The price of electricity doubles this Monday to 79.5 euros/MWh: {Translation, summary}
– The average price of electricity, the so-called ‘pool’, for this Monday will more than double – specifically, it will rise by 161% – compared to this Sunday, to stand at 79.53 euros per megawatt (MWh) after this weekend prices relaxed to the level of 30 euros/MWh.
– Specifically, the average price of electricity for Monday’s pool day will be 79.53 euros/MWh, with a maximum of 133.58 euros/MWh, between 21.00 and 22.00 hours, and a minimum of almost 55 euros/MWh, between 11.00 and 12.00 hours, according to data from the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE).
– In this way, the price of electricity begins the week by resuming the upward trend that characterised the week now ending, a period in which the context of the heat wave led the commodity to climb on Thursday and Friday to around 100 euros, the highest level since the beginning of the year.
– So far in July, the daily wholesale market price has stood at 64.4 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), 14.8% higher than last month. Thus, the upward trend that began in June has continued, after a spring with extraordinarily low prices, but slowed down by the impact of photovoltaic (solar) energy. According to ASE Group analysts this week, this is a very moderate increase because, in the sunlight of the central hours of the day, prices have fallen by 24% compared to June.
– Specifically, photovoltaic has produced 26% of the electricity, leading the generation mix, covering up to 50% of the demand in the central hours of the day and thus sinking the price in the solar hours, softening the upward trend in prices. The judge in the Begoña Gómez case charges Juan Carlos Barrabés while Gómez herself has refused to testify: {Translation, summary}
– The head of the 41st Court of Instruction of Madrid, Juan Carlos Peinado, has charged the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés after modifying his current procedural status from witness to investigated. Legal sources consulted by Libertad Digital state that “Barrabés could be summoned by the judge to appear on 29 July”.
– Barrabés testified this Monday as a witness by video conference from his home before Judge Peinado, for about half an hour. The wife of the President of the Government, Begoña Gómez, is being investigated in the case for crimes of influence peddling and corruption between private individuals after the awarding of public contracts to Barrabés that included her letters of recommendation, renamed “letters of interest”.
– Barrabés revealed that he held between 5 and 8 different meetings in Moncloa (residence of Spain’s President) with Begoña Gómez and that two of them were attended by Pedro Sánchez himself. The Prime Minister left one of the meetings after receiving a phone call. According to the businessman, the purpose of these meetings was to talk about innovation and they would have taken place in the post-pandemic period.
– Manuel de la Rocha, then Secretary General and now Secretary of State for the Department of Economic Affairs and G-20 in the Cabinet of the Presidency, was present at some of these meetings. The businessman Barrabés also pointed out that another meeting was attended by a stylist.
– Neither the prosecution nor Begoña Gómez’s defence asked questions during the judicial interrogation.
– Barrabés assured in his statement that in the headquarters of his company Innova Next, located in Calle de Méndez Álvaro in Madrid, he had countless meetings with Begoña Gómez. Precisely, the judge is investigating contracts and public awards to this company of the Barrabés Group. The businessman answered most of the questions with inaccuracies and evasions. On compromising questions, the businessman said he did not remember and on other exculpatory data he answered with a lot of information. All of this also demonstrated that he was in full physical and mental capacity to testify.
– For her part, Begoña Gómez herself has refused to testify this Friday in the investigation of her alleged crimes of influence peddling and corruption in business. Pedro Sánchez’s wife has taken advantage of her constitutional right not to testify, just a few minutes after entering the courtroom escorted by several security members. Photo: Melillahoy. VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
Wildfire sparked by motorhome breakdown in Sedella is stabilised:
– The Junta de Andalucía’s specialist Plan Infoca brigade has declared the forest fire that broke out shortly after 11am this Friday in a wooded area in the Axarquia town of Sedella in Malaga province to be stabilised.
– The mayor of Sedella, Francisco Abolafio, explained to SUR that the fire had been started by the breakdown of a motorhome that was travelling along the MA-4106 regional road, the old MA-126, which connects the towns of Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno, bordering the perimeter of the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama natural park, and that it was almost completely gutted.
– The fire quickly spread to both sides of the road. Initially it was brought under control on the southern flank, but it was on the northern flank where it had spread the most, entering the forest area of the natural park in a few minutes. According to mayor, it seems that the fire was caused by a fault in the motorhome’s engine, which started to burn. The occupants of the vehicle were unharmed.
– The incident happened at kilometre 4 of the MA-4106, about four kilometres from the town of Sedella and the same distance from the town of Canillas de Aceituno, in the area known as Puerto de Sedella. MOTRIL
The least expensive municipality of Granada to rent an apartment is Motril: {Translation, summary}
– In the case of the province of Granada, the average cost of rented properties has risen by 6.3% in one year, this month standing at around 9 euros/m2. As a result, more and more tenants are looking for cheaper alternatives to settle down and make their homes.
– Within this Andalusian region, the cheapest municipality in which to rent a property is Motril. There, the average price is less than 7 euros, reaching a cost of 6.7 euros per square metre. Thus, if we take as a reference a property of 80 m2, the total monthly rental price would be 536 euros.
– According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) for 2023, there are 58,939 inhabitants of Motril. It is located halfway between Granada and Almería on the shores of the southern Mediterranean, and borders the municipalities of Salobreña, Vélez de Benaudalla, Lújar, Gualchos-Castell de Ferro and Torrenueva Costa. COÍN
Highest temperature in all of Andalusia is recorded in Coín (Malaga), the heat wave rises to 43.2 degrees: {Translation, summary}
– The heat wave this Saturday has hit the interior of the province of Malaga with particular intensity. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) had already warned to extend the yellow alert for high temperatures and has not given a respite to the mercury, which has remained above 40 degrees in many parts of the interior throughout the afternoon. Coín was also the hottest place in Andalusia, reaching 43.3 degrees at 18:00.
– Earlier, the maximum temperature was set by another inland municipality, Álora, which recorded 42.7 degrees at 17:00. Both were among the hottest in Spain, Coín in third place and Álora in fifth place, both topping the Andalusian list. In Spain as a whole, only in the Levante region have higher temperatures been recorded. Ontinyent (Valencia), with 44.2 degrees and Molina de Segura (Murcia) with 43.3, had the highest temperatures. Faulty CrowdStrike Update Crashes Windows Systems, Impacting Businesses Worldwide + Important Editorial Comment:
– Businesses across the world have been hit by widespread disruptions to their Windows workstations stemming from a faulty update pushed out by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.
“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts,” the company’s CEO George Kurtz said in a statement. “Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyber attack.”
– The company, which acknowledged “reports of [Blue Screens of Death] on Windows hosts,” further said it has identified the issue and a fix has been deployed for its Falcon Sensor product, urging customers to refer to the support portal for the latest updates.
– For systems that have been already impacted by the problem, the mitigation instructions are listed below –
* Boot Windows in Safe Mode or Windows Recovery Environment
* Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
* Find the file named “C-00000291*.sys” and delete it
* Restart the computer or server normally
– Security researcher Kevin Beaumont said “I have obtained the CrowdStrike driver they pushed via auto update. I don’t know how it happened, but the file isn’t a validly formatted driver and causes Windows to crash every time.” “CrowdStrike is the top tier EDR product, and is on everything from point-of-sale to ATMs etc. – this will be the biggest ‘cyber’ incident worldwide ever in terms of impact, most likely.”
– Airlines, financial institutions, food and retail chains, hospitals, hotels, news organizations, railway networks, and telecom firms are among the many businesses affected. Full article: https://thehackernews.com/2024/07/faulty-crowdstrike-update-crashes.html
{This is a clear warning to the world that the Internet is a fragile system, that can and will crash from time to time. This event demonstrates the need to maintain support for cash money, and telephone cellular/landline systems. During these Internet outages, it is very possible that digital/card payment systems, as well as Internet based communication systems, will be unavailable. -Ed.}

The CrowdStrike outage affected less than 1% of Windows machines, but it was enough to send the world into chaos:
– A worldwide IT outage on Friday caused by an update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike resulted in widespread disruptions to air travel, banking services, and even television broadcasts. Microsoft announced Saturday that the outage affected less than 1% — or about 8.5 million — machines using Windows software worldwide.
– In a blog post, Microsoft said the outage’s effect on businesses worldwide reflected “the use of CrowdStrike by enterprises that run many critical services.”
– Business Insider previously reported that the massive outage also reflects Microsoft’s and CrowdStrike’s market dominance {…as well as the dangers of allowing a monopoly to operate critical systems. These types of threats decrease when there is more than one company providing everything. Competing systems provide alternatives, when one of them goes down you switch to another. Data from Statista shows that Windows had about 72% of the global market share of operating systems as of February, while one estimate shows CrowdStrike’s market share in the “endpoint protection” security category at nearly 24%. -Ed.}
