– The rulings, which were confirmed by seven votes to four, were opposed by the four conservative judges, who accused the court of granting ‘immunity’ to former PSOE officials. Antonio Sanz, a PP minister in the Junta, declared they would ‘still do everything possible to recover all the stolen money.’
– “No matter how much the PSOE tries to erase its past of corruption, it will not be able to cover up the biggest case of corruption in the history of Spanish democracy,” he added.

A 41-year-old motorcyclist dies in a traffic accident in Torrox: {Translation, summary}
– A resident of Nerja, David Casanova Iborra, 41, has died after the motorcycle he was driving left the road near the bridge that connects with the Torrox-Park urbanization, specifically at kilometer 20 of the A-7207 regional highway.

– About fifty people were evacuated early Thursday morning as a fire broke out in the garages of a four-storey building in Almuñécar (Granada), according to the 112 emergency coordination centre. Italy’s Meloni uses Liberal’s own “woke” anti free speech laws against them:
– A Milan court has ordered a journalist to pay Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni damages of 5,000 euros ($5,465) for making fun of her in a social media post, news agency ANSA and other local media reported.
– The journalist, Giulia Cortese, was also given a suspended fine of 1,200 euros for a jibe on Twitter, now named X, in Oct. 2021 about Meloni’s height that was defined as “bodyshaming”. Meloni took legal action against Cortese after the two women clashed on social media.
– Meloni {pic}, whose far-right Brothers of Italy party was in opposition at the time, took exception when Cortese published a mocked-up photo of her with a picture of the late fascist leader Benito Mussolini in the background. Cortese responded with further tweets including one that translates as “you don’t scare me, Giorgia Meloni. After all, you’re only 1.2 metres (4 feet) tall. I can’t even see you.” Meloni’s height is given as between 1.58 m and 1.63 m on various media websites.
– Cortese can appeal against the sentence, and Meloni’s lawyer said the prime minister would donate to charity any damages she eventually receives.
– A high number of lawsuits brought against journalists was cited this year by Reporters Without Borders, which relegated Italy five places to 46th in its 2024 World Press Freedom Index, opens new tab.
– Meloni is not new to taking journalists to court. Last year a Rome court fined best-selling author Roberto Saviano 1,000 euros plus legal expenses after he insulted her on television in 2021 over her hard-line stance on illegal immigration.

Boxing News- MMA legend Conor McGregor promotes Spain’s first official bare knuckle boxing event, in pictures:
– The BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fight Club) press conference was held Thursday at the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella, ahead of the upcoming event.
– Legendary MMA fighter Conor McGregor has been causing a stir in Marbella where he is currently promoting Spain’s first official bare knuckle boxing event.
– The fight night, scheduled for 12 October at the Marbella Arena, will feature fighters such as Franco Tenaglia and Tony Soto vying for the vacant featherweight title.
– McGregor made a grand entrance by docking his yacht at Puerto Banús on Wednesday, immediately drawing the attention of passers-by. His presence in Marbella was already generating significant buzz, but his personal Instagram post inviting fans to the launch event on Thursday amplified the excitement.
– McGregor’s appearance ensured heightened security measures at the event, where attendees learned about the rules of bare knuckle boxing. Unlike traditional boxing, these matches take place in a circular ring with four ropes and consist of five two-minute rounds. Although judges score each round, most fights typically end in knockout.

Brazil Fights Back Against AI Invasion Into Private Data, Bans Meta AI, EU Considers Similar Response:
– Meta (Fakebook/Instagram/WhatsApp) has suspended the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in Brazil after the country’s data protection authority issued a preliminary ban objecting to its new privacy policy. The company said it has decided to suspend the tools while it is in talks with Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) to address the agency’s concerns over its use of GenAI technology.
– Earlier this month, ANPD halted with immediate effect the social media giant’s new privacy policy that granted the company access to users’ personal data to train its GenAI systems. The decision stems from “the imminent risk of serious and irreparable damage or difficult-to-repair damage to the fundamental rights of the affected data subjects,” the agency said.
– It further set a daily fine of 50,000 reais (about $9,100 as of July 18) in case of non-compliance. Last week, it gave Meta “five more days to prove compliance with the decision.”
– In response, Meta said it was “disappointed” by ANPD’s decision and that the move constitutes “a step backwards for innovation, competition in AI development and further delays bringing the benefits of AI to people in Brazil.” {Excuse me…Without asking permission to access user data, and rather just declaring their intentions buried deep in a User security agreement no one reads, and in total disregard of user privacy or property rights, Meta just went ahead with it’s plans to scan everything it could find on the internet, to train its AI on data it does not own, nor have the right to save and use for business purposes! In essence, Meta broke every copyright on the entire internet! If they get push-back against this, they have no one to blame but themselves and their blind pursuit of profits. This is why I quit Fakebook. Evidently others are now seeing the level of damage the unregulated Meta data harvest introduces into the computer eco-system. -Ed.}
– The use of personal data to train AI systems without their express consent or knowledge has raised privacy concerns, forcing U.S.-based tech giants to pause the rollout of their tools in regions with stricter data privacy laws, such as the European Union.
– The Human Rights Watch reported in June how personal photos of Brazilian children have found their way to image caption datasets like LAION-5B, exposing them to further exploitation and harm through the facilitation of malicious deepfakes.
– Apple, which announced a new AI system called Apple Intelligence last month, has said it won’t be bringing the features to Europe this year due to the prevailing regulatory concerns arising from the Digital Markets Act (DMA). “We are concerned that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that risk user privacy and data security,” Apple was quoted as saying to The Wall Street Journal. {To hell with your invasive, black-box Apple products, the security rights of the public come first. Only megalomaniacs would see themselves above the existing laws, and design products specifically designed to exploit loopholes in the privacy laws.
