Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

Judge Leading the Begoña Gómez Investigation Calls President Sanchez to Testify, Opposition Leader Feijóo Calls on Sanchez to Resign: {Translation, summary}
– {Karma…It must be remembered, Sanchez asked for PM Rajoy’s resignation in 2017 due to Rajoy testifying at the Gürtel corruption case (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-44327573). Now that Sanchez is PM, and finds himself in a similar situation as Rajoy, he wants the same protection he denied Rajoy! Very flexible, this Sanchez fellow. -Ed.}
– The judge in the Begoña Gómez case, Juan Carlos Peinado, has summoned the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to testify on 30 July as a witness in the investigation opened against his wife for corruption and influence peddling, in a judicial move that the PSOE yesterday described as a “set-up”, and which the Popular Party considers should lead to the resignation of the president.
– The investigator justifies his decision on the need to investigate the element of “influence” that this type of criminal offence requires, as well as “the possible relationship of the person under investigation (Begoña Gómez) with an authority”. On this point, he alludes to the jurisprudential interpretation of “influence peddling in a chain”. And so he accepts the request of the popular accusations -Vox among them-, who, after the businessman Carlos Barrabés revealed that the President of the Government was present in at least two of the meetings he held with Begoña Gómez in the Moncloa, considered it necessary to clarify this point. According to an order announced yesterday, by virtue of article 412.3 of the Criminal Procedure Act, it will be the magistrate who will go to Moncloa Palace.
– If the Popular Party (PP) wanted explanations, it seems they will get them, although not in the way they had been demanding. “It is really regrettable that the first time we are going to hear Mr Sánchez talk about the corruption affecting the Moncloa Palace it has to be in front of a judge because he has been called to testify. By the way, as a witness I remind Mr Sánchez that he has to tell the truth and it is something he is not used to,” PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo emphasized during his speech, in which he recalled a 2017 episode starring Pedro Sánchez himself, when former president Mariano Rajoy had to testify as a witness in the Gürtel case. “You then told Rajoy that he only had ‘an honourable way out, present your resignation before the King this very morning. Don’t drag Spain down and resign’. Well, on behalf of the majority party in Spain I ask the Sánchez of 2024 to follow the advice of the Sánchez of 2017 and write his third and final letter,” the PP leader said. Photo: Ignacio Gil. The Government proposes the creation of a council of journalists to censor the media: {Translation, summary}
– The Government proposes the creation of a council of journalists to control information professionals and, therefore, the media to which they belong, PP sources report. This is the first concrete measure that the ministers of the Presidency Félix Bolaños (PSOE) and Culture Ernest Urtasun (Sumar) have put on the table to the political formations of Congress to gather support and carry out the measures outlined broadly by the president of the Government last week.
– From the PP, its spokesman in the lower house, Miguel Tellado, complained to the media that there is “no text or, at least, no document has been delivered to us”. He then proceeded to charge against the Socialists: “The democratic regeneration plan does not exist, it is a plan empty of content. They only want to control the media that they find annoying” and prevent “publication of what the Executive refuses to tell”, Tellado was able to “confirm” after his meeting with the ministers.
– “They call it ‘Action Plan for Democracy’ and we are going to call it ‘Plan Begoña'” because, in the opinion of the Popular Party, they “want to use it to cover up a huge scandal” such as the Begoña Gómez case. It is “a plan so opportune that it was devised just after the imputation of the wife of the president of the government was known and it was explained in these Cortes Generales just in the week of her summons”, they say.

The Hidden Migration Crisis- Undocumented Migrants Flood Madrid Airport, 400,000 last year alone, when 57,000 came by boat nation-wide: {Translation, summary}
– The Minister of Family, Youth and Social Affairs of the Community of Madrid once again wrote to the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, last Friday to urge the Government to act and take the necessary measures in the Baraja’s airport “to respond to this migratory and humanitarian crisis.”
– This is not the first letter that Ana Dávila has sent to the minister in this regard. On 3 April, she sent a letter to Grande Marlaska requesting urgent action by her department – responsible for border control – and the other ministries involved, in the face of the massive influx of irregular migrants through Barajas. She also alerted the minister that this inaction and lack of control by the Spanish government was making these people “more vulnerable”, turning our country “into a gateway for human trafficking mafias, especially women and children, and putting our child protection system at serious risk”.
– The Interior Minister took almost two months to reply – he did so on 23 May – assuring that “measures had already been taken, such as the imposition of transit visas for countries like Turkey, Kenya, Somalia and Senegal, which had made it possible to reduce this irregular behaviour”, sources from the ministry told Libertad Digital. But “the reality is that the situation, to date, has not improved. And Barajas airport continues to be a sieve for the mafias”, they lament.
– The Community of Madrid has attended to 1,293 unaccompanied minors so far this year, compared to 1,300 last year, i.e. twice as many. “And half of those who are currently arriving are already arriving through Barajas”, they warn. Thus, of the 110 unaccompanied foreign minors who arrived for the first time in the region’s reception centres in June, practically half did so through this airport, most of them from Mauritania.
– In addition to this, last year more than 400,000 immigrants, according to estimates by the Community of Madrid based on official data, in an irregular situation arrived in Spain via Barajas airport, seven times more than those who arrived via the Spanish coast, which they put at 57,000. “This situation is being repeatedly denounced by the State Security Forces and Corps entrusted with airport surveillance and responsibilities for foreigners”, the ministry reminds us.
– In fact, also last Friday, the President of Madrid announced that the Community of Madrid will take legal action against President Pedro Sánchez if he does not immediately convene this Conference of Presidents. There are “fundamental issues that cannot continue to be dealt with in offices, no matter how much they try to do so”, said the president, who gave as an example precisely the migration crisis, regional funding in the midst of the debate on the funding of Catalonia and the lack of doctors.
– It should be recalled that the migration crisis at Barajas airport worsened last December. Police unions denounced that the asylum rooms had been filled with travellers with Kenyan passports {pic}. Only a month later, in January, the situation got out of control. There were attempts to escape from the asylum rooms and the waves of false travellers who ended up requesting asylum forced the Interior to set up two extra rooms in the face of the inaction of Fomento, responsible for the airfield.
– The unhealthy and unsafe conditions reached such a high level that the Red Cross refused to provide assistance and has still not returned to the airport, with Interior having to take charge of cleaning and collecting medicines for the asylum seekers. Since then, the interior has been in charge of everything, in the face of continuous protests from police unions, who point out that much of what they do is not their job.
– In recent months, the government has been resolving the migratory collapses at the airfield by giving exceptional entry permits to these asylum seekers when the four halls were full again. They solved their problem and, once on the street, they became someone else’s problem, to be precise, that of the Community of Madrid.
– The modus operandi over the last few months has been the same and the hot route that poses the problems is Casablanca-Madrid. Migrants buy tickets from Casablanca (Morocco) to South America and when they get off in Madrid to change planes, they apply for asylum. The vast majority fly with Royal Air Maroc, the Moroccan flag carrier, but some initially flew with Iberia.
– Police unions warned months ago that the only solution is the introduction of transit visas, i.e. these travellers must have an entry visa to Spain to change flights in Spain, and if they do not, it is the airline that bears the cost of repatriation. The Interior Ministry has signed some agreements, but the immigration mafias change the country of their clients according to these agreements. Heat wave continues until at least Friday, insomnia in Andalusia due to the heat- the towns with torrid nights that have not dropped below 25C: {Translation, summary}
– The second heat wave of summer 2024 has reached the peninsula today, Tuesday, provoked by a high altitude ridge, an anticyclone and an air mass overheated by sunshine. According to eltiempo.es, these weather conditions will cause the heat wave to last through Thursday.
– It is expected that tomorrow, Wednesday, the maximum peak of high temperatures will be reached, reaching over 40ºC in some parts of Andalusia. As a result, orange and yellow alerts will be activated throughout the region. These temperatures will leave tropical nights that will make it difficult to get to sleep in all the provinces of Andalusia. The optimum room temperature for a good night’s sleep should be between 18ºC and 22ºC.
– Already in the early hours of this morning, some Andalusian municipalities have experienced torrid nights, with temperatures above 25ºC, according to Aemet. All provinces have been affected by this phenomenon, with Seville, Jaén and Córdoba experiencing the highest temperatures.

Andalusia informs the government that it is already hosting 523 migrant minors- “The Government abandons formerly protected migrants when they become 18, leaves them without a response plan” says Minister Lopez: {Translation}
– The figures change almost every day because summer is a critical time for the migratory phenomenon, but the data are official, those that the Andalusian Regional Minister for Social Inclusion, Loles López, presented on Monday at the Sectoral Conference on Immigration convened by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, chaired by Elma Saiz. Andalusia is home to a total of 523 migrant minors who have arrived alone in the region and are therefore under the guardianship of the regional administration. Of these children, “468 have been transferred by the Government as adults from the Canary Islands” since November 2023 to date, to which must be added another 25 who have arrived on the Andalusian coasts in small boats and another 30 from Ceuta, whom the Andalusian Government promised to take in after the Sectoral Conference on Children held last week in Tenerife.
– The Andalusian Minister of Equality called for an orderly and humane migration, “where people are not treated as merchandise”, and reiterated the Junta’s demand for the Government to make funds and resources available to deal with a migratory phenomenon that continues to grow.
– For the Andalusian government, these figures show the commitment and solidarity of the community, but they also demonstrate the collapse of Andalusia, which has overflowed its reception places for these children. And it is not the only problem. Because behind the controversy over the reception of migrant children is their adaptation to society once they come of age. For this reason, Loles López accused the government of “neglecting and ignoring” the young migrants who have been taken into care, as it “still has no response plan or funding” in the face of the migratory crisis facing Spain and, specifically, Andalusia.
– The councillor detailed that some of these children will reach the age of majority in a few months, which means they will need resources for accompaniment and care. For this reason, she warned that in the coming months, “this situation will lead to an over-occupation of the care programmes for young migrants in exile, because the spaces available for these young migrants are already at almost 80 percent occupancy. What is the government waiting for to take action? While autonomous communities such as Andalusia show solidarity, the Spanish government turns a deaf ear and does not get involved in an issue that is of vital importance,” said Loles López.
– Look at the figures. The Junta de Andalucía has only 940 places for all children formerly in their care, to transfer to when they reach the age of majority. Of these places, three hundred are specifically for migrant minors with resources adapted to their special needs and are now 75% occupied. Of the other 640 places for former foster youth, 65% are now occupied by migrant children (416) leaving only 224 spaces for domestic at-risk youths. Andalusia, along with 8 other communities, will appeal to the Supreme Court due to President Pedro Sánchez’s “inactivity” for illegally ignoring his obligation to convene the Conference of Presidents, the prime forum for communities to advance issues to the President: {Translation}
– The Andalusian regional government, along with eight other communities, is going to go to court to demand that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, convene the Conference of Presidents, which he is obliged to hold at least twice a year, but which has not met since 2022.
– This has been announced this Tuesday by the Andalusian president, Juanma Moreno, who has stated that the Junta will present an administrative appeal to the Supreme Court for the “inactivity” of Sánchez in not convening the aforementioned Conference. “There are urgent problems and they cannot be postponed because of the personal interests of the president,” the leader of the PP-A lamented, suggesting Sanchez is intentionally ignoring the community crises of healthcare and immigration to focus on his own political problems.
– Sources of the Junta underline that the regulations of the Conference of Presidents determine that this “will meet at least twice a year” and that “it will be convened by the President of the Government, on his own initiative or at the request of the Preparatory Committee or ten presidents of autonomous communities and cities with Statute of Autonomy”. In this regard, the same sources recall that the last meeting was held in March 2022 in La Palma.
– Subsequently, on 10 November 2023, Moreno requested a new meeting by letter to Sánchez; and two weeks later, on 24 November, up to 12 presidents of autonomous communities did so, in addition to those of Ceuta and Melilla. The president of the government replied, also by letter, stating that he would convene it in the statutory manner, but “more than eight months have passed since it was requested and we are still waiting,” says the Junta. On 24 April this year, five months after the first letter, the presidents of Ceuta and Melilla sent an administrative complaint to the Socialist, recalling that “he was failing to fulfil his obligation to convene the Conference of Presidents. Three months after that request, “it has been decided to present an appeal to the Supreme Court”.
– In addition to Andalusia, the communities of Aragon, Galicia, Murcia, Castile and Leon, Madrid, the Balearic Islands, Valencia and Extremadura have also announced that they will appeal to the Supreme Court. MALAGA PROVINCE
A bank scam plot falls that stole almost 1.2 million from victims in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– The Guardia Civil has dismantled a criminal organisation dedicated to committing bank fraud with the arrest of 100 people and 151 others under investigation. Most of them are young people between 18 and 25 years old, who acted by impersonating the victims’ banks in order to defraud them. In the province of Malaga alone, nearly 1.2 million euros were swindled from more than 320 victims. The investigation has been closed after two years of analysis of numerous complaints of fraud filed throughout the province of Malaga, as indicated by the Guardia Civil in a statement.
– The Guardia Civil agents discovered that there was a common link between all of them. The criminals impersonated the telephone number of a specific bank – spoofing – from which they sent SMS to customers of the same – smishing – and then made phone calls posing as bank employees – vishing and caller ID hacking – in order to access the bank account of the victims and then make purchases and money transfers without their consent.
– This method led to the theft of almost 1.2 million euros from at least 323 victims in the province of Malaga alone. The group had a structure with people with different tasks, from the mules in charge of receiving the first transfers from the victims by creating bank accounts, to the members in charge of recruiting collaborators, managing the commissions and organising the movement of the swindled money until it was laundered.

– According to the 112 Andalucía emergency number operators, the fire broke out in a single-storey property located on the N-340 in El Morche and several witnesses reported the blaze shortly before 1am. ALICANTE
A socialist mayor’s SOS to stop the “aggressions” of a group of immigrants staying in a hotel: {Translation, summary}
– The residents of the town of Guardamar del Segura, in Alicante, “live in fear of going out into the street”. A situation of insecurity, according to police unions, caused mainly by a group of immigrants from the Canary Islands and hosted in a four-star hotel, who in recent weeks have allegedly been involved in various fights, assaults on police officers and sexual abuse of the hotel’s cleaning staff.
– The Alicante town council, led by socialist José Luis Sáez, has launched an emergency appeal following the latest events and has asked the central government for a “forceful response” to put an end to the spiral of violence that the coastal town has been suffering in the region of Vega Baja del Segura, with just over 17,000 inhabitants, which in summer can reach more than 100,000 visitors. Thus, the consistory has shown its “most energetic repulsion” with the aggressions suffered in the early hours of the 14th – during the Eurocup final – and 19th July, in the vicinity of a well-known pub, “provoked by a small group from the immigrant reception programme in the Hotel Parquemar”.
– The mayor clarifies that the situation reported to the Guardia Civil has already triggered protests and publications of different neighbours on social networks. For this reason, he has contacted the Government Delegation of the Valencian Community and the Subdelegation in Alicante to demand an immediate solution to this “unfortunate situation”. Sáez recalls that the Guardia Civil and Local Police officers “are attentive to any incident” and invites citizens to report “any type of behaviour or criminal act”, while he has sent a “message of calm” to his neighbours, who have charged against him on social networks.

– “Here you can no longer summer peacefully”, “it is not normal that these groups are not followed up and we have become a lawless town” or “my daughters are panicking about walking around the town”, are some of the comments on the mayor’s post about the incidents recorded during the last few weeks in Guardamar del Segura.
– For its part, the Professional Union of Local Police and Firefighters (SPPLB), through its president Paco Angel, has denounced the “serious and worrying” situation suffered by “what was until now a quiet municipality”. “Since the arrival of this group of immigrants, a series of violent criminal acts have been taking place which are seriously affecting public safety and creating a very serious social alarm”, he explained in an interview on Telecinco. At the same time, it urges Guardamar Town Hall to put an end to the “deficit” of local police officers, as it currently only has two officers per shift per day. UK ‘Crackdown’ on Pirate IPTV Streaming Service Operators Leads to Three Arrests & 40 Warnings:
– Anti-piracy group FACT assisted UK police to deliver cease-and-desist notices to 40 alleged pirate ‘IPTV operators’.
– The ‘crackdown’ further resulted in three arrests in Nottingham, Widnes, and Stockton-on-Tees in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Sky reportedly removed more than 3,000 IPTV advertisements from social media platforms since June.
– The term ‘IPTV operator’ isn’t explained in detail but since the 40 seemingly got off with a warning, it’s unlikely that they played a central part in the broader IPTV piracy ecosystem. These interventions took place across the UK, including in London, South East England, West Midlands, North West, North East, North Wales and Scotland. According to FACT, it’s part of a larger campaign that aims to disrupt piracy operations.
– Offering pirate streaming services is a serious offense in the UK, where several people have received multi-year prison sentences in recent history. These sentences haven’t deterred others from following in their footsteps. Illegal access to paid sports and TV content remains readily available, with vendors and operators profiting from these unauthorized subscriptions.
– There has been no shortage of news reports covering IPTV piracy enforcement actions in the UK. These interventions range from remote warnings to house visits, and arrests are no rarity either. HEALTH
If you want to save money on prescriptions, you must specifically ask for the generic version, the pharmacist has no obligation to inform you of cheaper options when presenting you with the more expensive “branded” (‘tengo marca’ in ES) drugs, that are more profitable:
– Please give me the less expensive generic version.
– Por favor, dame la versión genérica más barata.
– Andalucía’s health service backtracks and will not force pharmacies to prioritise sales of generic drugs.
– The addendum signed between the Andalusian Council of Official Associations of Pharmacists (Cacof) and the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) that obliged pharmacies to sell generic medicines and to give 5% of the turnover to SAS has lost its footing in the market, or at least a part of it has. In brief, SAS has backtracked on the obligation placed on pharmacists to sell this type of medicine, although the 5% payment will remain in force.
– However, Spain’s National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) issued a statement some weeks ago asking SAS “not to discriminate” against branded medicines in pharmacies and warning that it was making this request to “avoid filing an administrative appeal with the [Spanish] National Court.” In this way, the commission was requiring SAS to annul the addendum since, in its opinion, the addendum “prioritises the sale of generic medicines in pharmacies to the detriment of branded medicines”, pointing out that the agreement “violates” the principle of non-discrimination of the LGUM (articles 3 and 18) – a free market trading law in Spain. FINANCIAL
Money donations between parents and children- this is the maximum amount so that the Treasury does not monitor you: {Translation}
– Inheriting during life to enjoy while the children are young is one of the increasingly common practices among family members. They do this through donations of assets and assets, a maneuver through which they avoid the tax burden of inheritance tax, but which, however, can be a risk if the Treasury detects that it is being used for a purpose other than that indicated.
– The inheritance and donation tax is levied on this type of transaction and varies depending on what is indicated by each autonomous community, taking into account the place where the donor has resided in the five years prior to the donation. However, the Tax agency has the power to request information from banks on operations carried out between accounts of any amount. Entities have the obligation to inform the Tax Agency of the bank movements that are above 3,000 euros. However, it must be taken into account that donations are not exempt from taxation, even if they are below said amount.
– In fact, current legislation does not establish a limit beyond which there is an obligation to declare donations. This means that any amount we donate should be declared, although the truth is that it is not common for small deliveries of cash or gifts of little value to be pursued.
– How do you declare a donation? Through the electronic portal of the Tax Agency, the donation can be declared in a period of 30 days after its completion.This report must also state in a clear and justified manner the origin of the equity funds that have been involved in the transfer.
