Portovelis moves to the night of Saturday 15th June and to the Plaza de Las Carmelitas in Velez to celebrate its third edition: {Translation, summary}
– The Portovelis market will be held for the third time on Saturday 15th June. On this occasion the day changes (it will be held on Saturday), the time (it will take place at night to avoid the high temperatures) and also the setting, as it will be held in the Plaza de Las Carmelitas. An event that has already had the support of neighbours and shopkeepers in the first two editions and now seeks to continue its growth in this third edition.
– For this event, the number of participating traders has increased, with more than 40 stalls taking part. There will be music by the Electroduendes. We will have the Cristina Gallardo Dance Academy and the ANNE Association. And we will also have the patio of the Town Hall as the venue for the Art Market.

Partido Popular (PP) wins European election in Malaga province for the first time in 25 years:
– The conservative Partido Popular (PP) won Sunday’s European elections in Malaga, which means the party is the first political force in the province in EU elections 25 years after winning the last ones, in 1999. With this victory, the party led locally by Patricia Navarro completes the board having won the Andalusian elections of 2022 and the municipal and general elections last year.
– The socialist PSOE, the winner in the last EU poll in 2019, came second, while the results strengthen hard right Vox as the third provincial political force. The surprise of the election day was Se Acabó la Fiesta (The Party’s Over), the group promoted by controversial analyst Alvise Pérez, who collected the vote of citizen discontent and indignation with the traditional parties and came in as the fourth most voted.

The Costa del Sol of the ‘guiris’ votes for the PP in the European elections- Nerja to Manilva: {Translation, 1st 5 paragraphs}
– There are more than 350,000 foreign residents on the Costa del Sol. Many of them voted in the European elections, others did not. The British were left out for the first time. The result is that the PP won again.
– In Malaga city, the main reference point, 38.49% of the votes went to the PP. Support in Marbella rose to 40.77%.
– Torrox has one of the largest German communities in Spain. In this municipality the PP won more than 40% of the support. It rose to 42% in neighbouring Frigiliana and 41% in Nerja, which boasts views from a Balcón de Europa teeming with ‘guiris’, as European residents on the Costa del Sol are traditionally known. In the east, Vélez-Málaga received more than 40 per cent support and Rincón de la Victoria 41 per cent.
– Benalmádena voted for the PP by more than 39%. Fuengirola voted PP with 44% of the vote.
– Mijas has a Town Hall department just for foreigners. Most of them are British, who could not vote in these elections after Brexit, but still the PP also won with 34% of the support. It did so in Marbella and also in exclusive Benahavís. The municipality of the big mansions, where the wealthiest residents are located, supported the PP with more than 50% of the electorate.

PP and PSOE achieve victory in the European elections in fifteen municipalities of Axarquía each, although the PP win in those with the largest population: {Translation}
– In Vélez-Málaga, the Partido Popular obtained 10,747 votes yesterday, 1,582 votes more than in 2019, which represents an increase of 13.61 percent, while the PSOE lost almost 4,500 votes compared to the result of five years ago. The socialists, the second most voted party in the municipality of Velez, lost 7,259 votes yesterday, Sunday 9 June, compared to 11,832 in the last European elections. VOX was the third most voted party, with 3,633 votes (604 more than in 2019), followed by ‘Se acabó la fiesta’ with 2,182 votes. SUMAR got 1,068 votes and PODEMOS only had 636 compared to 3,075 five years ago when it was the third most voted party in the municipality. The turnout in the municipality of Velez was 42.31 percent, almost 16 points less than in 2019.
– According to data collected by Cadena SER Axarquía, in Rincón de la Victoria yesterday there was also a resounding triumph for the PP with 7,901 votes, 17.65 percent more than in 2019, the PSOE lost 6.23 points and obtained 4881 votes. VOX rose by 1.08 per cent and added 1,824 ballots; ‘Se acabó la fiesta’ obtained 1,561 votes; SUMAR 1,045; and PODEMOS 677 compared to 2,475 five years ago. In the municipality of Rincon, the turnout fell by 8.94 percent to 50.93 percent.
– In Nerja, the PP also won, although it obtained almost 600 votes less than four years ago, given the low turnout which in this municipality barely exceeded 40 percent. Yesterday, the PP won 2,317 votes, the PSOE 1,707, VOX 627, ‘Se acabó la fiesta’ 386, SUMAR 240 and PODEMOS 133.
– In Torrox, the PP won with 1,982 votes, 66 more than in 2019, while the PSOE was left with 1,313, 714 votes less than five years ago. VOX got 587, SUMAR 369 and ‘Se acabó la fiesta’ 354.
– The Partido Popular (PP) also won in Alfarnatejo, Algarrobo, Archez, Benamocarra, Canillas de Albaída, Comares, Cómpeta, Frigiliana, Moclinejo, Sedella and Totalán.
– The PSOE gained more votes in Alcaucín, Alfarnate, Almáchar, Benamargosa, Canillas de Aceituno, Colmenar, Cutar, El Borge, Iznate, Macharaviaya, Periana, Riogordo, Salares, Sayalonga and La Viñuela.

Schools in Andalucía will be allowed to finish classes at noon in event of periods of extreme heat this summer:
– As of Monday 3 June schools in Andalucía are permitted to end classes at midday, cutting short the school day, in the event of periods of extreme heat. Such are the instructions from the Junta de Andalucía’s ministry for education. Early class dismissals are in any case voluntary, each school can decide for themselves, but this must also be authorised by parents; students and staff who remain in school will complete their usual timetable or working day.

Russia’s top Su-57 stealth fighter jet hit for first time, Ukraine’s military intelligence says:
– Ukraine hit a prized Russian Su-57 fighter jet stationed deep inside Russian territory for the first time, Ukraine’s main intelligence directorate (GUR) reported Sunday morning. Ukraine says the aircraft was damaged following a strike on the Akhtubinsk airfield in the Astrakhan region in southern Russia, 360 miles from the front line.
– Satellite imagery provided by Ukraine’s military intelligence appears to show the aircraft standing intact on June 7 and damaged on June 8.

– The June Strawberry Moon will be extraordinary. The night of this Full Moon on June 21 is just a day after the summer solstice (June 20), the longest day and shortest night of the year.
