SPAIN
Bilderberg meeting in Madrid last weekend:
– This year the Bilderberg summit, now under way held last weekend, at the Hotel Mirasierra in Madrid, turned 70 years old. But the controversial and secretive gathering of the world’s elites shows no signs of slowing down. For decades the Bilderberg meeting, where the rich and the powerful gather behind closed doors to talk about what ails the world, has been the subject – understandably – of conspiracy theories. In recent years, Bilderberg has sought to remake itself and open up a little: more Davos than Illuminati. The conference hall is heaving with tech luminaries, including the heads of Google DeepMind, Microsoft AI, Mistral AI and Anthropic, making the event a high-level AI summit in its own right.
– But it still raises hackles from many observers. Its beady eyes, twinkling with billionaires, are this year fixed firmly on the future. Now, this event in the capital, which began on 30 May and ends this Sunday, has on its agenda current issues ranging from artificial intelligence, transhumanism, European elections, economic challenges and armed conflicts. And for many scholars they serve to debate the lines of what will decide the world’s economy. Specifically, the “future of warfare” will also be debated. And with conflicts raging from Sudan to Ukraine to Gaza, it feels like it is the spirit of the age. This grim subject is being thrashed out under the hum of police drones hovering over the hotel, making sure such luminaries as the king of the Netherlands and the head of Nato are safe inside.
– Even by Bilderberg standards, the security at this year’s conference is intense, but it managed to gear up even more when the Spanish king’s entourage swept into the venue past a traffic jam of police vans. AXARQUÍA
Shops in Vélez, Rincón, Nerja and Algarrobo will be able to open every day of the summer regardless of their size:
{Translation, summary}
– With the arrival of June, Málaga and eleven municipalities on the Costa del Sol open their Zona de Gran Afluencia Turística (ZGAT), which will allow businesses to open every day of the week until the end of September. In Axarquia, the authorisation from the Junta de Andalucía is for the municipalities of Vélez-Málaga, Rincón de la Victoria, Nerja and Algarrobo, and includes Saturdays and Sundays, irrespective of the size of the businesses concerned.
– Thus, from this Sunday all the shopping centres in the province will remain open, such as El Ingenio, in Vélez-Málaga, or the one in Rincón de la Victoria. Large food stores such as Carrefour, Lidl and Aldi will also be able to open in these municipalities.
– Shops in the province will bid farewell to the summer season on Sunday 29 September, and for the rest of the year they will have to follow the generic calendar for the entire autonomous community. Thus, from then until the end of the year they will be able to open on Saturday 12 October (Pilar and Columbus Day), Friday 1 November (All Saints’ Day) and on 1, 6, 9, 15, 22 and 29 December. Periana signs a collaboration agreement with the College of Veterinarians for the registration and control of animals: {Translation}
– Periana joins the network of municipalities in the province of Malaga that have a Municipal Register of Pets with the Official College of Veterinarians of Malaga and joins the agreement for the Application of the CER Method (Capture, Sterilisation and Return) of their animals.
– The town currently has 1,913 pets, divided into 1,804 dogs (of which 78 are considered potentially dangerous), 107 cats and two ferrets.
– The agreement on the Application of the CER Method between the Malaga Veterinary Association and the Periana Town Council seeks to provide a practical and appropriate response to the proliferation of stray cat colonies. The colonies of these felines are made up of animals of different origins, installed in the vicinity of people and other animals, so that the absence of proper sanitary control poses a certain risk to public health. Map of the 17 DGT cameras that monitor the use of seat belts and cell phones on the roads of Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– The use of a seat belt is mandatory in all seats of the vehicle, both in the city and on the highway. The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) also ensures that it is a safety element that considerably reduces the number of injuries and their severity in the event of an accident. Despite this, in the province of Malaga, in 2022, 4,035 complaints were filed for not wearing it and a total of 5,323 for using the mobile phone while driving.

TORROX
Torrox plans the remodeling of its most emblematic square for October: {Translation, summary}
– The PP government team in the Torrox City Council, with an absolute majority, has decided to plan for after the next fair in October the comprehensive remodeling of the central Plaza de la Constitución, a project that has a budget of almost 316,000 euros and an execution period of two months, and whose works were awarded last April to the Nerja company Transportes Antelo SL, with an initially planned execution period of two months. The PP government team thus responds to a request in this regard made by local residents, merchants and tourism entrepreneurs so that the improvement work does not coincide with the summer months. NERJA
Access to the Chíllar river is still prohibited, pending the awarding of its management to a company: {Translation, summary}
– Access to the middle and upper reaches of the river Chíllar in Nerja, from the barrier next to the old aggregate quarry in Frigiliana, is still prohibited, as decreed by the town council of the easternmost coastal town in the province last August. The ban is still in force, as the Junta de Andalucía has not yet completed the procedures initiated last December to award a private company the management of this protected natural environment, which has been suffering from overcrowding, with more than three thousand visitors a day during the summer months.
– The projects for the management of the access control system for the protected site by means of a fee include substantial differences on the part of these three companies. Specifically, according to the documentation to which SUR has had access, the proposed rates range from 5.8 euros plus VAT proposed by Sando S.A., to a range between 5 and 12 euros, including VAT, by Viajes Verano Azul S.L., and 10 euros by Hermanos Campano S.L., also including VAT. RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA
Rincón publishes a statement for the proper use of the beaches: {Translation, summary}
– This year, and as a novelty, the installation of tents for private use will be allowed for shade, with a maximum size of 3×3 metres at a distance of at least 15 metres from the shore at high tide. In this sense, the mayor reminded that, “it is forbidden to camp or to set up any other tents, structures with tarpaulins or other habitats”.
– The beaches will offer smoke-free zones where smoking is totally prohibited in the following areas: Rincón de la Victoria (area between Diosa Noctiluca and Plaza Pepe El Boticario), La Cala del Moral (area between Sala Mare Nostrum and accessible bathing point for people with reduced mobility), and Torre de Benagalbón (area between the mouth of the Serrezuela stream and Calle Planetario).
– Due to the exceptional emergency situation of extraordinary drought, the showers and footbaths will not be in use.
– Among other measures, it is forbidden to use barbecues/grills, and there will be no authorisation available. In the bathing areas, and during the bathing season, fishing from the shore and underwater fishing is prohibited from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. Fishing of any kind is also prohibited in the area of the cliffs of El Cantal.
– The sale of any product is also prohibited on the beach, as well as the provision of services without municipal authorisation. No vehicles may be parked or driven on the beach, and the reservation of physical space on the beaches is forbidden at any time of the day or night. EUROPE
Berlin lets Ukraine use German weapons against targets in Russia after the US also eases its stance:
– Germany joined the United States on Friday in authorizing Ukraine to hit some targets on Russian soil with the long-range weapons they are supplying — a significant policy change that comes as depleted Ukrainian troops are losing ground in the war.
– Ukrainian officials have expressed frustration over restrictions on the use of Western weapons — especially as the border region of Kharkiv has endured a Russian onslaught this month that has stretched Kyiv’s outgunned and outmanned forces. Apart from Kharkiv, Moscow’s troops are pressing in the Donetsk region further south and are assembling a force for an expected attack in the Sumy region further north, according to Ukrainian officials.
– The German government said Ukraine can use weapons it supplies against positions just over the border, from where Russia launches its attacks on Kharkiv. A day earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden gave Kyiv a green light to strike back with American weapons at Russian military assets targeting the region, according to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
– In response, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, said Friday that “Ukraine and its NATO allies will receive such a devastating response that the alliance won’t be able to avoid entering the conflict” — an eventuality that Western governments have ruled out. Energy shutdowns hit Ukraine after Russian attacks target infrastructure:
– Ukraine imposed emergency power shutdowns in most of the country on Sunday, a day after Russia unleashed large-scale attacks on energy infrastructure and claimed it made gains in the eastern Donetsk province. The shutdowns were in place in all but three regions of Ukraine following Saturday’s drone and missile attack on energy targets that injured at least 19 people. Ukraine’s state-owned power grid operator Ukrenergo said the shutdowns affected both industrial and household consumers.
– Sustained Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power grid in recent weeks have forced the government to institute nationwide rolling blackouts. Without adequate air defenses to counter assaults and allow for repairs, though, the shortages could still worsen as need spikes in late summer and the bitter-cold winter. PRODUCT ALERT
Health alert in Andalusia due to listeria in smoked salmon: fifteen brands market the affected product: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued a food alert after the presence of listeria bacteria was detected in smoked salmon from Spain marketed under fifteen brands.
– Specifically, as reported by the agency attached to the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, the bacterium is present in batches beginning with 30A4 and marketed under the brands Alepa, Distrialacant, Fajardo, Guillermo Fernandez, Hiperber, La Cuna del Salazon, Los Salaos, Pablo Campillo, Pertusa, Saez, Salazones Miguel Salinas, Samar, The Blueocean Seaffod and Tora.
– As for the format in which the product is available, they have detailed the following: Smoked salmon 80g, 100g, 200g, 250g and 300g; Smoked salmon in oil 150g, 900g and 3500g; Pre-cut smoked salmon 1.2kg, 1kg, 700g, 600g, 500g and 400g; Smoked salmon fillet 600g; and Pre-cut marinated salmon 600g.
– According to the information available, the initial distribution has been to the autonomous communities of Andalusia, Castile-La Mancha and the Region of Murcia, although it cannot be ruled out that there may be redistributions to other autonomous communities.
– The AESAN has recommended that people who have the products included in these batches in their homes should refrain from consuming them. In the event of having consumed any of the affected batches and presenting symptoms compatible with listeriosis (vomiting, diarrhoea and fever), it is recommended that they go to a health centre. – May has been a terrible month for Spanish cybersecurity. In a matter of days, Banco Santander, Telefónica, Iberdrola, the DGT and the Complutense University have fallen victim to cyberattacks, or are investigating alleged security breaches.
– In addition to these, there is an international breach that has also affected Spanish customers: the one suffered by Ticketmaster, which reportedly included the records of more than 500 million users of its ticketing platform worldwide. Ticketmaster blames its third party, cloud-based, data storage providers.
