Your questions answered by Ruth from Compare Funerals Spain
– Why should I have a funeral plan? Having been funeral planning for over 10 year I’ve experienced some very sad and upset families when nothing is in place. A Spanish funeral plans will ensure that all costs are covered for your funeral service. Getting a prepaid plan will help you feel assured that your family will not be under any financial strain when it comes to paying for your funeral. A plan also means you can have peace of mind that everything has been organised in advance, so your loved ones do not have to make any difficult decisions.
– Why choose Compare Funerals? There seems to be a gap in Spain between independent funeral directors, offering plans at a good price but lacking the security of an established Trust or ability to cover a client overseas and Providers who seem to charge more than necessary. We want to be right in the middle and offer the best of both worlds. Our best-priced plan is only 2,250€ and does the essentials.
– Can I do a payment plan? All our plans are payable in full or over up to 5 years interest FREE. The interest free periods are based on initial deposit. The higher the deposit the less your monthly repayments will be.
– Can I transfer the plan? The answer is YES. You could name 2 people on one plan however if you had a friend/family member pass away we can transfer the plan into a 3rd party’s name.
– What happens if I move? All our plans offer the equivalent service in Spain (including the islands), Portugal, Republic of Ireland and the UK. If you moved to the UK, we would transfer the plan to one of our many partners at no extra cost to you.
– Is paperwork included? Yes, your family will receive a death certificate in Spanish and an international certification in English. We also provide a cremation certificate that allows the ashes on board a plane.
We are DigameXtra sponsors, so our contact info can be found everyday in the Sponsor’s Section.

The socialists will decide when you have enough money- Sánchez announces a tax increase for “those who have enough money in the bank to live 100 lives”: {Translation}
– The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced on Wednesday that they are going to raise taxes ‘on those who already have enough money in the bank to live 100 lifetimes’.
– The head of the Executive, who inaugurated the new political year in an event at the Cervantes Institute, indicated that the Government is going to implement ‘new actions aimed at limiting disproportionate privileges that certain elites have and from which certain elites benefit’ in the country.
– ‘We are going to tax those who already have enough money in the bank to live a hundred lifetimes. We will do so, I insist, not to harm millionaires but to protect the middle and working classes from a system that continues to be extraordinarily unfair’, Sánchez reiterated, in the presence of practically his entire cabinet and the trade union leaders of CCOO and UGT, Unai Sordo and Pepe Álvarez, respectively.
– For Sánchez, ‘regardless of what some people think or want, Spain will be a better country if it has more electric cars, certainly made in Spain, more public buses and, therefore, more public transport and fewer Lamborghinis’.
– The head of the Executive concluded by assuring that more progressive taxation will be one of the three main axes that the Government will develop in economic matters in this new political year, with taxes ‘that will grow more for those who have more’. The PP registers its appeal against the amnesty law in the Constitutional Court- “It was necessary to do so and a moral obligation”: {Translation}
– With just under a week to go before the deadline, Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s PP has registered its appeal against the amnesty law with the Constitutional Court. As announced by the secretary general of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, it was ‘necessary’ and a ‘moral obligation’ of the main opposition group, ‘the only state party left in the parliamentary arc of our country’.
– The PP leader thus fulfils his promise to fight against the erasure of the procés in the courts. Likewise, the thirteen communities governed by the PP will present their own appeal before 11 September, when the deadline expires.
– The PP will also try to ensure that three of the twelve magistrates of the Constitutional Court – its president, Cándido Conde-Pumpido, and the two members who came from the Sánchez government, the former minister Juan Carlos Campo and the former director general of Moncloa Laura Díez – do not take part in the deliberations by recusing themselves, thus changing the progressive majority that will decide on the law. MALAGA CITY
The lack of professionals blocks appointments for primary care in Malaga: {Translation, summary}
– Getting an appointment at a health center in Malaga capital is an impossible mission these days. It does not matter which area of the Málaga-Guadalhorce district you live in, because the message that there are no appointments available at this time extends to any outpatient clinic, although obviously some are worse than others. The end of the holidays and, above all, the lack of professionals in health centers are the main causes of a collapse in primary care whose most representative image is the queues to be attended to non-delayable consultations.
– Asked about this situation, the Health Delegation in Malaga admits that the problem exists these days, but that it is a “specific” issue. Maribel González, head of the Citizen Services Service of the Málaga-Guadalhorce District, recognizes most of the issues criticized by the Medical Union, but attributes most of these problems to the lack of professionals available to hire.
– We have a one hundred percent replacement rate, but it is difficult for us to cover it because there are no professionals,” she maintains. However, this lack of doctors also has to do with the quality of the contracts offered.
– This newspaper published a few months ago the data on the hiring of Primary Care doctors between January and June of this year in the Málaga Guadalhorce district. At this time, the Andalusian Health Service had hired 105 doctors, although all of them had contracts of days or a few months. Many of them have been experiencing this same situation for several years. From the conditions underlying these short-term contracts, the conclusion is drawn, according to the SMM, of “absolute instability” and “precariousness.” Source, Spanish: https://www.diariosur.es/malaga-capital/falta-profesionales-bloquea-citas-atencion-primaria-20240904223418-nt.html

Macron names EU’s Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier as France’s new prime minister:
– President Emmanuel Macron named Michel Barnier {pic} as France’s new prime
minister on Thursday, hoping the Brexit negotiator and veteran conservative can work with the country’s bitterly divided legislature to end political turmoil that has roiled Macron’s presidency.
– Barnier, 73, is the oldest of the 26 prime ministers that have served modern France’s Fifth Republic. He replaces the youngest, Gabriel Attal, who was 34 when he was appointed just eight months ago. Hunter Biden enters shock guilty plea in $1.4M tax evasion case, first son facing up to 17 years in prison:
– Hunter Biden {pic} shocked the legal and political words Thursday as he unexpectedly decided to plead guilty plea in his federal tax evasion case, just as his trial was slated to kick off with jury selection. Los Angeles federal Judge Mark Scarsi accepted the plea from the first son on all nine counts he faced in a case accusing him of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes for the years 2016 through 2019.
– With the guilty plea – which was not part of a plea bargain and which came as a shock to prosecutors – Biden could face up to 17 years behind bars, he same penalty he would have faced if convicted at trial. “Hunter decided to enter his plea to protect those he loves from unnecessary hurt and cruel humiliation,” Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell said, outside court after the hearing.
“This plea prevents that kind of show trial that would not have provided all the facts or served any real point in justice. He will now move on to the sentencing phase, while keeping open the options to raise the many clear issues with this case on appeal.”
– Lowell blindsided federal prosecutors when he told Scarsi earlier Thursday that his client wanted to enter an “Alford plea” – which would have allowed him to plead guilty but maintain his innocence.
– Prosecutors, however, balked at the move, considering the massive evidence against Biden. So the first son went forward with the standard guilty plea, copping to the entire case. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)
What Is ‘Model Collapse’? An Expert Explains the Rumors About an Impending AI Doom:
– Short version: AI must be trained on Internet content. As AI fills up more space on the Internet, AI starts training on AI created material, and researchers found that this creates a “model collapse” or “Dumber Loop”- the more AI trains on AI material, the dumber it gets! -Ed.
– Artificial intelligence prophets and newsmongers are forecasting the end of the generative AI hype, with talk of an impending catastrophic “model collapse.” But how realistic are these predictions? And what is model collapse anyway?
– Discussed in 2023, but popularized more recently, “model collapse” refers to a hypothetical scenario where future AI systems get progressively dumber due to the increase of AI-generated data on the internet.
– In 2023, researchers started wondering if they could get away with only relying on AI-created data for training, instead of human-generated data. There are huge incentives to make this work. In addition to proliferating on the internet, AI-made content is much cheaper than human data to source. It also isn’t ethically and legally questionable to collect en masse.
– However, researchers found that without high-quality human data, AI systems trained on AI-made data get dumber and dumber as each model learns from the previous one. It’s like a digital version of the problem of inbreeding.
– Can’t big tech just filter out AI-generated content? Not really. Tech companies already spend a lot of time and money cleaning and filtering the data they scrape, with one industry insider recently sharing they sometimes discard as much as 90 percent of the data they initially collect to train models.
– These efforts might get more demanding as the need to specifically remove AI-generated content increases. But more importantly, in the long term it will actually get harder and harder to distinguish AI content. This will make the filtering and removal of synthetic data a game of diminishing (financial) returns.
– Ultimately, the research so far shows we just can’t completely do away with human data. After all, it’s where the “I” in AI is coming from. Full article: https://singularityhub.com/2024/08/27/what-is-model-collapse-an-expert-explains-the-rumors-about-an-impending-ai-doom/

Queen Guitarist Brian May Reveals He Suffered a ‘Scary’ Minor Stroke:
– Brian May, the guitarist of Queen, has revealed he recently dealt with a “health hiccup.” In a video posted to his website today, the musician detailed how he suffered a minor stroke that caused him to lose control over his arm.
– “I’m here to bring you first of all some good news, I think,” May said in the video. “The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days and I
say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden — out of the blue – I didn’t have any control over this arm. So it was a little scary, I have to say. I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital, where I went. Blue lights flashing, the lot.”
– He added that he is now okay and has been told to do “basically nothing.” “I’m grounded. I’m not allowed to go out,” May said, filming the video outdoors with a plane flying overhead. “I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high, not allowed to have planes flying over, which will stress me. But I’m good.” Full article: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/queen-guitarist-brian-may-minor-stroke-1235094733/ & Video Link
