SCAMS

Be very careful- they warn of possible fraud after the Telefónica data leak: {Translation, summary}
– According to the information available, Telefónica is examining unauthorised access to its databases, in which personal data of employees and customers are stored.
– Although it appears that these databases did not contain access credentials or internet banking passwords, the OCU has highlighted the potential use of personal data in fraudulent transactions. Cybercriminals could use stolen account information in their e-mails, SMS or phone calls to victims to impersonate companies or public bodies, to convince you of their legitamacy, in order to obtain bank details and make charges at the consumer’s expense. They could even impersonate Telefónica employees. New Tech Device Allows A Vehicle’s Lock Key Fob To Be Defeated With An “Inhibitor” That Blocks The Locking Signal: {Translation, summary}
– The National Police have addressed this issue in which they said that thieves can use “inhibitors”, placed in a strategic position near parking spaces, so that the car is not locked, despite the driver pushing the lock button on their remote, and as soon as you walk away they can steal whatever is inside.
– If you use the fob to lock your vehicle, you should manually confirm that the vehicle is locked before you leave, as one officer reiterated. Source, Spanish: https://okdiario.com/motor/comprueba-siempre-que-has-cerrado-bien-tu-coche-policia-avisa-nueva-tecnica-robar-coches-12909243

Are you required to pay with a cashless bracelet at a concert? Short answer- NO! Consumer advises on how to act: {Translation}
– Have you been asked for a cashless wristband as the only method of payment at the next concert or festival you are going to attend? If you agree, perfect; but if you are not convinced by this system, you should know that its use is optional. This is what the Directorate General of Consumer Affairs of the Junta de Andalucía (Andalusian Regional Government) says on social networks.
– The ‘cashless’ wristbands include a chip that allows you to pay through them during the event, without the need to carry cash or bank cards. Their use has become widespread because, according to the promoters of this technology, it avoids queues by speeding up the management at the bars located inside the venue. These wristbands can be recharged with money by telematic means or in the place where the event takes place in areas identified as “wristband recharge”.
– However, the Consumer Affairs Department emphasises that the consumer always has the right to pay with cash, even if the concert organiser asks for the use of the cashless wristband to pay for the drinks. It is therefore not an obligation, nor can they prohibit any other payment system.
– In the event of any incident related to the cashless wristbands, the Directorate General for Consumer Affairs of the Junta de Andalucía reminds those affected that they can request free help through the telephone number 900 21 50 50 80, the email consumoresponde@juntadeandalucia.es, as well as on their social media profiles or through the Consumo Responde website.
