SPAIN
The Canary Islands shatter the record of arrival of illegal immigrants and will take Sánchez to court: {Translation}
– The archipelago registers 6,000 arrivals between July and August and Fernando Clavijo denounces the “abandonment” of the Government.
– On the same day that the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, announced that his government will open a ‘legal process against the state’ for its ‘neglect’ of migration issues, the Ministry of the Interior confirms the worst predictions. According to the latest report from the department headed by Fernando Grande Marlaska, so far this year a total of 25,524 illegal immigrants have arrived on the islands, an increase of 123% compared to the first eight months of 2023.
– With this data, the archipelago culminates a record summer since there have been statistics, since only between July and August 6,267 immigrants would have arrived, a number that is far from the number registered in the last five years in the same period: 4,226 in 2023; 1,896 in 2022; 2,303 in 2021; 1,225 in 2020 and 151 in the summer of 2019. And the worst thing is that, according to experts, the worst is yet to come, as this is precisely the most propitious time for the arrival of small boats. Not in vain, in the second half of August, 3,220 new cases have been registered, which means that almost half of the entries this summer have been registered in the last fortnight, according to figures published on Monday.
– The data have been made public on the same day that the president of the Canary Islands has decided to convene the council of government to discuss possible legal scenarios in the face of the ‘abandonment’ he says he is suffering from the Executive of Pedro Sánchez. ‘He is neglecting his functions’, Clavijo has denounced, who assures that “the Government of the Canary Islands is going to put itself in its place”.
– The leader of Coalición Canaria has denounced the massive arrival of illegal immigrants confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior on Monday and stressed that the Sánchez Executive had already been warned. ‘It was not difficult to see,’ he insisted, while recalling that they had already warned that in the second half of the year the arrivals were going to intensify, as has happened in recent years.
– ‘We are going to start a legal debate with the Spanish government on this issue. What cannot happen is that the emergency becomes the norm’, he denounced in an interview with Radio Canaria, in which he predicted that the archipelago is going to have to face “one emergency on top of another emergency” between now and the end of the year, with all its ore centres already “oversaturated” and several of them “above 200%” of their capacity.
– According to his figures, the Canary Islands have already spent more than 150 million euros on a migration policy that ‘does not fall within the competence of the autonomous community’, while the government continues to sit on its hands. ‘We still don’t see a penny, although money is not the solution. An agreement must be reached now so that minors can be placed in the rest of the national territory’ and so that the Canary Islands can recover a certain normality in the resources for the care of minors, which exceed 200% of their capacity.
– As for Spain as a whole, the Ministry of the Interior has recorded a total of 35,456 arrivals up to 31 August, which is 62.8% more than in the same period last year. Source, Spanish: https://www.libertaddigital.com/canarias/…

Debt Interest, The Hidden Economic Disaster That Plagues All Communities Of Spain- The Junta de Andalucía will pay double interest on its debt in the next three years: {Translation, summary}
– Andalusia will have to pay three times the interest on its debt over the next three years if the trend of a progressive rise in debt and bank rates continues. It will go
from 714 million euros in 2024 to 1,381 million in 2027, according to the latest report by the Foundation for Applied Economic Studies (Fedea), which warns that this is a phenomenon shared by all the regions. In fact, there will be autonomous regions that will experience a greater increase in the coming years.
– The Andalusian debt in 2024, according to the Fedea report, is 40,712 million euros, a figure that is less than that of Catalonia (89,514 million euros) and Valencia (61,225 million euros). The estimate is that in the coming years it will continue to grow until it reaches 42,065 million euros in 2024.
– This progressive growth, together with an estimated increase in interest rates from 1.8% in 2024 to 3.3% in 2027, means that Fedea estimates that annual interest expenditure will rise from the 714 million euros currently paid to 1,381 million euros at the end of the period analysed. The increase, therefore, is 263%, which is above the national average but below a few of the autonomous communities.
– In total, the financial expenses of the autonomous communities in interest on their public debt would be close to 12,000 million euros in 2027, more than three times the 3,608 million euros in 2022, if they were to issue new debt to finance the maturities of the debt currently in circulation and the expected deficit. MALAGA CITY
Malaga City Council activates a new phase of the action plan to control the presence of mosquitoes with the Nile Virus: {Translation, summary}
– Malaga City Council, through the Environmental Sustainability Department, has activated a new phase of the municipal plan for surveillance and integral control of vectors transmitting West Nile Fever after receiving a communication from the Directorate General of Public Health of the Andalusian Regional Government informing of the detection of the virus in mosquito samples taken in the area around the Guadalhorce River, in the Campanillas district, as part of the vector population controls using traps that are carried out as a preventive measure. This communication, which entails changing the risk level of Malaga from NR-1 to NR-4, only refers to the presence of the virus in mosquitoes and in no case mentions that transmission to humans has been recorded in our city. Málaga tourism- ‘People feel the city is collapsing’: {BBC, summary of much longer article}
– A recent study by El País newspaper found that several areas of Málaga {pic} had the highest proportion of Airbnb properties in Spain. A quarter of all apartments in the area around the Plaza de la Merced are dedicated to tourist rental.
– Owners of apartments are able to charge more for short-term rentals than they would charge longer-term tenants and this has the effect of pushing up prices across the board. Locals say it is difficult to find an apartment for less than €1,200-1,300 per month in the centre of Málaga. With the average salary in the surrounding Andalusia region at just €1,600 per month, they are being priced out of their city. “If the people of Málaga don’t have somewhere to live, who will provide services for the tourists?” asked Isabel Rodríguez, housing minister for Spain’s governing Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE).
– In Málaga, Kike España wants to see caps on rental prices and efforts to provide more housing for locals as immediate measures to counter the tourism crisis. While he insists that he and his fellow activists are not opposed to tourism, just the way it is being managed in Spain, he says he also hopes the protests will continue. “We are against city models that only focus on tourism,” he says. “We cannot lose all the energy and complexity and heterogeneity of our cities.” Full article: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/clyn5l20z72o
VÉLEZ-MÁLAGA
Delegation of the Historic Center launches the “Sunsets in Vélez: music and sunsets” series during the first three Fridays of the month of September: {Translation, summary}
– ‘Sunsets in Vélez: music and sunsets’. This programme combines music from various places in Vélez-Málaga. These sunsets will not be concerts as such. There will be no music equipment or sound with loudspeakers. It will be street music, so to speak. The intention is to put music to a very beautiful and almost magical moment that is experienced every day with the sunsets in September. Our idea is to promote this activity, but we want and hope that it will be something that in time will emerge in an improvised way by the artists of the city.

MADRID
Exposed- twenty stores in the center of Madrid where they practice Santeria ritual animal sacrifices: {Translation, summary}
– Rituals for love, to cure illnesses, for good luck, to get a job or to achieve goals for your close relatives. All these procedures have one thing in common: the sacrifice of animals or the purchase of concoctions made up of elements that are harmful to health. The Association of Santeria Victims has detected that these practices are currently being carried out in more than twenty shops located in the centre of Madrid. The list of establishments where the Santeria animal sacrifice rituals are being performed details the addresses of these establishments, which are located in places such as Puente de Vallecas, Tetuán, Centro or Torrejón de Ardoz.
– The shops also sell ‘products and potions without specifications of origin, ingredients or import agent’ and ‘exotic herbs’.
– We are detecting an increase in the number of people harmed by the effects of the practice of Santeria, we are receiving reports from all over Spain; specifically in Madrid we have detected and reported some of them to the police’, Victoria Vélez de Guevara, member of the Association of Santeria Victims, told Vozpópuli.

EZ VISA- All you need is private health insurance & €820/month income! Portugal’s D7 Visa Gains Popularity Following Abolishment of Real Estate Investment Option From Golden Visa Program:
– The abolishment of real estate investment option from Portugal’s Golden Visa scheme has led a significant number of internationals to turn their eyes to the D7 visa, known as the Retirement Visa. Established by the Government of Portugal in 2007, this kind of visa allows nationals from non-EU/EEA and Switzerland to acquire residency in Portugal, provided they have sufficient passive income.
– Among the requirements for benefiting from the D7 visa is to have a reasonable passive income. In order to qualify for the Passive Income Visa, applicants should be aged 18 or older, have a clean criminal record and have private health insurance.
– The passive income can come from movable property, real estate, rental income, financial investments or intellectual property. The minimum requirement income for the D7 visa is that applicants make at least €820.00 per month.
– The Passive income visa is valid for two years and can be extended for an additional three years. After a five-year period of obtaining a residency permit, its holders can be required to be Portuguese nationals. The processing time for the D7 visa is up to 60 days, provided applicants submit all the required documents.
– Following the changes that took effect on October 9, 2023, the real estate investment option to acquire residency and the option of transferring a total of €1.5 million into a Portuguese bank account in exchange for residency is no longer available. However, wealthy foreign nationals can still acquire residency in Portugal through the following options:
* Invest at least €500,000 in existing Portuguese business or company
* Donate at least €250,000 in art or reconstruction of national heritage
* Donate at least €500,000 to scientific institutes of research

FINANCIAL
What pension can housewives, or residents with annual incomes of less than €6,784, qualify for?: {Translation, summary}
– Even if they do not meet the minimum requirements to access a contributory pension, they are not devoid of options.
– As explained by the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda, the non-contributory retirement pension guarantees all citizens over 65 years of age and in a state of need, a financial benefit, free medical-pharmaceutical assistance and complementary social services, ‘even if they have not contributed or have contributed insufficiently to be entitled to a contributory pension’.
– Spanish citizens and nationals of other countries with legal residence in Spain who meet the following requirements may be beneficiaries of the non-contributory retirement pension:
* Lack sufficient income that, in annual computation for 2023, is less than 6,784.54 euros.
* Be at least 65 years of age.
* Residing in Spanish territory and having done so for a period of ten years between the date of reaching the age of sixteen and the date of accrual of the pension, two of which must be consecutive and immediately prior to the date of the application.
– In the event that the personal income is less than 6,784.54 euros per year and the person lives with family members, the requirement will only be met when the sum of the annual income of all the members of the economic unit of cohabitation is less than the following amounts:
* 2 cohabitants: 11,533.72 euros.
* 3 cohabitants: 16,282.90 euros.
* 4 or more cohabiting partners: 21,032.08 euros.
– The individual amount of the pension is established according to the number of non-contributory pension recipients in the same economic unit, the personal income and/or the income of the people in the economic unit. In this regard, Social Security points out that the annual amount of non-contributory pensions is 7,250.60 euros. This amount is paid in 12 payments (one for each month) and two extra payments (in June and November). This is equivalent to a monthly pension of 517.90 euros.
