Fri – Sun, 23 – 25 August
– Friday 23 August the Fiestas will begin at 20:00h with the mass in honour of the patron saint of Río Bermuza and the procession of the Virgen de la Inmaculada and the Cristo del Chorrillo at 20:30h with musical accompaniment by the Municipal Band. At 22:00h the Fair will begin with a performance by the singer, DJ and entertainer Evelyn Ríos. At the same time, children will be able to enjoy a bouncy castle.
– Saturday 24th, the Feria de Día will open at 14:00h, when the Mayordomos will invite you to an Andalusian snack. From 17:00h the children’s entertainment will begin with face painting, games and many more surprises, while at 18:30h the bicycle and motorbike races are scheduled. At 21:00h the party continues with live music by Duo Golden Cuba (Video Link) and a bouncy castle for the little ones. From 00:00h the jury will choose the queen of the Fair and her ladies, while at 00:15h the new stewards will be chosen, closing the day at 00:30h with a stellar performance by the singer, DJ and entertainer Evelyn Ríos .
– Sunday at 13:30h the party will start with a performance by Miguel Botana, followed at 14:00h by the tasting of a delicious paella that will be offered to all participants. Finally, from 18:00h onwards, the 2024 Fair will present its closing activities.

Spanish police seize 13,000 bottles of counterfeit rum during raids in Andalucía: {Translation, summary}
– Guardia Civil officers have seized thousands of litres of counterfeit rum during two searches carried out on industrial estates in Seville province in the Andalucía region. According to police sources, the value of the seized goods would have exceeded 200,000 euros on the market. All the bottles seized were labelled with the name of the popular brand of Barceló rum in two versions: Añejo and Imperial.
– The first search was carried out more than a week ago in a warehouse on the Aerópolis industrial estate in La Rinconada. There, police officers counted 10,656 bottles with counterfeit labels.
– The second search was carried out a few days later in another industrial estate, in Dos Hermanas. Guardia Civil officers searched a retail trade supermarket on the Ciudad Blanca industrial estate and detected 2,269 counterfeit bottles of aged Barceló rum.
– The bottles seized did not contain anything that could pose a risk to public health. However, according to sources close to the case, falsifying labelling and passing off a product as a brand that it is not, is fraud. Vélez-Málaga, Colmenar, Algarrobo and Sedella will offer 15 training courses of the Cultiva programme for young farmers: {Translation}
– A total of 16 agricultural and livestock farms in Malaga are offering training courses for 49 young farmers and livestock farmers within the framework of the CULTIVA 2024 programme.
– In the Axarquia region, the farms where 15 young people will be trained will be located in Velez-Malaga (one of them in Lagos), Colmenar, Algarrobo and Sedella. The farms in Vélez-Málaga are horticultural, subtropical fruit and banana farms; the one in Colmenar, olive farms; the one in Algarrobo, cabbage and cauliflower farms; and the one in Sedella, dairy goat farms. Throughout the province, the farms involved are olive groves, horticultural crops (cabbage and cauliflower), subtropical crops, bananas, nuts, beekeeping, herbaceous crops, legumes, oilseeds, sheep and dairy goats.
– Young farmers under 41 years of age can now submit their applications until 5 September at the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, where they can find the catalogue of courses. A search engine is also available to make it easier to locate participating farms by territory, dates and agricultural production. In the allocation of training placements, priority will be given to recently settled young people, women farmers and livestock farmers and those who have not participated in the programme in previous calls for applications. The placements will start at the end of this year and will run until 31 July 2025.
– It is designed to give young women and men farmers the opportunity to learn about the development of a viable farm, to acquire and consolidate new technical and management concepts applicable to their farm in a practical and interactive way.
– The accommodation, food and transport costs of the young people are covered by the CULTIVA programme. – The Parque Victoria urbanisation, in Rincón de la Victoria, continues to be targeted by groups specialising in housebreaking. Last Monday, between 22:00 and 22:30, two new properties were broken into and the ‘unease’ has once again taken hold of the residents.
– The concern among the residents of Parque Victoria is palpable. A couple, who have preferred to remain anonymous, express their growing concern about insecurity in the area. “We are very concerned about what is happening. We feel vulnerable, and the ease with which criminals access the urbanization is alarming,” they comment. Furthermore, they add: “If we leave home, we fear being robbed, but if we stay, we are also worried about the possibility of an assault or battery. We cannot continue living like this.”
– Testimonies from neighbours reinforce the theory that the robberies were carried out with premeditation. One of them claims to have seen a car parked outside the urbanisation, apparently waiting for the thieves after committing the crime. This neighbour also mentions that the owners of one of the affected houses were on holiday, which may have facilitated the robbery.

Rincón de la Victoria Golf Tournament will attract more than 100 golfers: {Translation, summary}
– On 29th September, Rincón de la Victoria will be the setting for provincial golf with the Añoreta Resort Golf Tournament. Ukraine attacks Moscow in one of largest ever drone attacks, meanwhile Russia is advancing in eastern Ukraine, where it controls about 18% of the territory:
– Ukraine attacked Moscow on Wednesday with at least 11 drones shot down by air defences in what Russian officials said was one of the biggest drone strikes on the capital since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022.
– The war, largely a grinding artillery and drone battle across the fields, forests and villages of eastern Ukraine, escalated on Aug. 6 when Ukraine sent thousands of soldiers into Russia’s western Kursk region.
– For months, Ukraine has also fought an increasingly damaging drone war against the refineries and airfields of the world’s second largest oil exporter, though major drone attacks on the Moscow region – with a population of over 21 million – are rarer.
– Russia’s defence ministry said it destroyed a total of 45 drones over Russian territory, including 11 over the Moscow region, 23 over the border region of Bryansk, six over the Belgorod region, three over the Kaluga region and two over the Kursk region. Some of the drones were destroyed over the city of Podolsk, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. The city in the Moscow region is some 38 kms (24 miles) south of the Kremlin. “This is one of the largest attempts to attack Moscow using drones ever,” Sobyanin said on the Telegram messaging app in the early hours of Wednesday. “The layered defence of Moscow that was created made it possible to successfully repel all the attacks from the enemy UAVs.”

Man changes his sex to avoid jail for attacking his ex-partner in Sevilla: {Translation, summary}

– The Court of Violence against Women withdrew from the case on 13 August in favour of the examining magistrates’ court. In its order of withdrawal, the court argued that the sex of the person denounced had changed, ‘now being that of a woman’, so that ‘we no longer have jurisdiction’, as this a woman versus woman case now.
– José Antonio Sires, the victim’s lawyer, maintains that the change of registered sex has been made ‘without the requirement of good faith and in fraud of the law’ and that he will proceed, among other steps, to request the annulment of the procedure in the Register, ‘and may even demand civil or administrative liability’.
In addition, he points out that there are precedents of judicial actions that ‘make it clear’ that men who change their sex ‘cannot avoid convictions for gender violence’, since the legal responsibilities that the person had before the registry rectification are maintained. So far, the examining magistrates’ court has not confirmed it will now accept the case.
