RESUME THE REGULAR DAILY DEADLINE – 6PM
The early 3pm deadline has now been eliminated. Update: I am feeling somewhat better, but certainly not 100%. The specialist said the test results only indicate I need more tests, which is kind of what I expected. SUSFU! I have now quit their new, ineffective medications, and convinced them to give me the old-school meds that worked last time I had a flareup some years ago. These old meds for me are far more effective, and without the horrible side effects these newfangled meds caused. -Ed.

Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The UCO has seized evidence regarding the case involving Begoña Gómez at the headquarters of Red.es by order of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office: {Translation, summary}
– The Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Guardia Civil has gone to the headquarters of the public company Red.es to gather information related to the investigation affecting Begoña Gómez, wife of the President of the Government, by order of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, according to ‘El Mundo’ and as confirmed to Europa Press by sources of the investigation.
– The action of the agents takes place after the EU body took an interest in the case on 26 April and asked the head of the 41st Court of Instruction of Madrid, which admitted a complaint by Manos Limpias against Begoña Gómez, whether the procedure affected contracts signed with European funds.
– In a decree dated 26 April, to which Europa Press has had access, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) asked Judge Juan Carlos Peinado to inform him of the facts he is investigating and to specify whether the procedure “would involve the UTE Innova Next SLU- Escuela de Negocios The Valley”, made up of a company owned by the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, a beneficiary of Gómez’s “recommendations or endorsements”.
– In this decree, the deputy prosecutors Laura Pellón, Luis Miguel Jiménez and Antonio Zárate pointed out that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office “could, if necessary, exercise its competence” to investigate these contracts if it deems it appropriate, for which reason it asked the court to send it the appropriate documentation.
– In an order, to which this news agency also had access, the Madrid judge replied that the facts he was investigating included “processes for the awarding of different contracts by Red.es, among others to the joint venture made up of the entities ‘Innova Next’ – a Barrabés Group company -, ‘SLU Escuela de Negocios’, and ‘The Valley'”.
– In response to the EPPO’s request, the investigator provided a copy of the requested documents, although he did not rule on the competence of the investigation in relation to the contracts with European funds, as it is up to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office itself to determine this.
*RED.ES FILES DEMANDED*
– As part of its investigation, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office asked Red.es for the complete files on the three contracts in question. In addition, it announced that, “once the above projects have been identified”, it should send the European Social Fund Administration Unit (UAFSE) information on whether these contracts “have been financed with European funds and, if so, whether they have been certified”.
– Since the European Public Prosecutor’s Office issued that decree, the Madrid judge who admitted the complaint has ordered several proceedings: including the summons of Begoña Gómez herself as an investigator for 5 July and the witness statements of several Red.es officials for 16 June. It is also noted that a separate case has been opened after receiving another official letter from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Andalusia is working on a “plan B” to “use all resources” and “not go to the extreme” of closing health centers: {Translation, summary}
– The Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Government of Andalusia has assured this Thursday that it is working on a “plan B” with the Andalusian Council of Doctors and the Medical Union that contains measures that make it possible to keep open the health centers this summer if we cannot use the 369 Internal Resident Doctors (MIR) who finish their training in September. Currently these “almost graduated” student doctors cannot be hired to work this summer, although a request for a waiver to allow them to work has been submitted. We are going to use all the resources at our disposal to avoid reaching the extreme of closing health centers this summer, but it is true that we find ourselves in a very exceptional situation.” Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/andalucia/noticia-andalucia-trabaja-plan-utilizar-todos-recursos-no-llegar-extremo-cerrar-centros-salud-20240606145955.html

MALAGA PROVINCE
The probability of rain and storms increases in Malaga for this Saturday: {Translation, summary}
– The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has increased the probability of rain in Malaga for this Saturday, due to the entry of a DANA that could also leave isolated storms on Friday night in inland areas of the province. The region of Antequera has the greatest chance of rain, with a 100% probability according to Meteorology, as well as the Guadalhorce Valley and Axarquia, with 90%. In principle, however, no heavy downpours are to be expected. Nor will it be a very prolonged episode.
– The first drops could begin to fall in the westernmost part of the province from 20:00 on Friday, even with the sun still in the sky, according to the Aemet forecast. This drizzle will affect the interior of the province more, while the coast may not be affected at all. Between 22:00 and 23:00 storms will appear in towns such as Ardales, El Burgo, Pujerra, Jubrique, Benaoján, Cortes de la Frontera, Ronda, Casares, Alfarnate and Archidona. From midnight onwards, rainfall will be widespread throughout the province, more abundant inland, and lightly in coastal areas.
– The hourly forecast shows that, in principle, the squall will dump most of the water during the night from Friday to Saturday, between 00:00 and 06:00 hours. In this period, the municipalities that could receive the most rainfall are Villanueva del Rosario, Alfarnate and Casabermeja, although the Aemet does not expect significant accumulations.
– In general, the Aemet forecasts cloudy skies with showers for Saturday 8 June in the province of Malaga, which may occasionally be accompanied by some thunderstorms, more likely in the first half of the day. Until 06:00 hours on Saturday, the probability of rainfall in Malaga city is 75%, while on the west coast the percentages range between 80% and 90% in municipalities such as Estepona, Marbella, Fuengirola, Mijas and Benalmádena. On the other part of the coast, the Axarquia, the numbers drop to 70% in Rincon de la Victoria, 60% in Velez-Malaga, and fall to 20% in Torrox and Nerja.
– As for the interior of the province, in the Serranía de Ronda they range between 75% and 80%; in the Guadalhorce Valley they reach 90% in towns such as Ardales, Cártama and Álora; in the Antequera region they are 95% and reach 100% in Archidona and Villanueva del Rosario, and in the Axarquía they range between 60% in La Viñuela, 80% in Almáchar and Canillas de Aceituno and 90% in Alfarnate.
– In any case, it will be an isolated episode that will only last a few hours and will not extend into Sunday. Not even on Saturday afternoon, as from 12:00 on Saturday the showers will be concentrated in certain inland areas and the probability of showers will drop considerably. The northern lights are back, a new opportunity to see them in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– Just a month ago, the skies over much of Spain showed a unique event in this part of the world: an aurora borealis. This phenomenon occurred on 11 May and could be observed in different regions of Andalusia, from Valverde del Camino, in Huelva, to the Calar Alto observatory in Almería, passing through Grazalema, in Cádiz, Marchena, in Seville, and even in various parts of Málaga. It is expected that from the 6th of June onwards the ideal conditions will be in place to be able to see this phenomenon in the sky once again.
– Many of the people who saw the aurora borealis last May shared it on social networks, leaving a record of a phenomenon that does not usually occur in Andalusia, or Spain. For example, the user @ArchidonaMeteo posted on X (formerly Twitter) these images of the moment in the municipality of Archidona in Malaga. Kremlin says Kyiv’s backers will face consequences after Putin says he may arm West’s enemies in retaliation:
– The Kremlin said on Thursday that Western nations which supply Ukraine with weapons to directly strike Russian territory will definitely face consequences after President Vladimir Putin said he was considering arming the West’s enemies in retaliation.
– Speaking with senior editors of international news agencies in St Petersburg on Wednesday, the Russian leader said Moscow was thinking about supplying advanced long-range weapons – of a similar nature to those the West is giving Ukraine – to the West’s adversaries around the world.
– Putin in his comments mentioned long-range missiles being supplied to Ukraine by the United States and Britain, hinting he might move to arm forces fighting their overseas interests. “We are thinking that if someone thinks it is possible to supply such weapons to a war zone in order to strike at our territory and create problems for us, then why do we not have the right to supply our weapons of the same class to those regions of the world where there will be strikes on sensitive facilities of those countries that are doing this to Russia?” said Putin. “So the response could be symmetrical. We will think about this.”
– When asked on Thursday if the Kremlin would name countries or regions to which Russia might supply arms in this way, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said:
“Of course not. The president said exactly what he wanted to say, and it’s a very important statement that is very transparent that the supply of weapons that will be fired at us cannot go without consequences, and those consequences are certain to come.”

String of mysterious attacks across Europe opens new front in Russia’s war on the West: {The Telegraph}
– First, a warehouse in east London being used to supply aid to Ukraine burned down. Weeks later, an Ikea in Vilnius, Lithuania, mysteriously caught fire.
– Swedish investigators were already looking into the possibility that several railway derailments could have been caused by a state-backed saboteur.
– Then an inferno engulfed the largest shopping centre in Warsaw, Poland’s capital. It was Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, who began joining the dots to suggest the West was under attack by Russian espionage. “We are examining the threads – they are quite likely – that the Russian services had something to do with the Marywilska fire,” he said last month.
– His claims were further bolstered when a former Russian soldier was arrested north of Paris this week after explosives detonated in his hotel room.
– Warnings from European intelligence agencies that Russia is plotting acts of sabotage on the Continent in its escalation of the stand-off with the Nato military alliance have been thrust into the limelight.
– Despite the lack of sophistication in some of the alleged acts of sabotage, military facilities have also been targeted.
In Germany, two men were arrested for allegedly plotting to blow up a Nato site in the south of the country that is used to support Ukraine. The Russian-German dual citizens were arrested after they were caught carrying out what the interior ministry said was “surveillance” of the US military facility.
– Poland arrested a man it said was suspected of helping Russian intelligence prepare an attack on Mr Zelensky. The country’s railways, which carry military aid east to Ukraine, have also been targeted.
– A Western official said: “We are seeing sabotage continue as another ascent of Russia’s behaviour.”
– These more advanced incidents will further raise questions over the unexplained explosions at a BAE Systems munitions factory in Wales, which supplies shells used in Ukraine, and at a similar facility owned by German arms firm Diehl. RECALLS
A tuna in oil is recalled from a well-known supermarket for containing glass fragments: {Translation, summary}
– The Spanish Food Safety and Nutrition Agency warns of the presence of glass fragments in jars of white tuna in olive oil marketed under the Carrefour Extra brand. The batch has been withdrawn by the company itself after being detected within its own self-monitoring system.
– Specifically, the product concerned is called Bonito del Norte in olive oil -branded Carrefour Extra- and is sold in a 280 gram glass container with barcode 3560071085858. Its batch number is L-1827.
– The chain asks those customers who may have the product in their homes to refrain from consuming it and encourages them to go to their nearest shop to return it and receive a refund. “This warning refers exclusively to the batch and reference indicated, the rest of the products are not affected”, they clarify. META faces call in EU not to use personal data for AI models:
– A META (Fakebook/WhatsApp/Instagram) plan to use personal data to train its artificial intelligence (AI) models without seeking consent came under fire from advocacy group NOYB on Thursday, which called on privacy enforcers across Europe to stop such use. NOYB (none of your business) urged national privacy watchdogs to act immediately, saying recent changes in META’s privacy policy, which comes into force on June 26, would allow it to use years of personal posts, private images or online tracking data for the Facebook owner’s AI technology.
The advocacy group said it has launched 11 complaints against META and asked data protection authorities in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Spain to launch an urgency procedure because of the imminent changes. FINANCIAL
ECB delivers on rate cut pledge, lowers interest rates for the first time since 2019, despite inflation worries:
– ECB cuts deposit rate to 3.75% from 4.0%.
– The decision was nearly unanimous, with only Austria’s central bank governor Robert Holzmann objecting to it.
– ECB President Christine Lagarde {pic} attempted a difficult balancing act at her news conference when she was asked if the central bank would continue to dial back its steepest ever streak of rate hikes. “Are we today moving into a dialling back phase? I wouldn’t volunteer that,” she said. “Is the dialling back process underway? There’s a strong likelihood.”
– Arne Petimezas, an analyst at Dutch broker AFS, described her message as confusing. “I still don’t know if she wanted to suggest that the likelihood of additional cuts is low or high or that the ECB will be on hold for a long time,” he wrote.
