Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.

SPAIN

Big Win For The Left- PSOE welcomes Perelló’s appointment as the first ‘woman and progressive’ president of the CGPJ and Supreme Court: {Translation, summary}
– The PSOE has celebrated that the magistrate Isabel Perelló {pic}, 66 years old, has become the first ‘woman and progressive’ president of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and the Supreme Court (TS), after the members of the governing body of judges have chosen her in a plenary session held on Tuesday ‘in extremis’ after several failed attempts due to lack of understanding between the conservative and progressive blocs.
– The Socialists are pleased that, ‘after weeks of blocking by the conservative members’ of the CGPG, an agreement has been reached to appoint the person who will preside over the institution and the Supreme Court, who will be Isabel Perelló, a woman, progressive and a member of the association Judges and Judges for Democracy (JJpD).
– PSOE sources have assured that Perelló’s appointment ‘fulfils the conditions that the progressive members have defended from the beginning’: that the Presidency of the TS and the CGPJ should be occupied by a woman, a Supreme Court judge, with ‘an unimpeachable curriculum vitae’ and that she should represent ‘a renewal after 28 consecutive years of conservative presidents’ in the judges’ governing body.
– ‘For the first time in history, the CGPJ and the Supreme Court will have a female and progressive president‘, said the same sources, and then applauded the fact that with a “fully renewed” judges’ governing body, there are now ‘five years of a mandate with a progressive majority’ ahead of them.
– The opening of the Judicial Year, which will take place next Thursday, will symbolise for the Socialists ‘the definitive end of the institutional and constitutional crisis’ that involved ‘the blocking of the renewal of the CGPJ by the PP’ and will strengthen the image of Spanish democracy, ‘with the three powers functioning normally’.
– It has taken five meetings for the 20 members – ten progressive and ten conservative – who took office last July to agree on the appointment of the new head of the judiciary. From the initial seven candidates, on Tuesday the candidates of Ferrer and Perelló were finally distilled and the latter was chosen.
– Perelló is currently a member of the Third Section of the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the TS, where she is in charge of appeals emanating from regulatory bodies such as the CNMV, CNMC or the Bank of Spain, among others. She also deals with matters relating to the Transparency Council, transport, telecommunications and subsidies. Source, Spanish: https://www.europapress.es/nacional/noticia…

AXARQUÍA

The Axarquía “drinks” almost five hectometers of the La Viñuela reservoir in July and August: {Translation, summary}
– At the beginning of September, the La Viñuela reservoir had 24.99 cubic hectometres of water, which represents 15.20% of its total capacity. A year ago it only had 13.56 cubic hectometres, so the situation is now somewhat more bearable than then, although the exceptional drought in the region continues. During the months of July and August, the consumption of the municipalities of La Axarquía that are supplied by the reservoir amounted to 4.8 cubic hectometres, of which 2.43 hectometres corresponded to July and 2.37 cubic hectometres, a very similar amount, to August. In the last week alone, just over half a hectometre has been consumed in La Viñuela.
– Thus, the La Viñuela reservoir has 11.4 cubic hectometres more than a year ago, thanks to the rains recorded during Easter Week. This means that the Axarquía, maintaining the current restrictions on supply and the saving measures in place, has water for human consumption for about a year- ten months in the worst case scenario that it does not rain. For the Junta de Andalucía, in the words of the territorial delegate for Agriculture and Water, Fernando Fernández Tapia-Ruano, ‘the forecasts are being met and a good regulation has been made’ of the resources available in the Axarquía. MIJAS

Mijas Pueblo Fair starts today Wednesday 4/9: {Translation}
– The lighting of the lights at the fairgrounds, scheduled for 22.00 hours this Wednesday, will mark the start of a new edition of the Mijas Pueblo fair, in honour of the Virgen de la Peña, patron saint and perpetual mayoress of the municipality.
– A few hours before that moment, the children will be the protagonists thanks to a parade of giants and big-heads, which will start from the town hall at 18:30 hours. Children wishing to take part must register at the Town Hall on the same day from half past five in the afternoon.
– It should be remembered that during this first day the rides will be at reduced prices and that, every day of the fair between 19:00 and 21:00 hours, there will be no music and the noise in the area of the rides will be reduced with the aim of making it an inclusive celebration so that people with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) can enjoy it.
– As far as the lighting is concerned, this year there will be almost 400,000 LED lights, i.e. energy-saving lights.
– One day later, on Thursday 5 September at 14:00 hours, the Day Fair will kick off at La Muralla, which will run daily until 8 p.m. and will include musical entertainment.
– The big day will be the 8th of September, with the procession of the image at 21:30. Before that, between 4 and 7 September, a novena in her honour will be held at 21:00 hours in the parish church of La Inmaculada, where the Virgen de la Peña is located after her transfer on 29 August.
– Public transport. In order to facilitate the arrival at the Fair, a shuttle bus service has been set up, as well as reinforcing the intercity bus that links Mijas with the neighbouring municipality of Fuengirola. Thus, the M-122 intercity line will run until 02:00 hours and there will be one more stop than usual, at the Ford roundabout.
– This year there will be shuttle buses in the three centres, which will leave from the main parking areas of La Cala, Las Lagunas and from the Quarry of Mijas Pueblo from 16:00 to 04:00 hours, while on Saturday it will be extended for another hour until 05:00 hours. In Osunillas there is a parking area, so the shuttle bus will also stop there. Russian missiles kill 50 in strike on Ukrainian military institute:
– At least 50 people were killed and 271 wounded when Russia hit a military institute in Ukraine’s central town of Poltava with two ballistic missiles on Tuesday, the war’s deadliest single attack this year. The use of ballistic missiles – which hit targets hundreds of kilometres away within a few minutes of their launch – meant the victims had little time to find cover after the air raid siren sounded, the foreign ministry said.
– Russia has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine two-and-a-half years into the full-scale war. Last week Ukraine was pummelled with the heaviest bombardment to date, and on Monday ballistic and cruise missiles targeted Kyiv causing loud explosions.
– Ukraine also targeted Russia with more than 158 drones at the weekend, damaging an oil refinery near Moscow and a power station.
– Fighting has intensified over the past month, with Russian forces advancing in eastern Ukraine, while Kyiv’s troops have mounted their first large-scale cross-border assault into Russia. Moscow has vowed to retaliate for the incursion into the Kursk region. ‘Drakaris’- Ukraine’s new flamethrower drone torches Russian trenches in fiery attack:
– Footage has been doing the rounds on social media that appears to show a new flamethrower drone being employed by Ukrainian Forces against Russian targets. Initially released on Telegram, the footage shows some unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) blasting jets of fire along a treeline. The footage lasts around a minute, with the last 30 seconds showing the devastation unleashed by the attack. It is unclear from the footage if Russian soldiers occupy the treeline, but a small explosion goes off in the treeline at the 25-second mark.
– Due to the low quality of the footage, it is difficult to distinguish the drone in question, but the entire attack lasts for around 22 seconds. After this, the drone drops its incendiary weapon (presumably now spent) and flies off.
– Careful observation of the flamethrower shows that it consists of a spray of sparks rather than a more traditional jet of ignited liquid. This would indicate that the “flamethrower” probably uses some form of thermite or similar material. Thermite is a powder mixture of iron oxide and aluminum powders. These react to reach temperatures around 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit (2,400 degrees Celsius), which can melt through steel plates in seconds. It is also used for cutting and welding in industry.
– The drone likely posed little real threat to any Russian soldiers. Still, the highly flammable nature of thermite would readily ignite things like dry vegetation, ammunition, or other materials not protected inside dugouts. TRAVEL

Ouigo sets September 26th as the on-sale date to buy tickets for the new high-speed service between Malaga and Madrid: {Translation, summary}
– From this autumn, on a date that has not yet been revealed, Ouigo will put its fleet of double-decker Alstom Euroduplex trains into service to Malaga, with a number of seats (509) that is one of the largest on the market, and which in double composition reaches 1,018 in a single train. This high capacity is the key to its aggressive pricing policy, which starts at 9 euros each way, and which on the lines where it already operates (Barcelona, Valencia and Alicante, among others) reaches an average 50% discount compared to Renfe fares. In addition, children up to 14 years of age travel at a fixed price of seven euros (accompanied by an adult), and babies travel free of charge. Despite being a low-cost service, the trains have a staffed cafeteria.
-The arrival of Ouigo’s fleet in the Malaga’s high-speed network will provide María Zambrano station with the largest high-speed train access in its history.
– More than 20 frequencies will be available per day in each direction to and from Madrid, adding the two Renfe brands (AVE and Avlo); the Iryo and the new Ouigo. Specifically, the largest catalogue of seats will continue to be offered by Renfe: up to 14 daily frequencies in each direction (depending on the day). Followed by Iryo, which offers up to five departures. And from this autumn, between two and three more Ouigo services will be added, which could bring the total to 22.
