Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

The PP urges the government to curb “uncontrolled” illegal immigration, which is attracting more to come: {Translation}
– The PP spokesman, Miguel Tellado, has accused the Government of the “unprecedented migratory crisis” that Spain is going through, especially the Canary
Islands. According to the spokesman, the arrival of almost 25,000 migrants in the country in an irregular way so far this year is the responsibility of the “neglect of the Government of Pedro Sánchez” and, in his opinion, Spain has become “a sieve”, due to its geographical situation, in addition to the “abandonment” by the State.
– For this reason, the opposition urges Sánchez to take measures agreed with all the communities, as they are the ones that have the responsibility for unaccompanied minors. “The PP cannot speak on behalf of its communities because it would be disrespecting the autonomous communities. It must be resolved in the sectoral conference where the government commits itself to curbing uncontrolled illegal immigration, which has a knock-on effect”.
– The leader of the PP has also expressed his opinion along these lines. Hours earlier, during an interview on Onda Cero, Alberto Núñez Feijóo defended that the communities of the PP will attend to migrant minors up to the “maximum available”, but has asked for “limits”. Sánchez’s EU fund director resigns after OKDIARIO uncovered the judicial investigation into her husband: {Translation, summary}
– The Director General of EU Funds of the Government, Esperanza Teba, has resigned this Tuesday after the revelations of OKDIARIO about the judicial investigation of her husband, Ángel Sánchez Arenas. This newspaper revealed that the Audiencia is investigating the father of her children for fraud in relation to alleged crimes of creating false documentation, the use of false documents and fraud.
– The complaint that opens the case claims that the husband of the senior official of the Ministry of Finance swindled a huge sum by usurping the ownership of several companies and their millions in assets. In addition, this newspaper reported the link between his uncle-in-law, Carlos Sánchez, and the Malaya case, for which he was previously convicted. Teba’s husband went to see his close relative in prison and in those years he took charge of the controversial businesses in the Dominican Republic.
– In this way, the person responsible for the 140 billion in funds that the European Union has promised Spain was married to a businessman with a very dubious reputation.

ANDALUCÍA
The transfer of 454 migrant minors, that the government sends as adults, collapses the capacity of the Board: {Translation}
– The lack of coordination between administrations in the face of the immigration phenomenon is jeopardising the Junta’s capacity for the reception and protection of unaccompanied minors arriving from other countries. The Regional Minister for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Loles López, has revealed that since last November the Spanish Government has transferred 454 migrants considered adults from the Canary Islands to Andalusia, who once they were in this community it was concluded that they were minors, so the community took charge of their guardianship.
– This circumstance has collapsed the capacity of the regional administration to attend to these children and adolescents, which is already at 115 percent.
– According to Andalusian government sources, the Spanish government does not recognise these transfers of migrant minors disguised as adults, which is why they were identified as minors after the Public Prosecutor’s Office intervened and following a warning from the social organisations that work with them. On occasions, the true age of these minors is difficult to determine, although there have been other cases, such as that of an eleven-year-old boy who was transferred to Andalusia as an adult.
– In the first half of this year, Andalusia has attended to a total of 1,949 migrant minors, which is 34 percent more than in the same period last year and just 300 less than in the whole of 2023, when 2,242 were attended to, according to data from the Regional Ministry. These sources explain that the Junta is taking on the care of these minors who arrive as adults with its own resources, which has so far cost three and a half million euros, which is why it is calling on the government not only for funding, but also for information and coordination to deal with this emergency.
– As an example of the deceptions that dominate this situation, Loles López revealed that in the Regional Ministry they have found out through the press that a meeting scheduled for 18 July with the Ministry to address this issue has been brought forward to the 10th without any official communication.
– Moreover, the community continues to receive unaccompanied minors arriving directly to its shores by different means without the government having recognised its status as a border territory, as it has done with the Canary Islands and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. Between last year and this year, the arrival of more than 500 minors directly to Andalusia has been recorded.

The Andalusian Regional Government has cancelled 435 tourist flats in Malaga for non-compliance with regulations: {Translation, summary}
– A total of 435 licences for tourist accommodation in Malaga have been withdrawn by the Junta de Andalucía for non-compliance with the general plans and “other regulations”. This was stated by the Andalusian Government, which put the number of tourist flats that have had their licences revoked in the eight Andalusian capitals at the request of the respective town councils at 2,445. Ahead of Malaga, Seville, with 721 cancellations of this type of property, and Cadiz, with 617. This is followed by Granada, with 316, 140 in Almería, 87 in Huelva, 79 in Jaén, and 50 in Córdoba, according to data from the Regional Ministry of Tourism. Serious Hack of the Official Gazette of the Government of Andalucia (BOJA)- if they cannot secure the BOJA, the most critical website for the Andalucian government’s legal system, how can they be trusted with any sensitive data?: {Translation, summary}
– The Board is studying denouncing a falsification of the BOJA for a “hoax” posting that summoned FP teachers to go to class in July. The Minister of Educational Development and Vocational Training of the Government of Andalucia, Patricia del Pozo, described this incident Tuesday as “very serious” and a “regrettable hoax”, the falsification of a publication from the Official Gazette of the Government of Andalucia (BOJA).
– The Junta de Andalucía has already commissioned its legal services to study this case and file a complaint against the authors of this hoax. {This is absolute nonsense. We are talking about a sophisticated, critical computer system, a core component of the gov’t and the services it provides! The flaws need to be investigated with a full system integrity analysis by an independent, bonded computer security specialist, NOT by yellow-pad toting lawyers. As this flaw has been successfully exploited, how many other undetected flaws continue to be exploited? There are plenty of security experts in Malaga that can do the job. After all, Malaga is home to Google’s flagship cybersecurity center, and Google got some sweet financing incentives and tax breaks for selecting Malaga. I would suggest it is time for our Junta President to call in a favor. -Ed.} Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/andalucia/noticia-junta-estudia-denunciar-falsificacion-boja-bulo-convocaba-profesores-fp-ir-clase-julio-20240702091634.html

The Mayors’ Forum concludes that Malaga needs two more desalination plants and three new reservoirs: {Translation, summary}
– A new edition of the Metropolitan Mayors’ Forum was held this Tuesday in the Salón de los Espejos of the Town Hall. The metropolitan forum, organised by the Ciedes Foundation, determined that the situation of drought and scarcity is serious and that Malaga needs a territorial development model that establishes joint parameters for water use in the different municipalities.
– As for the proposed infrastructures, there are few surprises: new reservoirs (Gibralmedina on the Guadiaro, Cerro Blanco on the Grande and the enlargement of La Concepción), inter-basin pipelines, more desalination plants (in Vélez and Mijas) and new methods of collecting reclaimed water for irrigation. TORROX
Axaragua guarantees irrigation to five irrigation communities with new pumping station in Torrox: {Translation, summary}
– Axaragua, has taken a step forward in optimising the use of reclaimed water in the municipality of Torrox. They have announced the completion of a series of works at the Iara and Manzano wastewater treatment plants. These works, which cost 50,000 euros, have been advanced by Axaragua and will subsequently be paid for by the Central Board of Users of the Guaro. The works have had a completion period of one month and have resulted in substantial improvements for agricultural irrigation in the area.
– The president of Axaragua stressed that this initiative is complementary to the one carried out by the Junta de Andalucía, which invested in the tertiary treatment of four wastewater treatment plants in Axarquia for the use of reclaimed water. “We have gone a step further and have managed to use the entire volume of reclaimed water from the IARA and Manzano treatment plants, guaranteeing irrigation to the five irrigation communities regardless of their location,” explained Martín.
– The main action consisted of the installation of a new pumping station that connects the Manzano treatment plant with the Iara treatment plant by means of a five-kilometre pipeline. This infrastructure makes it possible to use all the reclaimed water without wasting a single cubic metre into the sea. At present, the Iara treatment plant was supplying water to communities located to the west, such as El Sindicato, Río de la Plata and Santiago El Morche, which did not require all the available flow, causing a surplus of 640 cubic metres. Thanks to the new connection, this surplus can now supply the communities of Güi, Manzano and Milla Verde, which previously suffered shortages.
– “We have managed to ensure that any excess reclaimed water from IARA is stored in the Manzano WWTP tank, and the replacement of the pumps has allowed us to increase the pressure required by some communities”, explained the CEO. In addition, the works have included the installation of two pumps capable of lifting 100 cubic metres per hour each, adaptations to the stainless steel piping, and the installation of electrical panels with variators and expansion of automatons. NERJA
Petition started in Nerja against reggaeton beach festival which is expected to attract 10,000 fans:
– Former women’s association members have started a petition against The Reggaeton Beach Festival (RBF) due to take place on Nerja’s Playazo beach on the eastern stretch of the Costa del Sol on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July. A number of former members of the now defunct Feministas de Nerja group have started collecting signatures via social media against the festival, which they are calling “an affront to women’s rights”.
– The women have voiced their “absolute rejection and repulsion” for the ‘reggaeton’ festival that the town’s youth council has organised. “The festival will feature well-known national artists of this musical style. As feminist women we want to show that the choice of this festival is an affront to women’s rights, because the lyrics are a synthesis of a culture that incites rape, sexual assault and shows absolute contempt for the identity and freedom of women,” the group’s social media presence says.
– The group has called on the town hall, “who have the good will to celebrate International Women’s Day, the day of the fight against gender violence, as well as to carry out workshops to promote equality, not to betray the rights of women, with festivals like the one programmed”. They say, “It is not possible to declare one’s support for the struggle of women and, at the same time, support a musical genre that denigrates women, and we ask that in the future this corporation seek the opinion of local feminist associations.”

What is Reggaeton music, and why does it upset local feminists?: {Britannica}
– Reggaeton, {a} genre of music largely shaped by the African diaspora, blending such styles as dancehall from Jamaica, reggae en español from Panama, el underground from Puerto Rico, and hip-hop from the United States. Reggaeton’s signature characteristics include a beat called “dem bow” and lyrics sung primarily in Spanish.
– Although the beginnings of reggaeton are disputed, many historians point to Panama City, where the descendants of West Indian workers, many of whom had emigrated from Jamaica and Barbados to help build the Panama Canal, created a new type of music called reggae en español. It arose in the early 1980s when MCs, including Leonardo (“Renato”) Aulder and Edgardo Franco (who would later be known as El General), began translating Jamaican dancehall, an updated form of reggae that had become popular in the 1970s, to Spanish.
– Although the performers covered many English-language songs, they also created a few of the genre’s earliest hits, including Renato’s “El D.E.N.I.” (1985). The song speaks to the unique discrimination Black English-speaking Panamanians often experienced. About the same time, hip-hop was growing in the United States, and artists from New York City were rapping about racism in that country.
– One of that genre’s earliest hits, “The Message” (1982) by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five {vid}, recounts the troubles of living in an underfunded inner-city neighbourhood. Hip-hop soon spread to Puerto Rico, where performers, notably Vico C in San Juan, began rapping in Spanish. By the 1990s both hip-hop in Spanish and reggae en español had converged on the island, forming a type of music called underground.
– Underground was cultivated in nightclubs, notably at The Noise, which was founded by DJ Negro. The Noise was where Ivy Queen, one of the few women in the male-dominated genre, Daddy Yankee, and other future reggaeton performers tested their talents. It was also the spot for the perreo, a sexual dance move that soon became associated with the music. Like reggae en español and hip-hop in Spanish, underground was known for having homophobic, misogynistic, and sexually explicit lyrics.
– However, it also addressed racism and life in the caseríos, the low-income housing projects on the island. Indeed, during the 1990s underground singers and listeners, many of whom lived in the caseríos, were targeted as drug dealers and other criminals during the government’s anti-crime campaign, Mano Dura Contra el Crimen (“Iron Fist Against Crime”). Yet the initiative only grew underground’s popularity and strengthened its reputation as a music of resistance.
– At about the turn of the 21st century, underground became known as reggaeton. Performers continued writing provocative lyrics, as in Tego Calderón’s “Loíza,” (Listen to “Loíza” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVuoi-vS5ag ) but other artists, notably Daddy Yankee, avoided politics and made their lyrics more radio-friendly.

ALGARROBO
Algarrobo enables 120 parking spaces on the coast: {Translation}
– The coastal municipalities of the province are working flat out to receive the flood of visitors expected in this new summer, which will be historic in terms of tourist numbers. Thus, if last week it was the Consistory of Torrox which announced the provision of almost six thousand places in different plots, this Monday it was Algarrobo, which has a coastal strip of just two kilometres, between Mezquitilla and Caleta de Vélez.
– Specifically, the Algarrobo Town Hall, with just 6,800 registered inhabitants, has prepared and adapted several plots on the coast to create 120 new parking spaces, which will respond to the increased demand during this summer period. On the one hand, the plot located on Calle Casa Balate, next to the roundabout at the entrance to Algarrobo Costa via the A-7206 regional road, has been extended and adapted.
– As reported by the Consistory of Algarrobo through its social networks, these works will accommodate more than one hundred new parking spaces, in addition to the 400 that already existed in this space. For its part, the Town Hall has also arranged and adapted a plot located in the central Avenida de la Torre Derecha, also in Algarrobo Costa. With this action, more than twenty new parking spaces have been created on this plot of land.
– The Consistory has announced that during this past week there has been carried out the cleaning and repair of several rural roads in the area of Zarzaparrilla. Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/axarquia/algarrobo-habilita-120-plazas-aparcamiento-costa-20240701162946-nt.html

– Firefighters raced to the scene and managed to extinguish the flames, which gutted two vehicles and caused damage to several others. Full article: https://www.surinenglish.com/malaga/axarquia/several-vehicles-gutted-during-early-morning-blaze-20240702121452-nt.html

Dutch right-wing government installed as Wilders’ shadow looms large:
– Dutch anti-Islam populist Geert Wilders saw ministers from his party sworn in for the first time ever on Tuesday {pic}, as the Netherlands’ new right-wing government was installed almost a year after the previous administration resigned. Far right leader Wilders, the clear winner of last year’s general election, will not be part of the government himself, but his shadow will loom large as he continues to lead his Freedom Party from parliament.
– Wilders, who was convicted for discrimination after he insulted Moroccans at a campaign rally in 2014, only managed to strike a coalition deal with three other conservative parties in May after he gave up his bid to become prime minister. Instead, the cabinet will be led by the independent and unelected Dick Schoof, a career bureaucrat who has led the Dutch intelligence agency AIVD and was the senior official at the ministry of justice. LaLiga Demands €450 After ISPs Log Subscriber’s Visits to Pirate Servers:
– This February, Spanish football league LaLiga obtained a court order that supposedly allowed it to pursue mere viewers of pirate IPTV. A local court soon clarified that viewers would not be targeted. However, letters from LaLiga’s lawyers, demanding 450 euros to prevent legal action, run counter to those assurances. That the letters appear to rely on evidence supplied by Spanish ISPs, indicating which of their customers accessed specific ‘pirate’ servers, is of even greater concern!
– In some respects, this sounds not dissimilar to an old school pay-up-or-else scheme, but as we suspected when reporting on this back in March, this goes way beyond anything seen before in a piracy case.
