Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.
We are DigameXtra sponsors, so our contact info can be found everyday in the Sponsor’s Section.

SPAIN

The PP (Conservative Right) embraces Vox’s (Populist Right) proposal and asks for the deployment of the Army on the African coasts to stop immigration: {Translation, summary}
– The PP continues to toughen its stance on immigration, in a crescendo that advances a step further every day. On Thursday, the PP, through the mouth of spokesman Miguel Tellado, asked the Government to deploy the Armed Forces on the African coasts to stop the departure of canoes heading for Spain, a proposal that Vox has been putting forward for years and which the PP had not joined until now. The PP’s demands come after yesterday the popular leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, asked the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, for help from the EU “to control immigration”. “I am concerned about the increase in illegal immigrants in Spain,” said the PP leader on Wednesday, who has also toughened his position on the reception of unaccompanied minors after meeting on Monday with the main regional presidents of the PP, several of whom are very reluctant to accept more minors, arguing that their systems are collapsed.
– The PP’s parliamentary spokesman, Miguel Tellado, today urged Pedro Sánchez’s government, firstly, to “lean on the EU and ask for help”, and secondly, to “deal with the problem of irregular immigration at source, so that these boats do not leave”. In an interview on Antena 3, Tellado added: “The Government can use the Armed Forces to defend our borders and deploy a series of boats to prevent these cayucos, these boats that put the lives of the people on them at risk, from leaving the sea and finally reaching our country”.
– The PP’s proposal to deploy the Armed Forces against irregular immigration is very similar to what Vox has been proposing for years. Vox called in Congress for the activation of the National Defence Law and the National Security Law to allow warships to prevent the entry of boats carrying immigrants into Spanish territorial waters. This Thursday, the leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has branded the position of the Popular Party as false: “The PP is swindling its voters. It voted in favour of regularising half a million people. The PP is responsible for the “call effect” (attracting new migrants). Mr Feijóo is saying that the minors must be distributed throughout Spain and that leads to the call effect. On the one hand they say that the call effect must be avoided and then they vote for the call effect to take place. And then, of course, we have to take on board Vox’s proposals, such as sending the navy to monitor the seas and combat human trafficking”, he said.
– In November 2020, Admiral Teodoro López Calderón, Chief of Staff of the Spanish Navy (AJEMA), ruled out Vox’s proposal to apply a naval blockade. And he pointed out that the “legal and moral” obligation of a warship in the event of encountering a patera would be to rescue its occupants, not to impede its advance. Moreover, proposing the deployment of “a series of vessels to prevent these cayucos from leaving”, as Tellado says, implies taking for granted that African countries would accept foreign military patrolling their coasts without an agreement of mutual interest. Spain has already deployed the Guardia Civil in Mauritania to help that country, after reaching an agreement with its authorities.
– Irregular immigration is on the rise in Spain, in line with the rest of Europe’s borders, which are under pressure, among other things, from worsening conflicts in the Sahel, Sudan and Syria. In 2023, Spain closed with almost 57,000 irregular entries (82% more than the previous year), a rise that can be explained by a new reactivation of the Canary Islands route. The focus this year is also on the islands, where more than 19,000 people have arrived, almost 80 per cent of those who have managed to enter irregularly throughout the country. The main departure points for the boats to Spain are Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal and Algeria. Sánchez sets up a socialist ‘truth committee’ with PSOE officials for his plan against the free press: {Translation, summary}
– Pedro Sánchez has presented this Wednesday the Avanza Foundation, a “laboratory of ideas” linked to the PSOE whose aim is to put forward “ideas of progress in the face of the reactionary wave that is sweeping the world”. The Socialist has been promoting this project for months. One of the first lines of work will focus precisely on one of Sánchez’s short-term objectives: to tackle what he considers to be “disinformation” or fake news, that is, his attack on the free press.
– Sánchez has presented this foundation as a “guide” to “orient” his decisions as head of government. “It will provide knowledge, analysis, shed light on complex issues and, more than ever, it will help to dismantle narratives based on hoaxes and falsehoods”, he stressed. In this sense, he announced the creation of a “working group” to “address the risks of disinformation for the survival of democracy”.
– Sánchez is targeting the media that reveal sensitive information for him or his wife, Begoña Gómez, who is accused of influence peddling and corruption in business. Gómez is summoned to testify on 5 July. Source, Spanish: https://okdiario.com/espana/sanchez-monta-cargos-del-psoe-comite-verdad-plan-contra-prensa-libre-13097092

Sánchez’s 1984 World- His media censorship plan to silence critics of his radical agenda violates the European standard to which he clings: {Translation, summary}
– The regulation that the EU approved during its current presidency is to protect journalists, not to censor them!
– In addition, it is mandatory for all countries and prevails over national law, such as the one now announced by the Government!!
– Pedro Sánchez, in an interview on Cadena Ser on Monday, spoke again about the implementation of his “democratic regeneration plan” {Yikes! Whenever radical socialists say they want to regenerate democracy, expect trouble. Remember Pol Pot ?} and some of the measures he intends to adopt. Once again, he used the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) as an alibi to justify the need to do so. It so happens that this regulation was approved under the Spanish presidency of the EU Council and that its original spirit was precisely to protect Western democracies from populist drifts such as those of Viktor Orbán in Hungary or Jaroslaw Kaczynsky in Poland.
– Its vocation was never to exercise control over the press, limiting its freedom, but rather to protect journalists and the media from possible political interference. Some of the measures announced by Pedro Sánchez, as well as some of the decisions and attitudes displayed by him and his entourage, are in serious conflict with the same European regulation under which he claims to protect himself. Here are some examples of the abuses:
– “Transposing” a law that does not require it. The government and the president insist that their regeneration plan consists of “transposing the new media freedom law that was approved in April in the European Parliament” (orig. «trasponer la nueva ley de libertad de los medios de comunicación que fue aprobada en abril en el Parlamento Europeo»). {What the heck does “transposing a law” even mean? -Ed.} The truth is that the aforementioned regulation does not need to be transposed, as it is a directly applicable regulation and its legal status is superior to that of the national and regional laws of the Member States.
– Tackling the “impunity of the pseudo-media”. (Pseudo-media meaning all those that do not support the Sanchez agenda.)
– Control of state advertising- only funding his supporters.
– Ignoring editorial freedom and independence.
– Forced depoliticization of public media.
Read the full article, in English translation, explaining the despicable way Sanchez is turning EU laws upside down, intentionally misinterpreting them to support his radical Left agenda. This Orwellian “newspeak” of Sanchez is straight out of 1984:

AXARQUÍA

Farmers denounce the “brutal” increase in the price of irrigation water in Axarquía: {Translation, summary}
– Regenerated water from the treatment plants of La Axarquía and Peñón del Cuervo {pic} in the capital of Málaga is barely maintaining the struggling farms, that until just a few years ago were a flourishing subtropical sector in the eastern region of Málaga, where an estimated 14,000 hectares are already cultivated with mangoes and avocados.
– Fortunately for the area’s farmers, after the ‘miraculous’ rains last Easter, they can breathe a sigh of relief after the water supply from the dam was re-established for this summer. Thus, almost two years later, until 27 September, the producers will have a maximum flow of three cubic hectometres, which means around 459 cubic metres per hectare. The reservoir, which also supplies 14 of the 31 municipalities of La Axarquía, has just over 29 hectometres, double the reserves of a year ago.
– However, although they are saving the mango and avocado groves, the regenerated water from the treatment plants is causing a real headache for the farmers, as the price has increased sevenfold compared to what they were paying for the regulated water from the reservoir. Leopoldo López, a farmer from one of the Torrox communities and a member of the Junta Central de Usuarios del Sur del Guaro, warned that with the use of reclaimed water, the cost per cubic metre “has shot up” in recent years, with a price that is six or even seven times higher than what was paid when the resources were only from the reservoir. He explained that in the case of his community they are paying 70 cents per cubic metre, compared to just 8 or 10 cents per cubic metre for water from the Viñol dam alone.
– López explained that the irrigation communities that receive reclaimed water have to pay for the electricity costs of the motors for pumping and pumping up to the levels where the farms are located, from the treatment plants, and for the analyses, which are weekly, at the request of the Board. “We are asking the administrations to move towards the Murcia model, where the farmer does not pay anything for the reclaimed water from the treatment plants, because we already pay for it in our domestic bills,” said López, who emphasised that the use of reclaimed water prevents wastewater from being dumped into the sea. MALAGA CITY

Malaga Rent Control On The Way Says Minister: {Translation, summary}
– The Minister for Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduy (Sumar, communist) {pic} has visited Malaga in the framework of the IV Assembly of the Network of Local Entities Agenda 2030 and has entered fully into the issue that is top of the political agenda these days in Malaga: the problem of housing shortages and prices and the possible collision with the tourism sector. The Minister is clear that illegal tourist flats must be prosecuted and clear regulatory measures must be taken and, above all, the mechanisms of the Housing Law must be used to cap rental prices according to the reference indexes set by the Government. This has only been done so far by Catalonia.
– According to the data he offered during his appearance before the press, in Malaga, tourist housing has multiplied by 14 in the last eight years: “The supply of flats for tourist rental is already greater than that of residential flats. This situation is obviously out of control and we have to act”.
– On rent and housing prices, he wanted to be clear: “We have the tools to be able to act. We have a Housing Law that allows us to declare a stressed area and therefore to apply reference indexes to be able to control rental prices. But it is up to the autonomous communities to make this decision. I urge the president of the Junta de Andalucía and the other presidents of the communities governed by the PP to apply the Housing Law”.
– The Minister also welcomed the latest announcements by the Ministry of Housing that open the way for residents to veto tourist rentals inside buildings and communities. TORROX

Two arrested for kidnapping and torturing a man for eleven days on a farm in Torrox: {Translation, summary}
– The National Police have arrested two men, aged 39 and 43, both of French nationality, for their alleged responsibility in the eleven-day kidnapping of a Maghrebi citizen, who had a piece of his ear cut off during his captivity on a farm in Torrox (Malaga). The captors sent the victim’s family a video of the mutilation and, based on it, demanded 1,400,000 euros for the ransom.
– Although it has not been revealed whether the victim’s entourage agreed to the economic demands of a network related to drug trafficking, the kidnapped man was eventually released in an isolated spot in the municipality of Mijas (Málaga), with numerous injuries that showed signs of the torture to which he had been subjected. In a search of the home of one of the arrested men, in Estepona (Malaga), the agents seized an assault rifle -Ak-47-, three pistols and half a thousand cartridges of different calibres, among other effects. For its part, the competent judicial authority has ordered the provisional imprisonment of the two suspects.
– The kidnapping in question took place in April 2023, although it is only now that the National Police have completed the investigation and the judicial secrecy of the proceedings has been lifted.Source, Spanish: https://www.axarquiaplus.es/dos-detenidos-por-secuestrar-y-torturar-durante-once-dias-a-un-hombre-en-una-finca-de-torrox/

Óscar Medina demands that the Government rectify and not marginalize the Eastern Costa del Sol from meetings to improve mobility along the Malaga coastline: {Translation}
– The mayor of Torrox, Óscar Medina, expressed his perplexity this morning after learning that the municipalities of the Eastern Costa del Sol have been excluded from the working meetings convened by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Spanish Government to address the problems of mobility in general and the solution of a coastal train, in particular, for the coastal strip of the province of Málaga.
– “This gesture, as well as a lack of respect, shows that we are not part of the medium-term planning of the Government of Sánchez”, warned Medina, who has demanded an immediate rectification, claiming that “we are also part of the Costa del Sol and we also suffer the mobility problems, so it is not acceptable that we are left out of this planning. We understand that all the municipalities of the Costa del Sol should be present, from Nerja to Algeciras”, he stressed.
-For Medina, the Government’s decision to exclude the Axarquia coastline from the meeting to be held on 17 July is confirmation that “the Government of Sanchez goes for headlines but lacks a real strategy to improve mobility on the Costa del Sol and the Andalusian Mediterranean Axis”.
The Mayor of Torrox has criticised this “unilateral decision” of the Ministry of Óscar Puente, stressing that “it seems that the Minister is more comfortable dividing and confronting, but in terms of mobility, their claim of a railway solution that links the entire Andalusian Mediterranean Axis is not accurate,” he said. UK

UK’s Labour set to sweep into power with huge majority, exit poll shows:
– Keir Starmer will be Britain’s next prime minister with his Labour Party set to win a massive majority in a parliamentary election, an exit poll on Thursday indicated, forecasting Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives would suffer historic losses.
– Centre-left Labour was on course to capture 410 of the 650 seats in parliament, an astonishing reversal of fortunes from five years ago when it suffered its worst performance since 1935.
– The result would give Labour a majority of 170 and would bring the curtain down on 14 years of increasingly tumultuous Conservative-led government. “To everyone who has campaigned for Labour in this election, to everyone who voted for us and put their trust in our changed Labour Party – thank you,” Starmer said on X.
– Sunak’s party were forecast to only win 131 seats, the worst electoral performance in its history, as voters punished them for a cost-of-living crisis, and years of instability and in-fighting which has seen five different prime ministers since the Brexit vote of 2016.
– The centrist Liberal Democrats were predicted to capture 61 seats while the right-wing populist Reform UK party, headed by Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage who had pledged to destroy the Conservative party, was forecast to win 13. USA

New polls widen Trump’s lead, pressure mounts for Biden to step down: {Translation, summary}
– For a long time, Joe Biden has seen himself as the only Democrat capable of defeating Donald Trump. He succeeded in the 2020 presidential election and repeated a strong showing in the 2022 midterm elections. Biden was intended to be a transitional president, with the historic mission of overcoming Trump’s mandate and passing the baton to a new generation. His predecessor, however, withstood his defeat and took control of the Republican Party. Trump is once again the candidate to beat, but polls after last week’s Atlanta debate indicate that the president will not be able to beat him. That increases the pressure for Biden to withdraw. At the same time, Kamala Harris is emerging as the favourite to replace him.
– The media, political and financial offensive against the president’s candidacy continues unabated. This Wednesday it was the prestigious Boston Globe that called in an editorial for him to step aside. At the same time, a second congressman raised his voice in public to ask him to step aside. Donors also called for a change of candidate. Biden has adamantly denied that he is considering dropping out of the race for re-election. However, if the president becomes convinced that he has no chance of being elected, the chances of him throwing in the towel multiply.
– Polls are beginning to point to a decisive gap between the two candidates. This Wednesday, The New York Times published a poll conducted by Siena University which claims that the gap in voting intention in favour of Trump has doubled from 3 to 6 points among likely voters, so that now, between the two candidates, 49% would choose Trump and 43% would choose Biden. The gap is even wider (49% to 41%) among registered voters. Never has Trump had such a large lead in a poll by the New York Times, one of the newspapers that has openly called for Biden’s withdrawal.
– On Wednesday, the President took part in a medal presentation ceremony ahead of Independence Day, the US bank holidays. He read his speech from a teleprompter, but his movements and gestures are still those of an old man. At 81, his physical deterioration is evident, and a hypothetical second term would mean that he would be in office until he was 86. Still, the president seems for now convinced that he can reverse voters’ perceptions by stepping up his agenda. El Puente Christian Fellowship (Vélez-Málaga): We are a friendly, multi-national, Bible believing community of Christ. We meet each Sunday at 11am to worship the Lord. We enjoy a time of worship with contemporary songs and traditional hymns, and a message brought to us by our Pastor, one of our members or a visiting speaker.
The church meeting hall is situated at: Res: El Olivar 5, 8 Bajo 1, Calle Arbequin, Velez Malaga 29700.
Full directions and further information can be found on our Facebook page, or you can contact us by email on elpuentechristianfellowship@gmail.com or by phone on 665 62 63 42.
For those who cannot join us in person, we aim to stream Sunday services via the Facebook page (subject to a good internet connection).

– Millie and Olive
are, we assume siblings, thrown over a fence and left to fend for themselves, luckily the home owners saw them before their dogs did, and managed to get them in a secure area. Now safe in kennels. Estimated to be approximately 4 months old, small to medium Podenco cross. They have started their vaccinations, and are available for foster or adoption. Please email us for more information.
– Please take a look at our website, where you will find more information and photos, plus details of other dogs and pups that we have in our care. Our adoption costs are 110e for pups that have been fully vaccinated, rabies, chip and passport and 180e for older dogs that have all vaccinations, papers and have been neutered. This contributes towards their vet and care costs, and helps us to continue rescuing abandoned dogs and cats.
