Air Conditioned Restaurants: Readers are encouraged to recommend any restaurants in the area with proper air-con. Some places with small, over-worked air-con units, and/or waiters keeping the door open as they shuttle between the kitchen and their terrace, are still very warm inside, you may as well sit outside and pray for a breeze. What I’d like are recommendations for establishments where the air-con is actually effective, where you can enjoy a meal without sweating. And remember, places change over time. Places I would have recommended last year are no longer “cool” (pun intended). So, only current info please. -Ed.

Expert warns that the violin spider is in Andalucía- ‘The bites take weeks to heal’:
– Around 1,400 different spider species live on the Iberian peninsula. Of these, only three are truly dangerous: the European black widow, the Iberian black widow and the brown recluse or violin spider. The first two do not usually come into contact with humans and live in rural areas far from urban areas. However, the violin spider is more common, to the extent that it can be found in the home.
– A few weeks ago, a scientific article published in the journal of the Spanish Society of Environmental Health brought to light a case in which this species had attacked a 42-year-old man in Vizcaya on three occasions at his home between May and September 2023. The situation that put the public on alert, as the affected person in question presented wounds with a serious cutaneous necrotising condition.

The “alarming” drop in water reserves could generate supply cuts in several municipalities in Malaga: {Translation, summary}

Several patients from the Hospital Clínico Universitario de Málaga relocated after a maintenance crew detected a fungus in the center’s air conditioning system: {Translation, summary}

Egyptian pyramids may have been built with unexpected help, new study reveals:
– A new study aims to answer the centuries-old question of how the Great Pyramids were built thousands of years ago, and its findings have provided an unexpected possible answer- water. Though deserts are typically known to lack the wet stuff, the study published in Plos One, a Public Library of Science journal, on Monday theorized that Egyptians used water power to construct the pyramids.
– The Step Pyramid of Djoser, erected some 4,500 years ago, may have been built through the use of a unified water-powered hydraulic lift system, the study authors found. Previous theories surrounding how the Step Pyramid was built suggested that ancient Egyptians used a system of ramps and levers to give the structures their towering heights.
– But the new and never-before-reported theory suggests the pyramids’ architects utilized nearby canals for their construction, much like Egyptians of the time used the canals to irrigate their crops. The study argues that the ancient Egyptians used pressurized water to float the pyramid’s building stones toward the upper levels of the growing structure through an internal shaftway in a process known as “volcano” construction.
