Hint: the wasabi they serve on sushi plates is a mild, tourist version, it is light pistachio green. You can ask for more wasabi and you’ll get the darker green full strength version, they also have hot red chili paste sauce by request. I get both, for free, every time I visit. So don’t be shy, and please tip well! -Ed.}

SPAIN
Twelve of Spain’s autonomous communities did not receive any of the migrant minors they agreed to take in despite the funds they received for doing so: {Translation, summary}
– The central and Canary Islands governments arrive at the sectoral conference on Wednesday with no guarantees as to what will become of their proposal to make the distribution of migrant minors from the Canary Islands compulsory. The national leadership of the Partido Popular has repeatedly stressed its preference for a voluntary system. However, the figures of the results of the last distributions agreed with the regional governments show that the current mechanism does not work: of the 373 transfers committed to in 2023, only 67 have taken place, despite having state funds allocated for this purpose, according to government sources.
– Last year, all the autonomous communities agreed on the distribution of 373 minors from the Canary Islands and Ceuta, financed by the central government with 20 million euros in total. But the majority of autonomous communities did not take in a single child on the basis of this non-binding pact. The only regions that received some of these children were Andalusia (30 out of 36 agreed), Aragon (16 out of 24 agreed), Asturias (16 out of 32) and Navarre (5 out of 17), but none of these regions even fulfilled the places offered.
– “We are encountering a lot of resistance. We propose the reform of article 35 of the Immigration Law because the voluntary mechanisms are not being complied with,” said Sira Rego, head of Youth and Children,in a recent interview with elDiario.es. “The Popular Party must clarify why in the face of a voluntary mechanism agreed upon and ratified at a sectoral conference, we find that practically 85% of the places have not been covered, that voluntary agreement of 2022 and 2023 has not been complied with, yes State funding has been transferred for the reception of these boys and girls and, however, the agreement has not been complied with,” questioned the minister in charge of convening the sectoral conference this Wednesday.

ANDALUCÍA
Andalusia will welcome about 30 migrant children transfered from other Spanish communities starting this Wednesday: {Translation, summary}
– Andalusian centres will take in around 30 migrant children from other communities as of Wednesday. The definitive figure will be established after the meeting of the Sectorial Conference for Childhood and Adolescence held in Tenerife to decide the fate of some 400 migrant children, which will be attended by the Regional Minister for Equality, Loles López, although it is a similar figure to that which is taken in each year. This is the distribution established within the Ministry’s Response Plan for 2024, in which Andalusia collaborates in solidarity with the other autonomous communities. Within this plan, the Junta has an agreement with the autonomous city of Ceuta due to its geographical proximity, so that the minors arriving in Andalusia come mainly from this city with a simple transfer; the children arriving in the Canary Islands are transferred to other territories.
– Within this Response Plan, in 2022 Andalusia was allocated 30 minors but, in the end, it took in 38 migrant children for whose support the State transferred 1.9 million euros; in 2023, 36 minors arrived out of the 30 initially planned with the corresponding transfer of funds from the State, and the final number for this year remains to be seen. It should be borne in mind that for 30 places, the ministry pays the Junta 1.6 million euros, an amount that increases as the number of children rises.
– What is the difference with respect to other years that has sparked the controversy? The fact that Andalusia has already taken in 454 migrant children who have arrived in its territory with the appearance of adults since November 2023, minors that the state does not recognise and therefore does not send funds for their care and maintenance. Nor does it take them into account when establishing this distribution. This volume of minors means that the available centres in Andalusia are at 115%, with 645 places available to accommodate these children.
– The Regional Ministry of Equality, Loles López asks for “time and funding” to be able to set up emergency contracts with entities and associations that can take in these minors in dignified conditions. It should also be borne in mind that, in general, these minors do not all arrive in Andalusia at the same time, but in different batches depending on the circumstances. The Junta is willing to take in migrant minors but asks for funding due to the “collapse” of the system: {Translation}
– The Regional Minister for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality, Loles López {pic}, has pointed out that Andalusia is willing to accept the new distribution of minors if there is “funding and time” to guarantee care, while warning that the region has 645 specific places for migrant minors, which are currently at 115% occupancy. “The government is bursting the seams of this system of reception and care for minors,” he stressed.
– This is what López said at a press conference this Tuesday in Seville, to report on the situation of migrant minors in the community before the Sectoral Conference, which he will attend in person and which he has complained that “we found out about its convening through the media instead of through the Ministry”, something which, in his opinion, “is another example of the lack of institutional loyalty with which the Government is dealing with this issue and which does not help to reach an agreement”.
– López also accused the Minister for the sector, Sira Rego, of “insinuating that the Andalusian people do not show solidarity”, something “categorically false”, and gave as an example the opening of the Víznar shelter in Granada to take in migrants transferred from the Canary Islands. “Andalusia also takes in migrant minors from Ceuta through the Response Plan, and we are a borderland and migrants arrive on the coast”, she added.
– The head of Social Inclusion has stated that in the community “there are 454 migrant minors transferred by the central government under the guise of adults, brought in through the back door without information, coordination or funding”. On this point, he stressed that Andalusia “is taking care of these children on its own, without a single cent from the Spanish Government”, adding that “the overwhelming information contradicts the Minister’s crude account”.
– On the Executive’s migration policy, he stressed that “it cannot be based on transferring minors as if they were suitcases in the hold of an aeroplane” and urged the Government to “exercise its powers in migration and foreign policy, working with the countries of origin and involving the European Union”. AXARQUÍA
The PP demands greater agility from the Government and criticises it for “taking 14 months to commission the drafting of the project for the Axarquia desalination plant”: {Translation}
– The secretary general of the PP in Málaga, José Ramón Carmona, has demanded “greater agility” from the Spanish Government in the construction of the Axarquía desalination plant, criticising the fact that “14 months have passed since this action was declared to be of general interest to the State until the addendum has been approved which will allow the formalisation of the entrustment to the state public company Acuamed”.
– Carmona stressed that “more than a year has passed since that announcement in the campaign for the municipal elections of May 2023 and, since then, Sánchez’s government has not moved a single piece of paper to promote this infrastructure, which is urgent for the province”, calling for “speed in the deadlines, which can be estimated from now on, once this assignment to Acuamed has been formalised”.
– “From the Partido Popular we do not understand that the Government sells as an achievement to take 14 months to carry out a bureaucratic process,” he said, noting that “once the action entrusted, Acuamed will be responsible for drafting the project, as well as its administrative processing and subsequent tendering of the works”.
– In this way, he stated that “we are at the beginning of a journey that may be more or less long, depending on the priority that the PSOE wants to give it, which is taking great pains to continue to confuse and confuse public opinion about who is responsible for this action, despite the fact that the Government itself has confirmed in parliamentary response that it is solely responsible for the desalination plant in Axarquia, thus dismantling the lies of the Socialists for months”.
– At this point, the popular leader has regretted that the sub-delegate continues to point the finger at the Junta de Andalucía “when the competence of this work is solely and exclusively of the Government of Spain”, a framework in which he has warned that “the Socialists can not give lessons in water issues in Andalusia, quite the opposite, after his time in the Board or when Sanchez remains unexecuted in the province water works worth more than 2,000 million euros”.
– Thus, he recalled that the Andalusian government of Juanma Moreno has made an “unprecedented” investment in the province of Malaga, where it has allocated 400 million euros since 2019 and “where it is promoting projects that the Socialists did not execute during the drought of 1995 and that had been in the drawer for decades”.
– In this regard, Carmona has claimed that, currently, “42% of all public works being carried out in Andalusia are water works, which have to do with supply, improving the quality or regeneration treatments of wastewater.
– The secretary general of the Malaga PP, who reminded the Sánchez government that it has taken more than two and a half years to authorise the Iznájar water transfer, mentioned other pending actions by the government in the province, such as the Mijas desalination plant, the Gibralmedina dam, the enlargement of the La Concepción dam, the Genal water transfer, the Cerro Blanco dam and the integral drainage of the Costa del Sol, among other projects. Don’t Believe The Headlines With Claims By SAS Of 21% Shorter Waiting Lists, These Are Misrepresentations Of The Facts Taken From A SAS Press Release – The Claimed 21% Reduction In Waiting Lists ONLY Relates To The Reduction Of Those Waiting “Who Are Already Beyond The Time Limit”: {Translation, summary}
– UGT Andalucía has reproached this Wednesday the “triumphalism” of the Consejería de Salud y Consumo de la Junta de Andalucía in relation to the reduction of the waiting lists as this “is being done while in the centres we find ourselves with less staff, with closed operating theatres and half-open or directly closed services”. The Andalusian Regional Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs, Catalina García, confirmed last Tuesday that the Plan of Guarantees approved last February to tackle waiting lists has “reduced” by 20.93% the number of patients waiting for an operation- outside the maximum legal deadline.
– Thus, as of 28 June this year, 41,920 Andalusians are on the waiting list outside the legal guarantee period compared to 53,014 in December 2023 (11,094 fewer). In addition, the measures approved by the Andalusian government have allowed the average waiting time for guaranteed procedures to be reduced by eleven days, from 150 days in December 2023 to 139 days at present.
– In relation to this reduction, the union regrets in a press release “the millions spent” on external contracts to alleviate waiting lists. “It is not at all reasonable to spend public money while the SAS is almost closed for holidays; it is not acceptable that diagnostic services cannot do what is being referred to the private sector and it makes no sense to close operating theatres when we continue to pay for patients to be operated on in private hospitals”.
– “This is not a commitment to the public health system. That is simply doing business with the health system, as you are giving money to end waiting lists that you are contributing to keep getting fatter because you have abandoned the SAS. The inability to manage and the desire to have these triumphalist headlines is costing us millions of euros now and they are not going to be the solution to these waiting lists at all,” concluded the union.

Find out if your car is affected by the cartel overpayment scandal and claim up to 10% back with OCU:
– If you bought a car between 2006 and 2013, you were probably affected by the car cartel and overpaid for it. During those years, thousands of citizens who bought a car paid an extra cost of between 10% and 15%. For this reason, the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) had to act and sanctioned this illegal practice in 2015. If you are one of those affected and do not know how to act or what to do, you can join the OCU’s complaint against the manufacturers here: [https://carteldecoches.ocu.org/?Path=}
– The car cartel was an illegal pact carried out between manufacturers and dealers between February 2006 and August 2013. This fixed maximum discounts and certain commercial conditions that, logically, benefited manufacturers and dealers and negatively affected buyers as the selling price of vehicles was much higher than it should have been. In 2020, OCU became aware of these irregularities and launched a legal action in order to help all those affected to reclaim their car purchase money.
